The What the Hell is Up podcast with Claire as the host is a refreshing and thought-provoking show that delves deep into meaningful conversations with her guests. Unlike other podcasts that stick to surface-level small talk, Claire has the unique ability to invoke comfort and curiosity within her listeners through intentional and authentic conversations. From the moment you start listening, she creates a welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel like you're having a conversation with a close friend.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is Claire's ability to curate a home within these podcast walls. She invites her guests to share their stories and experiences, creating a space for vulnerability and genuine connection. Her thoughtful investigation of local artists brings to light the beautiful and thriving Seattle art scene, inspiring listeners to explore their own creativity. The questions she asks are always on point, sparking insightful discussions that leave you feeling enlightened and inspired.
Furthermore, Claire's episodes are consistently engaging and captivating. Each episode brings a new guest with unique perspectives, ensuring that there is never a dull moment in this podcast. Whether it's exploring topics like confidence issues or diving into the meaning behind art, The What the Hell is Up podcast keeps listeners captivated from start to finish.
While it's difficult to find any major flaws in this podcast, one possible downside could be its narrow focus on Seattle's art scene. While this may be enriching for those interested in local art culture, it might not appeal as much to listeners outside of Seattle who are looking for more varied content. However, even for those outside of Seattle, there is still much to gain from the insightful conversations and thought-provoking discussions offered by this podcast.
In conclusion, The What the Hell is Up podcast offers an exceptional listening experience that combines comfort, curiosity, and meaningful conversations. Claire's ability as a host shines through as she guides listeners through thought-provoking discussions with interesting guests. This podcast will not only invoke your own curiosity for meaning in life but also inspire you to explore authentic creativity. For anyone seeking a consistent listen that goes beyond surface-level conversation, I highly recommend The What the Hell is Up podcast.
Welcome back to the show, stars. In today's episode, you'll hear the loveliest of interviews I had with Lara de la Rosa, owner of Lazy Cow bakery, a vegan cafe and mutual aid space in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. We discussed the values of Lazy Cow which are rooted in mutual aid, non-hierarchical business, and community. What the hell is up stars? I went back and forth on what to name this episode. I could've called it rooted in the process of songwriting, rooted in being a band, or rooted in each other, but the central theme here really did feel like it was about being a baby. I sat down with LA-based indie, folk rock band to discuss the formation of their band and their first three singles. In today's episode you'll hear Kieffer, Elon and Julian, share thoughts on musical inspiration from John Mayer to James Jamerson, how it feels to be a baby in LA, and what it's like to stay rooted through mental illness. Hello, stars! Welcome back to another episode of the pod. In today's episode, I reveal my Seattle roots while asking what the hell is up with Tacocat? Izzy invited me into a collaboration to each introduce the other to a band from our home towns. Hello dears! I've been on a hiatus! A much-needed spontaneous recuperation session. I've been hiding out with friends and family before my big move down to Los Angeles. I've been rooting myself in my yoga practices, yard dances, reading, writing, and the frequent tearful friend call as I've been processing a dizzying amount of change. But enough on that. Today's episode is the SEASON TWO FINALE sponsored by the What the Hell is Up Live Show from July 2nd at Cafe Racer. That night, I discussed the story of a star whilst surrounded by stars. Turns out we are all always surrounded by stars in one way or another. Sometimes it might just be a bit harder to see them due to light pollution, smoke, or unrelenting distraction. May we always see ourselves as stars and recognize the starry-qualities in those around us. Thanks for tuning in. You're a star and I love you. Hellllo.... happy summer stars!! What the hell is up? Back in June, I sat down with Seattle-based duo Lobes and Haywire to hear the story of their friendship, collaboration and the stories behind their recent projects. Rapper Alex Olobia, who goes by the name of Lobes, and Hayden Wires, an electronic artist, came together through an event called Party for People, which I helped put on in 2018. From this meeting point of friendship and passion, Lobes mustered the courage and confidence to grow from a Soundcloud Rapper into a performing rapper and the two collaborated to create a full-length album called Samurai Black. Almost 4 years later and Lobes and Haywire continue to perform on local Rap and Hip Hop stages, alongside other friends and collaborators. Both speak to the process of "sending it down the slopes" for the sake of artistry and personal growth and that feeling of being "Brand New" in the process. It was SO friggin' fun to sit down and chat with Lobes and Haywire, who I've personally known for several years now. Thanks for being here, this is what the hell is up. What the hell is up, stars? Have you ever been in the car with that friend who completely hogs the aux but doesn't read the room? Compare that to being in the club with your besties, a round of tequila shots and a DJ who keeps the groove set right the entire night. What the hell is up stars? Well, most poignantly, this ongoing panini and all that it requires of us. That is, patience, resilience and flexibility amidst changing plans. Due to COVID-inspired plan changes, I present to you a THROW BACK episode featuring the inspired, talented, and compassionate Ings, Lullaby-rock extraordinaire. This episode originally aired in August of 2019 and offered clarity on all kinds of questions I had about authentic creativity. How do we create mindfully, joyfully and kindly? This episode had a bit of a slower and more wandering pace than my newer episodes. It's a marker of growth and change, but still one I cherish because of the hyggeligt nature of Ings' and I's artful conversation over a crunchy Kransekake. Ever seen one of those "heroes work here" signs??? Seriously, though, what the hell is up with that? I'm a Nurse working on the front lines during the Panini, blah blah blah, and I've got some big T on all things SUPER. Started off with a quarantine-fueled venture into the Spiderverse and then I found myself wondering all sorts of things about how we find our Super power and what we do with it. Turns out maybe instead of trying to save anyone else, we should just be our own super hero (exercising whatever powers...hopefully for good rather than evil... that we may possess). Today's episode also features the lovely, transcendent "I'll Get Over It" by Madeline Kenney, Oakland-based singer/songwriter. This song feels like a space-ship trip to a planet of getting over something and gaining new understanding in the process. Listen in stars (heroes). Helllllo stars. Welcome back to the pod. I'm back after a holiday respite! Today I'm tuning in from a COVID quarantine with my housemates Cesar Pinzon and Ian Bourn. We've been isolated, stars, so you'll note that we were feeling goofy. In this Yuletide episode, you'll hear us play a Christmas "who am I" game, reflect on Christmas memories--both light and dark--and finish the episode with a reading of the classic Christmas tale "The Gift of the Magi". Throughout the episode, you'll hear the song Home Alone by Heatmaps, which does wonders to parallel the conflicted emotions we all share about the holidays. In this life, we are constantly saying goodbye to things and saying hello to new things. Seasons of change can be difficult, but they certainly offer opportunities for personal and creative growth. In today's episode, I sat down with Seattle-based instrumentalist, B.J. Turns out we all need to hear a sad song every now and again. You'll hear about this and more from Seattle-based singer/songwriter/multi-creative Claire Conway whose Pisces energy is apparent in her emotive, watery approach to songwriting. We sat down to discuss her new 5-song EP, Be Good, which features songs on themes of loss, heartbreak and healing. TRIGGER WARNING: Issues of violence against Indigenous people, addiction, and mental illness. In today's episode, I caught up with my friend Misty Rose, who is a blossoming Nurse and the creator of an event at Seattle University called "Honoring Indigenous Voices". What the hell is up? THAT is the question. AND the answer. And in today's episode you'll hear both from the lovely and inspiring Elyse Lankford, a friend and fellow alum of Seattle Pacific. Hello lovelies! What the hell is up? Today I share with you...bonus episode ONE. This is a shorter episode which will emerge every other week in between interview episodes. When I first started making this podcast, my process was cathartic and self-reflective. A lot has changed in my life recently and the need to connect with myself has been strong--WHAT better way to do that then sharing it audibly with you all (LOL)!! Okay, but seriously, I hope that these bonus episodes can provide more of my personal story driving the artistic conversations. May these episodes also inspire care of self and provide some brief meditative words from my own daily practices. What the hell is up? Today's episode features Cotto, a Seattle-based producer who works at Studio Sage. We sat down to discuss his beats, production work and what it's like to work at Sage. Against the backdrop of his album Sounds by Cotto, you'll hear his story and--along the way-- our random-ass, giggle-laden thoughts about music and art. Of all the artists I've met, I don't think I've ever met someone as obsessed with their craft as Cotto. Not only are his beats absolute fire, but his commitment to creating will take him to ridiculous places. I had so much fun creating this episode, in part because the vibe of Cotto's beats have been comforting and inspiring to me throughout my summer. What the hell is up? Today's episode features Joe August, a musician and music therapist, in a conversation we had back in May. I wanted to ask him "what the hell is up with being a rock star and a music therapist?!". In other words, I was curious about Joe's relationship with independent artistry and healing work. During the episode, we discussed his upcoming full length album "Modern Sound of Quiet" which came out on July 6th and features the singles Lotus Flower and Next Year. Joe and I discussed his musical influences, inspiration, and the meaning he finds in providing music therapy as a healing modality for the clients he works with. With classic 60s psych-rock influences and themes of finding stillness in the overall chaos of media which we often experience, his new album absolutely grooves. In this episode, you'll hear the songs Paradise (with Afterspace), M.S.Q., Lotus Flower (with Chase Rabideau) and Fool For You (with Alec Shaw & Zan Fiskum). I was inspired by Joe's attention to cultivating connection through music across time and I know you will be too, so listen in friends!
