Darkness Of Man is a new action noir starring Jean Claude Van Damme as a former Interpol agent haunted by the actions of his past.  Visually striking, Darkness Of Man sees Van Damme give a nuanced turn - and it's once again an indicator that the action icon can deliver good performances alongside bullets and flying kicks. James Cullen Bressack, the director, producer and co-writer of Darkness Of Man is no stranger to working for legendary action heroes, having previously worked with Bruce Willis, Steven Seagal and Mel Gibson. He joins this episode of the podcast, to talk about the making of the neo-noir, working with Jean Claude Van Damme and what it's like directing other iconic action stars. Darkness Of Man co-star, Kristanna Loken also joins this episode. Loken has had a storied career having played the evil T-X opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines and having starred in a variety of other films and TV shows including Bloodrayne, Burn Notice and Painkiller Jane. Amongst other things, Kristanna Loken discusses how acting is changing in the face of new technologies, making Darkness Of Man and working with Jean Claude Van Damme.

Award-winning actor Emmanuelle Vaugier stars in Hallmark Channel's movie sequel Big Sky River: The Bridal Path which premieres on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries in the US and W Network in Canada on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 9:00 pm. The movie is particularly special for Emmanuelle as she gets to combine her love of acting with her love for horses. Emmanuelle may be best known for her popular role as Charlie Sheen's ex-fiancée Mia in the award-winning CBS comedy Two and a Half Men. For three seasons she also played Detective Jessica Angell on CSI: NY, leaving fans devastated when her role came to an end.  For five seasons Emmanuelle was the vain and dangerously sociopathic character of the Morrigan on the innovative series Lost Girl. Emmanuelle was cast alongside Piper Perabo in the USA Network crime series Covert Affairs, where she played Liza Hearn, a journalist and blogger not afraid to push boundaries. She was also on the AT&T original series Rogue as Assistant District Attorney Regan Faulker alongside Cole Hauser (Yellowstone). Other television appearances include her portrayal of Jane in the two-hour pilot of the adaptation of the comic Painkiller Jane, and a starring role in The CW comedy My Guide to Becoming a Rockstar. She has also heavily recurred on TV shows such as The CW's dramas Smallville and One Tree Hill, as well as Mistresses on ABC and the FOX series Human Target.  Recently, Emmanuelle played Sarah, a smart and accomplished professional in the television series The Potwins starring opposite Kevin Sorbo, and appeared in the comedic television series Millennial Mafia as Francesca, a female mob boss who must manage a group of young adults who are thrust into adulthood when their mob-boss parents are sent to jail.   Emmanuelle's feature film endeavors are impressive with a number of credits to her name, including Saw ll, Saw IV, Secondhand Lions, with Michael Caine and Robert Duvall, 40 Days and 40 Nights, with Josh Hartnett, Susie's Hope (a role for which she won best actress at the Greensville International Film Festival), It's Christmas Carol! (which earned her a Leo Award) opposite Carrie Fisher, and Absolute Deception alongside Cuba Gooding Jr., to name a few. Emmanuelle is adding voice-over actor to her list of projects as well, with many fans remembering her portrayal of the character Nikki in Need for Speed Carbon EA's #1-grossing video game worldwide.   Emmanuelle's inner and outer beauty shines through as she is among the select group of women to be featured on ‘Maxim‘s Top 100' list twice. She was also named fifth on Femme Fatal magazine's 50 Sexiest Women on the Planet', and was named ‘Sexiest Woman Alive' for the sixth time by Smartasses Magazine. Not just another inker-turned-writer, Jimmy Palmiotti has had an outsized impact on the industry that welcomed him way back in 1991. Starting with hard-edged Marvel titles like Punisher, Ghost Rider, and The Nam, Jimmy went on to found Event Comics with friend and frequent collaborator, Joe Quesada. After co-creating characters like Ash and Painkiller Jane, he and Quesada helped turnaround Marvel with their Marvel Knights line. Jimmy eventually moved to the Distinguished Competition, where (along with his now wife Amanda Conner) he redefined a number of their heavy-hitting female titles, including Starfire, Power Girl, and a hugely popular run on Harley Quinn. And let's not forget his work on Jonah Hex and Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters. You’ve heard of fantasy football, right?Today, we option our favorite comic book stories and turn them into television shows and feature films.OK, let us explain. Back around 2008, Hollywood was optioning comic book IPs left and right. The success of shows like 'Smallville' and 'The Walking Dead' to movies like '300' and the 'X-Men' franchise had the suits champing at the bit for ripe comic properties. Out of that era, we got some good stuff (A History of Violence, Ghost World, RED) along with a few stinkers (The Spirit, Painkiller Jane, the Blade TV show). So for sh*ts and giggles, the three of us each pick a story, cast it with actors, hire creative departments, and produce it into a film or television show.So imagine a world with an 'Uncanny X-Men' movie starring Rutger Hauer as Magneto and Grace Jones as Storm? Or an 'Invaders' TV show featuring William Zabka as the original Human Torch and Ralph Fiennes as Baron Blood? Or an adaptation of 'Sandman Mystery Theatre' starring James McAvoy as Wesley Dodds and Emilia Clarke as Dian Belmont? We GO there. *And hey, be sure to check out our Facebook and Instagram pages for original concept art created exclusively for this episode by Dwight and Adrian!*  As always, thanks for listening to Sidebar Forever. This week on Legends of the Panel, Lady Archer and KJ meet and discuss Pride month and the impact of LGBTQ+ characters and creators on the comics world. From Batwoman to Catman. From Harley Quinn to Wonder Woman, and from Iceman to Painkiller Jane there are a number of characters in both the Marvel and DC universes who provide sexual diversity to today’s comic book roster. But it was not always this way. As KJ and the Lady Archer discuss, it was taboo to even bring the topic forward as late as 1981 under conservative editors and organizations like the Comics Code Authority. There may have been ambiguity in the past, but it was never explicitly stated… until the late 80’s and early 90’s.Characters like X-Men’s Northstar, and more recently Iceman, Silver Surfer, Deadpool, Apollo and even Hercules all have presented different aspects of the LGBTQ community in Comics, just to name a few.An even larger influence is that of creators who are part of the LGBTQ+ community and who represent an amazing talent of writers, artists and other creators. Phil Jimenez (Wonder Woman), Noel Stevenson (LumberJanes), Kieron Gillen (Wicked + Divine) just to name a few.We can’t thank them enough for bringing new perspectives to comic books, and wish them all continued success.Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting Legends of the Panel here on the Geek Culturecast network. We know, it's a Monday. In the history of the Making Comics Gutter Talk podcast, it has never been released on any day of the week besides Friday. However, in this instance, the timing called for it. While there may be some purists or other creatures of habit who find this to be troublesome, we first offer this advice: take a breath. Everything will be okay. We promise. Then listen to this episode. Trust us, you'll feel better. In this Gutter Talk episode, Adam sits down with Jimmy Palmiotti, whose attributes run a marathon but to list a few, he created Painkiller Jane. He's also one of the co-creators of Marvel Knights, which comes up as a discussion topic in the conversation between Adam and Jimmy. Then there's Harley Quinn, a character in which he and his wife Amanda Conner helped increase popularity levels to great heights. Oh, and Painkiller Jane... and Deadpool... and the Punisher... Also, Jimmy is the co-founder of PaperFilms, along with (again) Amanda Conner, and has some pretty amazing talent on board, like Justin Gray, Craig Weeden, Frank Tieri, and more. Pretty impressive. Make sure to also subscribe in iTunes or wherever you find your favorite podcasts. Also, please, for the love of all that is podcast holy, give us a rating and review. We won't hold it against you if you don't but you'd be our new best friend if you did. And who doesn't want more best friends?
