Sofia established herself as one of the first true podcast success stories while co-hosting the Call Her Daddy podcast during her time at Barstool Sports dating back to 2018. After leaving Barstool Sports in 2020, she then started her own podcast Sofia with an F, which has also proven to be a massive success. She shares why she believes women are often unfairly judged and how that's impacted her personal and professional choices. Sofia also reflects on majoring in economics, working at Morgan Stanley while secretly recording Call Her Daddy, and the lessons she learned about contracts and business. She details how she rebuilt her career after a public fallout, what helped her rise again in the podcasting world, where she sees the industry going, her dream guests, and how she handled being villainized—and what she's planning next. Dr. Wilner would love your feedback! Click here to send a text! Thanks! Many thanks to Franklyn Rocha, MD, a fellow neurologist and with an unusual locum tenens practice. He is a clinical neurophysiologist and neurohospitalist consultant and Chief Executive Officer/Owner of IRD Neuroanalysis, Inc. Dr. Rocha does in-person neurology consults at Harbor-UCLA Hospital near his home but primarily works as a telemedicine physician from the first floor of his townhouse! Dr. Rocha is also a new father of a healthy, bouncing, baby boy. Prior to his son's birth, Frank had been thinking a lot about fatherhood. He published an essay on KevinMD.com about how difficult it can be for physician fathers to be physically present with a newborn. He cites academic demands, peer pressure from other physicians, lack of paid paternal leave, and the tradition of putting patients first as formidable obstacles that discourage new physician fathers from taking parental leave. It's clear that Frank intends to be a successful physician and entrepreneur, but he also didn't want to miss out on the unique experience of fatherhood. During our 30-minute podcast, Frank explained how owning his own business and working telemedicine allowed him to spend nearly four months of parental leave with his wife and newborn son. For physicians with the added challenge of a special needs child, parenting demands are even greater. For these physicians, David Hirsch's “Special Father's Network” offers valuable resources. In this episode, the Night Owl team returns to the Sunset Strip Comedy Club, nestled in the heart of Austin's iconic 6th Street, to continue their investigation into the unsettling paranormal activity at this historic building. Last time, the team uncovered chilling reports from staff and locals—disembodied voices calling their names, shadowy figures rushing them, mysterious foul odors that appear and disappear for no reason throughout the back of the building, and most commonly reported, an ominous presence felt in the back stairwell that may be tied to a mysterious death in the buildings past. But the mystery deepens today, as Stephen is joined by team members Alexis, Franklyn, and psychic medium Jeffery, who will dive in and explore the dark corners of this club with him. They'll attempt to find rational explanations for some of the strange reports, but as they dig in, Jeffery begins to make eerie connections to the reports and uncover new possible spirits lurking in the venue's shadows. Utilizing cutting-edge techniques like the Estes Method and Ganzfeld Experiments, the team will venture into uncharted territory. And just when they think they've hit a dead end, a surprising witness from Missouri steps forward with a shocking validation that could change everything. Is the Sunset Strip Comedy Club truly haunted? Join the team as they dive deeper into the mystery, unraveling the past and confronting whatever spirits might still haunt this historic building. When you need the chocolate you find creative ways to make the deal work. See the best of both worlds. Dave Young: Welcome to the Empire Builders podcast, teaching business owners the not-so-secret techniques that took famous businesses from Mom and Pop to major brands. Stephen Semple is a marketing consultant, story collector and storyteller. I'm Stephen's sidekick and business partner Dave Young. Before we get into today's episode, a word from our sponsor, which is, well, it's us, but we're highlighting ads we've written and produced for our clients. So here's one of those. [ASAP Commercial Doors Ad] Stephen Semple: Welcome to part two of the Mars episode. If you haven't listened to the first part, I suggest you go back and give it a listen because those are really the early days of Mars. But the Mars story was so interesting we had to break it into two parts, and there's some really fun and surprising things that are going to happen in Phase 2 of this story. The Mars Bar was this big success. He's now had a couple failures. He needs a success. It's 1934. His father, Franklyn, passes away. Dave Young: Okay. Stephen Semple: At the age of 50, and the future of the company in the U.S. is now in doubt, and there's a small number of shares go to Forrest. But most of the shares go to his stepmother who does not like Forrest. Dave Young: Ouch. Okay. Stephen Semple: Forrest is pissed. And basically he decides that what he needs to do is just go on a vacation and cool off. So he takes a vacation to Spain, and he saw these chocolate candies made by Rowntree that are called Smarties. Dave Young: Um, okay. Stephen Semple: That don't melt, and he had never saw a candy coating on chocolate. So he decides to take Smarties to America. He returns to the U.S., leaves the UK company in the hands of the number two, but he needs a supply of milk chocolate. And where does he need to get that is Hershey's. Dave Young: Okay. Stephen Semple: But he's brand new. Hershey's is not super interested in doing it. So what he does is he knows the president of Hershey's. His son Murray, is never going to make it in the Hershey's business. So he offers Murray. He says, "Hey, you guys, sell me this chocolate. I'll make Murray, I'll give him an executive position plus 20% of the company." Dave Young: Wow. Okay. Stephen Semple: So they go, done. Murray's now set up. Dave Young: Murray's out of our hair. Stephen Semple: Murray's out of our hair. Dave Young: Not our problem anymore. Stephen Semple: What they do is they create this candy based upon Smarties. Dave Young: Wait a minute, wait a minute. Murray? Stephen Semple: Murray. Dave Young: Mars. Stephen Semple: Mars. Dave Young: MM. And the candy-coated chocolate? Stephen Semple: Is M&M's. Dave Young: M&M's, yeah. Oh, wow. So it was the son of Mars and the son of Hershey's. Stephen Semple: Yes. Dave Young: Who knew? Stephen Semple: Right. Dave Young: That's amazing. Stephen Semple: So they need to build a factory and they want to make it stand out. So how they first package M&M's is instead of in a little bag, remember where they used to always come in a tube? Dave Young: Oh, I remember them coming in a tube, but not in my childhood. That was sort of a theater thing later on. Stephen Semple: But that's how they first came was in a cardboard tube. That was how they first came. Dave Young: Oh. You know, I kind of do remember that with like a folded wadded piece of paper at the end to hold it shut, yeah. Okay. Stephen Semple: Yeah, it was first in this... In Canada I remember them with a little plastic thing on the end, but yeah, they're originally in the tube. So it's 1941. War breaks out in the United States. Factories all across, all industries are dedicated to the war effort.

Welcome back to the Night Owl team's exploration of the Austin Antique Mall, a cherished landmark in the heart of Austin that has recently faced its final chapter. As they dive into Part II of their series, the team stands at the entrance of a sprawling 30,000-square-foot labyrinth, filled with echoes of the past and whispers of the supernatural. In their initial phone interviews, they heard from staff and vendors who shared their personal encounters with the strange and unexplained. Kate recounted feeling an unsettling energy in various corners of the mall, particularly in the Southwest End, where she sensed a heavy presence. Vicki, a long-time vendor, confirmed the belief that some antiques hold onto the spirits of their former owners, especially after the sudden passing of their beloved colleague, Patrick. Renae shared her own eerie experiences, from a shaking chandelier during her pregnancy to a haunting encounter with a light fixture she believed still carried Patrick's playful influence. Draven, who grew up in the mall, described shadowy figures and an intense feeling of being watched, reinforcing the notion that spirits can attach themselves to the memories embedded in these objects.Today, the Night Owl team—Stephen, Alexis, and Franklyn—are joined by psychic mediums Jeffery and Kate the Brave for a challenging investigation. The vastness of the space, combined with the countless objects, furniture, and clothing believed to house energies from the past, presents quite a daunting task. With only a few hours to explore, they understand they won't be able to uncover everything this place has hiding in the shadows. However, they remain hopeful of connecting with some significant energies, pinpointing locations of interest, and, while keeping expectations in check due to the sensitive nature of one particular energy, they still hope that Patrick might come through, as the staff firmly believes he still lingers here. Will they unveil the secrets hidden within these walls? Or will the ghosts of the past continue to elude them? Join the Night Owl team as they step into the shadows of the Austin Antique Mall, ready to confront the unknown.Photo by Tito Castaneda EPISODE SPONSORS:BETTERHELPThe Night Owl is sponsored by BetterHelp. About Franklyn Baker and United Way of Central Maryland: Cross-functional nonprofit management executive with over 28 years of experience in strategic planning, business operations, process improvement, change management, financial and data management, proposal and product development, health policy and promotion, legal affairs, clinical programs oversight, sales and marketing, regulatory compliance, and provider and community relations. Specialties: Business process reengineering, change management, contract negotiation, government and provider affairs, regulatory compliance, legislative advocacy, program and policy development, product design, proposal writing, market expansion, asset management, housing development, financial analysis and reporting and business operations. COMMITMENT TO EQUITY STATEMENT United Way of Central Maryland promotes equity, creates opportunity, and improves lives by increasing access to education, employment, health, and housing. We achieve equity by dismantling systemic and institutional barriers underrepresented communities face in pursuit of happiness and the quest to realize their dreams. We respect and value all people without regard to race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, national origin or citizenship status, age or ability status. We expect our partner organizations, grantees, staff, volunteers, board members, vendors, and key collaborators to uphold these standards. OUR COMMUNITY United Way commits to pursuing a more just, fair, and equitable society where one's background does not predict future outcomes. We vigorously reject and vehemently oppose racism, sexism, discrimination, prejudice, and injustice in all forms. We believe access to opportunities need not be predicated by one's race, gender identity, sexual orientation, or social characteristics. Our mission is to empower leaders and mobilize the caring power of communities to improve lives. As a leader in uniting and motivating others for good, we tackle tough problems by co-creating solutions with change agents and grassroots leaders representing all walks of life. We amplify the power and impact of neighborhood leaders and link them to much-needed resources to bring about real change. OUR PEOPLE United Way believes in a diverse workforce reflecting the richness and vibrancy of the community we serve. Equity, diversity, and inclusion principles drive our work and undergird our vision of an inclusive workplace where differences are embraced, and employees feel a real sense of belonging. These same ideals are shared by our board members, donors, and volunteers. OUR IMPACT We apply an equity lens to our neighborhood initiatives and impact work, to ensure that clients and community stakeholders representing different backgrounds maintain equitable access to services, support, and resources. We are committed to responsible community investment and the equitable distribution of grant funds. We seek to strengthen families by ensuring sustainable employment that pays a wage that allows for a secure place to call home, access to healthcare and healthy food, and education. Far too often, historical inequities and institutional racism result in deeper educational disparities among students of diverse backgrounds, particularly students of color. By supporting the potential of young people striving for a quality education, we can significantly improve postsecondary outcomes and access to stable employment. We employ evidence-based approaches to address complex community needs. By listening actively and gathering data about the challenges facing those in our region, we craft evidence-based solutions that will stand the test of time. We disaggregate data by race and gender to address disparities, unearth structural inequities, and generate actionable solutions to deep-seated, systemic challenges. We will keep you updated on our progress.

Call Her Daddy, the podcast sensation that skyrocketed Alex Cooper and Sofia Franklyn to fame with their 'women's locker room talk,' hits an abrupt pause as the two go from partners-in-crime to sworn enemies. Two rising stars, a devoted fan base, a mysterious boyfriend named ‘Suitman', and bigwigs at Barstool Sports all face off in an epic showdown. But what really happened? Was this a high-stakes battle for control of a multi-million dollar entertainment empire, or simply what some have called a “catfight” between two podcasters with overinflated egos? And in this high-stakes showdown, did Alex and Sofia weaponize their respective fan bases? Originally aired 8.12.22 Sofia Franklyn (the host of Sofia with an F podcast, co-founder of Call Her Daddy, overall GOAT) is on the show to talk about why she walked away from Call Her Daddy; famously, before her former co-host cut a $60 million deal at Spotify. In this era of the Great Resignation, we are more empowered than ever to understand— and ask for— our worth. Sofia tells you how. Plus, how to get the best ROI on your bae (Birkin anyone?!).
Haunted House attractions have been around for over a century and here in Austin, The House of Torment has been evoking fear and eliciting screams from guests for over 20 years. However, in a place designed to scare attendees with props, sound effects, and professional actors, in this long standing haunt, the actors hiding behind hidden doors are experiencing strangeness that has them fearful to do their job. In the previous episode the team learned from some of the staff and founders that the haunt has been experiencing paranormal activity since its early beginnings at their Highland Mall location, and oddly enough, continues today in their current Ridgepoint location. Now, the team dives deeper into the more recent activity experienced here at Ridgepoint from new voices that not only reaffirm some of the experiences we've heard from the previous episode, but bring to light some newer experiences that include physical attacks and rumors of a young girl spirit. Finally, through the interviews and a walkthrough the haunt, Stephen, Franklyn and Alexis and I will make an eerie discovery that could be a source for the activity they are experiencing in the most active site, Haunt 3, the Haunted Manor. It's a full house this week Sloots! Today Sofia is joined by Sloot Media members Alex and Kiana! It's rare to have this much of the band in one place (and in a stable mindset), so it was only right to do an honorary episode. This week we are getting a VERY inside look at the inner workings of Sloot Media. From how Sofia and Kiana's secret love affair began (thanks to our very own Milfhunter/Ghostwriter), to how the Sloot team came to be, and some VERY honest opinions from Alex and Kiana about their boss - some of which takes her breath away live on air (and not necessarily in a good way). Aside from bursting Sofia's bubble, the girls also take time to give their (maybe controversial) opinions on the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp trial. Finally, for our most philosophical Sloot University yet, these three geniuses discuss how to TRULY live a happy life - even if that means being living in complete delusions of grandeur. Hey, we do what we gotta do to survive right? If you ever wanted to know what goes on behind closed doors at the Sloot offices, look no further and DEFINITELY brace yourselves.
