130: Untying the Knots of Divorce with Marisa Lupo In this episode I am speaking with Marisa Lupo, of Marisa Lupo Coaching. Marisa is a certified life coach who has mastered strategies that empower women in her private practice to cultivate an authentic life overflowing with love, meaning, and passion. Graduating with a degree in business management, she quickly became a successful real estate investor of over 15 years. After having checked all the boxes that she thought were going to lead her to the happiness she craved, something deep within her was still missing. Unfulfilled with purpose she left her career to follow a life of meaning. Purpose emerged through her most difficult time; an entangled divorce with two children, a very opinionated Italian family, without much support from those closest to her. She developed the tools and strategies to untie the knots of divorce that bound her and started living a life of freedom. The fire that blazes within her is her deepest desire to help stop the suffering, stop living a checklist life, and start living a life of authenticity. In her coaching she guides women through untying the knots and teaches them how to emerge into their highest self. Marisa is an author in the upcoming collaborative book, Own Your Choices. I am so grateful to have linked arms with Marisa. Her story will bring tears to your eyes and touch your heart! In this episode, we discuss: We are all breaking generational chains by choosing something different for our life. It isn’t easy. It is necessary to create a massive change in our lives that we are all capable of creating. Learning how to let go of the shame and guilt of our stories is truly the most freeing feeling in the world. Without ownership, nothing can change, ever. All roads lead to healing and when we must put our healing as a top priority. #124: Radical Responsibility – What the Heck is it? In this Monday mindset episode, we are diving into Radical Responsibility and what the heck it actually means. I am sharing daily messages on social media for the month of April and supporting my friend, Samantha Kris' #365daysofclarity challenge. Today I am breaking down what I will be covering this month and how I will be diving into this topic to help you to learn how to take Radical Responsibility in your life. Follow the # on Instagram and if you are ready to create change, follow along every day and let us know how you are implementing these changes in your life. In this episode, we discuss: In order to learn how to take Radical Responsibility in our lives, we must start by breaking down the stories, the shame stories and the limiting beliefs that we are holding onto. We must be able to break down and figure out what story we are buying into in order to write a new story. We are truly in a time and space where we are coming face to face with having very little control over what is happening to us with covid19. We never had control with our outside world, it is just a time where we are experiencing that we can only control ourselves and that includes how we handle and react to what we are given. Our response is under our control. Recognizing what we do have control of as ourselves, what are the things that need to change in your life as of today? What do you need to add or take away? In times of chaos, everything is changing constantly, so it is even more important that we focus on what is our responsibility to control. When we focus on taking radical responsibility for ourselves, we own what is ours to own, and ultimately, we become more powerful. This is how we step into our leadership potential and this is what the world is calling on us to do now. #124: Radical Responsibility – What the Heck is it? In this Monday mindset episode, we are diving into Radical Responsibility and what the heck it actually means. I am sharing daily messages on social media for the month of April and supporting my friend, Samantha Kris’ #365daysofclarity challenge. #122: Raise Your Standards Not Your Expectations In this Monday mindset episode, I am sharing the lessons I learned this past week. There is a very specific distinction between standards and expectations. One is based on fact and one is based on fiction. I have always been one to set very high expectations for myself, and as a person who has always been driven and pushes towards goals, I am learning to let go of or shift the meaning of expectations. In the weeks following isolation and physical distancing of coronavirus, I went full speed ahead into my online business, only to realize I was setting ridiculous expectations for myself. Instead I had to learn to understand what my standards were and to raise them accordingly. I promise I am always learning and always a work in progress. In this episode, we discuss: A standard is a fact. It is a level of quality that is accepted by the norm. Standards are based on our current needs, what we are doing, the actions we are taking, and the environment that we are surrounding ourselves with. These are the standards we choose to live with in our life. An expectation is a strong belief that something is going to happen in the future. It is fictional and based on our internal beliefs of what we think we should be attaining. As soon as the word should is part of the sentence, seriously run. It is time to shift away from “should'ing” on ourselves. Expectations are based on beliefs, our willpower, our biased premonitions and tend to lead to anger, frustration, resentment and disappointment. Our expectations don't always align with our personal needs. In order to create change, we must focus on raising our standards. One example of standards is our environment and who we choose to surround ourselves with. As Jim Rohn said, “we are the sum of the 5 people we spend the most time with”. If we want to create change we must raise our standards of the people we choose to surround ourselves with. As Lori Harder said, “our environment will always be stronger than our willpower”. We must raise our standards for our environment as this will always take us further than expectations any day. Looking at where we can raise our standards in our life in such areas as self-care, owning our choices, setting our sights on our new normal. We are not going back to normal, we are creating a new normal by raising our standards. #121: Fighting Cancer Through Vulnerability with Beau Whitman In this episode I am speaking with Beau Whitman, a Personal Trainer and Motivator to so many people. Beau is one of seven siblings in the Whitman family. Growing up with two younger brothers and four older sisters – all of whom are supportive, passionate, and wildly competitive – shaped who Beau is as an athlete, coach, trainer and person. His athletic career began at Parkettes National Gymnastics Training Center where he trained as a competitive gymnast for twelve years. After retiring, he competed as a five-sport varsity athlete in high school, participating in Soccer, Diving, Wrestling, Lacrosse, and Track & Field. With its close ties to Gymnastics, Pole Vaulting captured Beau's heart and led him to join the Lehigh Mountain Hawks Division I Track & Field Team at Lehigh University. After college, Beau accepted a position at New York University as the Assistant Jumps Coach for the Track & Field Team. Here he uncovered his passion for coaching and helping other athletes. Beau became a trainer and CrossFit coach so that he could further help people achieve their goals, compete, and recover from injuries. Having experienced six major reconstructive procedures during his athletic career, Beau understands the physical endurance and restraint, as well as the positive mentality necessary to successfully recover from an injury. Following the mantra, “rebuilt to inspire”, Beau works with injured athletes to make full recoveries and motivates them to come back both physically and mentally stronger. In this episode, we discuss: Everything happens for a reason. We aren't necessarily supposed to understand or make sense of the reason, yet there is always something we can make of our challenges and our story. Vulnerability is something Beau truly embraces as he challenges himself and others to go 5 layers deep in our questions. Allowing ourselves to be vulnerable is what truly connects us to each other. Beau's mantra, “rebuilt to inspire”, is a mantra that he truly lived and continues to live on a daily basis. We always teach what we learn. That is what makes us powerful human beings and authentic in our message. Beau openly shared and documented his cancer journey online to offer support to others and this connected him with so many people that he became an inspiration for. #120: Controlling What We Can Control In this Monday mindset episode, I am sharing the lessons I am reminded of week #1 of the coronavirus. We are always learning and relearning our own lessons. That is why we can teach them. Week #1 has been a massive change for all us. Seriously that is an understatement. It has impacted our outside world as much as our online world. We still always have the ability to choose how we respond. WE can choose the BE the change in this world, in our world. In this episode, we discuss: We must focus on controlling what we can control. Our response, our choices, our thoughts and our actions are all our choices In times of unknown we must do the things to take care of ourselves, self-care, boundaries and letting go of what we can't control all become a top priority. It is the only way we can handle the daily stressors and challenges. What if we use this time to breathe, slow down and decide if we are actually doing what we want to do? What if evaluate what we are doing in our life and maybe decide it is time to make some changes? The time to learn how to lead ourselves is now. The world is calling for us to step up and be leaders so we can continue to light the way for others. My lesson on repeat is to BE the change we want to see in this world. #118: Leadership & Ownership – Now is the Time In this episode, I am diving into my thoughts of this drastically changing world as we are all dealing with the COVID-19 Virus that is impacting everyone worldwide. In this episode, we discuss: When life challenges us our first reaction tends to be to retreat, yet this only isolates us even more. We can only choose to feed fear or faith. Feeding the fear keeps us stuck. Feeding the faith allows us to see each other, to connect and to support each other through this difficult time. The world is requiring us to step up and show up as leaders to make a difference. Taking ownership and taking radical ownership for ourselves is how we create change in our lives. 117: Your Voice is Powerful - IWD 2020 In this Monday Mindset Episode, I am celebrating International Woman’s Day 2020 by saying thank you to all of the women who have gone before me to pave the way for what I am creating. I share some tips that have created an impact in my life and I hope that they will do the same for you. In this episode, we discuss: Going back to the beginning (5-6 years ago) when I felt so alone, isolated and had no idea what to do next. I knew I didn’t want to feel the way I did but didn’t know where you start. I joined facebook groups, I hid in the background watching, observing until I could find the courage to speak up and trust my voice. Eventually I started attending events, hiring coaches, and joining programs to learn how to change my circumstances. These were all lead by incredible women who went first! When you are feeling stuck, alone and not sure what to do next, how can you BE the change you wish you could see in the world? Who can you support, who can you give back to without any expectation in return? Who can you celebrate, because when your sister wins, you win too! Where can you speak up and use your voice, even and especially when you are scared? My biggest advice is to stop doing it alone. That is never the way. We always go further together. #116: Finding the Courage to Change with Kelly Thorne I am thrilled to be speaking with Kelly Thorne, Speaker, Author and Advocate. Kelly and I connected online almost 3 years ago. She has continued to be my reminder to show up and share my story, we never know who is listening and ready to hear our story. Kelly is one of the authors in the upcoming collaborative book, Own Your Choices. Kelly is an advocate for families living alongside addiction. Her mission is to help families find freedom in their own lives, remove guilt, and empower themselves on their journey of self - discovery. In addition to being a spouse living alongside addiction, Kelly has her own personal story of addiction and recovery. She uses her journey to deliver an educational and informative talk that is warm, lighthearted, and engages her audience to think. Kelly has been an educator for twenty years with the District School Board of Niagara. She facilitates workshops, has spoken at events in Southern Ontario, and offers online support to families through her facebook page Finding Freedom from an Addicted Loved One. In this episode, we discuss: Living with shame stories can lead us to living a double life as we work hard to hide our stories from everyone. We tend to want to avoid judgment as much as possible. We always have a choice with what we choose to accept, tolerate or decide to change in our life. The decisions can be hard but they are always still a choice. Learning to own and share our stories can truly be the freedom we are searching for. We are the solutions that other people are searching for. The lessons we learned can be shared with others when we embrace and grow our courage to change and embrace what is possible. It’s ok to be scared when we learn to share our story. Don’t let the fear stop you from paying it forward to others. #115: "Breaking Through Your Energy Blocks” In this Monday Mindset Episode, I am sharing my tips on the power of energy blocks in our life. Energy is our GPS that is trying to direct us towards potential opportunites and away from things that are not working for us. When our energy is poor or low, it becomes this massive block in our life that stops other opportunites from reaching us. The opposite is that every time our energy is high, we become a magnet for opportunities that we couldn’t see before. We are the ones who can change our energy. It is truly our responsibility! In this episode, we discuss: Identify where our energy is high and low in our life. Where can we listen to the signs our energy is giving us? Where can we trust what our energy is telling us? Where can we take ownership of what is and is not working in our lives. This is where we have the ability to create change. Paint out the worst case scenario if we choose to follow the energy and change. #113: "One of My Fav Brene Brown Quotes” In this Monday Mindset Episode, I am sharing one of my fav Brene Brown quotes: “ I now see how owning our story and loving ourselves through the process is the bravest thing that we will ever do.” ~ Brene Brown In this episode, we discuss: Embracing change and everything that life is trying to bring to us, yet we are blocked by our “stories” or our shame of what everyone else will think of us. Ownership literally changes everything. We cannot change anything if we don’t own it first and if we don’t own it, it owns you. Loving ourselves with compassion and grace through our difficult stories is truly the only way to live. It takes tremendous practice to learn how to do this, yet it is such a powerful lesson. Learn to accept and maybe eventually love the lessons your story is teaching you. Don’t make it about the trauma of the story, shift it to be about the lessons you’ve learned. #112: "You Are Your Best Teacher” In this Monday Mindset Episode, I am sharing my thoughts on recognizing that you are your best teacher. I completely believe, support and practice investing in ourselves with coaches, mentors and people who are successfully doing what we are working toward. Coaching with others can literally shorten our learning curve and help us with the challenges that will be in our path. I do also believe that we are our best teacher! We are being guided by our future self, by our intuition, and learning from all of the experiences that we have lived! We are literally our best teacher! In this episode, we discuss: Accepting that in order to create change we must recognize that we must commit to doing the work. Coaching with mentors is important, yet we have to do the work too! Ask yourself the hard questions: Am I happy? If no, what needs to change to change this? What do I need more of or less than in order to change this? Do my choices line up with what I want to create or where I want my life to go? Recognize that you have made a number of choices that have brought you to here and you truly have overcome a number of obstacles and challenges. You are truly stronger than you think and you have been a teacher somewhere in your life to get to here. "Lessons From My Book" - 2 Years Later” In this Episode, I am sharing my thoughts on the lessons I have learned from my book – 2 Years Later. It is hard to believe that it has been 2 years since I released my book, “When She Stopped Asking Why”. November is such a month of reflection for me as I remember the emotions and the experience of releasing something so vulnerable to the world! One of the things I am the most grateful for is that this podcast wouldn’t be a reality if I didn’t step into the space and the energy of writing the book first! In this episode I share the top lessons I learned from my book: 1. Fear is real – the fear of judgement, uncertainty, self-worth, the opinions of others – it is all real! Denying or resisting it does not change it. Accepting that it is a real emotion and learning how to move through it, is where the magic lies! We decide how much value we give it or how much control it has in our lives. 2. Action trumps everything. All the thinking, planning, to-do lists in the world will not create change in your life! 3. Our stories matter. There is so much value in the lessons we have lived and learned, it gives hope to others, reminds them that they are not alone and it allows us to step in and create the impact we were meant to create. It gives purpose to our pain. 4. Nothing will change until we are ready to receive. Receiving can be such a tough thing for women/people in general to learn as we tend to not create space and opportunity for receiving to happen. Staying strong, pushing, perfectionism, are all traits that are blocking us from receiving! 5. Owning our choices and taking radical responsibility in our lives is the path to true freedom! 6. The WHAT is all that matters! Stop asking why and victim questions. No change will come from that. Focus on the what and that will get you into action to create change! 7. Be open to the unexpected. Some of the most incredible opportunities will come from the most unexpected places in our lives. Stay open to what is possible! 109: What Chapter Are You Stuck On?” In this Episode, I am touching on the topic of living in comparison and how we use that concept of comparing our journey, or our chapter to someone else. I am sure you have heard the saying, “don’t compare your chapter 1 to someone else’s chapter 10. Whenever we live in comparison, we take our eyes off our own journey, we forget our gifts, our personal power, our strengths and our abilities. It also is important to remember that we truly don’t know the journey someone else has been on. We think we do because of social media, but we must remember that it is only showcasing their highlight reel. We truly have no idea the personal work, the years that someone else has dedicated to their journey. In this episode I share the top tips of how to move forward another chapter in your life: 1. Own where you are at, start where you are. If you haven’t even bought the book, or opened it, then start there. If you are on chapter 1, that is where you are. Chapter 1 is a great starting place. 2. When someone has achieved something you want to achieve, celebrate their success because it is what is possible for you too. There is no lack or scarcity, only abundance, possibility and opportunities. This is a mindset shift that takes time to adopt, yet it is worth learning HOW to shift this thinking! 3. Commit to doing the work. If it takes 1 year, 10 years or a lifetime, commit to doing the work on a daily basis. Habits, rituals, mindset work, all of it is work, but it is how we can create the changes we are desperately praying for. 4. Find someone who has what you want and choose to learn from them. Make sure it is someone who is authentically sharing their journey, how they got to where they are and learn from them. Whether it is through their books, podcasts, blogs, posts, programs or mentorship, commit to learning from someone who has walked the path you want to walk. 5. Play the long game. It takes time to go from chapter 1 – chapter 10. You don’t get to jump 10 chapters. It is always only one chapter at a time. It takes time, commitment and persistence to create lasting change in our lives. 6. Decide where you can move the needle first. What do you need to STOP doing and START doing in order to create change? Is it ownership, letting go of blame, anger, judgement, taking responsibility for your choices, self-care, or finding your courage? Decide where to start, what to let go of and what to start doing. "The Path to Building My Courage” In this Episode, I am answering one of the questions I received on how I found my courage to speak up and share my story. I reference the quote by Brene Brown that truly sums up my journey of building my courage and how I decided to continue to follow this path. “Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen. Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance. Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage.” ~ Brene Brown In this episode I share the top tips of building my courage: 1. Changing or shifting my mindset to allow more positive thoughts, and less toxic thoughts in is where it changed. I was also committed to removing the negative thoughts, language, mindset and lack of self-worth that was consuming me. 2. I looked back to where I showed courage in my life before to provide evidence to myself that I did have the tools and the ability to move forward one more step. Providing contrary evidence truly shifts our thoughts, beliefs and mindset. 3. I recognized that I had a deep trust of myself for what feels right, what the right decision was and what the best decision was for me. This is from years of learning to listen to that inner voice. 4. The only way I could find the feeling of belonging was to improve my level of self-acceptance. I had to find a way to love, forgive, honour and trust myself again. 5. I accepted that I wasn’t being authentic with anyone including myself. There was no way I could build relationships with anyone because I didn’t allow anyone to see the real me and how much I was truly suffering. 6. From the point I collapsed on the floor, I let go, fully surrendered and I made a choice that my life would look different moving forward and I agreed to pay it back in some way shape or form. Learning how to surrender truly saved my life. 7. The more I practiced vulnerability by sharing my story, it brought other people into my life who needed to hear that they weren’t alone and that continued to feed me and fuel me that I was on the right path. It was a cycle I chose to continue to repeat. It led to my freedom. “10 Signs of Inner Strength” In this Monday Mindset Episode, I am sharing my thoughts on the 10 Signs of Inner Strength. There is far more than 10, and these aren’t the only 10. These are the 10 that resonate with me. I regularly receive messages asking, “how do I stay strong”, and “how do I stay motivated” etc. No one ever stays strong or stays motivated. It is a regular daily practice made up from our daily habits, rituals and practices. There are so many more things I could have added to this list, these were the ones that stood out to me today. In this episode we talk about the 10 signs of inner strength: 1. Accepting that we don’t have to know it all. In fact this is impossible to do, and this is from pressure we are putting on ourselves that is completely unattainable. 2. Follow and listen to the energy. When our internal energy is off, it is telling us that we are not doing enough to fill our own cups, and we are relying solely on ourselves to find the solution. 3. When we recognize that we don’t have all the answers, our next step is asking for help. Whether it is in business, our personal lives, etc., we must accept that asking for help is not weakness it is a sign of strength. When we surround ourselves with the right people we have a better chance of asking for help and not feeling that it is a sign of weakness. 4. Saying NO. Practice it, and say it with no guilt or stress. Honouring what we need, listening and following through is an incredibly important practice to build our inner strength. 5. When we say no to something else, we give ourselves a chance to say yes to ourselves. We must make ourselves a priority in our lives if we are to give ourselves a fighting chance to handle all of the different responsibilities we have on our plates. 6. Stop living in comparisonitis. Constantly comparing our journey to others, is never accurate, we truly don’t know someone else’s story, and it causes us to forget what we are truly capable of and how powerful we are! 7. Accepting and practicing radical ownership of ourselves, our actions, choices, and decisions reminds us that we are in the drivers seat in our lives. 8. Be kind toward others, especially when life is challenging. Kindness and gratitude put us into a higher vibration, lifting our energy and reminding us that someone else is struggling more than we are. This can help to change our perspective away from ourselves. 9. Ask where can we shift our perspective from being a victim to asking what is this trying to teach me, and how can we use these lessons to help impact, serve and support others. 10. Recognize what we do have, what we are capable of, what we have overcome, what lessons have we learned and truly how freaking badass we all truly are!
