In this episode, I am thrilled to share my reflections following the Outspoken Master Practitioner immersion, a transformative six-day experience where we practiced and experienced the tools of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). This was my first time leading such an intensive program, and while it came with its challenges, I emerged with invaluable insights about myself and my coaching practice. I also touch on the subconscious mind's inclination to cling to familiar patterns, even if they lead to exhaustion. I highlight the significance of pausing and integrating our experiences rather than falling into the trap of perfectionism and overdoing it. By recognizing these patterns, we can reprogram our thoughts and create a more balanced approach to our work and lives. Marsha emphasizes that the journey of self-expansion often requires stepping outside of one's comfort zone, a concept that many coaches advocate. She shares her own experiences of entering unfamiliar spaces, often feeling scared and uncertain, yet recognizing that these moments were crucial for her growth. Throughout the episode, Marsha discusses the importance of discernment when choosing which rooms to enter. In this episode, Marsha discusses the concept of Unbothered and its importance in building resilience as an entrepreneur, where you will inevitably face rejection, setbacks, and criticism. It's essential to recognize that these challenges are part of the journey. Instead of allowing our armour to block us from feeling and experiencing life, we should focus on building a supportive armour that empowers us. This includes utilizing tools such as hypnosis, meditation, journaling, and exercise to create a strong foundation for resilience. Being unbothered does not mean being indifferent or numb; instead, it means holding your vision and emotions without attaching negative stories to them. I encourage listeners to reflect on the armour they wear daily and to consider how they can shift from a heavy, blocking armour to a light, supportive one. This transformation is vital for amplifying your voice and message as an entrepreneur. In this episode, I am sharing the concept of "armour" and how it impacts our lives, drawing inspiration from a powerful quote by Brené Brown. I reflect on my personal journey of wearing this metaphorical armour, which I initially believed was a protective shield against judgment, criticism, and the opinions of others. This armour, while it served a purpose for a time, became a suffocating prison. I learned that dropping the armour allowed me to embrace vulnerability, find my voice, and heal. I emphasize the importance of recognizing that our motivation can either stem from avoiding pain or moving towards pleasure. Many of us are great at articulating what we don't want, but struggle to define what we truly desire. I share the difference between defensive armour, which is fear-based and limiting, and "unbothered armour," which supports our boundaries and personal growth. This unbothered armour is about using daily practices and resources to maintain a balanced and regulated nervous system, allowing us to stand tall in the face of criticism and challenges. In this episode, I share how your energy speaks far louder than your strategy.  I emphasize that no matter how well-prepared we are with scripts or strategies, if our energy is off, whether it's anxious, ungrounded, or frustrated, our message will fall flat. I encourage listeners to prioritize their own energy and well-being before attempting to lead or connect with others. If we are running on empty, we cannot effectively serve or inspire those around us. Throughout the episode, I share personal anecdotes and insights about how our nervous systems constantly scan for safety and congruence in our environments. I highlight the importance of being regulated and grounded, as this energy is magnetic and attracts the right opportunities and people. 913 | The Subconscious Cost of Being Bothered

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 29, 2025 15:26

In this episode, I share the subconscious cost of being bothered, emphasizing how replaying past conversations and experiences can drain our energy and hinder our ability to focus on future goals. Our subconscious mind does not differentiate between past and present; it reacts to our thoughts as if they are current realities. This can lead to a cycle of negativity that keeps us stuck in the past, preventing us from moving forward. Throughout the episode, I encourage listeners to recognize the high price of being bothered—both in terms of mental bandwidth and emotional energy. I provide an example of this, comparing it to an overdraft in a bank account, where we continually pay for experiences that no longer serve us. Instead, I advocate for a shift in perspective: rather than replaying what went wrong, we should focus on what we can learn from those experiences and how we can grow. In this episode, I am sharing a concept I heard Ed Mylett say on a podcast that sparked the idea I want to explore today: "Your ceiling is your biggest thought." I begin by expressing gratitude for a recent review from a listener named Wendy, who shared how my podcast has helped her shift her mindset and overcome limiting beliefs. This ties perfectly into the theme of today's episode, where I delve into the concept of our mental ceilings—those self-imposed limits that dictate what we believe is possible for ourselves. I challenge you to consider the biggest thought you've ever allowed yourself to hold. This thought represents your ceiling, and it shapes your reality. For many years, I found myself stuck in a cycle of earning the same income, unaware that I could break free from that limitation. Our thoughts create our ceilings, and if we want to achieve more, we must learn to think bigger. In this episode, I am sharing five judgments, particularly in the context of building a business rooted in authenticity. As entrepreneurs, we are bound to face judgment when we put ourselves and our messages out into the world. I emphasize that while we cannot control how others perceive us, we can choose how we respond to their opinions. These are common judgments that many of my clients and I have encountered on our journeys, and I share reframes to help you see these judgments differently. In this episode, I discuss a question: What if being delusional is your best strategy? I explore the idea that to be an entrepreneur, you often need to hold beliefs that may not align with current reality. This "delusional" mindset allows you to envision possibilities that others may not see, which is crucial when you're building a business, writing a book, or creating something new. Throughout the episode, I emphasize that not everyone is meant to understand your vision, and that's perfectly okay. I encourage listeners to gather evidence of their past successes and to shift their definitions of what it means to be delusional. I start by addressing a common sentiment among writers: the confusion about how subconscious rewiring relates to the writing process. Many people have invested in strategy programs, only to find themselves stuck and questioning their abilities.  I explain that our subconscious mind is a powerful force, controlling 95% of our actions and beliefs. It stores all our past experiences, decisions, and identities, which can create hidden blocks that prevent us from pursuing our writing goals. We discuss the power of vulnerability in her solo episodes, where she imparts valuable lessons from her own experiences, even when she doesn't share every detail of her life. We also touch on the theme of reinvention, pivots, and permission, exploring the beliefs Marsha had to let go of to become the person she is today. She emphasizes the importance of speaking life into what we want, rather than focusing on what we don't want, and provides practical advice for listeners seeking to shift their mindset. Marsha gives a sneak peek into her upcoming solo book, which aims to provide a framework for others to shift their mindset and overcome obstacles. In this episode, we are on the brink of a significant milestone—episode 900! As I prepare to share more of my journey in the upcoming episode, I want to dive deep into a topic that I believe is crucial for anyone looking to make an impact, whether through writing, coaching, speaking, or any other form of expression. Today, I discuss the importance of sharing your story and how it connects to building genuine relationships with others. Many people underestimate the power of their narrative, thinking that strategy alone will lead to success. Strategy is only 5% of the equation; the remaining 95% lies in our subconscious mind and our ability to embody our true selves. In this episode, I discuss the everyday struggles many authors face, such as fear of judgment from family and friends, and the realization that we cannot control how others perceive our words. Our internal representation of the world shapes our responses, and I share personal anecdotes to illustrate how our states can influence our reactions to others. Instead of focusing on the strategy first, it is essential to get into the right state of mind, energy, and nervous system regulation before writing. Our subconscious mind, which governs 95% of our actions, responds to feelings of safety rather than willpower. This means that before we can write authentically, we must ensure our nervous system is regulated and grounded, and we are clear about the intention as to why we are being called to write and share our story. In this episode, I explore the concept of being unbothered vs feeling numb. Being unbothered involves feeling emotions without being controlled by them. I recount my journey over the past couple of years, particularly the challenges I've faced, including navigating past stories of teen substance abuse and personal turmoil. Through these experiences, I have learned to strengthen my boundaries and prioritize self-care, allowing me to listen to my needs rather than numb them. I pose the question: Are you numb or unbothered? I explain the characteristics of both states, highlighting that numbness is a disconnection from our emotions, while being unbothered is about being present and regulated. I share actionable tools for listeners to connect with their emotions, encouraging them to recognize and process feelings without judgment. Today, I speak with Published Author, Dr. Salvatore Forcina. Dr. Forcina is a retired general, vascular, and trauma surgeon who served as the Chief of Surgery at two North Jersey hospitals for years and treated thousands of patients. He is also the author of The American Doctor. This inspiring memoir chronicles his extraordinary journey from humble beginnings in war-torn Italy to becoming a highly respected physician in the United States. Born in 1941 amidst the chaos of World War II, poverty and hardship marked Dr. Forcina's early years. Throughout the war, his family lived in the mountains with other villagers. After it ended, they moved to Argentina when he was eight, in search of a better life. However, the move presented new challenges, including language and cultural differences. To ensure his education, Dr. Forcina's parents sent him to live with priests, where he faced a strict and isolating environment. Despite these difficulties, he excelled in his studies and went on to become a medical doctor. At the age of 28, with only $40 in his pocket and no command of the English language, Dr. Forcina immigrated to America; however, his medical degree was not recognized in the United States. Determined to practice medicine in the U.S., he worked as a hospital tech for three years, drawing blood for a meagre $16 a day while taking foreign equivalency exams to be allowed to begin medical residency. It wasn't until eight years after he arrived in this country, at the age of 36, that he was finally able to begin practicing as a young, unrecognized physician. To support this process, I introduce various tools and techniques, including NLP strategies, that can help writers anchor themselves in a safe internal state before writing. I emphasize the importance of focusing on the intention behind the writing and who it is meant to help, rather than getting bogged down by fears of judgment or criticism. As I share my own journey of writing my first book, "When She Stopped Asking Why," I reflect on how the act of writing helped me heal and reclaim my power. I encourage listeners to visualize their future selves holding their completed books, reminding them that the process of writing is a journey of self-discovery and growth. In this episode, I'm excited to dive into the fascinating topic of the nervous system and its role as our internal GPS. I want to explore how our nervous system influences our ability to pursue our goals, particularly in the context of writing a book. As my publishing house expands and I embark on my next solo project, I reflect on the importance of feeling safe in our pursuits. If our nervous system perceives those goals as unsafe, we will struggle to move forward. Our conscious mind can set a direction, but it is our nervous system and subconscious mind that ultimately determine whether we feel safe pursuing that direction. I highlight the staggering fact that our conscious mind processes only a tiny fraction of the information available to us, which can be overwhelming yet empowering. This means that there is so much more potential within us that we may not even be aware of. 883 | How Your Beliefs Are Blocking Your Ability to Receive More

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 18, 2025 15:41

In this episode, I explore the concept that our ability to receive—whether it be love, money, success, or visibility—is intricately tied to the beliefs we hold about ourselves. I emphasize that beliefs are essentially thoughts we repeat, often subconsciously, which create a filter through which we perceive the world. This filter can either open us up to abundance or limit us based on our self-worth and perceived safety. Throughout the episode, I illustrate how limiting beliefs can act as a "kink in the hose," blocking our ability to receive. I share a powerful example of a client who experienced a contraction every time she received payment, highlighting how guilt and self-doubt can hinder our growth. I stress that no amount of hard work or hustle can compensate for a lack of belief in our worthiness to receive.  I also touch on the importance of our nervous system in this process. If we don't feel safe receiving, we may find ourselves pushing harder and burning out, all while blocking the very abundance we seek. There are many ways to change these beliefs so you can receive all that is available to you. HIGHLIGHTS 00:00:00 - Introduction to Beliefs 00:01:00 - The Connection Between Beliefs and Receiving 00:02:30 - Identifying Kinks in the Hose 00:04:00 - The Impact of Old Beliefs 00:05:30 - The Role of the Nervous System 00:07:00 - Personal Experience with Income and Values 00:08:30 - Rewiring Your Beliefs 00:10:00 - The Importance of Receiving 00:11:30 - Teaching Your Nervous System Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Download “You Are Supported” Hypnosis and Subliminal Bundle HERE  Join the next cohort of OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification (kick-off in Oct 2025 in person or virtual) HERE Learn more about changing the Stories We Tell Ourselves Digital Program HERE. In this episode, I reflect on the first six months of 2025 and how I unpack them before setting goals for the remaining six months of the year. It's essential to acknowledge our resilience and the ways we responded during challenging times. Instead of focusing solely on external validation, I encourage listeners to reflect on their own internal growth and the lessons they have learned. There is this idea of a "gap" between our lofty goals and the subconscious beliefs that may hold us back. This gap can manifest as self-doubt, procrastination, or a fear of visibility. Our subconscious mind plays a crucial role in shaping our results, and if our thoughts do not align with our aspirations, we may inadvertently sabotage our progress. In the episode, I share a series of reflective prompts to help listeners identify the stories they tell themselves, the emotions tied to their goals, and the identities they reinforce through their self-talk. By bringing awareness to these patterns, we can begin to rewire our beliefs and align our thoughts with our desired outcomes. In this episode, I share some insight on how I shift myself through indecision. The real issue isn't the decision itself but the time and energy we spend in the indecisive state. Prolonged indecision can lead to an energy leak, as we worry about disappointing others or making the wrong choice. I share the concept of training our brains to make aligned decisions more quickly and confidently. Our subconscious mind plays a significant role in our decision-making patterns, often leading us to avoid discomfort and fear associated with making choices. I encourage listeners to recognize that indecision is often rooted in outdated beliefs and fears, which can create a gap that keeps us stuck. In this episode, I am sharing the early part of my journey that started with dealing with teen substance abuse, and trying to find the counselling and support that led me to group programs, counsellors, psychologists, and programs, turning over rocks to try to find solutions. In the process, I found the difference between traditional psychology and NLP, recognizing that I am not diagnosing or treating anything. I am sharing my experience.  I eventually discovered a crisis counsellor program that offered me practical guidance during moments of crisis, which was a game-changer for me. This experience led me to question traditional counselling methods, particularly the focus on past trauma, as exemplified by Freud's approach. Instead, I found solace and empowerment in Adler's future-focused perspective, which aligns closely with NLP. NLP is based on shifting our identity and focusing on the future rather than reliving and giving energy to our past traumas, easily allowing that to become our identity.
