Play Episode Listen Later Sep 8, 2025 19:48

In this episode, I am sharing the process of embracing big visions and the fears that often accompany them. I start by sharing a personal anecdote from 2016 when I first received the idea to write my solo book. The initial excitement was quickly overshadowed by fear and skepticism from those around me, which led me to caution against sharing my ideas too freely. I reflect on my experience with launching my NLP coaching certification, Outspoken, where I had to build everything from scratch without any proof of concept. A mentor pointed out the difference between that experience and my current vision for Unbothered, emphasizing that now I have a supportive community that sees the potential in my vision even before I do. This support is crucial as it helps me navigate the fear and excitement that come with pursuing something new. In this episode, I address a common question: how do we shift our thinking? I emphasize that while the concept may be simple, the execution is often challenging. I share my personal experience of being in a crisis and how it forced me to reevaluate my choices and control over my life. I encourage listeners to consider how they want to show up in their lives, especially as we approach the end of the year. I discuss the importance of setting realistic goals and focusing on what we want rather than what we don't want. Many people struggle to articulate their desires, often fixating on their frustrations instead. I challenge listeners to shift their language and mindset, speaking about their aspirations as if they have already been achieved. In this episode, I want to reflect on the core message that has been a guiding principle throughout my life and this podcast: you always have a choice. No matter your age or stage in life, you possess the power to make choices that shape your reality. I understand that it can often feel like circumstances are beyond our control, but I assure you that we can always choose how we respond to those circumstances. At 55 years old and navigating the complexities of the sandwich generation, caring for aging parents while managing a business that feels ever-evolving, I find myself constantly reminded of the importance of choice. You do not need to have everything figured out or be completely healed to start making changes in your life. We are all in a continuous process of becoming, and every small step counts. In this episode, we are on the brink of a significant milestone—episode 900! As I prepare to share more of my journey in the upcoming episode, I want to dive deep into a topic that I believe is crucial for anyone looking to make an impact, whether through writing, coaching, speaking, or any other form of expression. Today, I discuss the importance of sharing your story and how it connects to building genuine relationships with others. Many people underestimate the power of their narrative, thinking that strategy alone will lead to success. Strategy is only 5% of the equation; the remaining 95% lies in our subconscious mind and our ability to embody our true selves. In this episode, I discuss the everyday struggles many authors face, such as fear of judgment from family and friends, and the realization that we cannot control how others perceive our words. Our internal representation of the world shapes our responses, and I share personal anecdotes to illustrate how our states can influence our reactions to others. Instead of focusing on the strategy first, it is essential to get into the right state of mind, energy, and nervous system regulation before writing. Our subconscious mind, which governs 95% of our actions, responds to feelings of safety rather than willpower. This means that before we can write authentically, we must ensure our nervous system is regulated and grounded, and we are clear about the intention as to why we are being called to write and share our story. In this episode, I explore the concept of being unbothered vs feeling numb. Being unbothered involves feeling emotions without being controlled by them. I recount my journey over the past couple of years, particularly the challenges I've faced, including navigating past stories of teen substance abuse and personal turmoil. Through these experiences, I have learned to strengthen my boundaries and prioritize self-care, allowing me to listen to my needs rather than numb them. I pose the question: Are you numb or unbothered? I explain the characteristics of both states, highlighting that numbness is a disconnection from our emotions, while being unbothered is about being present and regulated. I share actionable tools for listeners to connect with their emotions, encouraging them to recognize and process feelings without judgment. Our bodies hold the visceral reactions that they have in response to specific triggers, highlighting the connection between our nervous system and subconscious mind. I share my personal experiences and insights on how to navigate intense feelings while maintaining a positive trajectory in both life and business. I begin by discussing the importance of subconscious reprogramming and nervous system regulation, which have been crucial tools for me in managing my emotions. A recent conversation with a client sparked my interest in the concept of "depersonalizing emotions." 888 | From War-Torn Italy to the American Dream with Dr. Salvatore Forcina

Today, I speak with Published Author, Dr. Salvatore Forcina. Dr. Forcina is a retired general, vascular, and trauma surgeon who served as the Chief of Surgery at two North Jersey hospitals for years and treated thousands of patients. He is also the author of The American Doctor. This inspiring memoir chronicles his extraordinary journey from humble beginnings in war-torn Italy to becoming a highly respected physician in the United States. Born in 1941 amidst the chaos of World War II, poverty and hardship marked Dr. Forcina's early years. Throughout the war, his family lived in the mountains with other villagers. After it ended, they moved to Argentina when he was eight, in search of a better life. However, the move presented new challenges, including language and cultural differences. To ensure his education, Dr. Forcina's parents sent him to live with priests, where he faced a strict and isolating environment. Despite these difficulties, he excelled in his studies and went on to become a medical doctor. At the age of 28, with only $40 in his pocket and no command of the English language, Dr. Forcina immigrated to America; however, his medical degree was not recognized in the United States. Determined to practice medicine in the U.S., he worked as a hospital tech for three years, drawing blood for a meagre $16 a day while taking foreign equivalency exams to be allowed to begin medical residency. It wasn't until eight years after he arrived in this country, at the age of 36, that he was finally able to begin practicing as a young, unrecognized physician. In this episode, I encourage listeners to embrace their fears and recognize that waiting for the perfect moment to share their stories will only lead to inaction. Writing a book is not just about recounting events; it's about reclaiming one's voice and sharing the lessons learned through personal experiences. I discuss how vulnerability can be a superpower, making our stories relatable and real, especially during challenging times. To support this process, I introduce various tools and techniques, including NLP strategies, that can help writers anchor themselves in a safe internal state before writing. I emphasize the importance of focusing on the intention behind the writing and who it is meant to help, rather than getting bogged down by fears of judgment or criticism. As I share my own journey of writing my first book, "When She Stopped Asking Why," I reflect on how the act of writing helped me heal and reclaim my power. I encourage listeners to visualize their future selves holding their completed books, reminding them that the process of writing is a journey of self-discovery and growth. In this episode, I'm excited to dive into the fascinating topic of the nervous system and its role as our internal GPS. I want to explore how our nervous system influences our ability to pursue our goals, particularly in the context of writing a book. As my publishing house expands and I embark on my next solo project, I reflect on the importance of feeling safe in our pursuits. If our nervous system perceives those goals as unsafe, we will struggle to move forward. Our conscious mind can set a direction, but it is our nervous system and subconscious mind that ultimately determine whether we feel safe pursuing that direction. I highlight the staggering fact that our conscious mind processes only a tiny fraction of the information available to us, which can be overwhelming yet empowering. This means that there is so much more potential within us that we may not even be aware of. 883 | How Your Beliefs Are Blocking Your Ability to Receive More

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 18, 2025 15:41

In this episode, I explore the concept that our ability to receive—whether it be love, money, success, or visibility—is intricately tied to the beliefs we hold about ourselves. I emphasize that beliefs are essentially thoughts we repeat, often subconsciously, which create a filter through which we perceive the world. This filter can either open us up to abundance or limit us based on our self-worth and perceived safety. Throughout the episode, I illustrate how limiting beliefs can act as a "kink in the hose," blocking our ability to receive. I share a powerful example of a client who experienced a contraction every time she received payment, highlighting how guilt and self-doubt can hinder our growth. I stress that no amount of hard work or hustle can compensate for a lack of belief in our worthiness to receive.  I also touch on the importance of our nervous system in this process. If we don't feel safe receiving, we may find ourselves pushing harder and burning out, all while blocking the very abundance we seek. There are many ways to change these beliefs so you can receive all that is available to you. In this episode, I reflect on the first six months of 2025 and how I unpack them before setting goals for the remaining six months of the year. It's essential to acknowledge our resilience and the ways we responded during challenging times. Instead of focusing solely on external validation, I encourage listeners to reflect on their own internal growth and the lessons they have learned. There is this idea of a "gap" between our lofty goals and the subconscious beliefs that may hold us back. This gap can manifest as self-doubt, procrastination, or a fear of visibility. Our subconscious mind plays a crucial role in shaping our results, and if our thoughts do not align with our aspirations, we may inadvertently sabotage our progress. In the episode, I share a series of reflective prompts to help listeners identify the stories they tell themselves, the emotions tied to their goals, and the identities they reinforce through their self-talk. In this episode, I am sharing the early part of my journey that started with dealing with teen substance abuse, and trying to find the counselling and support that led me to group programs, counsellors, psychologists, and programs, turning over rocks to try to find solutions. In the process, I found the difference between traditional psychology and NLP, recognizing that I am not diagnosing or treating anything. I am sharing my experience.  I eventually discovered a crisis counsellor program that offered me practical guidance during moments of crisis, which was a game-changer for me. This experience led me to question traditional counselling methods, particularly the focus on past trauma, as exemplified by Freud's approach. Instead, I found solace and empowerment in Adler's future-focused perspective, which aligns closely with NLP. NLP is based on shifting our identity and focusing on the future rather than reliving and giving energy to our past traumas, easily allowing that to become our identity. In this episode, I share my thoughts on the common tendency to chase after goals—reaching a new income level, achieving a sold-out offer, or becoming the version of ourselves we aspire to be. I emphasize that instead of chasing these external validations, we should focus on becoming the person who embodies those goals. Chasing often stems from a place of lack, where we seek external validation to feel worthy. I share stories of individuals who achieved their goals only to find that they still felt unfulfilled, highlighting the importance of internal validation. Throughout the episode, I explore leading from identity rather than chasing lack. I discuss how our nervous systems can become anxious when we feel we are not enough, leading to a constant state of seeking safety and validation. In this episode, I discuss the internal conflict many of us experience, which I metaphorically call a "war" within ourselves. This internal struggle often arises when two parts of us desire different outcomes, leading to feelings of doubt, fear, and uncertainty. I explore how resisting these conflicting parts can perpetuate a cycle of self-sabotage and emotional turmoil. Drawing from a recent in-person Outspoken Intensive, I introduce the powerful tool of Parts Integration, a technique rooted in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). This method allows individuals to recognize and reconcile their opposing parts, ultimately leading to alignment and peace. I emphasize that it's normal to have conflicting desires, such as wanting to grow a business while fearing the responsibilities that come with it. In this episode, I share the power of metaphors and how they can help us understand our subconscious mind. I share a compelling metaphor involving two electrical outlets, one representing our past and the other our future. On the left side, we have the "old plug," connected to our daily thoughts, old patterns, and negative beliefs—essentially everything that has shaped who we are up to this point. This side is familiar and feels safe, but it often keeps us in a negative cycle. On the right side, we have the "new plug," which symbolizes our future potential, aspirations, and the identity we are striving to become. In this episode, I share the concept of becoming the version of ourselves that can hold our dreams before we chase them. Our nervous systems must feel safe and regulated to pursue our goals effectively. If we rush into chasing what we want without first anchoring into our identity, we risk operating from a place of lack rather than power. I share my journey of deciding to publish "Unreserved," highlighting the month I took to reflect on whether I was ready for such a significant commitment. This pause allowed me to assess my beliefs, emotional state, and the blocks that could hinder my ability to lead and sustain the energy of this project. If we chase our goals without addressing our internal barriers, we may experience burnout, self-sabotage, and the inability to sustain the results we are constructing and creating. In this episode, I share the journey of identity work and the ongoing process of breaking down limiting beliefs. After the exhilarating experience of the unreserved book launch party, which involved coordinating with 24 different authors and connecting with women from around the globe, I reflect on the personal growth from such expansive experiences. I emphasize that identity work is not a one-time breakthrough but rather a continuous process of chipping away at the concrete walls of limiting beliefs we have built over the years, if not decades. I share a powerful metaphor: just as you cannot smash through a thick concrete wall in one swing, you must chip away at it gradually. This analogy illustrates how we can shift our identities by consistently challenging and replacing our limiting beliefs. In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on the difference between reacting and responding and how this is connected to a lack or abundance mindset. As we navigate through life's challenges, especially when we feel overwhelmed, it's easy to slip into a reactive mode. Our reactions, which often stem from a place of lack and frustration, continues to reinforce the reality we are living in, and how, by reacting, we may inadvertently be fighting for our limitations. Whatever limitations we fight for, we get to keep.  HIGHLIGHTS 00:01:04 - Reacting vs. Responding 00:02:07 - The Impact of Reactions 00:03:42 - Navigating Life's Demands 00:04:24 - Reinforcing Limitations 00:05:17 - Interrupting the Reaction Pattern 00:06:31 - The Metaphor of a Parasite 00:07:57 - Catching the Reaction 00:09:14 - Building Capacity Through Awareness 00:10:01 - Choosing Safety Without Evidence 00:10:54 - Anchoring into Your Highest Self 00:12:01 - Feeling Wealthy Amidst Lack 00:13:13 - Shifting from Reactivity to Empowerment 00:14:07 - Starving the Reaction Patterns 00:14:40 - Reclaiming Personal Power Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Download “You Are Supported” Hypnosis and Subliminal Bundle HERE  Join the next cohort of OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification (kick-off in March 2025) HERE Learn more about changing the Stories We Tell Ourselves Digital Program HERE. In this episode, I share thoughts on perception and how our brains filter the overwhelming amount of information we encounter daily. I start by expressing my gratitude to listeners for their support and shares, emphasizing the importance of being open to new perspectives and solutions that may be hidden from our view. I introduce the idea that we are not seeing reality as it truly is; instead, we only perceive what we are programmed to look for. With our brains processing 11 million bits of information every second, our conscious minds can only handle about 40 to 50 bits at a time. This means that what we consciously perceive is merely a fraction—0.0004%—of the reality around us. I explain how our brains delete, distort, and generalize information based on our beliefs and focus, which can significantly limit our understanding of the wrld. In this episode, I ask the question, "Can you hold a vision when you can't see it yet?" I challenge the notion that we must wait for tangible evidence, like a certain bank balance or a fully booked calendar, before we can embody the person capable of achieving our dreams. We must first become that person internally to sustain the success we desire. Drawing from my personal experience, I recount my journey from being a kinesiologist for 27 years to embracing my calling as a coach. In 2019, I felt an unshakeable intuition that I would transition into coaching, despite not having a clear plan or business. In this episode, I am sharing about the unexpected ways in which our desires manifest. I want to keep it real and share my insights on how asking the universe for something big often leads to challenges and discomfort rather than immediate fulfillment. I begin by discussing the concept of expansion and contraction, emphasizing that when we seek growth, whether it's in our personal lives, careers, or finances, we often encounter obstacles that feel like setbacks. I share my own journey of asking for expansion this year, only to face a series of personal and professional challenges that left me feeling like I was experiencing the opposite of what I desired. In one example, I share how my husband's injury during a crucial competition I illustrate how life can throw us curveballs just when we think we're on the right path. In this episode, I share some thoughts on how self-sabotage is not merely a sign of weakness or failure, but rather a form of self-protection driven by our subconscious mind. When we find ourselves on the brink of progress, it's common to experience a pullback into old patterns. I want to help you understand why this happens. I challenge the traditional narrative around self-sabotage by encouraging listeners to ask more empowering questions. Instead of questioning, "Why am I doing this?"—which can lead to feelings of shame—I suggest we ask, "What is my subconscious trying to tell me?" This shift in perspective allows us to uncover the limiting beliefs that often disguise themselves as self-sabotage.
