Play Episode Listen Later Jun 20, 2025 14:15

In this episode, I am talking about how sharing our stories can lead to deep healing. I reflect on my own journey of speaking out about my experiences, particularly around the challenges of dealing with teen substance abuse and the misconceptions I held about healing. I emphasize that many of us often feel the need to have everything perfectly aligned before we share our truths, but this mindset can block our healing process. I share a pivotal moment from my past when I realized that speaking about my struggles not only helped me feel less alone but also opened doors to healing I never anticipated. Play Episode Listen Later Jun 16, 2025 16:11

In this episode, I want to share the journey of writing a book. It's a dream for many, with 81% of people expressing a desire to write a book, yet fewer than 1% actually follow through and publish one. I want to challenge you to consider whether you want to be part of the 99% who never take that leap or join the less than 1% who do. Throughout the episode, I explore the common fears and beliefs that hold aspiring authors back. Many struggle with feelings of inadequacy, fearing that their stories aren't significant enough or that they might hurt others. I emphasize that these fears often stem from a subconscious desire for safety and protection from exposure. It's crucial to recognize that the intent behind these fears is to keep you safe, but they can also prevent you from sharing your truth and helping others. In this episode, I am sharing the concept of alignment and how it can sometimes feel boring or uncomfortable, especially if you're used to living in chaos. We are conditioned to gravitate towards what feels familiar, even if it's not what we truly want. Our subconscious minds often choose chaos over peace because it's what we know. I emphasize that if you find yourself repeatedly returning to unhealthy relationships or stressful situations, it's likely because they feel normal to you. Imagine what it would feel like to train and reprogram your subconscious mind to become familiar with peace instead of chaos.  You can create a whole new baseline. In this episode, I am sharing my take on the concept of "Let Them," inspired by Mel Robbins' teachings. I share my own journey and the lessons I've learned about control, choice, and the importance of allowing others to navigate their paths. I begin by reflecting on my experience attending a Mel Robbins event, where her powerful message resonated with me, despite my initial discomfort. I discuss how the idea of "Let Them" felt foreign to me as a parent who has faced the challenges of teen substance abuse. For me, the concept was not just about relinquishing control over trivial matters like prom; it was a matter of survival. I had to learn to let my children make their own choices, even when those choices were difficult for me to understand.  HIGHLIGHTS 00:00:23 - Inspiration from Mel Robbins 00:01:05 - The Concept of "Let Them" 00:02:31 - Survival Through Letting Go 00:03:37 - Lessons from Parenting Challenges 00:04:52 - The Illusion of Control 00:06:37 - The Power of Releasing Control 00:08:11 - Personal Responsibility and Choices 00:09:57 - Finding Safety Within 00:11:02 - Living at Cause 00:12:47 - Reclaiming Personal Power Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Download “You Are Supported” Hypnosis and Subliminal Bundle HERE  Join the next cohort of OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification (kick-off in March 2025) HERE Learn more about changing the Stories We Tell Ourselves Digital Program HERE. In this episode, I share the power of metaphors and how they can help us understand our subconscious mind. I share a compelling metaphor involving two electrical outlets, one representing our past and the other our future. On the left side, we have the "old plug," connected to our daily thoughts, old patterns, and negative beliefs—essentially everything that has shaped who we are up to this point. This side is familiar and feels safe, but it often keeps us in a negative cycle. On the right side, we have the "new plug," which symbolizes our future potential, aspirations, and the identity we are striving to become. This outlet is connected to our visions and the possibilities that lie ahead. Every thought we have throughout the day is like a choice to plug into one of these outlets. The challenge is becoming aware of which plug we are connecting to and consciously choosing the one that aligns with our desired future. In this episode, I share the concept of becoming the version of ourselves that can hold our dreams before we chase them. Our nervous systems must feel safe and regulated to pursue our goals effectively. If we rush into chasing what we want without first anchoring into our identity, we risk operating from a place of lack rather than power. I share my journey of deciding to publish "Unreserved," highlighting the month I took to reflect on whether I was ready for such a significant commitment. This pause allowed me to assess my beliefs, emotional state, and the blocks that could hinder my ability to lead and sustain the energy of this project. If we chase our goals without addressing our internal barriers, we may experience burnout, self-sabotage, and the inability to sustain the results we are constructing and creating. After the exhilarating experience of the unreserved book launch party, which involved coordinating with 24 different authors and connecting with women from around the globe, I reflect on the personal growth from such expansive experiences. I emphasize that identity work is not a one-time breakthrough but rather a continuous process of chipping away at the concrete walls of limiting beliefs we have built over the years, if not decades. I share a powerful metaphor: just as you cannot smash through a thick concrete wall in one swing, you must chip away at it gradually. In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on the difference between reacting and responding and how this is connected to a lack or abundance mindset. As we navigate through life's challenges, especially when we feel overwhelmed, it's easy to slip into a reactive mode. Our reactions, which often stem from a place of lack and frustration, continues to reinforce the reality we are living in, and how, by reacting, we may inadvertently be fighting for our limitations. In this episode, I share thoughts on perception and how our brains filter the overwhelming amount of information we encounter daily. I start by expressing my gratitude to listeners for their support and shares, emphasizing the importance of being open to new perspectives and solutions that may be hidden from our view. I introduce the idea that we are not seeing reality as it truly is; instead, we only perceive what we are programmed to look for. With our brains processing 11 million bits of information every second, our conscious minds can only handle about 40 to 50 bits at a time. This means that what we consciously perceive is merely a fraction—0.0004%—of the reality around us. I explain how our brains delete, distort, and generalize information based on our beliefs and focus, which can significantly limit our understanding of the wrld. In this episode, I am connecting with Tesa Arcilla. Tesa has never taken the conventional route—personally or professionally. A journalist by training and driven by an insatiable curiosity, she has lived and worked across multiple continents, carving out a career that defies easy labels. From live broadcasts at NBC and CBC to moderating high-stakes political debates for Euronews and the European Commission, she has spent over 20 years asking the tough questions, navigating complex global issues, and making sense of the world's turning points. But beyond the newsrooms and international assignments, Tesa's journey has been defined by bold choices—moving across the world for love, walking away from established career paths, and constantly reinventing herself. She understands what it means to take a leap into the unknown, to bet on yourself even when the path isn't clear, and to thrive outside the traditional mould. Now, she helps others do the same—own their voice, build influence with authenticity, and turn their expertise into impact—without the ‘cringe' of self-promotion. As the host of Choices & Chances, she dives into the defining decisions that shape lives and careers, helping others embrace uncertainty, make bold moves, and step fully into their potential. In this episode, I ask the question, "Can you hold a vision when you can't see it yet?" I challenge the notion that we must wait for tangible evidence, like a certain bank balance or a fully booked calendar, before we can embody the person capable of achieving our dreams. We must first become that person internally to sustain the success we desire. Drawing from my personal experience, I recount my journey from being a kinesiologist for 27 years to embracing my calling as a coach. In 2019, I felt an unshakeable intuition that I would transition into coaching, despite not having a clear plan or business. Through continuous challenges and roadblocks, I continued to write and trust that I was being guided toward something greater.  HIGHLIGHTS 00:01:05 - The Challenge of Holding a Vision 00:02:32 - Personal Story: Transitioning Careers 00:03:36 - Identity Shift During Uncertainty 00:05:09 - The Role of Identity in Achieving Goals 00:06:34 - Repetition and Reprogramming 00:07:48 - Building a Bridge to Your Vision 00:09:14 - Self-Leadership and Vision 00:10:39 - Visualizing Your Future Self 00:12:07 - Celebrating Growth and Progress 00:13:43 - Upcoming Events and Community 00:14:15 - Encouragement to Pursue Goals Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Download “You Are Supported” Hypnosis and Subliminal Bundle HERE  Join the next cohort of OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification (kick-off in March 2025) HERE Learn more about changing the Stories We Tell Ourselves Digital Program HERE. In this episode, I am sharing about the unexpected ways in which our desires manifest. I want to keep it real and share my insights on how asking the universe for something big often leads to challenges and discomfort rather than immediate fulfillment. I begin by discussing the concept of expansion and contraction, emphasizing that when we seek growth, whether it's in our personal lives, careers, or finances, we often encounter obstacles that feel like setbacks. I share my own journey of asking for expansion this year, only to face a series of personal and professional challenges that left me feeling like I was experiencing the opposite of what I desired. In one example, I share how my husband's injury during a crucial competition I illustrate how life can throw us curveballs just when we think we're on the right path. I reflect on the emotional turmoil that comes with these experiences and how they serve as lessons to help us grow into the versions of ourselves that can truly hold our dreams. In this episode, I share some thoughts on how self-sabotage is not merely a sign of weakness or failure, but rather a form of self-protection driven by our subconscious mind. When we find ourselves on the brink of progress, it's common to experience a pullback into old patterns. I want to help you understand why this happens. I challenge the traditional narrative around self-sabotage by encouraging listeners to ask more empowering questions. Instead of questioning, "Why am I doing this?"—which can lead to feelings of shame—I suggest we ask, "What is my subconscious trying to tell me?" This shift in perspective allows us to uncover the limiting beliefs that often disguise themselves as self-sabotage. In this episode, I am sharing the message of being "cracked open" by life's challenges and how these moments can lead to personal growth and clarity. I begin by sharing a powerful quote from Rebecca Campbell's book, "Light is the New Black," which emphasizes the importance of embracing the things that break us down, as they ultimately allow the light to shine through. This is a personal episode as I share the story of my husband, Brad, a Master's Olympic lifter, who faced a serious injury during a competition. As he set national records, he suffered a painful elbow injury that required immediate medical attention. This situation forced us to navigate a whirlwind of emotions and decisions, all while managing the urgency of his condition and the pressures of our personal and professional lives. Throughout the episode, I reflect on the overwhelming nature of life when it feels like everything is happening at once. I discuss how, in these moments, we often find ourselves stuck in overthinking and fear, but I emphasize the importance of trusting our bodies and instincts to guide us through tough decisions. I share how I learned to pause, breathe, and listen to my inner voice, which often knows the answers we seek, even when our minds are racing. In this episode, I share my thoughts on the concept of readiness and how it is a lie.   I challenge the notion that we must feel 100% ready before starting new ventures. Drawing from personal experiences, I emphasize that readiness often results from taking the leap, not a prerequisite. I encourage listeners to reflect on their own lives and consider times when they felt prepared entirely—chances are, those moments are few and far between. I also touch on the significance of identity work, urging listeners to envision the person they aspire to be and to act as if they are already that person. By shifting our mindset and embodying the qualities of our future selves, we can break free from the constraints of waiting for readiness. I encourage listeners to confront these thoughts and reframe them, asking themselves whether they are valid. Doing so can interrupt the negative loops that keep us from reaching our full potential. Things can become easier, but they never truly become easy. As we grow, we often confront subconscious beliefs that can hinder our progress. I candidly share my experiences of feeling nervous and self-doubting as I expand my offerings, particularly with the launch of my Master Practitioner program in NLP. This new venture felt daunting, and I found myself fighting with old narratives about success and worthiness, and the last year has been feeling all the discomfort of growth, even though it doesn't mean that I can't do it, it is just new and expansive and your nervous system has to learn how to hold your new growth.   HIGHLIGHTS 00:01:00 - The Misconception of Growth 00:02:00 - Embracing New Responsibilities 00:03:00 - Confronting Subconscious Beliefs 00:04:00 - The Importance of Data 00:05:00 - Self-Sabotage Awareness 00:06:00 - Transformational Breakthroughs 00:07:00 - Recognizing Evidence of Success 00:08:00 - Stacking Wins 00:09:00 - Protecting Your Subconscious 00:10:00 - Empowerment Through Rewiring 00:11:00 - Building a Better Relationship with Stories Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Download “You Are Supported” Hypnosis and Subliminal Bundle HERE  Join the next cohort of OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification (kick-off in March 2025) HERE Learn more about changing the Stories We Tell Ourselves Digital Program HERE. In this episode, I share some stats about the sheer volume of daily thoughts—between 60,000 and 80,000, with a staggering 80-90% being repetitive and predominantly negative. This repetition can create thick neural pathways in our brains, reinforcing doubts, fears and limiting beliefs. I use a vivid analogy comparing our thoughts to a hairdryer cord, illustrating how negative thoughts can become strong and durable while positive thoughts often remain fragile and underdeveloped. Throughout the episode, I encourage listeners to recognize the power of their language and internal dialogue. I challenge them to identify the negative beliefs they may be reinforcing and to consciously work on building new, empowering thoughts. I emphasize that change is possible and that we can create new neural pathways through repetition and intention.  The metaphor of a string vs a hairdryer cord landed visually, and I knew I wanted to share it! 842 | Judgment Is a Mirror — And NLP Holds the Key to Compassion

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 14, 2025 22:26

In this episode, I share the idea that judgment acts as a mirror, reflecting our internal beliefs and feelings. We all have our own internal representation of the world, and each person perceives the world through a unique lens shaped by experiences, values, and emotions. This leads to the realization that trying to change someone else's perspective can be a waste of energy, as they are likely operating from their own internal map of the world.  The judgments we fear from others often stem from our self-judgment. Judgment can trigger unresolved beliefs within us, and I emphasize the importance of self-compassion and forgiveness in overcoming these feelings. Reframing our triggers and approaching others with curiosity instead of criticism can foster empathy and understanding. Play Episode Listen Later Apr 11, 2025 13:25

In this episode, I'm sharing the importance of challenging our thoughts and the profound impact they can have on our lives. We are not our thoughts; we are human beings experiencing thoughts. With an astonishing 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts racing through our minds each day—most of which are negative and repetitive—it's crucial to recognize that these thoughts are not facts. They are merely programming we have internalized over the years, often without even realizing it. Throughout the episode, I challenge listeners to confront their inner dialogue. I ask, "Why do we accept our thoughts as truth?" Many of us would never allow others to speak to us how we often speak. I share a personal anecdote about a limiting belief I held for years, which was not even my own, illustrating how easily we can adopt narratives that do not serve us. In today's episode, I reflect on recent experiences with clients who have faced toxic coaching situations in the past, emphasizing that coaching should not simply provide answers or only focus on the client's goals, instead can they help clients uncover the underlying barriers that prevent them from reaching their goals. I share my belief that strategy constitutes only 5% of the equation, while subconscious work—addressing limiting beliefs and emotional blocks—makes up the remaining 95%. Throughout the episode, I stress the significance of getting to the root of why individuals feel stuck or engage in self-sabotage. So many clients are unaware of the deeper reasons behind their behaviors, which are often buried in their subconscious. By employing techniques such as FLIP The Script Techniques and asking subconscious questions, we can uncover these hidden beliefs and reframe them to create lasting change. During a recent live podcast recording, we discussed limiting beliefs and how they can hold us back. I shared my belief that we should focus on building a relationship with them rather than trying to eliminate these beliefs. Our subconscious mind's primary job is to keep us safe, and often, it clings to outdated beliefs that no longer serve us. I likened this to cleaning out a cluttered closet filled with clothes we no longer wear—much like our minds can be filled with old thoughts and stories that don't represent who we are today. As we approach spring, I encouraged listeners to reflect on their "closets"—the beliefs and thoughts that take up mental space but no longer fit who they are. I begin by emphasizing that the narrative we create in our minds is the one that ultimately defines our lives. Our subconscious mind is highly responsive to these stories, and if we continuously tell ourselves that we are afraid or incapable, we reinforce those beliefs, leading to a cycle of negativity. I share insights inspired by Erwin McManus, particularly his idea that our fears are intertwined with our nightmares, while our possibilities are linked to our dreams. In this episode, I share the topic of emotional regulation and its massiveimpact on entrepreneurship. As I reflect on the five-year anniversary of my transition from a 27-year career to the online business world, I share insights that I wish I had learned much earlier in my journey. Emotional regulation, along with nervous system regulation and subconscious reprogramming, is not just beneficial but essential for sustainable business growth. There's a huge difference between reacting and responding to situations. I emphasize that reacting is often an impulsive outburst driven by external stimuli, while responding involves a conscious choice that conserves energy and establishes boundaries. Mastering emotional regulation can lead to less stress, more ease, and a greater impact in our businesses, and is something I wish I had been open to learning earlier in my entrepreneurial journey.  HIGHLIGHTS 00:00:00 - Introduction to Emotional Regulation in Business 00:01:00 - The Importance of Emotional Regulation 00:02:30 - Reacting vs. Responding 00:04:00 - The Challenge of Negative Emotions 00:05:30 - Emotional Regulation as the Missing Link 00:07:00 - The Impact of Emotional Reactivity on Business 00:08:30 - NLP and Emotional Regulation 00:10:00 - Techniques for Interrupting Negative Patterns 00:11:30 - Building Emotional Stability for Business Success 00:13:00 - The Role of Self-Trust and Resilience 00:14:30 - Homework: Applying Emotional Regulation Techniques 00:15:00 - Conclusion and Encouragement Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Download “You Are Supported” Hypnosis and Subliminal Bundle HERE  Join the next cohort of OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification (kick-off in March 2025) HERE Learn more about changing the Stories We Tell Ourselves Digital Program HERE. In this episode, I dive into a powerful question: "Can you feel it before you have it?" This inquiry transcends the realm of wealth and touches on various aspects of our lives, including confidence and abundance. Drawing from my personal experiences, I share a moment from a recent panel discussion on wealth, where I confronted my own feelings of lack amidst a challenging time, including the loss of my mother-in-law. I reflect on how wealth is often perceived solely in terms of money, yet I emphasize that true wealth encompasses much more. I challenge the audience to consider whether they can feel wealth even when their bank accounts don't reflect it or when they face rejection and negativity. By anchoring ourselves in the feelings of wealth and abundance, we can train our brains to recognize and accept these emotions as part of our reality, even before they manifest in our lives. I share practical strategies for shifting our mindset from lack to abundance, including the practice of "stacking the wins" and anchoring positive feelings in our bodies. In this episode, I had the honour of speaking with Brianna, a 2x Paralympian, a remarkable athlete who has made history as the first Canadian to do both the canoe and kayak events at the Paralympic games.  She was the first to receive a medal in para-canoe and the flag bearer at the closing ceremonies in London in 2024. Brianna is a 12xs world medalist between 3 parasports. Brianna shares her journey from being an able-bodied athlete in various sports to navigating the challenges of life after a catastrophic accident that left her with a brain injury and physical disabilities. Brianna reflects on her recent experience at the Paralympics in Paris, where she earned a silver medal and was honoured to be a flag bearer for Canada. This recognition, she explains, was a culmination of her hard work and advocacy for people with disabilities, which she holds close to her heart. Throughout our conversation, Brianna shares her personal story of resilience, detailing the traumatic accident that changed her life ten years ago. She recounts the moments in the hospital, the struggle with depression, and the pivotal decision to embrace parasport as a means of reclaiming her identity and purpose. Her journey into parasport was sparked by watching wheelchair rugby players, which inspired her to take the leap and join a community that celebrates abilities rather than disabilities. Brianna emphasizes the significance of perspective and gratitude. She encourages listeners to focus on what they have rather than what they've lost, sharing her personal mottos that guide her through tough times. Her story is a testament to the power of the human spirit, resilience, and the importance of community support. In this episode, I share the concept of "anchors," a powerful technique from Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). Have you ever tried to push through resistance only to feel disconnected and unnatural? This struggle often stems from limiting beliefs and ingrained strategies that dictate our actions. Just like baking a cake requires a specific order of operations, so does our approach to personal growth. Anchoring allows us to evoke and harness positive emotions—such as confidence, gratitude, and joy—by consciously recalling specific experiences. However, we often anchor negative emotions without realizing it, creating patterns that can hinder our progress. For instance, a simple phone call about finances can trigger a visceral response, anchoring feelings of stress and overwhelm. In the episode, I share this client's transformation using Chaining Anchors. Not only did she feel lighter and more confident, but she also began to show up differently in her business, embracing opportunities she previously shied away from. In this episode, I share the concept of identity and its critical role in facilitating lasting change, particularly through the lens of neurolinguistic programming (NLP). I share insights from my experiences with clients in various coaching settings, emphasizing that true transformation occurs at the identity level.  I talk about the destruction before creation, explaining that letting go of old patterns, relationships, and beliefs is essential for making space for new growth. I encourage listeners to reframe their perspectives on loss, viewing it as a sign of alignment rather than defeat. By asking ourselves what is being made space for, we can embrace the chaos and discomfort as part of the process of becoming who we are meant to be. This quote summarizes it perfectly… “You won't find your true self by holding onto who you were. In this episode, I am sharing the myth that you need someone to believe in order to have success in yourself. I challenge the notion that we need this external belief to move forward in our lives and businesses. Instead, I emphasize the importance of cultivating our own belief in ourselves, as this internal conviction is what truly drives change and success. Throughout the episode, I introduce the idea that our calling is uniquely ours—it's not a conference call where everyone else is expected to cheer us on. I encourage listeners to consider what it would feel like to believe in themselves as if everyone else did. This self-belief is foundational; without it, our actions and energy will reflect doubt, making it difficult for others to see our potential.
