What if the reason guests return year after year has very little to do with the room… and everything to do with how you make them feel?In this episode of the Airbnb Superhost Podcast, I share the fascinating psychology behind why the same festival guests keep returning to stay with me every May Bank Holiday — and why many of them now feel more like a temporary tribe than Airbnb guests. From fire pits and BBQs to WhatsApp groups and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, this episode explores how emotional connection, belonging and shared experiences create guest loyalty that goes far beyond accommodation.I explain: Why guests rarely remember where they slept — but always remember how they felt How arranging chairs in a circle completely changes social dynamics Why fire pits are psychologically powerful How shared food creates shared time, trust and memories The hidden relationship between rapport, time and trust Why some guests now book almost a year in advance How one guest from Italy nearly agreed to sleep under my conservatory table just to stay part of the group! The surprising moment I discovered my guests had formed their own WhatsApp community This episode is really about engineered belonging.Because when guests bond with each other — not just with you — something remarkable happens: they stop shopping around.Superhost Secret“Don't just host the stay — host the relationships. That's not only between you and the guest, but also between the other guests staying with you at the same time.”In this episode: Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and hospitality psychology Creating emotional experiences through hosting Why “fed people stay longer” Designing spaces that encourage connection How traditions and rituals create repeat bookings Building trust through rapport × time Memorable Quote from the Episode“The room gets the guests through the door. The feeling gets them back next year.”If you're interested in learning how to turn your own home into an income-generating Airbnb business, I regularly run live webinars where I share ten years of hosting experience, systems and strategies that helped me become a Superhost hosting over 18,000 guest nights. You can register your interest using the webinar link below. And if you enjoyed this episode, follow me on Instagram: @SuperhostNeilTill next time — may your rooms be booked, your reviews 5-star and your guests feel like they belong. The May Bank Holiday weekend brought a new burst of life to Miltown Malbay, as a brand-new festival celebrating traditional Irish music made its debut. Led by renowned musician Joanie Madden, the May Day Festival has already been hailed as a major success—giving local businesses a welcome boost and earning comparisons to a “Mini Willie Clancy.” With music, dancing, workshops and sessions filling the town, there's already talk of this becoming a major annual event in West Clare. On Thursday's Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by Joanie Madden herself, and Mickey Wilson of Friels, to look back on a very special weekend. Photo (c) Visit Clare
What a dramatic May Bank Holiday in the League of Ireland. We saw our first managerial casualty as Jon Daly finally fell by the wayside at Waterford, but who wants the job as Tony Soprano once said? At the top, Rovers are back in control, but find out why Stephen Bradley was unhappy on two fronts this weekend. Meanwhile, in the First Division, the Usher out brigade are back in full swing following a shocking weekend for Cork City. Surely they can't blow promotion, can they? The Cork hurlers two from two to start the round robin series for the first time since its inception in 2018 and the footballers into a first Munster final in five years... a good weekend's work. The Echo Sport Podcast crew break down the action from Thurles and SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh and access the state of play with time to take a breath before the action resumes after the May Bank Holiday. Now in its fourth season, every week Éamonn Murphy is joined by The Echo team, including Barry O'Mahony, Denis Hurley, Rory Noonan, John Horgan and more to discuss all the latest Cork GAA news on and off the field. On the hurling front, Cork emptied the tank to pull off a victory against Limerick, who, despite losing Aaron Gillane to a training-ground injury and Cian Lynch to a second-half red card, came very close to winning on Leeside. For the hosts, it's now 11 games in league and championship without defeat since two years ago when going under to Clare left them on the brink. It's been an incredible run, as Man of the Match and captain Darragh Fitzgibbon told RTE: "It's just unbelievable here, these are the best days of our lives.”Now look we all know it's an All-Ireland we crave but that shouldn't take from the effort this group of players are putting in to try and end the famine. They had a ropey start on Sunday and didn't manage the last quarter as effectively as we'd have liked with an extra man but Limerick haven't hoovered up 15 major trophies in nine years for nothing. They remain a phenomenal outfit but Cork are in an extremely strong position to make it into the All-Ireland series with plenty to work on as well. Injuries to Ciarán Joyce and Rob Downey are a concern, the puck-outs remain a work in progress and some of the younger guns are still learning. But there are no shortage of positives either, with the goal threat to the fore once more and huge leadership being shown by the more experienced hurlers. On the football front, Cork got going after a sluggish opening half at sun-sorched Semple Stadium before powering to a 15-point victory over Tipp. Being able to call on Ruairí Deane, Colm O'Callaghan and Brian Hurley from the bench highlighted the gulf in class between the sides but Cork are as well set as they've been in a while to rattle Kerry in Killarney.Getting a first win in Fitzgerald Stadium in 31 years will be another sceál of course but there's big interest in the game and John Cleary's charges deserve massive support. Look what difference it makes to the hurlers... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

It’s going to be a very busy bank holiday weekend in Killarney with the Rally of the Lakes and the Munster football final among the events being held. Jerry spoke to Inspector Gary Carroll who is in charge of roads policing in the county.
Petersfield Rugby Pub Sevens was a tradition which started back in 1995. This was all thanks to the efforts of Hugh Afleck Graves and the senior captains of the time. The landscape has very much changed since those early days, but still as popular as ever. This year there are twenty teams that have entered for Sunday’s tournament, ready to do battle. We hear from Club Captain, Harley Orr.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The event has raised thousands for local causes and supported projects like the club's hurling wall, walking track, and upcoming astroturf pitch. A highlight for both of us: a wonderful long May Bank Holiday weekend enjoying the wealth of music, tradition and fun that the Sweeps Festival brings to Rochester every year, with morris dancing ‘sides' descending to perform all along the High Street and up in the Castle Grounds.Around all that centuries-old tradition there's also a booming world music/folk/roots festival in venues across Rochester. This year we loved the French Celtic energy of Sur Les Docks and local legends the Singing Loins at the Rising Sun, as well as the Balkan gypsy folk of Balamuc, and Staggered Ray (featuring Chris Weller and Rob Shepherd from our pod jingle). The Sweeps Festival was part of Rochester life for centuries - celebrated by Charles Dickens - until common sense and health & safety stopped chimney sweeps sending young boys up chimneys… In the early 1980s it was Gordon Newton who began the renaissance of the Festival and has overseen it grow and grow to become a central plank of Rochester culture and music. Gordon tells us the whole story, and throws in a bit of melodeon playing to boot.So join us out on the streets of Rochester, chatting to musicians and Morris dancers to capture the flavour of the whole event. In this episode, Niall covers the May Bank Holiday protest, asking participants why they are attending and what their concerns are.The protest comes in response to the emergence of a new migrant "tent city" along the banks of the Grand Canal in Dublin. Despite government assurances that such encampments would not be tolerated, the number of tents has risen, sparking frustration and calls for action. While the protest is primarily focused on the immigration crisis, many participants are also protesting against broader government failures, including housing, healthcare, and the cost of living. Some see the protest as an opportunity to demand better solutions and hold political leaders accountable. On the other hand, there are counter-protests organized by groups who believe that the national protest is primarily about immigration and label it as a far-right demonstration.Niall opens up the lines to callers to discuss their reasons for attending the protest or their concerns if they are not participating. Those involved in the counter-protest are also invited to share their perspective. Some callers express their solidarity with those affected by the immigration crisis and emphasize the need to demand better solutions from the government. They highlight that the protest is not just about immigration but also about holding leaders accountable for failures in housing, healthcare, and the cost of living. The protest highlights the public's concerns regarding the immigration crisis and broader issues of government accountability. It's a significant moment for citizens to voice their frustrations and demand meaningful change.

Clare Gardaí are advising people to take "collective responsibility" for their friend group as they socialise over the weekend. The May Bank Holiday period is typically associated with a spike in roads offences, with 188 arrests having been made over this weekend last year for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. 900 on-the-spot fixed charge penalty notices for speeding were also issued during this period. Head of the Roads Policing Unit in the Clare-Tipperary Garda Division Superintendent Eddie Golden says planning in advance is of paramount importance ahead of nights-out.
Kate Varley on what to look forward to this long May Bank Holiday weekend
Clare's roads policing superintendent is urging people to take control of their own safety on the roads this Bank Holiday weekend. Seven road deaths have taken place over the May Bank Holiday period in the last five years, including one last year and four in 2022. Gardaí have this week announced the locations of nine static speed safety cameras due to be operational by the end of the year on national roads in Limerick, Cork, Waterford, Galway, Dublin, Wicklow, Donegal, Carlow and Mayo. Head of the Roads Policing Unit in the Clare-Tipperary Garda Division Superintendent Eddie Golden has been telling Clare FM's Seán Lyons it's up to passengers in cars as well as drivers to encourage good practice on the roads.
The Big River Watch is back this weekend! Starting today, the public are invited to join the only UK and Ireland-wide citizen science survey of river health which attracted more than 5,000 participants in September 2023. Joining in is easy with our free, easy-to-use app. The results will be made available on an interactive dashboard and will help drive action to improve rivers both on-the-ground and via campaigns and advocacy. How you can help in the Big River Watch Emma Brisdion, Marketing Campaigns Lead at The Rivers Trust, said: "Healthy rivers are essential for our wellbeing and for our wildlife. But rivers in the UK and Ireland have been allowed to get into a desperate state, and there are many people who care immensely about them and want to help. The Big River Watch invites communities to get involved. The simple survey is all about using that connection to rivers to record the good, the bad, and the ugly so we can understand our blue spaces better and make informed decisions about how to revive them." Tessa Wardley, Director of Communication & Advocacy at The Rivers Trust, said: "With the state of our rivers hitting the headlines time and again this year, the Big River Watch is the perfect way for people to get involved and take action for their local river. Having a large set of data from one weekend will help our experts to understand what's going on in our rivers, and what needs to be done to make them cleaner, healthier, and part of a thriving wider environment. "In September 2023, 60% of Big River Watch participants were new to citizen science, which shows just how important this tool is to help everyone get involved and showing they care about rivers. As well as learning where pollution and wildlife are spotted, we also want to know how spending time near rivers affects people's wellbeing, so I'd encourage anyone and everyone to spend some time by their river and make their voice heard." The Big River Watch is open to all, with no experience or training in citizen science required. All people need to do is download the free Big River Watch app, spend 15 minutes by their local river and answer questions as prompted. We want to build a complete picture of river health, and topics covered include the plants and wildlife people can see, as well as visible signs of pollution or observations on flow levels. The Rivers Trust is the umbrella body for the Rivers Trust network, providing support with fundraising, advocacy and knowledge-sharing. Through our network of over 60 local Trusts in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and with over 350 dedicated specialists including over 60 farm advisers giving confidential expert advice, we work in partnership at a catchment scale to make our shared vision of wild, healthy, natural rivers, valued by all a reality. Shareable assets including high-res images can be found in this communications pack. Results and insights from the first iteration of the Big River Watch are published here. Data from the first iteration of the Big River Watch shows revealed that 73% of people thought their river looked healthy, whilst The Rivers Trust's recent State of Our Rivers Report 2024 showed that no stretch of river in England or Northern Ireland is in good overall health, with other nations of the UK and Ireland not performing much better. This apparent disparity points to the complexity of assessing river health, as well as the need for more comprehensive monitoring to be done and made accessible to the public to aid their understanding. Background information The Big River Watch has been developed by The Rivers Trust and other partner organisations within CaSTCo (a project creating a national framework for improving river health data, with citizen scientists at the heart). Big River Watch is an important tool to support CaSTCo in introducing new and diverse audiences to river science and to encourage accessible engagement and diverse recruitment of volun...

Demand for parking at Dublin Airport has soared ahead of the May Bank Holiday weekend. Spaces are now at a very limited capacity ahead of a surge in travel. Alistair is clipping Monty's claws as he and Robert agree what an asset Denise is to the vet's practice. They chat about Sunday's cricket win over Darrington and Linda's worry that she might not get enough volunteers to prepare the teas for the T20 match during May Bank Holiday weekend. Jim arrives with Alistair's forgotten packed lunch. They agree to meet for a drink later at The Bull. Robert remarks how happy Alistair seems these days and says he might adopt a similar approach to working with Lynda. Instead of getting annoyed, he's going to focus on him and Lynda being a team. Later at The Bull, Jim offers to help Robert with his ancient mystery puzzle and they agree to make a night of it. Alistair joins them and, while Robert is at the bar, Jim says he will be spending the night at Ambridge Hall and Alistair should take the opportunity to spend some time alone with Denise. George is not happy about Eddie's sign advertising Bartleby The Talking Horse. Eddie thinks they're on to a financial winner if they charge people to visit and take pictures with the pony. Linda arrives for a chat - with Bartleby (the cause celebre) – prompting an indignant protest from George that Bartleby talks about people, not to them. They risk damaging his brand. Eddie sharply points to George that were it not for his idea there would be no brand. George sulkily posts Bartleby and Linda's gossipy video about a dancing vet but soon changes his tune when it starts racking up thousands of views.
