Today on Salt Lake Dirt I speak with actress Grace Truly. Grace appears in the new film Book Club: The Next Chapter (Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen). Grace has appeared in several short films and has also appeared in Downton Abbey: A New Era. I had an amazing time talking with Grace about Book Club as well as her interests in vintage clothing, sewing, photography, and classic film. Grace is definitely someone to keep an eye out for. I can't wait to see more of her work in the future! Thanks for listening. Downton Abbey: A New Era is actually milder that the show and film that preceded it, but the same concerns from the first two exist here. This week on The Treatment, Elvis sits down with music journalist Danyel Smith, whose newest book is “Shine Bright: A Very Personal History of Black Women in Pop.” Next, director Simon Curtis talks about his most recent film, currently on Peacock, “Downton Abbey: A New Era,” a continuation of the beloved TV series. And finally, “Late Night with Seth Meyers” host Seth Meyers tells us why a short story by George Saunders keeps his writing honest.
On the Overthinking It Podcast, we tackle “Downton Abbey: A New Era,” the latest entry in the Downton Cinematic Universe. Episode 730: Something is Happening While Nothing is Happening originally appeared on Overthinking It, the site subjecting the popular culture to a level of scrutiny it probably doesn't deserve. *A note from the Getting Curious team: We delivered this episode just as news broke about the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Heidi and Ellen talk about the movies Downton Abbey: A New Era; The Duke; and Puzzle. They also touch on the television series The Great and the final of This Is Us. They then take questions from Beth and Martha. Beth has had a very successful career as a teacher and earlier this year had decided to leave her job in order to stay home with her kids full time. She has since been asked to return part-time, which while tempting, is the opposite of what her gut is telling her. She wonders if she should listen to her heart or her mind. Martha has recently retired after teaching art for many years and raising 5 children, including a daughter with profound special needs. She just wants to be in her studio doing her own work, after years of taking care of others. She judges herself for pursuing this solo endeavor and seeks encouragement to pursue that path.

Following the success of the 2019 film "Downton Abbey," the cast returned for a sequel, penned once again by series creator Julian Fellowes, titled "Downton Abbey: A New Era," which was just released in theaters this weekend. It's a welcome return to a cast of characters we know and love so well by this point that any time we spend with them is truly a gift. Actors Laura Carmichael and Allen Leech see it that way as well, as they reprise their roles as Lady Edith and Tom Branson. Along with Fellowes, the two of them were kind enough to spend some time talking with us about returning to their characters, discussing what they're going through in this film and what lies ahead. It's raining “Men” … hallelujah? Katie Walsh joins Christy to try and work through Alex Garland's impeccably crafted, deeply disturbing thriller this week on Breakfast All Day. Alonso and Christy also review something a bit lighter: the sequel “Downton Abbey: A New Era.” In news, we discuss “Stranger Things” season 4 revelations, including the release of the first eight minutes of episode 1. Plus: Tom Cruise at Cannes, the trailer for the JLo documentary on Netflix (which Christy is in very, very briefly), “The Bob's Burgers Movie” premiere, “Heartstopper,” “Bros,” “She-Hulk” and more. And over at our Patreon, we recap episode 6 of “The Offer” on Paramount+. “The Godfather” will get made eventually, we just know it! Thanks as always for joining us.
For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Nicole Ackman and guests Maggie Lovitt from Wealth Of Geeks & Nathaniel Rogers from The Film Experience. We're heading back to Downton for "Downton Abbey: A New Era," starring Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Maggie Smith, Jim Carter, Imelda Staunton, Hugh Dancy, Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Haddock, Laura Carmichael, Dominic West, and a lot more! A sequel to the 2019 film, the story is split into two. One plot line follows characters traveling to the South of France for an inherited villa while the other characters back at the Downton estate work with a Hollywood crew who have chosen to shoot their film on location. What did we think of this story, how it pushed the characters forward, the performances, the future of Downton Abbey, and more? Click below to hear our thoughts and enjoy! Welcome to Downtonpalooza, as this week's guests on the Empire Podcast hail from either side of the camera on Downton Abbey: A New Era, the latest cinematic instalment of the ever-popular Downton Abbey franchise. First, Helen O'Hara chats to two of the movie's stars, Laura Carmichael and Tuppence Middleton, and then has a natter with the creator of the whole shebang, Julian Fellowes. Then, in the podbooth, Helen joins Chris Hewitt, Amon Warmann, and James Dyer to discuss the obscure non-MCU Marvel cameos they'd like to see in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness; talk about the week's movie news, including the reveal of the title for Avatar 2, Justin Lin's departure from Fast X, and more; and review Downton Abbey: A New Era, Casablanca Beats, and The Velvet Queen. And they ask the biggest question of all: just what has happened to Alan Cumming's chimpanzee? Enjoy.
Set at the end of the roaring twenties, but with the shadow of political divisions beginning to build in Europe, we'll explore the historical context that the characters of Downton find themselves in.
