The UK will stand in history as being the first in new world to spread the Gospel. This is an in-depth look at the 1904–1905 Welsh Revival which was the largest Christian revival in Wales during the 20th century. While by no means the best known of revivals, it was one of the most dramatic in terms of its effect on the population and triggered revivals in several other countries. "The movement kept the churches of Wales filled for many years to come, seats being placed in the aisles in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Swansea for twenty years or so, for example. Meanwhile, the Awakening swept the rest of Britain, Scandinavia, parts of Europe, North America, the mission fields of India and the Orient, Africa and Latin America." 2 Chronicles 7:14-16 King James Version (KJV) 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place. 1 Once more, O Lord, we pray, Put Thy strong armor on; Strike down the shield of Satan's pow'r; Let victory be won. Refrain: Once more, O Lord, once more Thy blessing we implore; In Thy great name let vict'ry sweep Thro' Zion's gates once more. 2 Lord Jesus, come today; Let souls before Thee bow; Be this Thine hour of triumph, Lord; Oh, send salvation now. The shooting in Poway, California, about 25 miles north of San Diego, coincides with a significant spike in hate crimes, including acts of anti-Semitism. Many are talking about this in the context of security, but there is much more to this than just security. The gunman, whom police identified as John Earnest, 19, wrote a manifesto echoing the same kind of white supremacist views as the shooters in the attacks in the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh in October – that was Robert Bowers, 46 – and on mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in March. Holden Matthews, 21, the son of a St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, sheriff's deputy, is on trial for the burning the St. Mary Baptist Church on March 26, Greater Union Baptist Church on April 2 and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on April 4. Dylann Roof, a 21-year-old white supremacist, murdered nine African Americans at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, in 2015.According to Bloomberg, Southwest Airlines first learned from Boeing after the deadly Lion Air crash in October that an alert warning pilots of a sensor malfunction linked to the disaster wasn't a standard feature on the 737 Max 8. "The world's largest 737 operator and its pilots had thought that the warning light worked on all Max jets, as it had on the previous generation of 737 aircraft, Southwest said Sunday. The revelation raises new questions about Boeing's best-selling jet as the company works to convince airlines and regulators that the Max will be safe once a software update is installed. Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg says the company is working to make sure the 737 Max is 'one of the safest airplanes ever to fly.'" Muilenburg says the company will now provide enhanced training for its airline customers' pilots. Additionally, Muilenburg said they "regret the impact" of the Ethiopian Airlines and Lion Air crashes and apologized to those who lost loved ones. The Ethiopian Airlines crash in March prompted a worldwide grounding of the 737 Max last month. As the number one airplane manufacturer, Muilenburg says Boeing has work to do to earn and re-earn the trust of its passengers around the world. Activists from across the US, including a group of tenants staying inside the building as the invited guests of the legitimate Venezuelan government, have been working around the clock to prevent the illegal seizure of the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington, DC, by opposition forces loyal to coup leader Juan Guaido. The Secret Service and other forces gave the occupants until this past Thursday, April 25, to vacate the premises. When they did not move on the occupants at that time, a lot of people thought the move would come this past Saturday. It did not. What's going on inside the embassy now? At least 704 people in the United States have been sickened this year by measles, a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening disease, according to a report released Monday morning by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It's the greatest number of cases in a single year in 25 years and represents a huge setback for public health after measles was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000. More than 500 of the people infected in 22 states were not vaccinated. Sixty-six people have been hospitalized, including 24 who had pneumonia. More than one-third of the cases are children younger than five. We talked about this last week, but with the numbers having been updated, we thought we would return to the issue.GUESTS:Dr. Shantella Sherman – Historical researcher, author of "In Search of Purity: Popular Eugenics & Racial Uplift Among New Negroes 1915-1935" and publisher of Acumen Magazine.Dr. Niva Lubin-Johnson – President of the National Medical Association.Kevin Zeese and Margaret Flowers – Editors of Popular Resistance.

Mueller Report Reveals Trump's Lies And Deception, But Not Collusion

It's Friday, so that means it's panel time. Attorney General William Barr on Thursday released a redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller's report, entitled “Report on The Investigation Into Russian interference in the 2016 election,” to Congress and the public. Before the report was released, Barr held a press conference or what appeared to be more of a spin session with reporters. "The report did not exonerate the president" – here I think it's important for people to understand the difference between the criminal side of this investigation and the impeachment side of this investigation. Mueller whiffed on a crucial legal question. The special counsel's report spans more than 400 pages. However, only 12 pages are dedicated to a critical question: Can the federal obstruction of justice statute apply to the president? Mueller treated this question—which is separate from whether a sitting president can be indicted—in an underwhelming fashion. He had simply concluded that the obstruction statute does not apply to the president. There is no reason to detail whether the president violated federal law, if the federal law does not apply to the president. The rector for Notre Dame Cathedral says a "computer glitch" may have been the cause of the massive fire on Monday. Rector Patrick Chauvet did not elaborate on the glitch but added that investigators may find out what happened in two or three months. On Thursday, investigators said they think an electrical short-circuit most likely caused the fire. French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to set out reconstruction ideas Friday while meeting with officials from the United Nations' cultural agency. The man accused of burning down three churches in Louisiana has been charged with hate crimes. St. Landry Parish District Attorney Earl Taylor filed the charges against Holden Matthews on Monday. Last week, Matthews, the 21-year-old son of a local sheriff's deputy, was arrested and charged with three counts of arson for setting fires at St. Mary Baptist Church on March 26, Greater Union Baptist Church on April 2 and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on April 4.US President Donald Trump does not support a bipartisan effort to halt US support for Saudi Arabia's war in Yemen. For the second time, Trump has issued a veto of a congressional invocation of the War Powers Resolution. In a statement, Trump called the measure "unnecessary" because the US military hasn't engaged in the Yemen war apart from some counterterrorism missions. However, Saudi Arabia gets support from the American military in the conflict. Trump wrote in the statement that the resolution would interfere with his ability to act as commander in chief. He also said it would impair the military's ability to conduct effective and efficient engagements. In Alex Rubinstein's MintPress News article "The Assange Poop Smear Was Concocted to Cover Ecuador's $4.2 B IMF Loan," he states, "Now that journalist Julian Assange is in the hands of Western authorities thanks to Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno, their media lapdogs are scraping from the bottom of the barrel to smear the WikiLeaks editor with increasingly absurd claims. While Assange is no stranger to smears, this set is particularly distasteful. It started with Ecuadorian Interior Minister Maria Paula Romo, who told reporters on the day of Assange's arrest that he was 'putting feces on the walls of the embassy and other behaviors of that nature' ... The poop smear serves an effective propaganda purpose: it deflects from the real scandal." We'll discuss the real scandal. War Powers Resolution Vetoed, Continuing US Support of Atrocities in Yemen

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 17, 2019 57:59

US President Donald Trump vetoed a resolution passed by Congress to end US military assistance in Saudi Arabia's war in Yemen. The veto — the second in Trump's presidency — was expected, and Congress lacks the votes to override it. But invoking the never-before-used War Powers Resolution was viewed as a milestone for lawmakers, who have shown a renewed willingness to assert their war-making authority after letting it atrophy for decades under presidents from both parties. Trump said in a statement, “This resolution is an unnecessary, dangerous attempt to weaken my constitutional authorities, endangering the lives of American citizens and brave service members, both today and in the future.” What does this mean going forward? After 23 months, 500 search warrants, 2,300 subpoenas and a string of indictments, the results of the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller will be made public on Thursday in a nearly 400-page report. What should we expect, and what does this mean going forward? Attorney General William Barr said last month in his report that the special counsel did not find that anyone associated with the Trump campaign worked with the Russian government to illegally influence the election. He also said there was insufficient evidence to say that Trump illegally obstructed justice. What about the Democrats' apparent shift of focus here? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was asked about the report, and her answer was that “people are concerned about their kitchen table issues.” What? Kitchen table issues? After three years of Russiagate non-stop, all of a sudden she wants to talk about kitchen table issues? I thought Russiagate was the existential threat to our democracy! And as soon as she said it, MSNBC immediately changed their tune. The man who stands accused of setting three African American churches on fire in the span of 10 days, St. Mary Baptist Church on March 26, Greater Union Baptist Church on April 2 and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on April 4, has not only been charged with arson, but is facing three hate-crime charges, too. St. Landry Parish District Attorney Earl Taylor filed the charges against Holden Matthews on Monday. For the fourth year in a row, the Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights organization that tracks hate groups, reports that hate and domestic extremism are rising in an unabated trend. The center found a 30 percent increase in US hate groups over the past four years and a 7 percent increase in hate groups in 2018 alone, according to the center's annual "Year in Hate and Extremism" report. The group designated 1,020 organizations as hate groups in 2018, the highest number in at least 20 years. What does this say about the rise of hate crimes in America?GUESTS:Elisabeth Myers — Editor-in-chief of Inside Arabia. Later that day, he was found guilty of that charge at the Westminster Magistrates' Court. Now the real battle ensues: will he be extradited to the US, bringing his seven-year stint in the embassy to a dramatic close? Assange entered the embassy June 19, 2012, to avoid extradition to Sweden over a sexual assault case that has since been dropped and remained there in exile for six years, nine months and 24 days, or 2,488 days from start to end. What's been going on in London around this issue? It was two days of questions for US Attorney General William Barr. With the Russia investigation complete, Barr said he was preparing to review “both the genesis and the conduct of intelligence activities directed at the Trump campaign,” including possible improper “spying” by American intelligence agencies. Is this really news, or is it more political theater? Should we be concerned that the FBI and or other intelligence agencies in this country opened an intelligence investigation into a US presidential candidate? With all votes counted, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's fifth election win is confirmed. After a full day of rechecking, Likud gained a seat to outscore Benny Gantz's Blue and White alliance, 36-35, United Torah Judaism lost a seat, and Netanyahu's path to a majority coalition is clear. Netanyahu was confirmed as the big winner of Israel's general elections on Thursday night, when the Central Elections Committee published the completed tallies of Tuesday's election, a full 60 hours after the polling stations closed. Israeli voters “have said no to peace and yes to the occupation,” Saeb Erekat, the chief Palestinian negotiator, said Tuesday night. Thanks to enthusiastic support from the Trump administration, Netanyahu has been emboldened to pursue right-wing policies — he now says that if he wins, he will annex the West Bank, home to around 2.5 million Palestinians. Gantz called this pledge “irresponsible.” While many observers brushed it off as campaign rhetoric, the Trump administration's unwavering support makes this a real possibility, believes Jake Walles, who served as US consul general in Jerusalem from 2005 to 2009 and is now a fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.Holden Matthews, the 21-year-old man accused of burning three historically black churches in Louisiana, was influenced by “black metal,” police say – a music genre sometimes tied to organized hate. Matthews engaged in a conversation about Varg Vikernes on Facebook. Vikernes is a musician who is linked intimately to National Socialist Black Metal (NSBM), a subgenre within black metal that is explicitly racist and fascist in nature. Vikernes, who is Norwegian and founded the band Burzum, burned down three historically significant churches in his homeland during the 1990s. He also murdered a guitarist for the black metal band Mayhem. From prison, Vikernes expressed views closely aligned with neo-Nazism, even though he objected to that term. Anders Breivik, the Norwegian far-right terrorist who murdered 77 people, including children, during a 2011 rampage, mailed Vikernes his manifesto before his arrest. In a 2012 blog post, Vikernes took issue with Breivik's methods and wrote that Breivik should kill himself, and argued there were more constructive ways to deal with “internationalists lead [sic] by their Jewish masters.” Matthews, the son of a Louisiana sheriff's deputy, is in St. Landry Parish jail. He's charged with three counts of simple arson of a religious building. The churches Matthews allegedly burned were the St. Mary Baptist Church in Port Barre, the Greater Union Baptist Church in Opelousas and the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Opelousas. The fires occurred on March 26, April 2 and April 4. It is unclear if Matthews allegedly chose the churches because of their connection to the black community.GUESTS:Lee Stranahan — Co-host of Fault Lines on Sputnik Radio. Jim Kavanagh — Political analyst and commentator and editor of The Polemicist.Caleb Maupin — Journalist and political analyst who focuses his coverage on US foreign policy and the global system of monopoly capitalism and imperialism.
