Bridget, Caitlin, and Hilda discuss part 1 of "Caged Wolf," book 1 in Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti's Darkmore Penitentiary series. That's right - they're back in the Twisted Sisters' world of Solaria, but this time with Rosalie Oscura as she tries to break out of the infamous fae prison. The Saturday Edition is back for the first time in 2024 with Charlotte Greenway to look ahead to some of the weekend action form Warwick, Kempton and Punchestown. First we hear from Nigel Twiston-Davies on a couple of his key runners Broadway Boy, Beauport and the veteran Good Boy Bobby. Taking on Broadway Bob in the novice chase at Warwick is Lucinda Russell's Apple Away and Lucinda discusses her mare's improvement since her debut over fences whilst she also looks ahead to her runner in the Lanzarote Hurdle. It's in the Lanzarote that Kerry Lee has the well fancied Nemean Lion and we hear about his chances as well as why he's been campaigned the way he has. Finally, in Ireland on Sunday Silent Approach takes on the boys in the Grade 3 Novice Chase and I talk to her owner, breeder and trainer Con O'Keefe to get the story behind this mare, who's clearly not straightforward!
In the next instalment of the Zodiac series we enter a tunnel underneath a great mountain where Hercules wrestles the Nemean Lion... Of course, then, we have entered the realm of Leo. We spend time with CG Jung and his Leo Sun and explore the concepts gifted to us from his life, particularly the field of individuation as it pertains to the Herculean task of becoming ones true self. It's an episode where we have full permission to explore through the lens of myth and fairytale - as these are the ways that Leo prefers to experience reality. The stories of Phaethon, Icarus, Narcissus and Cinderella are all a part of this one, each story giving us a different perspective on Leo and what it is to be children of the Sun.Music for this episode: Takuya Kuroda, Everybody Loves the SunshineCover Art: PETER PAUL RUBENS, HERCULES STRANGLING THE NEMEAN LION, C. 1620Martha, Melanie and Chris discussing Venus and Innana.Podcast Musician: Marlia CoeurPlease consider becoming a Patron to support the show!Go to OnTheSoulsTerms.com for more.
'I laugh in the face of danger!' said Simba. Lions have been admired and feared since the dawn of time, and the Nemean Lion represented in the constellation of Leo was the real Lion King. This month we explore the legends behind this fiery sign and ask ourself what is nature, and what is nurture? This month's mediation is a little unconventional and more of a mindfulness exercise involving an apple (or any other piece of seasonal fruit!) - so have it handy before you tune in.

The demi-god Hercules was regarded as a great hero for the people of Rome and Greece. He was known for performing various deeds that no mortal could. Hercules was an everyman who had bad days and even died due to another's trickery. These stories were entertaining, but they also told an important lesson to an audience: If bad things can happen to a hero, they have nothing to be ashamed of.The most famous of his activities was the 12 labours that Hercules was asked to perform by his cousin Eurystheus, who was the king of Mycenae and Tiryns. The first set of labours numbered only ten, but they eventually grew to twelve. To kill the Nemean Lion who was impervious to all weapons. To kill the monster known as the Hydra who had nine venomous heads and, when one was cut off, two more would grow in its place. To capture the Cerynitian Hind who was sacred to the goddess Artemis. To capture the Erymanthian Boar. Cleaning the Stables of Augeius in a day.To drive away the Stymphalian Birds. To bring back the Cretan Bull from Knossos. To bring back the Mares of Diomedes. To bring back Hippolyte's Girdle. To bring back the cattle of Geryon, king of Cadiz. To bring back the Golden Apples of Hesperides. To bring back Cerberus, the guard dog of the underworld.Read more at https://mythlok.com/hercules/
Heracles, also known as Hercules, is one of the most celebrated characters in Greek mythology. He was the son of Zeus and the goddess Hera, and he was regarded as a symbol of bravery and strength. Even today, people still use the word "Herculean" to refer to this mythological hero.He had many interesting stories to tell, as he appeared in hundreds of myths. Heracles was almost killed after his wife, Deianira, gave him a poisoned shirt, which caused him to experience severe pain. To end his suffering, he built a funeral pyre on Mount Oeta. He climbed on top of the pyre and waited for someone to pass by so it could be set alight. After his friend Poeas lit the fire, Heracles was then burned to death. He was then taken to Mount Olympus and became an immortal deity where he married the goddess Hebe.According to Greek mythology, Heracles was the strongest man that ever lived. He was depicted as a large and muscular man, and he could be identified by his various weapons, such as his bow, his club, and the skin of the Nemean Lion.Read more at https://mythlok.com/heracles/

In Greek mythology, the creature known as the chimera is a fire-breathing female monster that attacked Lycia and Caria. It was later killed by Bellerophon. Some western scholars of Chinese art, starting with Victor Segalen, use the word "chimera" generically to refer to winged leonine or mixed species quadrupeds, such as Bixie, Tianlu, Ky Lan and even Qilin. The most common description of the chimera comes from Homer's Illiad, in which the creature is said to have the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and tail of a snake. Despite being classified as a female, the lion's head has a mane which is typical of male lions. The Chimera's origins are highly disputed and its genealogy has never been formally agreed upon. According to Hesiod, the Chimera's mother was a certain ambiguous "she", which may refer to Echidna, in which case the father would presumably be Typhon, though possibly the Hydra or even Ceto was meant instead.Other accounts say that Chimera was the child of Typhoeus and Echidna and sibling of Cerberus and the Lernaean Hydra. There are several different genealogies—in one version, it mated with its brother, Orthrus, and mothered the Sphinx and the Nemean Lion.Read more at https://mythlok.com/chimera/
You know you're a good king when you have a giant bronze jar made specifically to hide in out of your own fear and cowardice! At least, that seemed to work for King Eurystheus as he sent Heracles out on his twelve famous labors. In this episode, we look at all twelve labors, including the Nemean Lion, the Lernaean Hydra, the Cretan Bull, the capture of Cerberus, and all nine others! We also discuss the bare minimum requirements to be a good hero.
Percy warns the group of the intentions of the General. The Nemean Lion pounces.
Echidna was the mother of monsters in Greek Mythology, and her children- including the Lernean Hydra, Nemean Lion, Cerberus, and fearsome Chimera- are all fair game for tonight's prompt! It's The Lotus' night off, but the rest of The Cru chat about J.R.R. Tolkien and attempt to write pieces inspired by his style and his work. One member doesn't care for Tolkien; the other two respond appropriately. From Hesiod's Theogony: "Men say that Typhaon [Typhoeus] the terrible, outrageous and lawless, was joined in love to her [Ekhidna (Echidna)], the maid with glancing eyes. So she conceived and brought forth fierce offspring; first she bare Orthos (Orthus) the hound of Geryones (Geryon), and then again she bare a second, a monster not to be overcome and that may not be described, Kerberos (Cerberus) who eats raw flesh, the brazen-voiced hound of Haides, fifty-headed, relentless and strong. And again she bore a third, the evil-minded Hydra of Lerna, whom the goddess, white-armed Hera nourished, being angry beyond measure with the mighty Herakles . . . She was the mother of Khimaira (Chimera) who breathed raging fire, a creature fearful, great, swift-footed and strong, who had three heads, one of a grim-eyed lion; in her hinderpart, a dragon; and in her middle, a goat, breathing forth a fearful blast of blazing fire. Her did Pegasos (Pegasus) and noble Bellerophontes slay."
In the ancient lands of the Middle East and the Mediterranean, these monsters took their place among some of the most dangerous creatures in history. Whether it be the sounds of beating wings or claws against metal, the effects of these beasts have rippled throughout history. From the infamous leonine mythologies to ancient immortalized artworks, their legacy is nowhere near over. Can you survive the catastrophe?

Put on your Nemean Lion pelts and grab your cudgels! We're talking about Hercules this week: twelve labors, two parts, and two bottles of wine! In this first half, we are talking Hercules’ family line, early years nabbing that sweet God milk from Hera, killing snakes and music teachers and earning that pelt and cudgel, and actually living a pretty happy life with his happy wife Megara. Then boom. Hera strikes and tragedy. One angry stop to talk to the Oracles and now Hercules has gotta do some labors for his cousin, Eurystheus. We predict, Lions, hydras, hinds, and boars, and oh my a whole mess of cow poop are in Herk the Jerk’s future. Drunk Mythology is a podcast created by Krista and Christian, recounting the feats and failures of world Mythology, with a few drinks along the way.
We're wrapping up the second season of The Simpsons! The season ends fairly strong with Three Men and a Comic Book - a throwback to when comic conventions were just a bunch of 10 year olds in a small room - and Blood Feud, which has that great bit where Homer tries to retrieve that letter, but doesn't know Mr Burns' first name. In this one we dig into Lisa's Richie-Rich/Casper the Friendly Ghost theory, prattle on about Hercules and the Nemean Lion a bunch, discuss the album Revolver a bunch, uh, again, and...actually, we talk about The Simpsons quite a bit on this one. Hopefully you came to this, our podcast about The Simpsons, to hear some discussion about said show. We've also made a guest appearance this week! A Lion and a Man chanced to travel in company through the forest. They soon began to quarrel, for each of them boasted that he and his kind were far superior to the other both in strength and mind. Now they reached a clearing in the forest and there stood a statue. It was a representation of Heracles in the act of tearing the jaws of the Nemean Lion. "See," said the man, "that's how strong we are! The King of Beasts is like wax in our hands!" "Ho!" laughed the Lion, "a Man made that statue." --The Man & The Lion, from “The Aesop for Children: with Pictures by Milo Winter” Hosted by Austin Walker (@austin_walker) Featuring Keith J Carberry (@KeithJCarberry), Jack de Quidt (@notquitereal), Ali Acampora (@ali_west), and Art Tebbel (@atebbel) Produced by Ali Acampora Cover Art by Craig Sheldon (@shoddyrobot) Intro Music by Jack de Quidt
