Who are the people of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), the largest progressive Jewish-led pro-Palestinian and anti-Zionist organization in the world? The Grand Central Station sit-in made history as the largest act of civil disobedience in New York City since the Iraq War. In this episode, Laura Flanders talks with two JVP members, Rosalind Petchesky, veteran political scientist and a leading theorist on international reproductive rights and Jay Saper, an artist and Yiddish translator, about their heroes and their inspirations — including Israeli peace activists and the families of Israeli hostages; and we meet New York State Assemblymember Zohran K. Mamdani, a Muslim, a Democratic Socialist and the first South Asian man in the NYS Assembly. Long before October 7, 2023, Mamdani, who represents Astoria, Queens introduced the Not On Our Dime! Nadine Hack is the CEO of CEO of Be Cause Global Consulting (https://www.because.net/ ); globally ranked one of the Top 100 Thought Leaders on Trustworthy Business Behavior. If I were to take the time to share with you the hundreds of accolades she has received during the course of her illustrious career it would take up the entire podcast. Suffice it to say that photographs and letters from the likes of Nelson Mendella, Bishop Tutu, Andrew Young, and an entire range of business and nonprofit executives worldwide adorn her walls. She is a graduate of Harvard and the New School and was chosen as the very first woman to be Executive-in-Residence at IMD Business School in Switzerland where she continues to maintain an affiliation. From cutting her teeth on the first state assembly campaign of Shirley Chisholm, later the first African-American candidate for President, to enduring the slings and arrows from all sides to bridge the divide between Loggers and environmentalists in California, to working to bring an end to the horrors of Apartheid in South Africa, and sectarian and religious strife in Northern Ireland, just to name a few of her causes, Nadine has established herself among the most preeminent thought leaders internationally, specializing in the challenges of bringing together adversaries and enemies, and she has done so for more than 60 years with no signs of slowing down. She has been an envoy to the UN, and she is currently working on a book: likely titled "The Power of Connectedness" - with a forward written by the late Rev Bishop Desmond Tutu with whom she served as the Board Chair of the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation. She has also served as a director on both for-profit and not-for profit boards internationally. One of those Boards - of which she is exceedingly proud - is Global Citizens Circle, co-founded by her husband Jerry Dunfey. If you are a longtime listener to the Radical Centrist Podcast you may remember that in the very early days of the podcast I interviewed the newest Executive director of Global Citizen's Circle Theo Dunfey Spanos and we'll put a link to that podcast as well as a few other related podcasts in the show notes of this podcast. Her company has 33 Senior Associates internationally, each with their own teams and networks. As I said, Nadine volunteered on Shirley's first 1964 race for NYS Assembly. As a mentor, she taught Nadine that racism, sexism, classism, militarism, and environmental degradation are inextricably intertwined: what today we call intersectionalism.Still keeping hope alive all these decades later, it is my great privilege to bring you a conversation with Nadine Dunfey-Hack.
Join us with Tom Reynolds, President of NYS SCOPE- Shooters Committee on Political Educations. I spent almost 30 years as a Chief Financial and Chief Business Officer in colleges (Elmira College), wholesaling (hardware and beauty products), nursing homes and social services (group homes, children services, homeless). Before becoming a CFO I worked for GE and Ithaca College. In addition, I served on about 8 social services boards – usually as an officer. I am now retired.Heavily read in history, and biography but never was actively involved in politics until 2009 when I got involved with the Tea Party and that lead to involvement with the Republican Party. I was Vice Chair of the Tompkins County Republican Committee (Ithaca) for several years including 2 years after I no longer lived there. In 2010, I was asked to run for the NYS Assembly in the Ithaca area. I ran as a conservative republican in the most liberal area in upstate NY. In 2016, I was asked to run for SCOPE president and to my surprise I won. I said I would only serve one year. In 2018, I became SCOPE's Treasurer. In 2020, I was again asked to be SCOPE's President and am in my 3rd consecutive term. I got actively involved – instead of just voting - because I believe our constitution was / is threatened and the 2nd Amendment is the most threatened (followed closely by #1). It is hypocrisy to complain about something but when given a chance to do something to pass on it. SCOPE was formed as an educational organization to protect the Constitution with an emphasis on the 2nd Amendment. What makes us different from other 2A organizations is that we are chapter / county oriented. Few other 2A's have county chapters. We believe in working with other groups who shares our principles or have the same enemy (the enemy of my enemy is my friend)
