Could Ohio's latest law be a seismic shift toward religious indoctrination in public schools? We grapple with the state's decision to allow Bible classes during school hours, and the societal tremors it's causing. Explore with me the backlash from an Ohio State Representative against cities supporting abortion rights, despite Ohio's recent Abortion Rights Amendment. We also mention the electric atmosphere surrounding former President Donald Trump's trial in NYC, scrutinizing the charges of hush payments and the potential courtroom chess game. The meat of the episode lays out LifeWise's aggressive expansion, as this organization plants religious instruction within the fabric of public education – raising red flags over transparency and ethicality. We also scrutinize the recent Reproductive Rights Amendment's rocky road to enforcement and the polarizing legislation that threatens the rights of transgender individuals in Ohio. As we connect the dots between these critical issues, we underscore the importance of civic participation and the power of your vote to shape the future. From controversial amendments to the "bathroom ban" bill and beyond, this episode is a clarion call for social justice and an informed electorate ready to stand against the incursions of Christian nationalism into our public institutions.Full Show NotesSend us a Text Message.Support the Show.Subscribe to our free newsletterCheck out our MerchFind us on Twitter(for now) Find us on InstagramFind us on Counter SocialFind us on Mastadon

THE POLITICS EPISODE. With an introduction as long as the Gettysburg Address, Chris explains (by using his beloved Cleveland Browns as an incredibly strained metaphor for political tribalism) why he has actively avoided political conversation on the podcast thus far - and why it's now finally time to analyze our nation's current political divide. Chris is joined by longtime 3Q3D cohost and political junkie Amanda Adams, as well as an actual living, breathing politican: Ohio State Representative for the 34th district of the Ohio House of Representatives, Casey Weinstein. Over drinks both sophisticated and unrefined, the group discusses the root causes of our political polarization and whether it's possible to have better political conversations - including how we might see people less through the lens of red or blue and instead, as human beings worthy of respect no matter their political persuasion. Drinks in this episode:Ole Smoky Mountain Apple Pie Moonshine >> Call Uncle Jessie and have them Duke boys pack up the General Lee with a few bottles of Hazzard County's finest 'shine for delivery before Election Day. Pour it over ice and taste that sweet, sweet freedom.Sidecar Cocktail >> 1 1/2 oz cognac; 3/4 oz orange liqueur (such as Cointreau); 3/4 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice. Coat the rim of a coupe glass with sugar, and set aside. Add the cognac, orange liqueur and lemon juice to a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.Strain into the prepared glass, garnish with an orange twist and toast to democracy. Baluarte Reposado Tequila Reserva Especial >> Fly to Mexico and be seduced into purchasing this delicious 100% agave tequila by a smooth talking employee of the airport Duty Free Shop. Pour into a cocktail glass over a large ice cube, garnish with a lime wedge while citing the Pledge of Allegiance. If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a (5 star?!) rating. This week Carrie and Sky are joined by Kim McCarthy who is running for Ohio State Representative for District 73.About our Guest:It was after the 2016 election, when Kim saw the local county electoral ballot devoid of any meaningful choices, what with many of the elected seats going uncontested, that she began to focus more attention to things closer to home. Kim started attending the county commission meetings, and by using her accounting background to examine the state budget, began to understand the full scope of influence the state has over the actual material conditions experienced at the county and city levels. She also discovered that the current State Representative was not meaningfully advocating for the needs of the county he was supposedly representing in the Statehouse, and that many of the local officials were feeling very frustrated over that. She decided that Greene County deserved better, and vowed then to fight for better representation for the people who lived there.Kim is an accountant, and has been a long time business owner and entrepreneur. She is the proud mother of three children, and lives with them and their dog Boomer and cat Flipper, along with a hen house full of chickens and ducks, on Boomerang Farm in Sugarcreek Twp. Kim immigrated to Ohio from Brisbane, Australia back in 1994 and believes that Americans deserve the same basic quality of human rights and dignity that she grew up with there decades ago. She believes in a society that is based on justice, respect and empathy for one another, and for the environment in which we live and depend upon.Find out more about Kim McCarthy at www.kimmccarthyoh.comWant more? After spending the last 40 years as a licensed social worker, she retired to pursue her next passion. That mission is to represent her community in Ohio's 47th House District. She has been a lifelong fighter for the dignity and rights of her clients and the community at large. Working with organizations such as the Single Payer Action Network (SPAN), the League of Women Voters (LWV), Advocates for a Clean Lake Erie (ACLE), and the Community Solidarity Response Network (CSRN), she has learned some of what needs to be done in Columbus to improve life for those in her District.Nancy has worked consistently since she was 17 years old in a variety of jobs and understands the struggles inherent in working for a living and supporting a family. She believes in worker’s rights and in an economic structure that does not allow companies to chew people up and spit them out for excessive profits. She took part in a vote to unionize while working at a CMHC (Community Mental Health Center) and saw firsthand the benefits that come to workers who are unionized. It was a pivotal point in her understanding, and she has been committed to the right to collective bargaining and equal pay for all ever since.Find out more about Nancy Larson at www.Nancyfor.usWant more? Media Smears Against Trump BACKFIRE Driving Democrats Insane, Rep DEMANDS Trump Face "The Hague??" As the media consistently tries to smear the president Democrats often fall victim to false narratives. An Ohio State Representative recently called for Trump to face charges from the International Criminal Court in The Hague even though the US does not recognize its authority. The rep was outraged that Trump had touted a promising treatment for the virus as the global pandemic escalates. Because the media is obsessed with smearing the president she was unaware of what was really happening in the world. The CDC in fact touts the positives of the same treatment and governor Cuomo, a democrat, says that they are seeing positive results in NY.But still we see Democrats floundering in desperation as Trump is proven right time after time.I have to wonder when the media will start getting tired of being wrong all the time. Unless their goal is actually to just be contrarian they are just hurting Democrats and helping Republicans.Support the show (http://timcast.com/donate)

Juanita Brent, who represents residents in Bedford, Bedford Heights, parts of Cleveland, Highland Hills, Maple Heights, Mayfield Heights, North Randall, Orange, Pepper Pike and Warrensville Heights, discusses many hot topics facing the community right now. "I'll be honest with you - and I've said this before in many public places - it's stressful being black. When you look at infant mortality and maternal mortality, the highest numbers are among African American women." Listen as Ms. Brent describes her own journey that led to holding an office in Columbus where she plays an important role in shaping the legislation that affects people's lives throughout the state. Also learn about the issues facing this state as the conversation touches on many key Democratic priorities. As a millennial, she likes to maximize the use of social media to communicate with constituents. The driving force behind this activity is her interest in being transparent. "The biggest misconception that happens with elected officials is that we do nothing during our day. I like people to know that I have very full days, probably longer that most people because on average, my days last 12 hours, easily. To bring some transparency, I show snips of the day." The Good Samaritan Law goes into effect on September 13, 2016. Greg asks Representative Sprague about the law and what exactly it entails. “The law is addressing the issue of addiction in the state of Ohio. 8 out of 10 people that use narcotics, prescription pain pills or heroin, use with somebody else. While 8 out of 10 people that overdose, die alone,” says Rep. Sprague. “Overdosing takes time. Whoever is there with that person when they are using, if they don’t call 911, they are running. They don’t want to get in trouble. The Good Samaritan Law provides safety for individuals, so they won’t be prosecuted for minor drug possession. So they can call 911 and save somebody else’s life.”

The Claypool Lennon Delirium - â??Captain Lariat" The second half features David Sparks from Gem City Podcast #301 David Sparks for Ohio State Representative, 43rd District David Sparks is a veteran, a Wright State Grad, part of the Gem City Podcast, and heâ??s running for the Ohio State Representative, 43rd District. In this podcast, Izzy Rock sits down with David and his campaign manager Jack Keller. We chat about the state of politics, review Davidâ??s trip to the DNC, and have an informative podcast. Davidâ??s bio- My name is David Sparks, and I am running for the Ohio House of Representatives in the 43rd District. I am running because it is time for regular people to step up and change the laws of our state so its citizens can live better and more fulfilling lives. If you are looking for a holier than thou moralizing theocrat, or a middle of the road bought politician who is afraid to speak truth to power, please look somewhere else. I am a proud U.S. veteran who publicly opposed the first Persian Gulf war while in uniform. Had our nation listened to the much younger me back then, think of the millions of lives that could have been saved. It is with that same sense of courage and resilience to do what is right for regular everyday people, and not monied interests, that I will take into the Ohio Statehouse in 2016 when elected. I was born to a Dayton, Ohio policeman who later became a Southern Baptist Minister. My mother was a nurse. I have lived in the Dayton, Ohio area for most of my life. I am happily married to my second wife, Audra, and have two grown daughters, Hannah and Hunter from my first marriage. I have been a journalist, public school employee, musician, labor union president and currently am self-employed as an Internet developer. Ohio has been trapped by regressive politicians who want to keep the state stuck in the last century. I want to move Ohio forward. If you like my stances on the issues, then please vote for me in the Ohio general election this November 8, 2016.
