Oklahoma is leading the charge on immigration enforcement with "Operation Guardian," a state-led initiative to deport undocumented immigrants currently incarcerated. Governor Kevin Stitt announced that this program focuses on individuals who have committed crimes or violated federal asylum rules, aiming to fast-track their transfer to ICE custody after serving sentences. The program highlights a sharp contrast between red and blue states, with Oklahoma emphasizing law and order while states like California prioritize protections for undocumented individuals. Critics argue blue-state policies undermine public safety and burden taxpayers, as seen with Chicago spending $573 million on services for illegal immigrants. Oklahoma's initiative reflects conservative values by prioritizing public safety and fiscal responsibility, emphasizing that taxpayers shouldn't bear the cost of housing undocumented individuals who have violated U.S. laws. As the Biden administration ends, such efforts underscore a growing divide in immigration policy strategies across America.
This Week in Oklahoma Politics, KOSU's Michael Cross talks with Republican Political Consultant Neva Hill and Civil Rights Attorney Ryan Kiesel about the State Department of Education buying 532 Trump-endorsed Bibles for nearly $25K, Superintendent Ryan Walters mandating schools show a video of him announcing his Office of Religious Liberty and Patriotism along with him praying for President-elect Trump and a new initiative petition to open the primary election process to everyone. The trio also discusses Governor Stitt's "Operation Guardian" to deport convicted criminals who are also undocumented immigrants and an agreement over the settlement of a class-action lawsuit regarding the mental health treatment of inmates.

What are the core problems that gave rise to this round of fighting? How was it regarded in the United States? How was the Palestinian sphere affected by the change of U.S. administration and by the new administration's Middle East policy? What explains the difficulty in achieving long-term calm in the Egyptian-mediated contacts undertaken since the operation, and what policy might promote stability in the Gaza arena?
This week on The Jerusalem Post Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Yaakov Katz and Diplomatic Correspondent Lahav Harkov talk about the State Budget. The team discusses the highlights of the budget and how ministries across the state now have more money to do the things that they are supposed to. Later on in the episode, Katz and Harkov talk with Jonathan Schanzer, senior vice president for research at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, whose new book takes a deep look into Operation Guardian of the Walls, discussing it's successes and faults, and the ever-repeating cycle of violence that occurs between allied Palestinian terror groups in the Gaza Strip and Israel every so often. Katz and Harkov then speak with CEO of Bnai Zion and host of the Good Faith Effort Podcast Rabbi Ari Lamm to discuss his organization's missions and goals. They talk about Kanye West's most recent interview discussing kibbutzim and Judaism, as well as Lamm's podcast, which has brought on some fascinating guests to break down ideas from the weekly Torah portion. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East, and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Today's panel comprises environmental reporter Sue Surkes and Palestinian affairs correspondent Aaron Boxerman, along with host Jessica Steinberg. Surkes assesses the extent of ecological damage wreaked by the massive fires that ripped through the Jerusalem Hills since Sunday, turning some 25,000 dunams (6,200 acres) of woodlands into scorched earth, harming complex ecosystems. The Palestinian Authority sent four firefighting teams to assist in putting out the fires in the Jerusalem hills, prompting public thanks from Defense Minister Benny Gantz and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid. Back on the environmental front, a look at a $1 million prize kickstarted by Canadian philanthropist Jeff Hart aimed at bringing Israeli-based innovation technology to fight climate change worldwide. And finally, while several rockets were shot into Israel from Gaza this week, Israel isn't responding, in an effort to allow talks to proceed between Gaza and Israel, three months after Operation Guardian of the Walls. More than a month after Operation Guardian of the Walls ended, the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has not been stabilized. No mechanism has been established for rebuilding the structures and streets destroyed in Gaza during the recent fighting. The monthly infusion of cash from Qatar was frozen, pending the verification that it only be used for salaries and civilian projects - not for Hamas preparations for the next round of hostilities. Within the Hamas leadership, Yahya Sinwar's power is less secure than it used to be. What does it all mean to the new team at the helm in Jerusalem? In the 12 day war, Hamas shot thousands of rockets on innocent civilians, as the IDF retaliated against military targets in Gaza, doing everything it could to harm as few civilians as possible. While Operation Guardian has come to an end, there is another battle that is ongoing. One that probably won't end anytime soon. The battle for public opinion. Israel is fighting an uphill battle when it comes to advocating its case to the world. And some say it's not doing the best job. As the Palestinians have a sophisticated propaganda wing, reinforced by a chain of influencers and celebrities like the Hadid family, John Oliver and Trevor Noah, we have…. well, not much at all. Even our biggest celebrity, Gal Gadot, refrained from stating her clear unequivocal support for Israel. So, on to that almost empty stage stepped Rudy Rochman. Rudy is a noted speaker and writer on Jewish rights and an avid advocate for Israel worldwide. He was born in France but made aliya at the age of 3. He studied at Columbia University, where he joined Students Supporting Israel and served as the president. Since then he's been creating viral content on Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We are super thrilled to have Rudy Rochman on the podcast today!

Turkey’s attempts to fix its once strong ties with Israel have been sent back to square one following violence between Israeli security forces and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey loudly condemned the Israeli actions on May 9 when he described Israel as a “cruel terrorist state”. Outrage from Turkey intensified after Israel launched Operation Guardian of the Walls, an air campaign over the Gaza Strip that targeted Hamas militants but cost 256 Palestinian civilians their lives and left 13 Israeli citizens dead. After the harsh remarks from Turkey, prospects for reconciliation with Israel appear slim and it remains an open question if Ankara will continue making overtures. Dr. Gallia Lindenstrauss, a senior fellow at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) in Tel Aviv, said that she would not consider the process dead, but “seriously delayed” for now.
Welcome to Times Will Tell, the weekly podcast from The Times of Israel. In the wake of Operation Guardian of the Walls, late last week, host Amanda Borschel-Dan had a startling conversation with antisemitism scholar Adi Kantor from the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) in Tel Aviv. Kantor is a research associate at the Europe Research Program and in the institute's ongoing project "Contemporary Antisemitism in the United States.” Her main research fields include right-wing extremism, antisemitism, trauma, identity and intergenerational discourse after 1945. Kantor offers a disturbing look at the trend of increasing antisemitism that is sweeping the globe from all political and societal echelons. It's an upsetting conversation, but an important perspective to hear. "Israel is an inherently racist entity." "We like to kill children." These are just some of the statements that have been shared on social networks in the last couple of weeks. In this week's episode, Yaakov Katz and Lahav Harkov talk about how Operation Guardian of the Walls led to demonization of the Jewish state. Harkov notes that models Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid have more followers on Instagram than there are people in Israel, and they are spreading messages, such as that Israel is an apartheid state and worse. They speak with Diaspora Affairs Correspondent Jeremy Sharon, ADL CEO Jason Greenblatt and Head of the Board of Directors in the UK Marie van der Zyl. Greenblatt says there was a "drastic and dangerous" increase in antisemitism during the course of the operation. Photo credit: REUTERS, as seen on jpost.com
So, there's a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas…now what? In this special live episode of the show, we sat down with IDF military affairs expert Col. (Res) Reuven Ben-Shalom (nickname ‘Rabash') to discuss the aftermath of Operation Guardian of the Walls (שומר החומות), the cease-fire, and how we move forward from here. What transpired was a fascinating, nuanced discussion about the nature of modern war in the Middle East, IDF contingencies and battle tactics mixed with a bit or concern about the country's overall strategy (or lack thereof) to handling Hamas and the Gaza Strip. In addition, we talked about how this round of violence may only be the promo for what's to come should Hezbollah and Iran choose to join in the future, and we received a scary vision of what a full-scale, multi-front missile war would look like (beware – you might become a prepper after hearing about it…). Col. (Res.) Reuven Ben-Shalom (Rabash) is a cross-cultural strategist and columnist. He served for 25 years in the Israel Defense Force as a helicopter pilot and in various international relations positions. As a reservist, Reuven commands the IDF International Cooperation Division's Operations Center during times of contingency. He also teaches cross-cultural communication at the Israel Defense College and the IDF School of Military Diplomacy. He holds a B.Sc. in industrial engineering and management and M.Sc. in business administration from Ben Gurion University. Reuven is an associate at the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism. Welcome to the 100th episode of The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East, and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Today's panel comprises editor David Horovitz and culture editor Jessica Steinberg, along with host Amanda Borschel-Dan. As the Israeli news cycle continues from the 11-day Operation Guardian of the Walls to more mundane matters of coalition politics, Jews in the Diaspora are left to struggle with a lingering eruption of antisemitism. Horovitz brings some insights from a recent interview with former head of the Anti-Defamation League Abe Foxman. Even as rockets hammered down from Gaza, racist rioting hit the streets of mixed Jewish-Arab cities and towns, setting the stage for Arab rapper Sameh Zakout and Jewish educator Uriya Rosenman's “Bo Nedaber Dugri,” (Let's Talk Straight), a six-minute, 28-second rap. Steinberg discusses the song's impetus, long gestation, and "luckily" timed release. Israeli television exports are drawing ever-increasing fans. Will Kan's "Hamefakedet" ("Dismissed"), about an all-female unit of army misfits, make for another hit? Next, the tables are turned and Horovitz grills Borschel-Dan about a recent article she wrote about a study of ancient "bad Judaeans" who apparently didn't get the memo that they weren't supposed to eat non-kosher fish. Discussed articles include: At a moment of crisis for Israel in US, ex-ADL head warns: Israel has no vision Antisemitic acts in US soared 80% in a month, Jewish security group reports Straight talk rap confronts Arab-Jewish racism from both sides Bad Judeans? Actually, wait, that was a week ago! That’s the pace of things in the Middle East. Still, something big happened here. Tectonic changes. Things will never quite be the same as they were. Many people blamed the recent round of hostilities on Jerusalem-related events. Be it the Temple Mount, where we made the Palestinians angry, or Sheik Jarah, where… Apparently we made the Palestinians angry. They get angry quite often, I’ve noticed. But I digress. In the aftermath of Operation Guardian of the Walls, we decided to summon some of our favorite past guests to talk about what went down and the current situation. Ofir Dayan is a Temple Mount Enthusiast, an Al Aqsa aficionado if you will, and an advocate for Israel in the world. As a student at Columbia University in New York, she served as the head of SSI, Students Supporting Israel. Our second guest tonight, Jonathan Elkoury, was one of our first guests on the podcast back in 2001. Jonathan is an avid advocate for Israel in international media, he’s a political activist and recently, a reality tv star in a new upcoming show. We are thrilled to be joined by Ofir and Jonathan today to try and understand what the hell happened here, and what the future holds for Israel and Jerusalem.
In this episode, Kasim and his new co-host Corina have a heartfelt conversation with Daniel Pomerantz, CEO of Honest Reporting, about life in Israel during the recent Gaza-Israel conflict, Operation Guardian of the Walls. Hear directly from Jerusalem how difficult life under fire has been for our friends in Israel, especially in light of biased and false media coverage, and be encouraged by a special devotional by CUFI's Donor Development Director, Hope Hernandez.
Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East, and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Today's panel comprises political correspondent Tal Schneider and health reporter Nathan Jeffay, along with host Amanda Borschel-Dan. We begin today's episode with an update on the lifting of coronavirus restrictions here in Israel. The well-vaccinated country is not renewing most restrictions on gatherings, and will no longer limit entry to certain venues only to the vaccinated. However, the use of masks indoors is yet to be changed. Why? With the lifting of most restrictions and the very low infection rate, reports of vaccinations for children aged 12-15 by the end of May have some parents asking whether their kids actually need to be vaccinated. Jeffay presents new research that may see youth and young adults under 30 only receive one dose, which may ally some parents' concerns. On the domestic political front, head of Yesh Atid Yair Lapid only has until June 2 to firm up any possible coalition. As the numbers still don't add up, is this just an exercise in futility? And what of Yamina head Naftali Bennett and New Hope partner Gidon Sa'ar? Amid the horrific rioting that took place in many mixed Arab-Jewish cities during Operation Guardian of the Walls, there were several poignantly human stories illustrating that people really do just want to get along. Jeffay brings a couple. And finally, Schneider discusses just what was significant about the recent visit of United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Hint, it's not what you think. Discussed articles include: As virus fades, Israel to lift all COVID restrictions on gatherings Israel may begin vaccinating 12- to 15-year-olds by end of May Still far short of majority, Lapid finalizes coalition deal with Meretz Eyeing ‘change government,' would-be partners up pressure on holdout Bennett In emotional reunion, Jewish victim of Arab mob thanks Arab nurse who saved him In Ramallah, Blinken announces plans to reopen US consulate in Jerusalem Blinken: Hamas's foothold in Gaza could slip if US-led rehabilitation successful Subscribe to The Times of Israel Daily Briefing on iTunes, Spotify, PlayerFM, Google Play, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East, and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Today's panel comprises United States correspondent Jacob Magid and Palestinian affairs correspondent Aaron Boxerman, along with host Raoul Wootliff. As Israel and the international community continue to deal with the fallout from the 11-day Israel-Hamas conflict that ended last week, on today's show we look at efforts to rehabilitate both the Gaza Strip and Jewish-Arab relations in Israel. US Secretary of State Tony Blinken arrived in Israel today for a series of high-level meetings with various players in the region. What's the goal of his visit and how is the US hoping to influence the future of the broader Israel-Palestinian conflict? With the recent armed conflict triggering a rise in antisemitic incidents outside Israel, we assess responses from US leaders to the attacks and ask why some are coupling their condemnations with mentions of Islamophobia. DEVELOPING SITUATION: As everyone knows Israel is currently under attack from Hamas / Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), the Arab-Jewish cities are in disarray and social media has been flaming the firestorm of misinformation that is only worsening the situation. As of this release, most Israelis regardless of their background are in bomb shelters and under threat of being killed by extremists in Gaza who have taken advantage of a legal housing dispute and incendiary lies to wage indiscriminate attacks on Israeli civilians. To be clear: What they're doing is not about Palestinian rights, this is about eliminating the State of Israel. We pray and hope that the violence ends and that no more innocent lives are lost. Pray for Israel, Pray for Palestinian freedom from Hamas/PIJ.
