This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License.

The Chief Minister has said he trusts Labour and acknowledges that this Labour Government has gone further in protecting Gibraltar's interests than any before it. Speaking to Times Radio during the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, Fabian Picardo said both the Labour and Conservative Governments had made mistakes in the past, but said Foreign Secretary David Lammy had insisted that Gibraltar should be represented at treaty talks. An emotional protest was held outside No.6 Convent Place this morning, where Maryam Senouni chained herself to the cannons outside the Chief Minister's office. Her 15 year old daughter Yamina suffers from Pura Syndrome; she is wheelchair bound and requires round the clock care. Kevin Ruiz has been speaking to Maryam, who says that Yamina's housing situation is having a major impact on her health and quality of life. Is your personal data safe? How do you look after your personal data online and on your mobile phone? Are you concerned your data might be vulnerable? Steven Sanchez from the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority explained what personal data is and how we should keep it safe. Jose Mari Ruiz brought us the latest sports news, including the Athletics Association's 5k season curtain on Saturday, the latest in darts and a chance to try out a new sport: pickleball. Seaweed might be a nuisance at the beach, or a tasty addition to a salad, but what about its medicinal properties? Nell Cava from the University of Gibraltar is researching its potential. And, Red Hot Chilli Peppers tribute band Otherside have released an original track in that style. Jonathan Sacramento and Daniel Ghio, the band's lead singer and bassist, told us about the inspiration behind the new single titled “Inside Your Mind”. Hosted on Acast. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Political correspondent Tal Schneider and environment reporter Sue Surkes join host Amanda Borschel-Dan. Yesterday we heard the news that the Central Elections Committee disqualified former lawmaker and Yamina rebel Amichai Chikli from running on the Likud's candidate slate in the upcoming election. At the same time, fellow former Yamina MK Idit Silman is able to retain her spot. What's going on here? There are also petitions to disqualify two Arab parties from the upcoming elections: Islamist Ra'am and nationalist Balad. What are the chances they will be barred? New research suggesting that the extensive use of Arava desert vegetation to fuel the famous King Solomon's copper mines at Timna caused both the industry, and the local environment, to eventually collapse. Surkes fills us in. According to Israeli research, planting forests in drylands all over the world is unlikely to help in the fight against global warming and climate change. How does this affect Israeli reforestation? Just four months after arriving in Israel, former Greenpeace Russia media director Violetta Ryabko has penned a brochure for Israelis on ways to reduce plastic waste over the High Holidays. We hear some of her tips. Discussed articles include: Rebel ex-MK Chikli barred from running with Likud, which vows High Court appeal Wood cut to fuel King Solomon's ancient mines caused environmental collapse – study Planting trees in drylands unlikely to curb global warming, Israeli study shows How to do the holidays with zero waste, with an online guide Subscribe to The Times of Israel Daily Briefing on iTunes, Spotify, PlayerFM, Google Play, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Political correspondent Carrie Keller-Lynn and news editor Amy Spiro join host Amanda Borschel-Dan. Tuesday night during a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel of committing “holocausts” against Palestinians over the years. What have the responses been so far? Provocateur MK Itamar Ben Gvir is again in the news. First off, he is now eschewing a team up with far-right MK Bezalel Smotrich's party, and he's also calling for the transfer of disloyal citizens — including head of the Joint List Ayman Odeh. We hear about both moves. And briefly, we hear how former prime minister Naftali Bennett is making life a little harder for MK Idit Silman, who was the domino that caused the fall of the Bennett coalition. Spiro speaks about Kochava Levy, whom she labeled “The forgotten hero of the deadly 1975 Savoy Hotel attack in Tel Aviv.” We hear about the double standards in the fallout of the media coverage. And finally, pop star extraordinaire Noa Kirel finally said yes! What did she finally agree to? Discussed articles include: German chancellor ‘disgusted' by Abbas's ‘intolerable' 50 holocausts claim In Berlin, Abbas says Israel committed ‘holocausts'; Scholz grimaces but is silent ‘A monstrous lie': Abbas '50 holocausts' claim met with outrage in Israel, Germany Ben Gvir says he'd seek to expel Arabs who attack IDF soldiers, ‘disloyal' MKs Far-right leader Ben Gvir declares solo run, blames Smotrich for collapse of talks Bennett splits from Yamina, as ex-coalition MKs take revenge on renegade Silman The forgotten heroine of the deadly 1975 Savoy Hotel terror attack ‘Fasten your seatbelts': Noa Kirel confirms she'll represent Israel at Eurovision Subscribe to The Times of Israel Daily Briefing on iTunes, Spotify, PlayerFM, Google Play, or wherever you get your podcasts. Horovitz brings updates. This morning, we hear that former IDF top general Gadi Eisenkot and former Religious Affairs Minister Matan Kahana are joining ranks with Blue and White head Benny Gantz. Does this boost Gantz's chances? Berman is back in Israel following several weeks in Ukraine. He tells us about a Holocaust survivor who is again displaced by war and previews other upcoming pieces reported there. International media was flooded with headlines over the weekend about the stabbing of author Salman Rushdie as he prepared to give a lecture in upstate New York on Friday. Foreign Minister Yair Lapid will officially become prime minister at midnight tonight. What does the future hold for Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and his Yamina party? The Maccabiah Games will be held across Israel from July 12 to 26. Some 10,000 Jewish athletes from about 60 countries are expected to compete in dozens of sports.
