Once again, the world is focused on pressuring Israel to give in to Hamas demands, this time to remove IDF forces from the Philadephi corridor on the Gaza/Egypt border. Undertand, Hamas was able to smuggle in weapons and rockets, with Egyptian knowledge, because Israel relied on international promises, and then Egypt, to protect that border. Today, while Netanyahu explained to the world why Israel can never leave the Philadelphi corridor, other Israeli security experts, including former Defense Minister Benny Gantz, explained to the world that Israel can and should leave it. Find out how they are wrong, again.

Today's Headlines: In a week marked by escalating horrors, the US State Department confirmed the American death toll in Israel has reached at least 22 people, with 17 more unaccounted for, some of whom are among the estimated 150 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. The US has shown support by sending Secretary of State Antony Blinken to the region, deploying a second aircraft carrier, and actively seeking safe passage for American civilians out of Gaza. Meanwhile, Gaza's power station stopped operating due to a lack of fuel, causing a shortage of safe drinking water for over 600,000 people following Israel's blockade and military actions. The war further intensified as Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based group, fired anti-tank missiles into northern Israel, prompting an Israeli response and calls for restraint from the UN. In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a surprising move, agreed to form an emergency unity government with liberal-centrist ex-Defense Minister Benny Gantz, signaling dire circumstances. In the US, House Republicans nominated Representative Steve Scalise for Speaker of the House, with uncertainty surrounding whether he can secure a majority vote, in a development that challenges Donald Trump's endorsement of Representative Jim Jordan for the same role. The House is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow, but the timing of the vote remains uncertain. Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. **Tai-Ex opening ** The Tai-Ex opened up 150-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 14,325 on turnover of 6.2-billion N-T. The market extended momentum from its previous session on Monday to close above the 14,100-point mark, as investor interest got a boost on the back of reduced concerns over the U-S Fed's rate hike cycle in the wake of moderating inflation for October. The local bellwether electronics led the rise, after Wall Street moved higher last Friday, while buying also rotated to large-cap old economy stocks to lend strong support to the broader market during the trading day. **Government to Raise Weekly Arrivals Cap to 200,000 from December ** The Central Epidemic Command Center says the government will raise the weekly cap on arriving visitors from abroad from the current 150,000 to 200,000 from December 1. The move comes as the number of domestic coronavirus cases has been registering a decline for five consecutive weeks. According to center head Victor Wang, his office opted to expand the weekly capacity of inbound (入境) travelers in anticipation of increasing demand, driven by the gradual easing of border restrictions both here in Taiwan and many other countries. Wang says the government also expects to see an increased need for travel with the approach of the Christmas and year-end holiday season as well as the Lunar New Year. **Ceremony Held in Ukraine to Honor Killed Taiwanese Soldier ** The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says a farewell ceremony in honor of a Taiwanese man killed earlier this month fighting for Ukraine has been held at a church in the city of Lviv. Tseng Sheng-guang flew to Ukraine in June to join the International Legion of Ukraine's territorial defense forces and was confirmed to have been killed in fighting near Luhansk on November 2. The ministry says hundreds of people turned out at the ceremony, which took place at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. The attendees included Tseng's mother, wife and sister, who are being accompanied by foreign ministry personnel while in the Ukraine. **Israel Condemns US Probe into Journalist Killing ** Israel's Defense Minister says the United States government has started an investigation into the fatal shooting of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. Israel is condemning the probe as a “grave (嚴重的) mistake” and vowing not to cooperate. Defense Minister Benny Gantz made the statement on Twitter Monday, saying Israel has made it clear to the U.S. “that we won't cooperate with any external investigation.” Palestinian officials, Abu Akleh's family and Al Jazeera accuse Israel of intentionally targeting and killing the 51-year-old journalist, a claim Israel denies. **Bezos Promises to Give Away Most of Wealth ** Jeff Bezos, founder of online retail giant Amazon says he plans to give away most of his $124 billion fortune during his lifetime. Ben Caspit speaks this week with Amir Tibon, who serves as deputy editor for Haaretz' English edition. Tibon, an expert on Israel-US relations, believes that a nuclear deal with Iran is bound to be eventually reached, as it is in the interest of all the world powers involved in the negotiations. Tibon recalls that former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tried in 2015 to stop the agreement but failed. "Prime Minister [Yair] Lapid, alternate Prime Minister [Naftali] Bennett and Defense Minister [Benny] Gantz have adopted a more realistic policy, of trying to influence the agreement. They are not trying to kill it, but rather shape it so it would be more comfortable for Israel on certain aspects," he explains. Kyle breaks down the sad reality of the Afghan refugee situation one year after the U.S. withdrawal. People are still languishing in refugee camps run by Washington and its partners all over the world. In places like the UAE and Kosovo, the Afghans are living in prison-like conditions still awaiting transfer to the United States. Congress has appropriated $7 billion in to resettle the refugees, more than enough funding to get the job done, but it's not clear where the money is going. This humanitarian disaster seems to be continuing indefinitely. Still waiting to leave Afghanistan are tens of thousands of people who worked for the U.S. government and western-backed aid groups. Connor discusses the latest news on the JPOCA talks. The Iranians are preparing their reply to Washington's response to the EU's “final” proposal to revive the Iran nuclear deal. At the same time, the parade of hawkish Israeli defense and intelligence officials going to Washington continues with the head of the Mossad arriving next week. The Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Defense Minister Benny Gantz are demanding that the Joe Biden administration prepare a military option for Iran to extract impossible concessions. Iran has also presented Moscow with a European leader's proposal for a “peace initiative” to end the war in Ukraine, focusing on prisoner exchanges and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Connor then talks about some other recent news stories including the FSB naming a new suspect they say helped build the car bomb that killed the Russian journalist Darya Dugina, the Chinese People's Liberation Army announcing that strategic bombers will participate in “regular” patrols around Taiwan, the Greeks' S-300 air defense systems allegedly locking on Turkish F-16s in international airspace over the Mediterranean, and Israel Aerospace Industries' contracts with Rome for spy planes being used to fly NATO missions including along the Romanian, Moldovan and Ukrainian borders.   Odysee Rumble  Donate LBRY Credits bTTEiLoteVdMbLS7YqDVSZyjEY1eMgW7CP Donate Bitcoin 36PP4kT28jjUZcL44dXDonFwrVVDHntsrk Donate Bitcoin Cash Qp6gznu4xm97cj7j9vqepqxcfuctq2exvvqu7aamz6 Patreon Subscribe Star YouTube Facebook  Twitter  MeWe Apple Podcast  Amazon Music Google Podcasts Spotify iHeart Radio Support Our Sponsor Visit Paloma Verde and use code PEACE for 20% off our CBD

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Editor David Horovitz and military correspondent Emanuel Fabian join host Amanda Borschel-Dan. Satellite images obtained by Fabian on Saturday showed heavily damaged structures at a Syrian weapons base near the northwestern city of Masyaf in a Thursday airstrike attributed to Israel. Fabian tells us more. Russia has shipped its advanced S-300 air defense system in Syria back home amid its invasion of Ukraine, an Israeli satellite intelligence firm said Friday. Is this significant for Israel? Former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has again brokered a cooperation deal between Otzma Yehudit and Religious Zionism that seems to assure that both parties will cross the electoral threshold. Horovitz speaks about the editorial choice of consistently raising the alarm against the Kahane-aligned party, as he did in a scathing op-ed last week. Late last week during Defense Minister Benny Gantz's trip to Washington, DC, Israel received “good hints” with regard to the US having a working offensive plan against Iran. What does this mean, in practical terms even as both Gantz and the current Prime Minister Yair Lapid are overtly attempting to speak with the US about this deal. The Maccabi Haifa soccer team has risen to the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time in over a decade. The group was placed in group H of the Champion's League group stage, where it will face off against French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain on September 14 in Haifa. Military correspondent Emanuel Fabian and news editor Amy Spiro join host Amanda Borschel-Dan. The roads around Gaza have been closed since the arrest of Bassem Saadi, who leads Islamic Jihad in the West Bank, in fear of a retaliatory attack. Fabian updates us on the arrest and the days since. The threat of Hezbollah in regards to ongoing negotiations for a fixed maritime border with Lebanon was also on the table in yesterday's cabinet meeting. What's going on there? Six months ago the Israeli newspaper Calcalist published broad allegations against Israel Police using NSO spyware to hack into the phones of dozens of private citizens. Spiro shares the findings of Monday's 100-page investigation. New allegations of female soldiers and prison officers being sexually harassed and assaulted in Israeli prisons by Palestinian security prisoners has led to an altercation between Defense Minister Benny Gantz and Public Security Minister Omer Barlev. On this episode of the NTEB Prophecy News Podcast, like a swimmer caught in a summer rip tide, the Jews and Israel are being transported inexorably to the Two State Solution the prophet Joel has warned about for the past 2,500 years. How are they getting there? Through the Abraham Accords provided by former US president Donald Trump, and Emmanuel Macron lobbying to make it happen. Nothing like a King James Bible to help you makes sense of the headlines, eh? For those of us looking daily for the Pretribulation Rapture of the Church, today's Prophecy News Podcast is here to remind you that we are in the drop zone for that blessed event, so don't lose sight of the prize in the closing moments. There is lots of work still left for us to do...TO THE FIGHT!!! In Israel, Defense Minister Benny Gantz on Thursday expressed his support for leveraging Israel's new ties with several Arab countries to strengthen the Palestinian Authority, a first for a leading Israeli official. “I believe that we can leverage the Abraham Accords and ties with regional partners in order to strengthen the Palestinian Authority and promote confidence-building measures,” he said during a live interview at the Aspen Security Forum. You do remember us telling you that Emmanuel Macron and Mahmoud Abbas met on Wednesday to discuss the Two State Solution, right? Oh yeah, baby, that's how the snow blows.

A package of “good will gestures” presented by Defense Minister Benny Gantz will result in de facto Palestinian annexation of large sections of Area C – the portion of Judea and Samaria under full Israeli jurisdiction. This according to the right-wing NGO Regavim. It includes “legalization” of hundreds of illegally-built structures and expansion of Arab villages, isolating and choking existing Jewish communities and threatening the security and feasibility of the entire settlement enterprise. Naomi Kahn, Director of the International Division of Regavim, an Israeli NGO dedicated to protecting Israel's land resources, told reporter Arieh O'Sullivan that the package if it goes through would reward the Palestinian Authority's continued efforts to create facts on the ground and establish a de facto Palestinian state in the heart of the Land of Israel. Bush's viral confession- by-gaffe to war crimes in Iraq, President Joe Biden's resistance to Kiev's demands for long range rocket launchers, U.S./Israeli war drills aimed at Tehran, and the latest news on the Iran nuclear deal. Kyle and Connor watch and discuss Bush's Freudian slip rapidly making the rounds where he is giving a speech denouncing an illegal, brutal, unprovoked war in Iraq when he meant to say Ukraine. Bush was trying to paint Russian President Vladimir Putin as the ultimate mass murderer, Hitler du jour, but subconsciously realized he could just as easily be reading his own criminal charges. Bush writes this off as him just losing it in his old age. However, it is a blatant example of the fetish for projection fashionable in Washington these days, particularly among those like Bush himself who is forever covered in the blood of a million dead Iraqis. Kyle breaks down Biden's apparent reluctance to send Ukraine the long range rocket launchers they have requested, namely the M270 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems. These weapons would enable Kiev to launch strikes deeper beyond Russia's borders, attacks on Russia have become an increasingly more common occurrence and threaten to uncontrollably escalate and expand the conflict. Connor talks about a series of ongoing Israeli military exercises called Chariots of Fire. The exercises largely eye an attack on Iran and also include preparation for contingencies of a wider regional war with the Resistance Axis. U.S. Air Force refueling aircraft will soon be joining Israeli fighter jets over the Mediterranean Sea to simulate a wide scale assault on Iran. The simulation will practice how to enter Iranian territory and conduct repeated airstrikes. This comes as Israel just recently bombed Syria, killing as many as five people. Defense Minister Benny Gantz claimed they were targeting advanced Iranian military assets. This latest strike is also notable because it is the first time the Russians fired back at Israeli warplanes using the S-300 air defense systems they have provided Damascus. The new development will likely change the Israeli strategy in Syria, given that, for many years, they have taken for granted that they can bomb the country on a weekly basis virtually without consequences. Connor continues the Iran news by detailing a series of talks with the European Union's nuclear negotiator in Tehran. The EU has reportedly made enough progress, breaking the two months long deadlock, and relaunched indirect talks between the U.S. and Iran. Though no date for new Vienna talks has been set yet, Josep Borrell, the EU Foreign Policy Chief, says a deal is now within reach. The Iranians and the Americans have put the onus on each other to do what needs to be done politically to move things forward. Though Tehran says they now await U.S. responses to new proposals they put forward presumably during last week's talks with Mora. Ben Caspit speaks this week with Gen. (ret.) Ephraim Sneh, a geopolitical expert and former minister. While the current government did change some of its approach to the Palestinians, it is not really presenting any new policies on the issue, argues Sneh. Only one third of the coalition is against the two-state solution. The rest are in favor of it. Still, the government had not prevented provocative settlement attempts in the West Bank. These include enlarging settlements around Jerusalem in order to separate the city from the area that is supposed to be a Palestinian state. "Meeting senior Palestinian Authority official Hussein al-Sheikh and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas [the way Foreign Minister Yair Lapid and Defense Minister Benny Gantz did] is not enough in order to rectify the policies of the former government," he says, noting this by itself will not prevent the situation from deteriorating into an ethnic conflict. After almost four months in power, the Israeli government seems to enjoy from both in its dealings with the major Arab countries bordering it. Egypt and Jordan warmed up to Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Defense Minister Benny Gantz and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, who are seemingly on the same page regarding Israel's security needs. It is important to stress that while outstanding disputes pertaining to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict challenge Jerusalem's keen aspiration to normalize relations with additional Arab states; the common threat posed to the Jewish State and the Sunni-Arab world by the revolutionary Shi'ite Islamic Republic of Iran – serves as a trigger to what appears to turn into inevitable Jewish-Arab rapprochement. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East, and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Today's guests are military writer Judah Ari Gross and political reporter Tal Schneider, with host Jessica Steinberg. Gross fills us in on the recent uptick in Gazan violence, and examines what that really means in terms of Hamas control over the Gaza Strip, a situation that recent Israeli governments have allowed, rather than risk escalating the situation. Schneider discusses how she came about her latest feature regarding a secret 2017 mission by Israeli engineers and an American Jewish lawyer to steal into Iraq in order to rehabilitate the tomb of the prophet Nachum. That feature will be in the Times of Israel on Wednesday, after first appearing on Zman Yisrael in Hebrew. Gross and Schneider close the podcast with a conversation about recent statements on the part of Defense Minister Benny Gantz and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid regarding Iran, Israel and the US. Allison Kaplan Sommer, Don Futterman and Noah Efron discuss three topics of incomparable importance and end with an anecdote about something in Israel that made them smile this week. Listen to the Extra-Special, Special Extra Segment on Patreon   —The Year That Was— The Talmud says that on Rosh Hashanah God judges the deeds of all creatures over the prior year. We figured, we'd get a jump on the job, giving God a hand, and figure out what we did right and what we did wrong over the past year. —The Defense Minister & the President— Defense Minister Benny Gantz and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas meet on the down-low to talk about anything but peace. What's it augur? —Afghanistan and the Jewish Question— Do Israelis have anything to learn from the heartbreak in Afghanistan? (Because, you know, it's always, at least a little, about us.) —Is Canceling This Year's High Holiday a Retreat From All That Has Preserved Judaism Forever?— For our most unreasonably generous Patreon supporters, in our extra-special, special extra discussion, we talk about the brouhaha over an essay in Tablet in which Liel Leibovitz takes American rabbis to task for being overly COVID cautious. Liebowitz writes that “Jews celebrated Shabbat in silence under the Inquisition, lighting candles in darkened basements even though the flickers of holy light could attract the penalty of death. Jews baked matzo in the ghettos and observed Yom Kippur in the camps.” To cancel the high holidays now, he suggests, is a craven retreat from all that has preserved Judaism forever. Might he have a point? All that and music of inspiration and atonement for the new year!

September 1 brings the first day of school in Israel, with questions about vaccinated students, rapid testing and Green Passes. Despite tales of some parents and teachers rebelling against the current system, Goren takes a more positive spin on the bumpy beginning, looking at the 80% vaccination rate among older students, and the chance for teachers to finally look at their students, face to face. Gross weighs in on his report about the approved NIS 500 million loan to the Palestinian Authority, which was agreed upon during last week's talks between Defense Minister Benny Gantz and PA President Mahmoud Abbas. On today's Israel Uncensored with Josh Hasten, Josh says that the gathering, on the heels of Friday's meeting between Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and US President Joe Biden in Washington, is disturbing. Despite the fact that the PA continues to pay terrorists and their families for the murder of Israelis though their "pay for slay" program, it seems that Israel is once again trying to legitimize and bolster the PA, which has been a failed policy since the Oslo Accords in the mid-1990's.

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East, and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Today's panel comprises editor David Horovitz and military correspondent Judah Ari Gross, along with host Amanda Borschel-Dan. International media has reported that an Iranian centrifuge production site was targeted in a drone attack Wednesday. What are we allowed to know about this and what does it mean for Iran's race towards a nuclear weapon? IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi has spent much of the week in Washington, DC, loudly decrying the United State's stated plan to rejoin the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. In return, he was told by US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan that US President Joe Biden has a “commitment to ensuring that Iran never gets a nuclear weapon.” Is this a success? Defense Minister Benny Gantz's office said Wednesday that he intends to call for a vote on the formation of a state inquiry into the so-called submarine affair. He's facing opposition from parts of the coalition, including Justice Minister Gideon Sa'ar. But is Gantz's crusade also personal? And finally, all you want to know about IDF lasers that are projected to become a viable -- and relatively cheap -- defense mechanism in the near future. Discussed articles include: Attack on Iranian nuclear site damaged centrifuge production facility – reports Iran nuclear site hit Wednesday was on list of targets Israel gave US – report After Kohavi meeting, US reaffirms commitment to not let Iran get nukes Meeting top US officials, Kohavi blasts American plans to rejoin Iran deal Gantz, Sa'ar feud over proposed state inquiry of submarine scandal In test, Defense Ministry shoots down drone with plane-mounted laser Subscribe to The Times of Israel Daily Briefing on iTunes, Spotify, PlayerFM, Google Play, or wherever you get your podcasts. There is a clear surge in inflammatory rhetoric surrounding the 'change bloc' even as the Yair Lapid-led coalition creeps toward solidifying a new government. In a rare public statement, Shin Bet head Nadav Argaman has warned that there may be blood. In the era of social media, is this incitement unprecedented? In this particularly sensitive period, Defense Minister Benny Gantz has demanded that the far-right flag march that is tentatively scheduled for Thursday be canceled. But wait -- didn't that already happen on Jerusalem Day last month? And finally, Berman explains the background behind IDF decorations that will be issued starting tomorrow for those who served in the southern Lebanon security zone from 1985-2000.
