Without denying the real pain we carry, Lina shows Christians how to rediscover joy…how God’s presence is promised in every valley, trial and tribulation. Lina Abujamra is a Pediatric ER doctor & the founder of Living with Power Ministries. Her latest book is Still Standing - Following Jesus Even When it Hurts. She joins Perry & Shawna for an honest conversation about our desire to control all of life, how following Jesus doesn’t look like what we thought it would, wrestling with knowing God can change everything in a moment during our long suffering, and how our feelings can betray us. If you’re struggling to walk faithfully with God through your struggle this conversation will remind you that God is with you and that it’s possible to experience joy on the road marked with suffering. Also, in 2016 Shawna hit a low point. She remembers having to pull off the road, weeping as she listened to Danny Gokey’s “Tell Your Heart To Beat Again.” When it feels like life is over – it could be just beginning. Last, the greeter at church said to Perry one Sunday morning, “Why so glum??” That was a pick me up. Not! But then he experienced the transformative power of God’s presence. It’s all about the gift of gathering together, in person, to worship.Support the show: https://give.moodyradio.org/fall-share?v=def&appeal=MRWM&_gl=1%2a142i9we%2a_ga%2aNTE4MTE5MmUtY2U1Yy00YmQ3LWU4MmUtNjEwYTQ5YzAyODRj%2a_ga_4WH1937046%2aMTY5NTExODEwMS4yOTkuMC4xNjk1MTE4MTAxLjYwLjAuMA..&_ga=2.197426156.215784306.1695059984-1182841406.166859587See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Christian life is faithfully walking—and uncovering joy—on a road paved with suffering. We live in a fallen and broken world full of disappointments and the loss of dreams. And there is a cost to following Christ—often painfully felt in close relationships. On Wednesday's Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, author and founder of Living with Power Ministries, Lina AbuJamra shares how God's refining process makes Him bigger in our hearts and transforms us into people who are like Him. Our pain can lead to despair and bitterness, or it can make us more like Jesus. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We're continuing the Upside Down Series with five key takeaways from Acts 3, which narrates the healing of a lame beggar by Peter and his delivery of a compelling sermon to the spectators. Peter and John know where their strength lay: in the name of Jesus. At the name of Jesus every name will bow, every tongue will confess, the past is forgotten, the future is secure, access is granted, sins are forgiven, the Bible is alive, peace is certain, prayers are granted, temptation is defeated, healing is accomplished, Satan is destroyed, fear is dispelled, death is overcome, captives are set free, the blind see, the lame walk, the hurting heal, unity is possible, life is granted, and God is glorified. Are you living in the power of that name? ABOUT: Lina AbuJamra founded Living with Power Ministries and is a popular Bible teacher, podcaster, and conference speaker. Are you hurting and find yourself turning to whatever it takes to quiet the ache inside? You're not alone. We're all broken, lonely people in need of love and affirmation, but what if instead of seeing our pain as something to be numbed, we'd let it awaken us to what we really need – intimacy with God? In this podcast episode you'll hear a conversation with Ainsley Britain where I share my story of writing Don't Tell Anyone You're Reading This. My hope and prayer are that God will use my brokenness and my story to help you step out of your dark tunnel into the light. Do you struggle with sexual temptation? Is there any area of sin in your life that keeps you from experiencing intimacy with Jesus? Do you deal with continual bouts of shame and guilt because you fail in certain aspects of your life? Have you ever shared your struggles with anyone? Do you have a secret, a part of your life that you hope nobody will discover? Chris Fabry said, Don't Tell Anyone You're Reading This is one of the most vulnerable books I have ever read, and when you're vulnerable, you give others permission to be real, honest, open, and allow them to feel less alone in their struggle. This is what Lina Abujmara does in her new book – she encourages and helps you to come out of hiding and experience the freedom, healing, and joy that are yours in Christ. On today's podcast you will hear a conversation with Chris Fabry that I believe will help you understand what's at the root of your struggles and how to change. “Why can't I stop doing what I know as a follower of Jesus that I shouldn't be doing? Why are so many of us unable to control what we so naively thought we could? Here's a thought: what if we fail in controlling our sexual sin not because we can't control it, but because we like it? What if the reason we keep going back to the place that we hate and do the things we abhor is that deep down, doing what we hate makes us feel better about what our deeper problem is? What if we're just going about it all wrong?” In today's episode of The Hope Podcast, you'll have the opportunity to listen to the second chapter of my book Don't Tell Anyone You're Reading This. "It's not a book about sexual purity and the rewards God gives to his sexually faithful followers. This is not a book about singles and sex, nor is it a book about married sex. God knows I don't know a thing about that. "This is a book about the struggle with our desires, and why so many committed followers of Jesus are still failing in our sexual lives and how to change. In today's podcast, as we delve into Hebrews 4-5, we will come to understand that our greatest sense of confidence comes from knowing that God loves us so deeply. In this episode I'm also pointing out five reasons why we are not changing and growing in our faith, and the main things that I believe stand in our way of drawing closer to God. Take some time to reflect on this episode. What applies to you the most? What changes can you make? One of the greatest battles we encounter as followers of Christ is the struggle against unbelief. When our prayers go seemingly answered, when we don't see the results we hoped for, when life hurls one curveball after another, we're tempted to succumb to fear, disappointment, and to forget who is on our side. In Hebrews chapter 3, the author is making a point that one of the most effective ways to fight unbelief is to consider Jesus, to think carefully about Him (Hebrews 3:1). By considering Him we will come to the realization that He is faithful, and that is all the confidence we need in the face of anything that comes our way. If you're going through a difficult time today, this episode will help remind you of God's faithfulness to His people, always. Won't you trust that He will be faithful to you as well? Today we're continuing The Confidence Series with a look at Hebrews chapter 2 where we will recognize another reason we can be confident: because God is in control. Much like us today, the early Christian believers were living in tumultuous times. They confronted injustice, endured suffering, and grappled with a sense of uncertainty, all of which tempted them to forsake their faith. In this context, the author of Hebrews reminds them, and us, that even when things look messy, when life is challenging, and our suffering seems to have no end, God is in control, and we can freely trust Him! Our confidence does not hinge on our immediate circumstances but is rooted in the One who holds the entirety of the universe and its unfolding history in His hands. Whatever difficulties you might be facing today, this podcast will encourage you to look to Him and find the confidence to go on. I'm so excited to welcome you back to a new podcast series through the book of Hebrews I called The Confidence Series: How to fully trust God when I don't see the way. How do we navigate times of adversity victoriously? What do we need to stand unshaken in a rapidly changing culture? How do we replace our insecurities with immovable faith? How do we overcome disappointments and experience stability in the most unpredictable of times? The author of Hebrews knows the answer—CONFIDENCE in God. Writing to a people living in turbulent times, challenged to reconcile the victorious Christian life with the trials they were facing and tempted to abandon their faith completely, the author of Hebrews urges believers to remain confident because of the things they know to be true about God. I believe that now, more than ever, we need to become more God-confident and to remain steadfast in our resolve to follow Christ. God has placed within each of us a holy discontent, a stirring, a desire for something more. It's a longing that cannot be satisfied by anything else but a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. In today's podcast we'll look at Revelation 22 and delve into God's invitation to us, the blessings that are still to come to those who seek Him, as well as learn how to cultivate a desire for more of God. Hey, we'll take a break from podcasting for the rest of August, but I can't wait to share what's next on the Hope Podcast! Life often presents us with trials, doubts, and circumstances that challenge the very core of our beliefs. In these moments, it's natural to question if our faith truly holds any weight. The lineup of men and women from Hebrews 11 certainly understand the struggle in our heart, and the way they responded to adversity, unfairness, confusion, or God's silence, serves as a timeless guide for us during our most trying times. So, grab your headphones, open your heart, and listen to today's podcast because I believe your doubt will meet purpose and your uncertainty will meet hope. What's your relationship with failure like? Where do you see yourself as a failure and how have you responded to that failure? John 21 is one of my favorite stories in the Bible. Here we encounter how Jesus responded to Peter after what was probably his biggest failure yet – the denial of Jesus before His crucifixion. Instead of scolding him, Jesus loves him and points him to his purpose and calling. I believe today's podcast will bring you hope and remind you that your failure is not the end of your story, but perhaps the pathway for future ministry. Maybe not a lot has turned out as anticipated and the losses and tensions you have felt, have left you discouraged. Maybe you might find it difficult to be grateful this time of the year. Trust me, I understand. But I believe this podcast will open our eyes to see that we can trust God's goodness and faithfulness even in the darkest of times; that we can stand strong no matter what, full of gratitude, even when things don't go our way (Acts 6–7). Have you ever placed your trust in God, hoping for a positive outcome, only to feel let down? In Matthew 11, John the Baptist's story looked like it ended badly from a human perspective. Here was an individual whom Jesus considered to be the greatest among all men (Mat. 11:11) stuck in prison, hoping to be delivered, only to be beheaded instead. From the viewpoint of God, John's final outcome was intricately designed with divine purpose, his life was profoundly meaningful, and his calling was successfully carried out. We too can sometimes misunderstand God's ways and methods, but they are always for our good and for His glory. If you feel disappointed, weary, or perplexed, today's podcast will encourage you to trust God's purposes even when His ways feel hurtful or confusing. You and I face various temptations every day of our lives. What strategies can we employ to win the battle over our temptations? How can we truly walk in the abundant life Christ promised? Is it ever going to get any easier? What do we do when we fail? The encounter between Jesus and the devil in Matthew 4 reveals crucial principles for conquering temptation and living victorious Christian lives. As you listen to this podcast you will learn that we are not left to fight these battles alone! God's grace empowers us, and His Holy Spirit guides us to emulate Christ's example and triumph over the allure of sin. Sometimes we don't know how things are going to turn out in our life. In Daniel 3 we encounter three men—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—facing a situation where their fate hangs precariously between potential salvation and possible demise. Regardless of the outcome, will they remain obedient to God? When we find ourselves in that space where the outcome looks “iffy” at best, God is asking us to make certain decisions that will allow us to stand unshaken in our faith, knowing that obedience will not guarantee us the outcome we might want, but God's faithful and abiding presence. Being a Christian will inevitably create some dissonance with our culture and pressure to fit in. What do we do when we're asked to say and do things that are contrary to the guidelines of Scripture? Will we choose what's popular or what's true? Will we choose temporary comfort or eternal joy? Will we choose pleasing man or pleasing God? In today's podcast we'll look at Daniel chapter 1 and learn from this man what it means to obey God in a shifting culture when it's easier to blend in. There are so many things that can weigh down on us and steal our hope, things like our present problems, our worries and fears, our glaring loneliness, our deep disappointments, or our failures and unmet expectations. As we look at a man accustomed with pain and loneliness in today's podcast, I believe our perspective on the difficult seasons of our life will change. Job's response to the pain in his life will encourage us to look at our difficult circumstances through the lens of who God is and see that the best days are yet to come because we serve a God who is good, faithful, who sets the seasons of our life and who appoints that which concerns us. Do you have a God-given dream? Why does God take His time to fulfill the dream He's put on your heart? Why does your dream bring with it deep opposition? Today we're returning to a teaching series on unshaken faith where we look at stories of men and women in the Bible who in the midst of their trials learned to stand unshaken no matter what. (You can listen to previous episodes here). Have you ever felt God's will to be confusing in your life? How do you respond when you start out thinking God has called you to something and things don't end up turning out like you thought they would? Look with me today to David's story in 1 Samuel 22 and see that although God's will might look confusing sometimes, He is constant, steady, in control and is simply using the pain and disappointment in our life to propel us to the next chapter in our story. We all face overwhelming circumstances in our life that make us feel afraid, trapped, helpless, uncertain if we can make it much longer. Do you feel like your problems are bigger than your abilities? Does it seem like your enemies are stronger than your allies? Are your emotions heavier that you can process? King Jehoshaphat can relate. In 2 Chronicles 20 we're told about the time when he got news about an army coming against him and his people, an army he knew he could not win against on his own. He felt overwhelmed, and rightly so. But his response in this situation is remarkable and teaches us some powerful truths about how to deal with our own challenges. The desert seasons are common in the Christian life. In fact, a careful look at Scripture reveals that no one was mightily used by God until that person became deeply acquainted with the desert. In Hebrews 11 we encounter several men and women who faced incredibly difficult circumstances, yet they were not moved to despair by the things they faced in this world. These desert fathers and mothers remind us of some principles that will help us see the desert not as a place to escape from but as God's intentional place to accomplish His purposes in us. Take a listen! Hope is awakened as we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. As long as we live in corruptible bodies, we're going to face the desert of temptation. Sometimes we're even going to stumble. The greatest saints have despaired over their propensity toward temptation even in their old days. Even so, we don't have to throw in the towel and simply give in. Jesus modeled for us how to battle temptation and live victoriously, and we are called to follow His example. In today's podcast I invite you to learn and apply four habits that will help you overcome the desert of temptation. I can't wait for you to listen to this episode! One of the most common deserts we go through is the desert of God's silence. What do we do when we get a sense that God has forgotten us, leaving us feeling isolated and confused? What do we do when we've felt stuck in a spiritual desert for such a long time, we have begun to doubt God exists at all? What do we do when God is silent? Today's podcast will remind you that although God might be silent, He is not absent. And although He might fail to respond in the way and timing we desire, He is inviting us to a walk of trust and submission to His ways. Community and connection are no longer a given. We're living in an era where our work, “social life,” relationships, and even church is done on a device. We don't reach out to, relate to, or do life together, in person, with others any longer. We can blame it on Instagram, TikTok, Covid, church leadership failure, or simply cultural influences, but there is no doubt that more and more people feel lonely even as we're more “connected” than ever before. How do we navigate the desert of community as believers, knowing that community is what we were created for, but also realizing the real challenges to building community nowadays? Find out in this podcast episode in our Desert series! ABOUT: Lina AbuJamra founded Living with Power Ministries and is a popular Bible teacher, podcaster, and conference speaker. Leon Benjamin is the Senior Pastor and Bishop of New Life Harvest Church in Richmond, VA. Bishop Benjamin, a former Democrat and Gulf War veteran, is an emerging evangelical leader on the national front as a media spokesperson and conservative political activist. He operated as a surrogate for Trump on the presidential campaign trail and worked on the Faith-Based Initiative support team during the President-Elect’s transition to the White House. He played a vital role in a group of about 20 to 30 evangelical leaders who regularly serve as informal advisors to the Trump administration. Bishop Benjamin is currently the Richmond GOP Chairman for the Republican Party of Richmond City. Pastor Maria accepted her call into ministry at a very early age of 14, serving as lead drummer (set) in her church at Ebenezer Church of our Lord Jesus Christ. The topic of human trafficking is a topic that the church just hasn't completely missed, but has often ignored entirely. We speak with Christine Caine about how human trafficking takes on many forms outside of what has been sensationalized by Hollywood, how it is prevalent in our very own backyard, and what Christians should do when they don't know what to do. Christine Caine is a world-renowned expert on human trafficking. She has started the A21 campaign alongside her husband, Nick, which received the Mother Theresa Memorial Award for its work combating human trafficking among refugees. She also is the founder of Propel Women. Some more resources related to this episode can be found at a21.org, propelwomen.org.
