April 4, 2025Today's Reading: Mark 13:24-37Daily Lectionary: Genesis 47:1-31; Genesis 48:1-49:28; Mark 13:24-37[Jesus said,]“From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. (Mark 13:28-31)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.During Holy Week, Jesus foretold what the end of time would be like. Looking around, He mentioned the budding of the trees and the emerging leaves. If you look around you, you see that, too. Jesus wants springtime to remind you that Jesus and His return are near. He is coming again. That seems like a strange message just a few weeks before Easter. Usually, we think about the end of the world in the fall and winter as the days grow short and the darkness lengthens. Here, Jesus mentions it with new life and restoration and the plants growing again. The Last Day is, after all, a continuation of Easter and a celebration of new life.Wait, you haven't thought about the end of the world as a fulfillment of Easter and new life before? That's fair. But do it now. Easter is a spring festival because Passover originally happened in the spring and was observed after that in the spring. As the leaves start to bud on the trees and flowers grow and people start to plant their gardens, reflect that this new growing season points ahead to the “new season” of God's restoration when the current heavens and earth are replaced with the perfected, restored heavens and earth. In a couple of weeks, look at the Easter lilies and think, “Not only is it springtime, but Jesus' resurrection is preparing me for eternal life!” As Jesus prepares you for Easter, He also prepares you for His return in glory when the Tree of Life will bear fruit every month (Revelation 22:1-2), and all things will be new and perfect. Springtime is great, but the eternal life of resurrection with God is even better! Look forward to that day of new life that began when Jesus rose from the grave to new life at Easter. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Herald, sound the note of triumph; Christ has come to share our life, Bringing God's own love and power, Granting vict'ry in our strife. Sound the trumpet! Tell the message: Christ, the Savior king, is come! (LSB 511:4 and refrain)-Rev. Peter Ill, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Millstadt, IL.Audio Reflections Speaker: Pastor Jonathan Lackey is the pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, Vine Grove, KY.Visit the timeless rhythms of the Christian life with award-winning author Harold L. Are You Approaching Your Marriage the Right Way? Marriage is a beautiful journey, but it can often be challenging. In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to lose sight of the spiritual aspect of marriage. This post dives into the importance of approaching your marriage with the right mindset and tools, focusing on the biblical values that can help foster a healthy and fulfilling relationship. Understanding the Spiritual Aspect of Marriage Marriage is designed by God to be a good thing. However, in a society that often overlooks biblical principles, we can forget this truth. The enemy, as described in the Bible, seeks to destroy what God has created for good. This means that when we enter into marriage, we must be aware that challenges will arise, often stemming from spiritual warfare. It's crucial to remember that the enemy hates healthy marriages. When two people commit to loving each other and serving God together, they become a powerful testimony of God's faithfulness. However, over time, we may start to view our spouse as the enemy. This shift can lead to fighting the wrong battles and creating division in our relationship. Recognizing the Real Enemy Many couples find themselves in a cycle of conflict where they perceive each other as adversaries. This dynamic often stems from frustrations and misunderstandings, leading to a focus on the symptoms of deeper issues instead of addressing the root causes. The real enemy is not your spouse but the spiritual forces that seek to undermine your marriage. When conflicts arise, it's essential to take a step back and evaluate the situation. Are you fighting against your spouse or addressing the real issue at hand? Recognizing that the enemy wants to sow discord can help you shift your perspective and approach your marriage with understanding and compassion. Using the Right Tools for Your Marriage Just as a gardener needs the right tools to cultivate a beautiful yard, couples need the right tools to nurture their marriage. God has provided us with everything we need to create a thriving relationship, but it's up to us to utilize those tools effectively. This includes prayer, communication, and spending time in the Word of God. Many people approach marriage without using the proper tools, leading to neglect and discontent. We often hear about high divorce rates, even among believers, which highlights the need for couples to actively engage in their relationships. It's essential to commit to using the right tools consistently to build a strong foundation. The Importance of Communication Effective communication is vital in any relationship, especially in marriage. Couples need to establish an environment where open and honest dialogue can take place. This means setting aside time to discuss feelings, frustrations, and goals without the pressure of immediate conflict. When disagreements arise, approaching them with a mindset of collaboration rather than confrontation can lead to more productive conversations. Instead of pointing fingers and assigning blame, use "we" language to emphasize shared responsibility. This fosters unity and helps both partners feel heard and valued. Embracing Simplicity in Marriage In our quest for a fulfilling marriage, we often overcomplicate things. The reality is that many of the actions that can lead to a thriving relationship are simple yet powerful. For instance, being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger can significantly impact how conflicts are resolved. Sometimes, the simplest actions yield the most profound results. Consistently practicing small gestures of love and appreciation can create a more robust emotional connection between partners. Remember, it's the small, everyday actions that contribute to the overall health of your marriage. The Role of Patience and Perseverance In our instant gratification society, many couples struggle with patience. We want quick results and immediate satisfaction, especially when it comes to resolving conflicts. However, it's essential to recognize that building a strong marriage takes time and effort. Investing in your relationship means committing to the long haul. When challenges arise, remind yourselves that perseverance is key. Trust that the efforts you put into your marriage will pay off in the long run, even if you don't see immediate results. Bringing God into Your Marriage To truly thrive in your marriage, you must make God the center of your relationship. This involves praying together, seeking guidance from the Word, and inviting God into your everyday conversations and decisions. When you prioritize your spiritual connection, it becomes easier to navigate the challenges that arise. Many couples neglect this aspect, only turning to God when they need something. However, a proactive approach to spirituality can strengthen your bond and provide the wisdom and guidance needed to overcome obstacles.

Send us a Text Message.Welcome back after an extended break from the podcast! It is crazy to think that in just a few short weeks our oldest two kids will be going to school for the first time. It's a big change. But bigger ones will come in the future, because it is our goal to prepare them to leave. While they will always be welcome in our home, we know that one day they will go off to make their own. The exact opposite is the case with our walk with our eternal Father. Rather than the goal to be his children leaving, the goal is to bring his children home with him forever. It took a lot of preparation, but through Jesus, we now all have the opportunity to go home. #SetYourMindAbovePodcast

Welcome back to the kitchen table. This week, Bethany is joined by Gabe and Andrea Olson, the authors of The Big God Books series. As parents, we often turn to books as learning tools for life moments, helping our children gain a deeper understanding of the world. Books can teach kids about complex concepts without them having to experience everything firsthand. Bethany sits down with Gabe and Andrea to explore their series and discuss how these beautiful books bring God's work to life through tangible stories. Bethany shares her own experiences using this series as a powerful tool for conversation and as a way to validate her children's feelings. In this episode, you'll hear the real-life moments that inspired Gabe and Andrea's books and discuss the importance of using these stories as reminders of God's goodness. In a world often filled with hopelessness, these stories provide children of all ages with opportunities to talk about and understand God's miracles.   Connect with Gabe and Andrea: Gabe and Andrea Olson are small business owners, founders of Overflow Worship, authors of The Big God Books and mom and dad to three girls. They are from small town Minnesota and their mission as children's book authors is to share about the unique miracles (some big, some small) happening in everyday life.  InstagramFacebook   Purchase the Books Here    Connect with Bethany: Website Instagram Facebook

Ministers Rest | Jul 22, 2024 To truly impact our world, one must seek God's kingdom and righteousness, bringing divine order and justice to the present age. This journey involves embodying an authentic priesthood, standing in the gap for our generation, much like John the Baptist and David did in their times. Such priesthood entails earnest intercession, asking for God's will to be done on Earth as it is in heaven, fostering revival and societal transformation. Regular renewal and fresh anointing are crucial. Just as yesterday's oil won't suffice for today's challenges, each generation must seek God's current work to stay relevant and impactful. Understanding the pervasive influence of Babylon is essential; it represents the worldly systems that entangle and divide humanity. To overcome this, one must strive for spiritual unity and dismantle Babylon's grip by embracing the divine order. Living in covenant with God means prioritizing unity, selflessness, and the welfare of others. It's about understanding that we are part of the body of Christ, called to live in oneness and harmony. This covenant relationship demands that we avoid running others down, instead fostering love and support among believers. Spiritual activation involves aligning with God's will and radiating His glory. This requires deep meditation, prayer, and a commitment to embodying divine principles. As we seek to please God and live out our faith, we must aim to bring heavenly influence into earthly domains, serving as vessels for God's purposes. Ultimately, the goal is to understand our divine calling, pursue unity, and live in a way that glorifies God, bringing His kingdom and righteousness to the forefront in our lives and communities. Greg Dempster is the director of ChristLife ministries. He's married, has two boys, and has served in full-time pastoral ministry for the past 23 years. He's been a senior leader, elder, ministry director, and has played an instrumental role in developing the ChristLife experience and vision. In this podcast, Greg begins by sharing the amazing story of his own conversion to Christ as a teenager. While raised in a solidly Christian home in California, as a young teen, Greg began to wander from God. Eventually, he was pursuing a very sinful lifestyle that included immorality, psychedelic drugs and the like. But, in His incredible love and grace, God miraculously answered the fervent prayers of Greg's parents even while Greg was “tripping out” on his drugs at a California beach. That turned out to be the significant turning point in his life! Gradually, as he grew in his faith, Greg began to move toward fulltime Christian ministry. He now oversees Christlife Ministries (ChristLifeUSA.org) which ministers primarily to pastors and ministry leaders in many places around our nation and elsewhere. Folks might wonder why Christian leaders need help, but the fact is that ALL of us come with a degree of brokenness. And when pastors and ministry leaders get God's healing for their wounds, there can be such a positive ripple impact not only in their own families, but also to the many they serve in their ministries. Christlife Ministries continues daily to touch scores of lives, all for the glory of God!

Jesus Christ accomplished his saving work - through his suffering, death, and resurrection - once and for all. It's done. Nothing needs to be added to it, and nothing can be taken away from it. So, what's our role here...? We can allow that saving work to... save us... and we can help others to... allow it to save them, too. Each time that we pray the "Our Father," we ask God to bring that sanctification and salvation - to make us into the men and women whom He created us to be and to bring us to Heaven - to every person everywhere. What a joy it is to know that God wants to come into our hearts, not by force but by our choice. In this video, we'll explore the profound message from our recent video about letting Jesus into your heart. It's a simple yet life-changing concept that even an 8th grader can grasp. We'll dive into the highlights of this inspiring message and draw seven valuable lessons from it. Highlights God's Gentle Invitation: The video emphasizes the idea that God doesn't force His way into our hearts; He waits for us to welcome Him. This gentle invitation is a reminder of His love and patience. Salvation Through Confession and Belief: The video underscores the importance of confessing with our mouths and believing in our hearts that Jesus is our Lord and Savior. This simple act leads to salvation. Commissioning the Heart: Using biblical references from Proverbs and Ezekiel, the video explains how God wants to commission our hearts. When we allow Him in, He places His Spirit within us, guiding us in living a righteous life. Our Bodies as Temples: The video beautifully illustrates that our bodies become temples of the Holy Spirit when we allow God into our hearts. We take God with us wherever we go, and He's there to guide and witness everything we do. The Christian Life Requires the Holy Spirit: Without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, living a life pleasing to God can be challenging. The video highlights the Holy Spirit's role in enabling us to live a righteous life. A Change of Heart for a Changing World: The video addresses the need for a change of heart in our world. It emphasizes that true change comes from accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, which leads to respect, fear of God, and a better world. God's Perfect Creation: The video reminds us that God's world is perfect, and it's humanity's actions that have caused chaos. Bringing God back into the picture and acknowledging our need for Him can pave the way for a better future. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/gnbc/message

Rock Solid Families -  EP258 - Inviting God to School "Bringing God into our schools and homes is not about pushing an agenda, but about equipping our children with the tools to defend their faith and stand for what they believe. It's about instilling in them a strong identity and purpose in Christ, so that they can navigate the confusion and challenges of the world with confidence and hope." - Rock Solid FamiliesIn this episode of the Rock Solid Families podcast, hosts Linda and Merrill Hutchinson discuss the importance of bringing God into schools and homes. They emphasize the need for parents to help their children understand their identity and purpose in Christ, regardless of whether they attend public, Christian, or homeschool. The hosts debunk the notion that God has been pushed out of schools, highlighting the opportunities for religious activities and expressions that exist within the education system. They also encourage parents to support their children in defending their faith and standing up for their beliefs, as well as to be proactive in bringing God into their communities and schools. The hosts provide practical tips for parents, such as being cooperative with schools, initiating and supporting religious activities, and teaching children to be bold witnesses of their faith. They also stress the importance of understanding one's own faith and why it is meaningful, rather than simply going through the motions. Additionally, they remind listeners of the power of voting and influencing legislation to support religious freedom in schools. The episode concludes with a call to action for parents to take an active role in bringing God into their homes, schools, and communities, and to support positive initiatives that promote faith and values.Key Takeaways:It is important to involve God in our homes and schools to help children understand their identity and purpose in Christ.Parents should provide tools for their children to defend their faith and stand for what they believe, regardless of whether they are in public schools, Christian schools, or homeschooling.Rather than blaming schools for pushing God out, parents should focus on bringing God into their own homes and teaching their children about faith.Parents should support their children's schools and be cooperative with the staff, volunteering and getting involved in positive activities.Voting and supporting legislators who align with Christian values can help influence the presence of God in schools and society.Quotes:"Regardless if they're in the public schools, a Christian school, homeschool, we've got to help our students and our children understand what it means to have that identity and purpose in Christ." (00:53 | Linda Hutchinson) "We are seeing a resurgence of faith and hope and trust in the Lord because this world has been getting very dark, and our students are so desperate for hope that they're seeking it, they're searching for it." (08:26 | Linda Hutchinson) "If you can get them around healthy, positive community, everybody wins. And that is just what we want for our students and our families." How do we show up as followers of Jesus in our places of work? Pastor Sean challenges us to consider our skills & talents as gifts to be given to the people we interact with at our places of work. ReferencesThe end of all things is near; therefore be serious and discipline yourselves for the sake of your prayers. Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ. To him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.1 Peter 4:7-11Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.Consider him who endured such hostility against himself from sinners, so that you may not grow weary in your souls or lose heart.Hebrews 12:1-3Whatever task you must do, work as if your soul depends on it, as for the Lord and not for humans, since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you serve the Lord Christ.Colossians 3:23-24

When most people think about getting in shape and becoming “healthy”, they immediately think about their physical health: losing weight, making exercise a priority, possessing flexibility and endurance, and remaining disease free. But Scripture makes it clear that physical wellness is not the only area that impacts health. In order to be TRULY healthy, we have to focus on four areas: spiritual health, emotional health, mental health, and physical health.  This podcast dives deep into the tools and head knowledge you will need in order to create lasting results, but it also looks at the element that truly ties it all together - the heart knowledge that incorporates faith in God in this area of our lives and how to apply it when things get tough (and they will!). I wanted to create a space to let you know you are never alone on this journey. Through years of experience in doing everything the WRONG way, I am here to share my journey of getting healthy from the inside out - ditching the restriction and diet culture and truly learning to treat my body as the temple God intended it to be.  Grab a cup of coffee and join me as I discuss healthy habits to incorporate in your daily life to propel you forward and FEED YOURSELF on your journey to health in all areas: mind, body, and soul!
