Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels.  We're missing Randall this week, but Kevin & John have all sorts of video gaming goodies to discuss, so let's get right into the action! Kevin gets the ball rolling with a couple of Wii U games that he recently scooped up, as he continues to round out the games in his collection. After that, we briefly give some first impressions of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, before ultimately deciding to table the discussion until Randall is back in the mix. Finally, John closes things out with a couple of games that he's been enjoying — and having a really hard time putting down — on his PC lately.   Timestamps: Wii U: Back In Action  -  00:01:59 ↳  Star Fox Zero & Guard  -  00:02:42 ↳  Kirby and the Rainbow Curse  -  00:12:30 Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp  -  00:19:13 Roller Coaster Tycoon Classic & OpenRCT2  -  00:21:06 Rusty's Retirement  -  00:35:00   Thanks for taking the time to listen!  If you'd like to find us elsewhere on the Internet, you can find us at:

Chat Transcript: 7:01 PMCafeFoxI lived in this apartment where we had this board on the floor of my bedroom that would make a popping noise and the woman downstairs would always get p***** off whenever she would hear it 7:01 PMCafeFoxhey andrew 7:06 PMaddictedtochaosThe Wii was a little more than an original Xbox. 7:06 PMSheekagoEvening all 7:08 PMaddictedtochaosPart of me wishes I only had one shelving unit of games. 7:08 PMSheekagoNintendo, disappointing fans since the Wii days. 7:11 PMaddictedtochaosThe Wii U was the most powerful console on the market at release, would only last for a year. 7:12 PMaddictedtochaosYeah, look at Black Ops 2 running on PS3 and Wii U side by side, there is a big difference. 7:13 PMSheekagoI loved the "For everything but Wii U" videos. 7:14 PMaddictedtochaosStill impressive when considering how small the Switch actually is. 7:14 PMCafeFoxGod, has been 10 years since the WiiU came out? 7:14 PMSheekagoNintendo is greedy. "We'll make a new console, but we're not going to get cutting edge hardware. We'll loose money on it." 7:15 PMSheekagoSuper Switch Advance U 7:16 PMSheekagoI hated how everyone would say Wii U didn't have any good games. Then Switch ported them over and people love them. 7:16 PMaddictedtochaosPart of the Switch's success is due to great 3rd party support. In order to get continued support from 3rd parties the successor to the Switch will need to be at least as powerful as an Xbox Series S. 7:18 PMSheekagoFatal Frame Maiden of Black Water is a Wii U game I wanted... just not for $50. I don't want it for the other consoles. 7:18 PMCafeFoxBreath of the wild is still gonna be $60 when Tears of the Kingdom comes out 7:18 PMaddictedtochaosBreath of the Wild has at least been on sale several times. Currently $40. 7:20 PMSheekagoThere was a Dead Space on rail shooter on Wii 7:20 PMSheekagoYes, Dead Space Extraction, that's the one 7:22 PMSheekagoOff the top of my head, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Paper Mario Color Splash, Nintendoland. I don't know if there are more that didn't get ported. 7:23 PMSheekagoSome of us don't have PS cuz we broke. 7:27 PMSheekagoThat's why we have to settle for some of the lower quality games on Switch 7:28 PMSheekagoYes, improved visuals improve games. Look at Metroid Prime Remastered. 7:32 PMSheekagoNintendo: "We don't speak about Wii U." 7:34 PMSheekagoNintendo is getting really greedy. $70 for a game on a 6 year old console... Eat a richard 7:35 PMSheekagoZelda $70: Tears of the fans 7:37 PMCafeFox@sheek And from what I can tell, the game seems like its is just a big DLC upgrade to breath of the wild 7:37 PMaddictedtochaosAt least it comes with the game. The collector's edition of Horizon Forbidden West didn't come with a physical copy of the game. 7:38 PMSheekago@Cafefox someone theorized that it might be $70 because it probably has to be on a 32GB cartridge. Those cost more to make... but I'm sure digital will still be $70 7:38 PMSheekagoPaper Mario Origami King 7:39 PMaddictedtochaosThe quality of life improvements seems like they were done with Andrew in mind, lol. 7:40 PMCafeFoxWow,

Triangle Strategy Impressions This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, Cameron Daxon, Marc Kaliroff, and Campbell Gill share their thoughts on some of the biggest recent Switch releases and look ahead to the inevitable Game of the Year. Cameron and Marc kick things off by sharing their early impressions of Triangle Strategy, the latest brilliantly named HD-2D experience from Square Enix. The question soon arises: is Triangle Strategy poised to be the long-awaited spiritual successor to Final Fantasy Tactics, or is it more like the Silmarillion of the strategy genre? Its extraordinarily slow pace and exposition-heavy dialogue might make the hosts' eyelids heavy, but they hold out hope for it to pick up the tension later in the campaign. The show takes a detour to a therapy session as Campbell airs his grievances about the extraordinarily disappointing action game, Aztech Forgotten Gods. This game might have demonstrated so much potential back in its early announcement trailers, but the finished product squanders all its ambition through a dreary open world, rough combat system, and an excruciatingly heavy-handed narrative. And that's not mentioning how hideous it is on Switch–take a look at the screenshot at the bottom of this post to see the horrors for yourself, although we take no responsibility for any trauma that may ensue. After all the disappointments in the show so far, the hosts cleanse their palattes to discuss what is sure to be 2022's greatest game, Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Cameron, Marc, and Campbell sure have a mouthful of praise for the game's recent demo on Switch!   You can listen to our show on YouTube |  Stitcher | iTunes |  Podbean | Spotify | Listen Notes | iHeartRadio | Player FM | Amazon Audible   Playlist: LFXIV – NXpress Intro 00:43 – Main event: Triangle Strategy Impressions “Main Theme” – Triangle Strategy 29:30 – Indie Spotlight: Aztech Forgotten Gods Rant “Menu Theme” – Kirby and the Rainbow Curse 46:30 – Kirby and the Forgotten Land Impressions “The Rest Area” – Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

The end of August brings a fun and special episode of the Negative World Podcast! As per usual there's Joe (Ninsage) and Stephen (DrFinkelstein), but unlike the last episode, there's plenty of guests this time! Stephen drove all the way to Joe's corner of the U.S. of A. in order to record this latest episode and with him he brought Erika (EponaEatsCarrots). Joe's Wife, Amy, makes four and the quintuple is rounded out by Negative World's own Lou (TheOldManFromZelda). This episode primarily has a focus on Now Playing and general floating discussion, but all of it is wonderful! Games mentioned include, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma, Pokemon GO, Pokemon Platinum, Fable, Pokemon Yellow, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, Star Wars: Battle Pod, a Star Wars pinball machine, Cruis'n USA, WRC II Extreme, everyone's favorite Baseball games, Super Mario Maker, Road Rash 3, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse, Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, and even somehow classic dollhouses get mentioned. (Well, the mention of the Strong Museum of Play probably led that portion.) It was a ton of fun to record and I hope it's a ton of fun for you to listen to! Negative World's site owner and operator, Zero provides the intro and outro. There is no break music in this episode, but there is a brief visit from a surprise guest named Sab! The Negative World Podcast is back! We've taken an unintentional hiatus this summer as so much energy of mine is spent right now on advancing my off-line life. Joe and I hadn't much time to catch up either so we got our schedules aligned and recorded a new episode of the show! It's our shortest (main) show ever in fact at just over an hour long! In this episode you'll find that Joe (Ninsage) and Stephen (DrFinkelstein) have a grab bag of topics to discuss. To start things off they discuss Joe's recent endeavor into the world of pub trivia with other Negative Worlders. Then they discuss Video Game Vinyls for a moment. Thirdly Stephen brings up this new amiibo news regarding the Shovel Knight amiibo. After that it's a brief Now Playing segment (or more like Been Playing) where Joe has been focusing on Kirby and the Rainbow Curse primarily while Stephen is still up to his neck in ink with Splatoon. I hope we'll be able to get back to the usual podcast schedule and lengths soon enough but for now we might be seeing shorter episodes like this one. I'd also like to get the Negative World Euphonic back and running. If anyone wishes for that as well, let us know in the comments. We finish the show with a mention of the late Satoru Iwata. I had intended to make this episode an Iwata-ganza but with everything going on I haven't been able to write a show that would do him justice. So we plan to do something in remembrance soon enough but not at this time. As I just saw his name roll in the credits of the last game I beat, he will always be remembered and he'll always be warming our hearts even when he is no longer with us. There isn't any specific music in this episode but the show's theme music is, as always, from Negative World site owner and operator, Zero. Full list of episodes

Welcome back to the show everyone! We're past E3, so that means back to the usual schedule. This week Bally returns to another SNES classic, namely the original Donkey Kong Country, and seems to like it quite a bit. He also tried out a few games from the Nindies at E3 demo promotion and is particularly high on Typoman. Nbz follows up with his thoughts on Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, a title which is flawed but fun. He also beat a short Ubisoft game on PC called Grow Home which has great ideas for the future of 3D platformers. He closes out the segment with final thoughts on The Witcher 3 which is in contention for his GOTY! After the break we answer some of your e-mails (Keep sending them in!) and end the show with an E3 round up including discussion of the Treehouse live part of Nintendo's showing. Remember to send all your correspondence to our E-mail Address: ThisNintendoLife@gmail.com

The Wii U was and continues to be a great system. Unfortunately, third parties don't seem to see it that way, and even more unfortunately that's backed by sales numbers. If that's true, then this episode's going to be a laugh riot in 10 years. Honestly, we weren't even sure if this episode would even record because of various circumstances, but we're kind of glad it did so we could get some things off our collective chest. For New Business, Stephen and Donald have both fallen down the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate rabbit hole - including the dreaded mutual hunts - and their responses are pretty much what you'd expect. Donald follows up with another New 3DS showpiece in the free trial of Ironfall Invasion, followed by a dab of payola and a cheap shot at Nintendo's future plans before getting his ink on in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. Austen finally has a chance to go off on The Order: 1886, and apparently he's the only one who bought that full freight and liked it (ed. – Weekend Confirmed Alumni Jeff Cannata & Christian Spicer have my back. :P ). After quick-ish stops with the Screamride Demo and the 2nd of Resident Evil's many Revelations, it's time for a not-for-children's card game in Hand of Fate, and the 2nd part of a long discussion of Baten Kaitos Origins (continued from 52). Warning: Here be spoilers. For Whatcha Watchin', Donald finds out if they're doing phrasing anymore thanks to Archer Vice, while Stephen has been answering the immortal question of How The States Got Their Shapes. Amazingly, the History Channel produced something recently that doesn't involve aliens (we think). Austen reports on the horror and boredom of the 2015 Academy Awards, and also lets us in on if Tiger & Bunny fared better Rising than the Dark Knight. Finally, there are the obligatory DC/Marvel comic book TV minutes with Marvel's Agent Carter, The Flash, and The Arrow. With the controversial release of The Order fresh in our minds, we turned the Feature towards the dilemma of determining game value in an era of steam sales, flash sales, $20 price post-launch price drops, used games, and economic recession (and yet a time when games are cheaper than ever). The Mushrooms, well, kind of summarize why quarter 1 of 2015 should be declared non-canon as soon as is humanly possible (with maybe two or three exceptions), but also why there could be hope yet for Kickstarter. Finally, we top them off with a celebration of the late, great Leonard Nimoy, who passed away the day before recording. We promise the next episode will be much happier, especially since we'll be caught up from the backlog, so why not drop us a line so we can drive 55? You can email us (nintendofreeradio@gmail.com), tweet @NFRPodcast or drop it below. Until then, live long and prosper. This podcast was recorded on February 28, and was edited by Donald Theriault and Austen Parkin. Fear is their bacon bits.

Welcome to yet another VCR episode for 2015, and this one is quite an interesting one. While we go into this game in some considerable depth, the episode is much shorter than others but we hope you still enjoy our look at Kirby Canvas Curse, one of the more experimental of the Kirby games. Kirby Canvas Curse was arguably the first mainline Kirby game that didn't conform to the standard things you'd expect from a typical platformer. As such, we thought it was the most appropriate Kirby game to look at especially considering that a spiritual successor was released in the states just recently as Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. The team does the usual - talks about the development history (or in this case, context) for the game as well as critiques it's story, game design and presentation. To keep things mildly interesting for this very short episode, the team also talks about the Kirby series as a whole and where we see Kirby heading next. Check back next week for another traditional episode and one hell of a party!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/vooksdotnet)

ome cool jokes, solid sound effects, and a lot of chemistry in each conversation: would listen to again—8/10, or something like that. Yeah, as silly as they can be, game reviews are one of the most polarizing, yet essential elements to the culture and industry of video games today. As the medium of gaming grows, so too does the science of critiquing it for both consumer and developers alike. We here at Press Pause Radio decide to discuss this necessary evil in detail, ranging in our thoughts about the process from our fellow peers in games journalism, our very perspective on the concept of review, justifying our personal philosophy behind our very own grading system. Along the way we talk about Valentine’s Day, The New Nintendo 3DS XL, The Order 1886, Club Nintendo, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Mexican Snowboarding, Life is Strange, Avernum 2, Kirby and The Rainbow Curse, The Last Guardian, and more! Mail us at our new email Mailbag@presspauseradio.com, leave a voicemail at 469-PPR-TALK, and be sure to stop by at our Forums if you haven’t already registered and post your thoughts about the show. It's been a huge week for Nintendo and we think it shows in this episode of the Vookcast! Commemorating our 100th episode, the team looks at all of the announcements to come out of E3. The usual team of James, Steven and Daniel is joined by special guests Scott (aka Lucrei) as well as newcomer Wayne. The episode opens with a run down of the titles announced for this year - including Devil's Third, Smash Bros. for both 3DS and Wii U as well as Nintendo's ambitious new figurine line, the Amiibo range. Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2 and the surprise Bayonetta 1 port as well as Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker are discussed too! With such a busy 2014, an even busier 2015 is on the horizon too! The team discusses Zelda for Wii U, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Code Name S.T.E.A.M., Yoshi's Woolly World, Splatoon, Mario Party 10, Mario Maker, Kirby & The Rainbow Curse and Xenoblade X. But that's not all! The team also talks about Miyamoto's projects 0 including Project Giant Robot, Project Guard and the much talked about Star Fox for Wii U. Even games that weren't at the show get a mention! The team finishes the episode talking about the game that weren't shown, but we hoped were.
