What do the following styles of music have in common: Ragtime, New Wave, Dubstep, and Doo-wop? This group may seem quite divergent, but they all share a common characteristic: they are mostly types of music that no one plays much anymore. Then again, you could easily argue that these are simply sub-genres of larger categories like Jazz, Rock, Reggae and R&B, and live on in some form or another in the echoes of their sound within the broader contexts, such as they are, and here and there in all manner of newer sub-genres. And those broader contexts, those foundational genres, how are they holding up these days? Jazz has gone from ruling the airwaves, dance floors and record stores to being a mostly boutique, albeit diverse, corner of the American music map. Rock has long been declared dead, but soldiers on in bands both old and new. Reggae rose to international acclaim with Bob Marley but has not approached those heights following his untimely death. R&B may be the most robust of this small sample, with artists like The Weeknd and SZA amongst its current stars. Blues music has gone through sea changes of its own over the decades, and today, it is facing headwinds with younger audiences. As our guest Brooks Mason (known by his stage name Eddie 9V) puts it, younger music fans especially often think they will not like the blues because of its perceived predictability and reliance on old formulas. And while he is not wrong, he is also a prime example of how Blues music can garner new audiences with a new approach to the genre. Part of Eddie 9V's approach is to, as he put it, lead a band that is not really a Blues band anymore. Akiba Leisman, President and CEO of Mako Mining (TSX.V:MKO – OTCQX:MAKOF), joins us to review the record Q2 2025 financials and operations results from the San Albino Mine in Nicaragua, along with some ongoing residual leaching during the period from the recently acquired Moss Mine in Arizona.  We also unpack the anticipated mining to begin this quarter at the Moss Mine, and what to anticipate for the several months of ramp up of increased production.  Additionally, we delve into the next key steps for permitting and development work at the Eagle Mountain Gold Project in Guyana; set to be in construction in 2026 and production by H2 of 2027.   This is a longer-format interview where we get into many nuances of operations in all 3 jurisdictions.   Q2 2025 San Albino Operational Highlights 54,354 tonnes mined, containing 10,911 ounces ("oz") of gold ("Au") at an average grade of 6.24 grams per tonne ("g/t") Au and 12,491 oz of silver ("Ag") at 7.15 g/t Ag 52,705 tonnes milled containing 11,153 oz Au and 12,847 oz Ag grading 6.58 g/t Au and 7.58 g/t Ag 41% and 59% from diluted vein and historical dump and other, respectively 595tonnes per day ("tpd") milled at 97% availability, with a mill recovery of 80.3% for gold   Q2 2025 Mako Financial Highlights   Mako total gold sales of 11,476 oz Au for total revenue of $38.1 million in Q2 2025 San Albino Mine sales of 10,104 oz Au at $3,323 per ounce Moss Mine sales of 1,372 oz Au from residual leaching activities at $3,321 per ounce Delivered final 13,500 oz silver payment to Sailfish Silver Loan for a total of $0.4 million in Q2 2025 $1.5 million release of collateral at Moss Mine from Trisura Guarantee Insurance Company Cash Balance of $28.6 million as of June 30th, 2025     There is also a substantial exploration program underway all around the San Albino Project in Nicaragua, around the San Albino Mine, as the Las Conchitas concessions, and of particular interest at the El Golfo concessions.     Akiba points out that the Moss mine has been producing gold the last few month through residual leaching at its beneficiation facilities, but their team is going to start mining again this quarter, and then it will take several months for new materials moved onto the leach pads to charge up increased production again. A technical report and Pre-Feasibility Study is slated to be put out later in the year around October, after a few months of ramping up mining and assessing the resources in place. When the Moss Mine has been debottlenecked over time from a mining and permitting perspective and is producing at the grade and rate they believe is possible,  it could almost double their current production profile with approximately another 40,000 ounces of gold production per year out of Arizona.   Mako is also currently derisking their Eagle Mountain project in Guyana, and working on the next key deliverable of an agreement between the government and local stakeholders, and doing all the background environmental and engineering work to being the process for their EIA permit.  Once it is received back and a construction decision is made, there will be roughly a 1 year build, and then production is slated for Q2 of 2027 at an estimated 60,000 -65,000 ounces per year.  When this added to the production out of Nicaragua and Arizona there is clear line of sight to growing into a mid-tier gold producer.     If you have any further questions for Akiba regarding Mako Mining, then please email them into us at either Fleck@kereport.com or  Shad@kereport.com.     In full disclosure, Shad is a shareholder of Mako Mining at the time of this recording and may choose to buy or sell more shares at any time.   Click here for a summary of the recent news out of Mako Mining.

A recent story from NYC documents two slaughtered chickens that were found on an Upper West Side median, following a recent similar case close by on Broadway and West 92nd Street. The NY Post reports that this “has activists worried they were killed in an animal sacrifice ritual.” Headless goats, chickens, and pigeons have also been found in Texas and Florida, respectively Galveston beach, a Tampa cemetery, Cape Coral, the Courtney Campbell Causeway - and other locations too. Most of these cases are tied directly or indirectly to Santería, an Afro-Caribbean religious practice that developed in Cuba during the 19th century. As a mixture of Yoruba religion from West Africa, Spiritism, and even Catholicism - like Voodoo -  it involves animal sacrifices. Contrary to popular belief or personally bias belief, the US SCOTUS ruled in Church of the Lukumi Babalu Aye v. City of Hialeah (1993) that certain animal sacrifices were legal. One opinion on the case reads: “Our review confirms that the laws in question were enacted by officials who did not understand, failed to perceive, or chose to ignore the fact that their official actions violated the Nation's essential commitment to religious freedom.”It's also ironic that Catholicism, a universal religion of people who drink symbolic blood and eat symbolic flesh, is the partial basis of Santería - and Voodoo; both condemned by the largely Christian west. The Corpus Christi and Transubstantiation are based on the concept of sympathetic magic, that life itself is in the blood, and that this force belongs to God as per Deuteronomy and Leviticus. Drinking the blood bestows life, i.e., it is a medicinal remedy, though of a more spiritual variety. That is despite the Bible itself being filled with and overflowing with animal blood, from Genesis to Revelation, and the fact Christians, far more than any other group, are considered the largest consumers of pork alone, not to mention other meats. And unlike HALAL or KOSHER dietary rules, Christians have none for the slaughter of their meals. Around 100,000 cattle are slaughtered daily in the US for the luxury of meat, along with 25 million chickens and 350,000 pigs. The worst part, estimates are that approximately 1/4 of all US meat is wasted annually. What's worse, religious animal sacrifice or gluttonous animal sacrifices that go to waste? Although Christians maintain the blood and flesh rituals, many distance themselves from the idea, while the Jewish custom of Kapparot involves the slaughter of a chicken and public sins. Animal sacrifice for strictly religious purposes and in honest faith - not to mention the symbolic nature of such sacrifices as they relate to the carnal self - are one thing, but the ritualized nature of abortion and body/organ harvesting is another. In South Africa it is common for some children, especially albino ones, to be sold or kidnapped for body parts and organs. Albinos are believed to contain good fortune within their body and blood. As Daily Mail reports: “those who believe in black magic and traditional medicine claim their fair skin and eyes can bring good fortune and cure afflictions.” Be it for religious rituals, health, or profit, Planned parenthood was also doing something similar as per undercover videos and singer like Azealia Banks performed live chicken sacrifices in her closest. In the last 15 years there have been multiple stories about Chinese-made infant flesh pills being smuggled into Korea. All throughout Europe during the 16h-17th centuries, without doubt, “many Europeans, including royalty, priests and scientists, routinely ingested remedies containing human bones, blood and fat as medicine for everything from headaches to epilepsy.” And as with Countess Elizabeth Báthory, who believed the blood of young women would protect her skin, Stanford scientists have found that “old mice given infusions of blood plasma from young mice outperformed old mice who got plasma from old mice.” In the 1960s the rubella shot was manufactured with a virus grown from human fetal cells, taken from an abortion case. *The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Akiba Leisman, President and CEO of Mako Mining (TSX.V:MKO – OTCQX:MAKOF), joins me to review the Q4 and full-year 2024 financial metrics and Q1 operations results from the San Albino Mine in Nicaragua, along with some residual leaching from the recently acquired Moss Mine in Arizona.  We also unpack the anticipated mining to begin at the Moss Mine in late May, and what to anticipate for the several months of ramp up of increased production.  Additionally, we delve into the next key steps for derisking and development work at the Eagle Mountain Gold Project in Guyana to be in production there about 2 years out.   This is a longer-format interview where we get into many nuances of operations in all 3 jurisdictions.    The Company's financial results for Q4 2024 reflect record gold sales of $28.9 million, which generated $14.7 million in Mine Operating Cash Flow (1) (4), and $4.7 million in Net Income after accruing a non-current deferred tax liability of $3.2 million due to greater than expected operating income consuming a greater than expected portion of the Company's deferred tax assets. The Company sold 10,888 oz of gold at an average price of $2,670 per oz with a $1,352 All-In Sustaining Cost ("AISC") ($/oz sold).  Full-year 2024 adjusted EBITDA was US$42.2 million and earnings per share of US$0.27 from 39,001 ounces of gold sold at an average price of US$2,397/oz.   Q1 2025 San Albino Operational Highlights   48,813 tonnes mined, containing 11,495 ounces ("oz") of gold ("Au") at an average grade of 7.32 grams per tonne ("g/t") Au and 12,036 oz of silver ("Ag") at 7.67 g/t Ag 53,551 tonnes milled containing 12,228 oz Au and 12,740 oz Ag grading 7.10 g/t Au and 7.40 g/t Ag.   Q1 2025 Mako Financial Highlights   Mako total gold sales of 10,817 oz Au for total revenue of $31.5 million in Q1 2025 San Albino Mine sales of 9,881 oz at $2,898 per ounce Moss Mine sales of 936 oz Au from residual leaching activities at $2,997 per ounce (this doesn't include 605 oz Au sold in 2025 prior to the acquisition of Moss Mine) Delivered 40,500 oz of silver as part of Sailfish Silver loan for a total of $1.3 million in Q1 2025 Interest payment of $0.3 million to Wexford under the Wexford loan Tax payment of $4.0 million in cash which was already accrued in Q4 2024   Akiba points out that the Moss mine has been producing gold throughout the Bankruptcy Process through its beneficiation facilities, but their team is going to start mining again starting at the end of May and it will take several months to charge up the leach pads once again. When the Moss Mine has been debottlenecked over time and is producing at the grade and rate they believe is possible,  it could almost double their current production profile with approximately another 40,000 ounces of gold production per year in Arizona.    Mako is also currently derisking their Eagle Mountain project in Guyana, and working on the next key deliverable having started the process for their EIA permit.  Once it is received back and a construction decision is made, there will be roughly a 1 year build, and then production is slated for Q2 of 2027 at an estimated 65,000 ounces per year.  When this added to the production out of Nicaragua and Arizona there is a pathway to growing into a mid-tier gold producer.   If you have any further questions for Akiba regarding Mako Mining, then please email me at  Shad@kereport.com.   In full disclosure, Shad is a shareholder of Mako Mining at the time of this recording.   Click here for a summary of the recent news out of Mako Mining.

Episode 319: This week's split episode looks at songwriting and musicianship from two very different points of view. Toronto's Jeremie Albino is a powerful roots rock singer/writer whose early love of blues and old rock and roll comes through in his self-effacing, easy grooving songs. A call from Dan Auerbach opened up new avenues for him through the production of his late 2024 album ‘Our Time In The Sun'. Champion guitarist Tyler Grant writes his material more about stories from the history and geography of the American west, where he's been based for about 15 years. He's also set aside his twangy electric country rock for a return to the bluegrass music that brought him to national attention. His newest is a mix of instrumentals and songs but the title indicates the focal point: ‘Flatpicker.'

Lawyers for people with albinism in Tanzania say they are pleased with the ruling of the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights concerning the treatment of albinos. The case was brought against the Tanzanian government last year. The plaintiffs alleged that the country has failed to protect persons with albinism from persecution, including attacks, killings and mutilations. In its ruling, the court ordered the government to revise its laws to distinguish between traditional healers and witch doctors. The court said attacks on people with albinism are often linked to witchcraft. The court also instructed the government to establish a compensation fund for moral damages suffered by people with albinism. Michael Nyarko, deputy director of the Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa and one of the lawyers for the plaintiffs, tells VOA's James Butty, the ruling is received with optimism

Jeremie Albino will release his debut album on Nov. 1 via Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound. He’s the latest artist to sign with the prestigious label. The album’s title track, “Our Time In The Sun,” showcases an emotionally nuanced narrator pouring his soul into his music. Albino’s story began on a farm in rural Ontario. After wrangling vegetables at farmers markets in Toronto, he began busking on the city’s sidewalks before sharing stages with artists like Orville Peck, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, and JD McPherson (to name a few).
