Join video game enthusiasts Josh, Chris, Tony, Alexander and Sarah as they discuss games, entertainment, movies, and whatever Masahiro Sakurai has been up to.
Is this the end?! Sort of... Player Vs. Podcast is going on indefinite hiatus, but we've still got a great episode. In a fortunate throw back, we dive deep into the mysterious Return of the Obra Dinn (long time listeners may remember the demo was one of our favorite game of the week selections). We talk a little bit about Read Dead Redemption 2, Spider-Man, and No Man's Sky Next, and a lot about video game working conditions and the features arms race. Thanks to all our supporters over the years! You never know, we may pop up on your feed from time to time when we feel the need to talk about whatever Masahiro Sakurai has been up to. Music: “Intro” by Slime Girls, “Main Theme” from Return of the Obra Dinn Follow us on Twitter at: Josh - @hitherejosh Chris @chrsreyestweets Sarah - @SarahDLowe Ruben - @DokHoliday7
E3 predictions after the biggest announcements have already come out? You know how we do. Sarah, Josh, Chris, and Ruben talk about their E3 pipe dreams as well as Cultist Simulator, Pokemon Quest, Bloodborne, and Pandemic Legacy. We’re all over the map in this month's Out of Bounds! We cover BTS’ chart topping new album, Avengers: Infinity War, DNA testing, and karaoke. Music: “Intro” by Slime Girls, “Oxuria Memoth" by Ralp
Sarah, Chris, and Ruben kick things off with mobile games talk, some good (Florence) and some not so good (Hogwarts Mystery). Ruben gushes about God of War, eventually leading to some discussion of the rise of dedicated photo modes and capturing the perfect Kratos selfie. Out of bounds hits on Nintendo Labo (still kind of a video game), Avengers:Infinity War, and the Netflix show Aggretsuko. Music: “Intro” by Slime Girls, “Healing” by Big Bang Boom, “Chased by a Running Chupacabra” by Son of a Bit!
With more playtime behind it, Josh, Chris, and Ruben finally talk about, y'know, hunting monsters in Monster Hunter World. We get caught up in the bullet physics of Player Unknown Battlegrounds, gush about Slay the Spire and card based genre-bending, and take shots at Final Fantasy XV while being intrigued by the Pocket Edition remake. Ever play a "historical public bathroom simulator?" Check out FGOTW The Tearoom and listen to us talk untold queer history, Twitch politics, and fleshy dick-guns. Cap it all off with discussion on Black Panther, rock climbing, and hanging out with your Pops. Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "Funky Element" from www.bensound.com
We haven't played too much of it, but that doesn't stop us from talking Monster Hunter: World! Celeste gets called out as an early GOTY contender and we jump back into Horizon Zero Dawn with the Frozen Wilds DLC. Everyone has a little high school flashback with our visual novel game of the week, Butterfly Soup. Out of Bounds covers a wide range this week with talk on Devilman Crybaby, Distant Worlds, Movie Pass, and Friends at the Table. Play next episode's free game, The Tearoom. Music: Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "Echo Blues Effect" by Anonymous420
Sarah, Chris, and Ruben couldn't let the greatest year of video games (ever) pass by without comment. GOTY lists are so last year, but that doesn't them from giving props to Horizon Zero Dawn, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey. They also make resolutions to rescue PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, and NieR: Automata from the game backlog pile. In the second half, they talk Rogue One vs. The Last Jedi, Awesome Games Done Quick, and weekly livestreams from Adobe. The recommended game of the week for next time is Butterfly Soup. Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "AM2R Title" (modified) by Milton Guasti, and "Uplifting Pop" (modified) by Sounds Like An Earful
Josh, Ruben, and Sarah perform a hat trick by all playing games with a female lead. Ruben chills with his robo-pals in Horizon: Zero Dawn. Josh gets chills from the voices in his head during Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. Sarah is decidedly unchill during the jaw-clenching, finger-swiping combat in Severed. Other honorable mentions include NieR: Automata and Nex Machina. We goofed and couldn't play the FGOTW this time, but we WILL play Lost Memories Dot Net by Nina Freeman and Aaron Freedman for next time. We also binge Avatar the Last Airbender, Game of Thrones, and the graphic novel Montress in this week's Out of Bounds. Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "The Runaway" by Kronstudios
The gang is back just in time to cover this year's leaner, meaner E3 (spoiler, Nintendo won). Josh gushes about Nier: Automata, Chris feeds on chaos in Overcooked, Sarah answers the question, “what is Magikarp good for?” in Magikarp Jump, and Ruben punishes himself with more Mass Effect: Andromeda. Everyone discusses endless gratification in Sort the Court before breaking down Wonder Woman, Master of None, Terrace House, Get Out, and 70s synth music. MUSIC: “Intro" by Slime Girls, “The Unexplained” and “You Don’t Have To Walk A Begonia” by Mort Garson
Ruben reveals Sarah is his favorite PVPCaster (while Chris quietly mopes). The trio tackles Snipper Clips, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Super Hot VR, and Arizona Sunshine. Is bread inherently funny? Our FGOTW, A Day in the Life of a Slice of Bread, seems to think so. We collectively pledge allegiance to the McElroy Empire and rekindle the Rick and Morty flame. "Intro" by Slime Girls, "Palm Nights" and "Just Like Tropica-L" by Soft Powers
Josh and Chris are joined by two new members: Kasim and Ruben. The crew talks AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake), Horizon: Zero Dawn, Mass Effect: Andromeda hype, Resident Evil 7 and Zelda (our will is weak). Everyone realizes that so far 2017 has been damn good for games, what a time to be alive! After the jump we discuss Lost Constellation, a free supplemental game to Night In The Woods. We close out the show with Out of Bounds conversations on D&D, the stress of keeping up with superhero comics, K Pop fandom, and The Lego Batman Movie. Check out our next Game of the Week, A Day in the Life of a Slice of Bread. Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "Chanel" by Frank Ocean, "Who's The (Bat)Man" by Patrick Stump
We hit a milestone, the big five-oh, but keep it cool after a long hiatus. This week we gush over both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the Nintendo Switch. GOTY 2017? Josh and Chris are already calling it. Alexander doubles back to a little Witcher 3 and Civilization 6 talk. Sarah discusses Night In The Woods, which is like chatting with your friends, but they're cats (so pretty much normal life). Out of Bounds wraps up the show with Logan, La La Land, Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, and Nausicaa. Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "Hinox Battle" and "Guardian Battle" from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild OST
We have returned! Josh, Alexander, Chris, and Sarah have plenty to cover since the last episode including the cute sadness of Owlboy, the excitement (?) of base management in XCOM2, and text-based fun with Event Zero, Mystic Messenger, and Lifeline. Why get your narrative fix from books when you can chat with fictional love interests and save a tree? After the jump we discuss the daydream-like FGOTW, Sacramento. Cap it all off with some recent movie talk and a post-Halloween recap. Music: "Chamakay" and "Best To You" by Blood Orange
We didn't get enough of it last episode, so for episode 48 of Player Vs. Podcast, we talk more about INSIDE, which is quickly becoming one of our favorite games of the year. We also talk about games like DOOM, Gotta Protectors, No Man's Sky, and our free game of the week, called You Have 10 Seconds. Join us for our next episode, where we'll be talking about a free game called Sacramento! Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "Vacation" and "Easy Flight" by Crying.
Josh is back with a vengeance, kiddos! This week our "free" game (support indie game dev!) is "Solitude", so go check that out. We also talk about Pokemon Go, INSIDE, Hearthstone, Overwatch, and other games in our weekly recap. Then, for out of bounds, we talk about KS Fest, some anime series, and then some more Pokemon Go because Alexander is totally attached to that game. For next week's free game, check out Nina Freeman's new thing - Bum Rush! Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "GOT IT GOOD" and "TOGETHER" by Kaytranada.
This week it’s an E3 recap! Where’s Josh you say? Who knows! Sarah takes over hosting duties as we go through as much of the news as we can remember. Chris finally has an Oculus Rift to play with and gets to experience VR nausea first hand with EVE: Valkyrie. Alexander gives his rookie opinion on an old favorite, Hearthstone, and Sarah aims to be the mystery solving queen bee of high school in Black Closet. We all struggle our way through wall jumping in the Free Game of the Week, Windowframe. No one is too impressed by X-men Apocalypse, but we do have some podcast recommendations for you! Music: “Booty Swing” and “Clap Your Hands” by Parov Stelar
Who’s this? Alexander has returned to us?! Our fearsome foursome spends some time talking new releases with Rocket League Hoops, the Civilization 6 announcement, and Josh’s take on Uncharted 4. Sarah intrigues and confuses us with the Pocket Card Jockey demo for 3DS and Chris talks speedy RPGs with Half Minute Hero. Our GotW, Fitz Packerton, offers unique storytelling in a 5 minute bite-size. We close out the show with discussion on Captain America: Civil War and (as always) some anime and music chit chat. Music: “Somebody” and “Dear Diary” by Junglepussy
You like roguelikes, right? Because in Episode 44 you’re getting roguelikes! Josh, Sarah, and Chris dip their toes in the Dark Souls 3 pond, before diving into permadeath filled RPG mashup shenanigans in Heavy Bullets, Enter the Gungeon, and Crypt of the Necrodancer. Sarah brings up an Ikea VR experience which, while not a game per se, leads to some interesting thoughts on how we’re just moments away from entering the Matrix. Our free game of the week, Anamanaguchi’s MP3 collectathon Capsule Silence XIV, lines up perfectly with some Out of Bounds discussion on Beyonce’s recently released visual album, Lemonade. Music: “5am EST” and “PCJ” by Anamanaguchi
No more MiiFOMO for you. This week, we talk about Miitomo, Hyper Light Drifter, Samorost 3, Final Fantasy XV (the demo, at least), and our Free Game of the Week - The Great Palermo! Join us next episode by playing Capsule Silence XXIV, the new game from Anamanaguchi! Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "Vektor" by Shugo Tokumaru, and "Long Distance" by Sam Gellaitry.
Happy Jackie Robinson episode! This week, we've got special guest Kasim, who works at Square Enix and has been playing both The Division and Far Cry Primal. Then we talk about Stardew Valley, which Sarah's been playing, SUPERHOT, as well as Street Fighter V and finally, The Last Night, which was our free game of the week. Then in Out of Bounds, we talk about Zootopia and some House of Cards action. Come back for next episode, where our free game of the week will be The Great Palermo. Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "Florida" by The Range, and "Hallucinations" by DVSN
Our computers may suck (Josh's and Chris' are great though), but that doesn't mean we're not PURE GAMERS! This week: we talk Campo Santo's dramatic and thrilling FIREWATCH, the utterly terrifying Devil Daggers, Neko Atsume, Chroma Squad, and our free game of the week, Radical Rockits! Then in Out Of Bounds we cover The VVitch, Deadpool, and some anime. Come around for next episode, where our free game will be The Last Night. Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "No1 Sweeper" and "くるかな", both by Especia.
PVPCast hits the big 4-0, but we’ve got no time for a midlife crisis! Josh, Alexander, Chris, and Sarah cover a ton of games this week including Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, City Skylines, Mortal Kombat X, Fallout 4, To Be Or Not To Be: A Choose Your Own Hamlet Adventure, and Titan Souls. After the jump the gang discusses the free game of the week, Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist (apparently we’ve got a long game title theme this week). Finally we get into some Stars Wars discussion (SPOILERS), a little anime, a little comic books, and an improv tabletop game called Fiasco. Music: “Starman” and “Queen Bitch” by the late great David Bowie. RIP.
It's finally here! We discuss all our favorite games of 2015, including some that weren't actually from this year. To be honest, our lists are all over the place, but hey, isn't that part of the charm? Enjoy the suspense and surprise of a PVPCast GOTY list, and then play our free game of the week for next episode: Dr. Langeskov, the Tiger, and the Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist. See you soon! Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls
We are Homesickened this week, not because we drank too much wine (cough cough Sarah), but because that is literally the name of our free game of the week. We also played other videogames, like Magicka 2 and Panoramical and Persona 4 and the Witcher 3. As per usual, we also watched a ton of anime. For next episode, be sure to play our free game, the wonderfully titled "Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and the Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist". Please dont make me say it again. Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "City Escape" and "Pumpkin Hill" from Sonic Adventure 2
This week Josh, Chris and Sarah use the latest triple A title, Fallout 4, as grounds for discussion about the state of Metacritic and homogenous game reviews. Also, Pornhub stats. The spooky choose-your-own-adventure antics of digital Hayden Panettiere in Until Dawn lead to thoughts on endings in decision heavy games. Why not mix in a little more Undertale and MGSV for good measure! After the jump we talk about the excellent AOL Instant Messenger simulator, Emily Is Alone, and catch up on our latest anime and TV viewing. Join us next episode by playing the new free game of the week - "Homesickened"! Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "The Future Will Come" by The Juan MacLean, "Saginaw" by Julian Cubillos
In this 36th episode of Player Vs. Podcast, we've got a very special guest! Prolific videogame writer/influencer/wordfellow Jake Muncy joins us, and we all frolic into spoilerific discussion of Davey Wreden's "The Beginner's Guide." (Skip to 30:05 to jump over those spoilers) We also talk about the jrpg/bullet-hell/cutesy new game "Undertale", and get a quick overview of the new Star Wars Battlefront beta. Then, after the jump, we talk about Lucas Pope's "Unsolicited" - our free game of the week - and hop into Out of Bounds, where we talk NY Comic Con and... wait for it... ANIME! Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "Ghost Fight" by Toby Fox (From Undertale), and "The Answer" by Savages
Just what is going on in Metal Gear Solid 5, aside from the insane plot? Josh, Sarah, and Chris delve into the murky waters of genre in games. The original Legend of Zelda leads to musing on walkthroughs and Destiny serves as a spring board for games that just feel good. Not to be outdone by MGS5, the gang tries to wrap their heads around this week's free game - Sonic Dreams Collection. Also join us next episode, where we'll be talking about Lucas Pope's "Unsolicited" Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "Delorean Dynamite" by Todd Terje, and "Gold" by Chet Faker Like us on Facebook, email at PVPCastFeedback@gmail.com, and rate/review us on iTunes!
Apparently Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture - and we weren’t even invited! Josh and Sarah talk the new PS4 exclusive critical darling and compare it to another narrative heavy game, Cradle. Alexander gives his take on Arkham Knight and early impressions of Final Fantasy 14. Josh covers the irresponsible shooter Shadow Warrior and Chris goes where no bread has gone before in I Am Bread. Oh, and more Rocket League, because Rocket League. The gang tries to avoid a meltdown while discussing the GOTW, What Now?, and mentally prepares for next episode’s free game, Sonic Dreams Collection.Music: “Husbands” and “Shut Up” by Savages
PVPCast puts the pedal to the metal with two car-based games that aren’t racers, weird! Josh and Chris talk the popular new game Rocket League while Sarah brings up rush hour flash backs with Does Not Commute. Looking for something a little slower? We also talk Life Is Strange, CS:GO, 999, and Word Brain. The whole crew escapes to the woods in the soothing, fantastical game of the week: Way To Go. The episode wraps up with some anime talk, EVO recap, and two fun card games, Sushi Go! and Coup. Music: “Intro” by Slime Girls, “Race Car Ya-Yas” and “The Distance” by Cake
So how 'bout that Arkham Knight? It's not the best game out there, but we give it the ol' college try. We also chat about You Must Build a Boat, Comic Con, Smash Bros. DLC, Steven Universe, and our free game of the week-- TONIGHT YOU DIE. Join us next week--our free game'll be "Way to Go". Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "TONIGHT YOU DIE" by GRYPT, and "BODY & BLOOD" by clipping., remixed by GRYPT.
With E3 (way, way) behind us, the PVPCast team assembles to heckle and praise this year's lineup. Many #GamerFeelz ensue, including an unfettered love for Kingdom Hearts and new Final Fantasy, an eye-roll over the new Deus Ex, and a hopeful side-eye toward Horizon: Zero Dawn. Also check out our meat-slinging free game of the week, Cobra Club. Warning, this game is SUPER NSFW. Seriously, lock yourself in a closet or something before you play this. Don't forget to check out our free game for next week, "Tonight You Die"! Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "Bring It" by Cobra Starship [because cobras], and "Hurricane" by Wayward

Music: "Intro" by Slime Girls, "Sunday Candy" by Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment, and "Get Away" by Kehlani

We wrap this week up with plenty of action movie talk, covering both The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Mad Max: Fury Road. Music: Intro by Slime Girls, Wham City and Red F by Dan Deacon.
Guess who got a PS4??? Josh did, so he'll be talking about Bloodborne and The Last of Us this episode, while Chris discusses Neverending Nightmares, Sarah talks about the Stephen Universe-affiliated "Attack the Light," and we all discuss our free game of the week - "Devil's Tuning Fork." And speaking of Devils, Alexander talks some Daredevil, while we go into some crazy insane tangents during the second half. Join us next week, when our free game will be "The Writer Will Do Something." Music: Intro by Slime Girls, Ryderz by Hudson Mohawke, Heaven Sent by Best Coast.

We've also got some timely discussion this week, and devote a good chunk of the episode to discussing this new wave of "brain training" games. Verdict: Kinda gross, but kinda interesting! Kinda. Join us next episode for a discussion of "How do you do it," which can be found here: http://ninasays.so/howdoyoudoit/
It's 2015, guys. Woo. Problem is, January is such a bad month for videogames. At least last year we had Flappy Bird to talk about! In this 24th episode of Player Vs. Podcast, we devote our discussion time to some old classics and out of bounds topics, like movies and anime and television! On top of some discussion about the value of retro gaming (if there actually is any), we talk about Black Mirror, Akame Ga Kill, Oregon Trail, and a bunch of other stuff. Stick around for next week's Free Game of the Week discussion, where we'll be talking about the new game "Naut!"
