This Sunday we'll be reading through a string of confrontations Jesus experiences in Matthew 22:15-46 as we continue our study in that Gospel. It's delightful to me how Jesus is able, not only to gracefully answer his accusers, but to weave clues into his answers that reveal an overview of what God is up to.The section we'll be covering breaks down into four sections – v15-22, where Jesus is asked if it's lawful to pay a poll tax to Rome. It was an extremely loaded (even dangerous) question. His answer reveals that Jesus wasn't a political crusader – he was loyal to only One. In what way do you think we bear the image of God the way a coin bore the image of Caesar? In v23-33 Jesus is approached by the Sadducees who rejected the notion of a resurrection at the end of the age (we'll go into why on Sunday). They pose a riddle meant, in their minds, to highlight the absurdity of resurrection. V 32 sums up Jesus' unassailable response. What do you think his point is, that God is the God of the living, not the dead? The famous confrontation about the greatest commandment is found in v33-40. Why do you think Jesus said that the entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on the two commandments to love God and our neighbor as ourself? How would love be the main component of all that the law of Moses required? Finally, Jesus turns the tables and asks them a question in v41-46, about the existential nature of the Messiah. We'll go into what Jesus was getting at, and we'll see how it actually brackets the whole section by subtly pointing back to the image of Caesar on the coin.I think this will be an encouraging section to dig into. I hope you can join us this Sunday as we do!Click here for a pdf of the teaching slideshow.

Segment 2 • What is Israel biblically—a state, a religion, or something far more concrete and ongoing? • Israel is defined as ethnic, national, and territorial—raising uncomfortable implications for modern debates • If Israel spans generations regardless of belief, what does that mean for today's largely secular Jewish population? Segment 3 • Does the modern state of Israel actually matter in God's overarching redemptive plan? • Even without a political state, Israel would still be central to God's purposes. • Cultural Jews, secular Jews, religious Jews—these are outward markers that don't change the Bible's view of who they really are. Segment 4 • Are Christians required to support Israel politically—or is that a dangerous oversimplification? • Israel's existence doesn't equal spiritual restoration—so what should believers actually affirm? • Romans 9–11 raises a divine mystery: Israel is in unbelief, and yet part of God's plan. ___ Thanks for listening! The Book of Judges presents us with one of the most challenging and uncomfortable narratives in Scripture—a 300-year descent into spiritual chaos that reveals both the devastating consequences of compromise and the unwavering faithfulness of God's covenant love. We're invited into a story that functions like a trapeze artist missing their catch, falling through the air with mounting dread. What makes Judges so powerful is its brutal honesty about the human condition: we see Israel starting with good intentions, asking God what to do, but then making small compromises that spiral into catastrophic failure. The pattern is relentless—apostasy, oppression, crying out to God, deliverance through flawed judges, and then falling even deeper into sin with each cycle. Like a screw turning deeper into wood with each rotation, Israel doesn't reset to zero after each deliverance; they sink further into Canaanite practices until they become indistinguishable from the very people they were meant to displace. The book's haunting refrain—'everyone did what was right in their own eyes'—exposes the core issue: trusting our own sight rather than God's word. Yet even in this darkness, we discover profound hope. God never breaks His covenant. He raises up deliverers, however flawed, who point us toward our ultimate need for a perfect Savior. Judges prophetically prepares us for Jesus, showing us that we cannot save ourselves and that only through Christ can we conquer the spiritual darkness that threatens to consume us.ChaptersChapter 1: Introduction: The Book of Judges and God's Redemptive Plan0:00 - 9:07We are introduced to the book of Judges as a difficult, R-rated journey through Israel's downward spiral into depravity, set within God's larger redemptive story from Genesis to Revelation.Chapter 2: The Conquest and the Spiritual Battle9:07 - 17:00We examine how God's conquest of Canaan was primarily about cleansing spiritual evil and establishing His presence, not merely destroying people, and how God welcomed anyone who would turn from false gods to Him.Chapter 3: The Sin Cycle and Downward Progression17:00 - 25:40We learn about the repeating sin cycle in Judges where Israel falls into apostasy, faces oppression, cries out, and receives a judge, but with each cycle they sink deeper into sin rather than returning to their starting point.Chapter 4: Judges Chapter 1: The Geography of Compromise25:40 - 42:20We walk through Judges chapter 1, observing how Israel's obedience deteriorates as we move geographically north, with initial victories in Judah giving way to compromise, economic reasoning, and eventual oppression in the northern tribes.Chapter 5: The Consequences of Disobedience and Our Need for a Savior42:20 - 54:24We see God's judgment at Bochim where He declares the conquest over due to Israel's disobedience, and we learn how this points us to our need for Jesus as the true Savior who conquers what we cannot.

* You can get the sermon note sheet at: https://family-bible-church.org/2026Messages/26Mar29.pdf * This Sunday is generally referred to as "Palm Sunday." It is the day the global church recalls and celebrates "The Triumphal Entry" of the Messiah - Jesus - into the city of Jerusalem. This coming week has traditionally been referred to as "The Passion Week." While we understand the word "passion" to refer to a strong or powerful emotion or lust; however, it actually comes from the Latin word "passio" which means "to suffer." So, literally, this is the week of "Christ's Suffering." * Biblically speaking, this week is the week of the prophetic fulfillment of the three spring feasts: Passover, Unleavened Bread, and First-fruits. Each of these feasts pointed to Christ and the consummation of YHWH's Redemptive Plan in the 1st Coming of Christ. (* As an aside, the next feast: The Feast of Weeks - or Pentecost - pointed to the giving of the Law and the giving of Grace. The final three feasts - Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and the Feast of Tabernacles - all point toward Christ's 2nd coming and millennial reign on earth. *) * Today, we recall that two thousand years ago Jesus fulfilled prophetic signs which were proclaimed three thousand three hundred years ago! * Our goal for this week and next Sunday is to consider Christ's Fulfillment of the three Spring Feasts. Today, we will consider Christ as the Passover Lamb. * This message was presented by Bob Corbin on March 29, 2026 at Family Bible Church in Martinez, Georgia.

* You can get the sermon note sheet at: https://family-bible-church.org/2025Messages/25Dec28.pdf * We have seen that Jesus came to establish a "New and Living" Way into the Presence of God. Through the sacrificial death of the Messiah, we can - by faith - come openly and with confidence into YHWH's presence knowing that this is the fulfillment of His Redemptive Plan. * The author of the book of Hebrews then chastened and exhorted the Messianic Jews to not be deceived into thinking that they needed to turn back to the Law. If they did so, they would be trampling the sacrifice of the Messiah and placing their confidence in their ability to "work" for their salvation. * He quoted the prophet Habakkuk, declaring: "The just shall live by faith." * He now transitions into a discussion of what faith is and what it looks like. He, again, reveals that this Redemptive Plan of God spans from Creation through his current day. * Lord willing, we will be spending the next four weeks considering this marvelous chapter. Today, we begin by considering the Foundation and Focus of Faith. * This message was presented by Bob Corbin on December 28, 2025 at Family Bible Church in Martinez, Georgia.

No longer do we need to be focused upon the works of the Law, but we can experience perfect rest, and peace with God, because of the righteousness of the Messiah. * Today, we begin to see what the "rest" of Christ looks like practically in the life of a believer. * This message was presented by Bob Corbin on December 14, 2025 at Family Bible Church in Martinez, Georgia.

The author of the book has been building to this point using various Jewish themes to reveal the deity of the Messiah, His role at bringing the ultimate "rest" which was not given through Moses or Joshua. It was the Messiah's role to come and establish the New Covenant declared by Jeremiah by offering Himself as the Ultimate Propitiatory Sacrifice for sins. * To fully understand what the consummation of eternal redemption would look like to the Jewish people, we need to understand the complexity of the sacrificial system and the progressive nature of redemptive covenants. This Redemptive Plan was something that God initiated before He formed the foundations of the world! * Today, Lord willing, we will consider the Progression of the Redemptive Plan (as revealed through the Sacrificial System, the Covenants, and Scripture) and the Presentation of the Ultimate Sacrifice. * This message was presented by Bob Corbin on December 7, 2025 at Family Bible Church in Martinez, Georgia.

In this message, we look at the story of Saul—the man who looked like everything Israel wanted in a king. He was tall, strong, impressive, and came from a wealthy family. But beneath the surface, his heart was already being eaten away by hidden flaws—spiritual neglect, insecurity, pride, and disobedience. Through Saul's story in 1 Samuel 9, we learn a sobering truth: it's not the big failures that destroy us, but the small compromises we ignore. Like termites behind a wall, little sins—small lies, pride, laziness, selfishness—slowly hollow out our spiritual foundation until everything collapses. This lesson challenges us to “sweat the small stuff”—to pay attention to the subtle warnings, the quiet compromises, the habits and attitudes that weaken our walk with God. It's a call to humility, repentance, and spiritual awareness before it's too late. God doesn't want us standing in the ruins of what could have been. He wants to rebuild us from the inside out. When we face our hidden sins and let Him restore us, what once was rotting can become new again.

What truly makes people change? Is it a life event, a motivational moment, or something deeper? In this message from 1 Samuel 3, we explore one of the most pivotal moments in Israel's history—the calling of Samuel—and uncover a timeless truth about transformation that still speaks today. At a time when “the word of the Lord was rare,” Israel had grown spiritually blind. Eli, the high priest, and his sons had corrupted their sacred calling, and God's voice had grown silent. But into this silence, God calls a young boy named Samuel—a boy who didn't yet know the Lord but was ready to listen. Through Samuel's story, we see how renewal begins when someone chooses to hear and obey God's Word. As the Lord calls Samuel by name again and again, the boy learns that change doesn't come from emotion, environment, or effort—it comes from revelation. It's the moment when the heart says, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” From that day forward, God's Word—once rare—became constant and alive through Samuel's life, marking the beginning of a new era for Israel. This message reminds us that true spiritual change doesn't start with self-improvement but with surrender. When the Word of God becomes present and consistent in your life, everything begins to shift. If the Word is rare, transformation will be rare—but when it's central, you'll see God reshape your heart, your home, and your future.

In this message from The Ministry of God's Promise series, we turn to 1 Samuel 8, where Israel makes a fateful request: “Give us a king.” What seems like a practical solution is actually a spiritual rejection of God's leadership. Through Samuel's story, we discover how easily people trade divine guidance for human control—and how God, in His mercy, still works through our wrong choices to reveal our deeper need for Him. This lesson takes us on a sweeping journey through Israel's history—from the Judges to the Kings, the Prophets, and ultimately to Jesus Christ, the true and eternal King. We explore how every era in the Bible follows the same pattern: faith, decline, judgment, and renewal. The message is clear—human systems can't save us; only God can. Who is really on the throne of your life—self or Christ? Are we trusting God's perfect will, or settling for our own plans? Drawing from Jesus' words in Matthew 6:33, we're reminded that when we seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, God promises to take care of everything else. This is more than a history lesson—it's a call to trust God over culture, fear, and self-reliance. Whether you're new to the Bible or have studied it for years, this teaching offers both practical and spiritual depth on what it means to live under the loving reign of Christ.

The book of Ruth may be only four short chapters, but it carries one of the most powerful and hope-filled stories in the entire Bible. Set during the dark and chaotic era of the Judges, Ruth's story begins with famine, loss, and bitterness—but it ends with redemption, joy, and the promise of a King. In this sermon, we journey through the entire book of Ruth. We begin with Naomi, a grieving widow who believes her life has been emptied by God. We meet Ruth, a foreigner from Moab, who makes a radical decision of faith: to leave her homeland, her family, and her gods behind to follow Naomi and worship the God of Israel. Her words—“Your people will be my people, and your God my God”—become a defining moment of loyalty and trust. What follows is a story of divine providence woven through ordinary events. Ruth “just happens” to glean in the field of Boaz, a man of noble character and a relative of Naomi's late husband. In Boaz, we see both kindness and strength as he steps into the role of kinsman-redeemer, protecting Ruth and securing a future for Naomi's family. What looks like chance is really God's careful orchestration. This lesson reminds us that no life is too small, no decision too ordinary, and no circumstance too bleak for God to use in His redemptive plan. The book of Ruth teaches us that behind every step of obedience, every act of loyalty, and every risk of faith lies the possibility of God writing a much bigger story than we could ever imagine. If you've ever wondered how God can work through your everyday struggles, disappointments, and choices, this story is for you. Ruth's journey shows us that God's providence is at work in famine and in fullness, in tragedy and in joy, and that He is still weaving our ordinary lives into His extraordinary plan of redemption.

Text:  Genesis 4:1-26   The Righteous Attitude of Worshipping God (Genesis 4:1-4) God graciously provides Adam and Eve with two sons: Cain and Abel. Abel is portrayed as the one who brought an acceptable offering to the Lord with the right heart attitude. In the New Testament, Abel's offering and his actions toward God are declared as righteous (Hebrews 11:4; 1 John 3:12b).   The Ruinous Outcome of Worshipping Self (Genesis 4:3, 5-24) Cain worshipped God on his terms with a selfish attitude of pride. Cain's angry response to God's correction and murder revealed his worship of self. God's warning and condemnation was also mingled with grace. In the New Testament, “the way of Cain” is portrayed as a pursuit of personal gain marked by evil (Jude 11; 1 John 3:12a).   The Redemptive Plan of Our Sovereign God (Genesis 4:25-26) Even in the midst of murder and revenge, God's plan to save His people cannot be thwarted. God appoints the line of Seth for the Messiah to come and call true worshippers to Himself. Consider Christ, “the mediator of the new covenant,” who atoned for our sin with His own blood (Hebrews 12:24).

In Isaiah 42 and 49, the first two "Servant Songs," we see two primary goals of Jesus as the Messiah that motivate and encourage Him to overcome difficulties. Jesus' mission involved overcoming obstacles to bring God's justice and salvation to the nations. Jesus' strength and perseverance were rooted in the Spirit, enabling Him to confront injustice without despair and bring the light of salvation to Israel and the world.Application QuestionsIn what areas of your life are you encountering injustice? How are you responding? What encouragement can you gain from meditating on how Jesus the Messiah encountered the opposition He faced? Why do you think justice is important to the Spirit of God?When you grow weary, do you find strength in the gospel? Are you struggling with despair or depression? Will you bring your burdens to a Suffering Servant who knows how to minister to you in your weakness? Will you recommit yourself to the mission of Jesus – the proclamation of His glorious gospel of salvation? ★ Support this podcast ★

In Genesis 3:15, the bible refers to an ongoing conflict where God declares enmity between the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman. Lori dives deep into the concept of the "seed war," a spiritual warfare that stretches across the entire biblical narrative, involving the spiritual realm, fallen angels, and the powerful victory of Jesus. This conversation unearths lesser-known biblical stories, including the supernatural events around the Divine Council, Tower of Babel, Nephilim, and the redemptive plan of God.This episode is crucial for those seeking to connect the dots between biblical history, spiritual warfare, and the authority believers have from Jesus Christ. Nothing happens down here without it happening in the spiritual first. And like I was saying, we have to combat that. That's why we pray. That's why we're able to change atmospheres with prayers.”[22:05] The Fallen Angels in the Spiritual WarfareGenesis 6 explains the fallen angels' interactions with human women resulting in the birth of the Nephilim.Historical texts such as Enoch and Josephus provide additional context and support for the biblical narrative. The discussion explores the hybrid nature of the Nephilim and their supernatural abilities. The spiritual warfare that ensued was a result of these events. The fallen angels' evil intentions fueled this ongoing conflict.[35:40] The Flood and Its AftermathActing as a divine intervention, the flood cleansed the earth of the Nephilim and their evil influence. The creation of demons from the spirits of the fallen Nephilim highlights the emergence of a new spiritual realm.Evidence of the flood, such as fossils and petrified remains, is also discussed to illustrate its impact on the earth.Grasping these supernatural events is crucial for understanding the full scope of the biblical narrative.[51:31] The Tower of Babel and Its SymbolismLori elaborates on the story of the Tower of Babel, explaining the significance of the ziggurat's construction.Old writings, such as those of Flavius Josephus, provide insight into the motivations behind building the tower. The tower symbolizes humanity's attempt to reach the divine without relying on God.Lori connects this story to the broader theme of the seed war and the ongoing spiritual struggle between good and evil.[1:01:08] The Role of the Divine Council and Deuteronomy 32God delegated authority to angels to govern the nations.Deuteronomy 32 highlights the roles these divine beings played in the Old Testament.Recognizing the role of the divine council is essential for understanding the larger biblical narrative.[01:05:46] Lori: “ God stands in the congregation of the mighty. He judges among the gods. How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? … And then verse six says, I said, ‘You are gods, and all of you are children of the Most High, but you shall die like men and fall like one of the princes.'”[1:07:55] The Redemptive Plan of JesusJesus reclaimed dominion over the earth, defeating the powers and principalities that once ruled the nations. His actions at significant locations, such as Mount Hermon, and their profound impact on the spiritual realm.Understanding the significance of Jesus' victory over the enemy is crucial for believers.Lori encourages believers to exercise their God-given authority and dominion in the world today.[01:19:30] Lori: “ Jesus literally has conquered it all. He took everything back that the enemy stole, and so the entire ministry of Jesus was not only to bring the kingdom, but to destroy the works of the devil, it's to break the chains and the strongholds that hold us captive in sin, because his authority demonstrated a power over both the physical and the spiritual worlds, and that's what he gives us.”About LoriLori Brazier is a devoted follower of Christ, wife, and mother who balances her faith with a dual career in interior design and writing. We're concluding Paul's assertions that God has, in no way, rejected his chosen people Israel. From this, we know that he will not reject us either! But this shouldn't make us complacent or arrogant - rather we should grow in humility and the fear of the Lord (which isn't being afraid of him hurting us, but a combination of awe and intimacy with him).

In this episode, Caleb is joined by guest Oren Martin (PhD, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) to discuss a biblical theology of the land promise via Dr. Martin's book Bound for the Promised Land: The Land Promise in God's Redemptive Plan. Together, they discuss how, within the redemptive-historical framework of God's unfolding plan, the land promise advances the place of the kingdom that was lost in Eden. This promise also serves as a type throughout Israel's history that anticipates the even greater land, prepared for all of God's people, that will result from the person and work of Christ and that will be enjoyed in the new creation for eternity.
