John 4:1-15FIVE PRINCIPLES FOR SPIRITUAL CONVERSATIONSTRANSITION:“From Jesus' conversation with the Samaritan woman, I want to give you five practical principles that you can use THIS WEEKPRINCIPLE #1: START WHERE THEY ARE“Notice how Jesus begins. He doesn't launch into a sermon. He doesn't hand her a tract. He asks for a drink of water!John 4:7 Jesus started with something natural, something she could relate to. He met her at her point of need—she had water, He was thirsty.Start conversations where people already are. Talk about their job, their family, their struggles, their interests. Find common ground.1 Corinthians 9:22Don't be weird. Don't be pushy. Just be HUMAN. Build a bridge through genuine interest and conversation.”“Ask questions! People love talking about themselves. ‘How's your family?' ‘What do you do for work?' How were you raised spiritually ‘How are you handling all the stress in the world right now?'PRINCIPLE #2: CREATE CURIOSITY“Once Jesus has her attention, watch what He does:John 4:10He didn't force the conversation. He INTRIGUED her. He made her curious. She had to ask, ‘What are you talking about? What is this living water?'You don't have to explain the entire gospel in 30 seconds. You don't have to argue or debate. Just create curiosity.Share your story in a way that makes people want to know more.Tell story about Charlene 1 Peter 3:15Did you catch that? WHEN they ask. Create curiosity, and they'll ASK!”PRINCIPLE #3: GO FROM PHYSICAL TO SPIRITUALJesus is a master at this. He takes something physical—water—and turns it into something spiritual.John 4:13-14 He's saying, ‘You're focused on physical water, but I'm offering you something that satisfies your SOUL.'Listen for spiritual hunger underneath physical conversations.Someone says, ‘I'm so stressed at work.' → You can say, ‘I used to feel that way until I found peace in my relationship with God.'Someone says, ‘I'm so lonely.' → You can say, ‘I've learned that only God can fill that hole in our hearts.'Someone says, ‘I feel like my life has no purpose.' → You can say, ‘That's exactly how I felt before I discovered God's plan for my life.'Every physical need points to a deeper spiritual need. Jesus knew that. And He gently moved the conversation from surface level to soul level.”PRINCIPLE #4: BE HONEST ABOUT SIN—BUT WITH COMPASSION“This is where a lot of Christians mess up. We either avoid talking about sin altogether, or we come across as judgmental and harsh.Talk about your struggle with sin… Some of the peace and victory you have seen."Your mess can become your message, and your test can become your testimony."Watch how Jesus handles it:John 4:16-18Jesus is DIRECT. He doesn't sugarcoat her sin. But notice His tone—He's not condemning her. He's revealing her need for a Savior.Don't avoid talking about sin, but speak the truth in LOVE.Ephesians 4:15“Here's the secret: Jesus didn't bring up her sin to SHAME her—He brought it up to SHOW her she needed the living water only HE could provide. When you talk about sin, always point to the SOLUTION: Jesus.”PRINCIPLE #5: MAKE IT PERSONAL—REVEAL JESUS“The woman keeps trying to make the conversation theoretical. She wants to debate theology and argue about where to worship. But Jesus brings it back to HIM:John 4:25-26Boom. There it is. ‘I'm the one you're looking for. I'm the answer to your search.'At some point in the conversation, you have to make it about JESUS.Not religion. Not church. Not rules. JESUS.Acts 4:12 “Your testimony is powerful. Tell them what Jesus has done in YOUR life. Not in a preachy way, but in a personal, authentic way.‘Let me tell you how Jesus gave me purpose when I felt worthless.'‘Let me tell you how Jesus forgave me when I thought I was too far gone.'Revelation 12:11 says we overcome ‘by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of [our] testimony.'”
In this episode of The Mountain Podcast, Samuel Goulet continues on week 5 on the theme of “Design & Purpose,” emphasizing that every believer is made to share Christ with others. Drawing from 2 Corinthians 5:11–21, he explains that receiving Christ naturally leads to giving Christ, and that the love of Jesus should be the controlling force in our lives, freeing us from fear, resentment, and selfishness. Samuel outlines five practical ways to live out this calling—intercession, evangelism, counsel, edification, and restoration—encouraging listeners to be active ministers of reconciliation, to build up and restore others, and to let the love of Christ mobilize them to serve and impact those around them.
Halloween doesn’t have to be a night of fear—it can be a night of faith in action. Rooted in Matthew 5:16, this devotional reminds believers that even on the darkest day of the year, God’s light shines brightest through us. Instead of retreating, Christians can use Halloween as a powerful opportunity to connect, protect, and share Christ’s love with their neighbors. Whether through simple acts of kindness, offering a safe space, or handing out a message of hope, we can turn Halloween into a day of light. Highlights Transform Halloween from a day of darkness into one of redemptive mission and community connection. Designate your home as a safe house where children can find refuge and kindness amid the chaos. Share the Gospel naturally by including tracts or church invite cards with candy. Host a bonfire or neighborhood gathering to build relationships and spark meaningful faith conversations. Use Halloween as an opportunity to demonstrate God’s love and create a welcoming, light-filled atmosphere. Remember: when we shine Christ’s light, even the darkest night can point others to the hope of the Gospel. Join the Conversation How do you plan to shine your light this Halloween? I think it's hard as American Christians to understand what it means to suffer for Christ. Our suffering for the most part is not physical. But if we live for Christ, we will experience persecution. So, what should our response to persecution be?

Episode Summary. Often Christians think of evangelism like this: It is having the courage to overcome every piece of emotional intelligence we've learned about relationships, and intruding into the life of a co-worker, neighbor, or stranger to tell someone, who doesn't want to hear it, the gospel message that they are a sinner in need of a savior, and then being willing to suffer rejection if we are accused of being preachy. If that is what sharing our faith looks like, who would want to do it? But this view is NOT BIBLICAL. It has major flaws. This episode identifies these flaws and ends up showing a biblical view of sharing our faith that is winsome and begins where people are instead of where we want them to be.For Further Prayerful Thought:Why is it misleading to understand the Greek word for evangelism(EUANGELIZO) to mean preaching the gospel to others? How does understanding the four-chapter gospel help us realize that Christ's kingdom power is for more than just an eternal life insurance policy? Can you think of biblical examples not mentioned in this episode of Jesus tailoring the good news of the kingdom to the point of brokenness being felt by his listener? For the printed version of this message click here. For a summary of topics addressed by podcast series, click here. For FREE downloadable studies on men's issues click here.To make an online contribution to enable others to hear about the podcast: (Click link and scroll down to bottom left)

Peter again reminds that suffering, fiery trial, is expected and normal in the Christian experience. Sharing Christ's sufferings is a privilege that is to be welcomed with rejoicing, while suffering as an evildoer is shameful. Our behavior in this life gives indication of our eternal outcome. Judgment begins at the household of God so, if the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner? Peter concludes that Christians, suffering while doing good, are to continually entrust their souls to a faithful creator.

Called to Compassion: Sharing Christ's Message Through Deeds In the last several days' readings, we hear about the prophecies . . . . . . which foretell that the blind will see, the mute will speak, the crippled will walk, and the deaf will hear. These miracles have been the focus of this week's readings, and in the Gospel, we see Jesus fulfilling these promises. He restores sight to the blind, enables the mute to speak, feeds the hungry, and heals the crippled. Similarly, the words of Prophet Isaiah assure us that those who weep will no longer mourn, and the Lord will provide bread, water, and guidance for His people. In the Gospel, Jesus moves among the people, doing good, healing the sick, and proclaiming the Kingdom of God. This fulfillment of prophecy affirms that Jesus is the promised Messiah. He is the one foretold by the prophets, the one we are called to trust. There is no other. Only He can provide what we truly need in life. Jesus Wants to Help Us The Gospel also reveals Jesus' compassionate heart. He sees the troubled and distressed, likening them to sheep without a shepherd, and He cares deeply. Unlike others who may ignore or dismiss our problems, Jesus takes our struggles personally. He wants to help, heal, and bring peace. If we trust Jesus, we will understand the depth of His love and care. He restores us and gives us new life. Seeing the need for guidance and care, He tells His disciples that the harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few. He urges them to pray for more laborers and sends them out to show compassion, heal the sick, and proclaim that the Kingdom of God is nearby. As Christians, we are called to live out this message. Our lives and actions should reflect the nearness of God's Kingdom. Jesus sends us not only to preach but also to heal, encourage, and bring hope to the hopeless. We all face struggles, whether they stem from health issues, financial concerns, or the weight of our past mistakes. Often, memories of harm we've caused or betrayals we've committed make us feel helpless. But Jesus calls us to bring these burdens to Him. He offers hope and restoration, empowering us to share this hope with others. Through Our Deeds . . . As Saint Francis of Assisi famously said, “Preach at all times; if necessary, use words.” While words have power, it is through our deeds that we truly embody the message of Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:11-17
Until Acts 4, the beginning of the church experienced miraculous success. People joined the church daily, shared what they had with one another, and gained more and more favor with outsiders. But in Acts 4, all of that changes. Suddenly confronted with the gospel truth, Jewish leaders give in to their anxiety and start harassing the disciples. Peter and John are forced into court, interrogated, and threatened. But instead of toning down their message, they get bolder. Peter remains a stable non-anxious presence amidst the fear of the culture around him. Our culture is much the same today. And like Peter we also have a choice; we can either tone down our message, or get bolder in proclaiming it. By reminding ourselves that Christ is our cornerstone, we too can remain non-anxious and continue spreading the good news with those around us.
