Blahtee who in spite of battling a chronic disease, (Sickle Cell Anaemia) , relentlessly pursued God and his passion for music. He was a renowned music industry executive in Southern Africa, playing a role in the careers of notable music artists including Janet Manyowa, Everton Mlalazi, Chley , Mr Kamera, Sha Sha and more . Blahtee unfortunately passed away on 20 August 2024.This episode is in loving memory of him. We also play some of Blahtee's music with Heavens language at the end of the episode Radiant Culture

On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got a pair of songwriters who broke out in the ‘90s and early 2000s and have had fruitful careers since—and who happen to be old pals—Ben Kweller and Brendan Benson. As you'll hear in this chat, Kweller got his rock life started early, learning guitar as a teenager and hustling hard for gigs in the small Texas town where he grew up. His first band, Radish, got a big record deal while Kweller was still a kid, and while they never exactly blew up, there's definitely some love out there for the band's early records. Kweller went solo in the early 2000s with the classic album Sha Sha, which was an early release on Dave Matthews' record label ATO—and which last year got the deluxe anniversary reissue treatment. He's had a run of great solo records since, and was in a supergroup called The Bens with Ben Folds and Ben Lee. He also started a music collective called The Noise Company, which is a sort of hybrid studio/management/record label. They're having a big blowout at this year's South by Southwest, so if you're down there, it's at the Mohawk on March 15. Check out a little bit of a great Kweller song right here, “American Cigarettes.” Brendan Benson, as you'll hear in this chat, is a bit older than Kweller, but he's had a similarly remarkable career. Benson's debut solo album came out back in 1996, but if you're looking for a place to start with his driving rock songs, check out 2002's Lapalco. Benson has eight solo albums to his credit, including 2002's Low Key, but he might be best known as the co-frontman of The Raconteurs, along with his old friend, bandmate, and Detroit-area native Jack White. Check out a great Benson track for earlier days right here, “What I'm Looking For,” and catch him at the Noise Company showcase this weekend as well. These two old pals sound delighted to be chatting, and they jump right into an unplanned episode of Car Talk—Kweller, as it turns out, might get himself a Tesla Cybertruck. They also talk a lot of the spark of creativity that led them to their chosen careers, and they each mention the embarrassing first songs they ever wrote. Kweller tells a great story about hearing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” for the first time as well, and Benson admits that The Three Stooges have had a huge influence on how he harmonizes. Enjoy. V Ljubljani vodi turistično agencijo, dvakrat na leto obišče Kitajsko, kjer neznansko uživa v karaokah. Pravi, da če si v Sloveniji zaželi kitajsko hrano, mora v restavracijo poklicati kak dan prej, da ji pripravijo pravo kitajsko hrano, saj je ta po večini prilagojena okusu Evropejcev. Rodila se je v času politike enega otroka, zdaj pa pravi, da na Kitajskem rodnost upada, tudi poroke so vse redkejše, nepremičnine pa bistveno dražje kot tu. Ljubljana ji je všeč, ker je vse na dosegu roke, naš način življenja pa omogoča kakovostno druženje z otroki.

Her new book A Boy from Baghdad (Green Bean Books, 2024), tells the story for children the first time in English, of the exile of the Iraqi Jewish community 1949-1951 to Israel and their subsequent difficulties in the Promised Land. The book was inspired by Miriam's husband's family who are all Babylonian Jews born in Baghdad. About the book:  It's 1951, and twelve-year-old Salman Shasha is happy with his life in Baghdad. But trouble is brewing. Salman and his family are Iraqi Jews and their government has been turning against their community for years. Things become so dangerous that the whole family are forced to leave Iraq for Israel, the "Promised Land". Once they arrive, however, they realize that things are not what they dreamed they would be. Taken to a refugee camp, the Shasha family try to make the best of their situation. But the dominant group in the country - the Ashkenazi Jews - look down on families like Salman's and treat them horribly. Facing taunts from his bullying peers, Salman feels defeated, but he soon realizes that with hard work and determination anything is possible. Jeremy Sherman is a Ph.D. in evolutionary epistemology. He describes himself as a cradle-to-grave science researcher studying the unbroken chain, from the origins of life to humankind's grave situation today. He has written over 1,000 articles for Psychology Today's 9 million readers on everyday practicalities. Jeremy also lived for 7 years in an eco-village commune in Tennessee known as “The Farm”, where its 1400 residents elected him to a leadership role at just 24 years old. For the past 25 years, he has been a close research collaborator with Harvard and Berkeley neuroscientist Terrence Deacon. Jeremy says he's all about making advanced ideas intuitive, practical, and funny because from a natural science perspective, the human condition is pretty ironic. His latest book is called "What's up with Assholes? Advanced Psycho-Proctology For Beginners” Jeremy joins Rachel to share his unique insights into narcissistic leaders, the social and psychological dynamics of the high control groups they run, and the effect their pathologies have on followers. Jeremy offers his perspective of cultic dynamics through the lens of his field of evolutionary epistemology comparing notes with Rachel as she notices corresponding findings from her experience working with cult survivors. Andrew Pledger is a religious trauma survivor who was raised in fundamentalist Christianity. He has been homeschooled his entire life for the purpose of indoctrination. His parents would only pay for a Christian university, and he chose Bob Jones University. Andrew kept his sexuality a secret until his mental health declined due to repressing emotions, sexuality, and religious trauma. For his last year of college, he created a photo series that depicted religious trauma. To bring awareness to religious trauma; he appeared on Josh Harris's IGTV show to talk about his photo series. Bob Jones was made aware of the video, and he was expelled the last semester of his college career. These experiences have inspired him to pursue psychology to help religious trauma survivors. Jesse Singal was instrumental in shining a light on the defamation of Dr. Ken Zucker in 2016. Journalism allows Jesse to follow a subject to the core of an issue. Before Jesse became known for his Atlantic piece, he was already interested in psychology fads. Stella enjoys self-help books. In his new book, The Quick Fix, Jesse argues that Americans turn to fad psychology because the real problems are too big to be solved. Researchers have been known to give credence to work that does not warrant it. Bad journalism abounds and Jesse often follows up bad stories with the facts. Stella states that maybe the Dutch study should be more thoroughly examined by Jesse. Writing and publishing articles on gender is complicated. Jesse says Republicans are taking the gender issue to the state level. Politicians have no idea of what the real science around the issue is. Sasha asks Jesse if he believes this to be a medical scandal. In 1972, Sweden was the first country to bring in gender recognition. Many studies are funded to procure a certain message. Religions may tell young adults that a platonic kernel exists somewhere within them. Puberty often helps resolve dysphoria. Stella shares her example.
