Shauna is the Chief Marketing Strategist of Making Moxie . She wanted to create a more effective marketing solution for startups than the agency model, so she created herself a role as a fractional marketing director. Through this approach, Shauna has helped her clients achieve results such as a 400% increase in website conversions and a 220% growth in sales. She is also the host of the Startup Renegades podcast, a raw conversation with founders about their business journeys and the growth strategies they've used to successfully scale their brands.
In this episode, I interview Shauna Armitage, the Chief Marketing Strategist at Shauna Armitage-Moxie, LLC, a marketing and advertising company based in Denver, Colorado, USA, guiding early-stage startups in building a marketing strategy that gets results. They teach founders how to own their brand, reach their audience and scale their startups through a holistic growth strategy. Shauna was a freelance writer and director of digital content for a digital marketing agency. Unfortunately, she was fired for acting as an advocate for clients and staff. After several months of no work, she decided to start her own marketing and advertising company that is more ethical and aligned with her mission. Shauna decided to create custom marketing plans that are catered to a company's unique vision and goals. Starting the business was tough for Shauna, in her first year, she had a few clients but couldn't make a profit. However, it motivated her to do better and ended up growing her team members due to the increase of clients, so her company is now a six-figure business and definitely will grow much more. This Cast Covers: Guides small business owners and entrepreneurs in building a marketing strategy that gets results. Bridges the gap between freelancers and agencies by coming in and looking at marketing from a very high-level perspective. Emphasizes building strategy rather than picking one strategy at a time which doesn't get the company closer to its growth goals. How fractional marketing is a big step in propelling the business involving people who work across marketing channels and events. The role of a fractional marketing director is designed for early-stage startups that were not yet big enough for a full-time hire but wanted a dedicated team member to bring all the pieces together and drive brand growth. The importance of work-life balance and how it makes people more successful. How personal development is a great growth experience. The importance of consistency in all aspects of the business to establish awareness and build trust. Making the largest impact possible with big ideas and small budgets. Shauna's Social Media Wanda's Instagram: @shauna.armitage The Startup Renegade Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/startup-renegades/id1555858207 Shauna's Advice I think marketing is so important for every company no matter what stage that you're at. The best thing that you can do is market before you're ready, because there's nothing worse than having your big launch or your big reveal and there's crickets because nobody knows that what you're doing exist. So you always have to market before you're ready, you always need to market with an open mind. You should always be looking for help or feedback. That doesn't necessarily mean hiring a marketer like me. It could be reaching out to your community and asking for mentorship. It could be running market studies and asking random people in Facebook groups what they think about what you're doing. But when we ask questions, and we look for feedback, that's what makes us all continue to evolve and get better. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Shauna Armitage is a fractional marketing director for early stage startups. Bridging the gap between consultant and agency, Shauna takes a hands-on approach to helping small business develop their marketing strategies. She will guide you through the best way to get started marketing your business, and some easy guidelines to follow to grow your customer base.
A few years ago Shauna wasn't in a great place. She had a decent job but she was vehemently opposed to the way her boss was conducting business. When she stood up for her clients, she was fired. With her husband only 3 weeks away from a 6-month deployment in the Middle East and with 3 young kids at home, she was stuck without too many options. This was when she decided to start her own business where she could conduct operations with integrity. Ultimately, this has led to a big shift in her own life where she's been able to create a life that she loves. Treating her clients with respect and being a part of their team instead of simply " a contractor" has shown them that she cares deeply about their success and that she's invested in their growth. Shauna talks about how she created this dynamic with her clients on this week's show.
