Stepping outside of school hours Hello, lovely listeners. I want to let you know about a bit of a change. This podcast is now the Kate Toon Show. Yes, I've finally embraced having my own name in the title of my podcast. Why? Because I'm a huge, egotistical beast. No, the reality is with so many different brands and books and stories to tell, I needed an overarching name for the show that allowed me to talk about all the various bits and bobs. So what is the Kate Toon Show? Well, I'm here to help you build a successful, profitable, and enjoyable business using smart, creative, simple digital marketing and business tactics. Now, whether that's creating passive income streams, juggling your real life with your business life, being a misfit or passing on smart marketing tips, I'm here to help. In this next series, we'll be talking more about Six Figures While You Sleep, how to create automated digital passive income products, such as courses, memberships, masterminds, and digital downloads. But I also want to be able to talk about all the other things I love. We can talk about whatever we want, but the whole goal of it is to show you different and interesting ways to build a brand that you love, that you're proud of, and that serves the life that you want to live. It may be slightly unconventional compared to other businessey typey, coachy, mentory people, but it's going to be my way and hopefully we'll have a giggle along the way. There'll still be guests, there'll still be tips. The Kate Toon Show is coming. Get your ear holes ready. Like most parents who run a business, I often feel utterly overwhelmed. I struggle with competing priorities, and in the past, I've pushed myself way too hard. I shared my story of near burnout in the book, and I've talked about it on the podcast before. I didn't fully reach burnout but I definitely saw rock bottom. Sometimes you have to amp up the self-care, adjust your working habits, or change tracks altogether. Today's guest not only came back from burnout, but now coaches other small business owners on how to recognise the signs and avoid it. Tune in to learn: How Laetitia dealt with her burnout, and the life changes she made as a result Why she moved away from her managerial position to start building her own business. How to prevent yourself from burning out with micro-moments How Laetitia uses public accountability and the Pomodoro technique to be more productive Why Laetitia is driven by three key values: empowering women, sustainability and giving back to community. Today's guest knows how this feels, and has built an entire business around helping mums pursue their careers and manage their families as well. I can't wait to hear her advice. In this thought-provoking vlog, we delve into the nuanced world of relationships through the lens of a ParentPreneur. We explore the concept that daily interactions, whether with someone we talk to every day or a mentor we admire through a podcast, can forge bonds strong enough to place them in the ‘family' category, despite not sharing blood relations. This perspective challenges the traditional notion of family and acquaintances, highlighting how individuals who are not part of our daily lives often fade into the background. This phenomenon is especially prevalent among those who have worked closely with others for years, only to find their connection wanes once they are no longer in the same space. As ParentPreneurs, navigating the delicate balance of personal and professional life is crucial. This vlog addresses the guilt some may feel over the struggle to maintain friendships when, in reality, many friendships are transient. The emphasis is placed on cherishing and nurturing the family—both biological and chosen—that supports and uplifts us. By focusing on these core relationships, we can foster meaningful connections that truly enrich our lives, both personally and professionally. Join us as we reflect on the importance of discerning which relationships to prioritize as a ParentPreneur, ensuring that our efforts and emotional investments are directed towards those who truly matter and contribute to our growth and happiness. This vlog is a must-watch for anyone navigating the complex terrain of entrepreneurship while juggling the responsibilities of parenthood.

As a fellow human trying to balance parenting and running a business, I know how hard it can be. This week I want to address your woes in another Agony Aunt episode. I asked members of the Misfit Entrepreneurs Facebook group what their biggest challenges were as business parents. And today I'll answer one from Bec Slack from CleverStuff. Bec's biggest challenge is: “When they were younger the feeling of guilt for using daycare when people thought working from home meant they should be with me (noone actually said it, but it was the feeling). Now they are older it's the guilt of being home and them asking to do something but I still have work to do. Mind you, their face when I can make an assembly to see them get an award or being able to attend book parade makes up for it. Juggling is tricky no matter what though. It's not just work Vs kids, it's work Vs kids Vs partner Vs mental health Vs social life Vs hobbies Vs sleep.” Listen to all tip episodes here Buy your copy of Six Figures in School Hours Freebies: Personal Branding Workbook Productivity Cheat Sheet Join the Misfit Entrepreneurs on Facebook Join the Digital Marketing Collective membership

In this week's episode, Olivia sits down with IGC Graduate, Author, DEI Educator, and Six-Figure Certified Coach vp wright (she/they). Sales is the art of receiving money in exchange for your goods and services. It's an energetic exchange between two people, and it can be beautiful. Here to prove that point are two highly opinionated, emotional women discussing The Walking Dead. This week, Annie P. is joined by a beloved sister in the ethical/heart-centered sales space, Sarah Walton. Unlike Annie, Sarah grew up loving the rush and competition of selling. (Annie made her grandma buy all her Girls Scout Cookies.) But - both sales strategists stand together in the undeniable truth that if you're running a business you must sell, and sell, and keep selling - but it should never require you to compromise your integrity or self-respect. Then, after swapping sales strategies, trips and tricks, the pair embark on a journey through Atlanta's favorite zombie apocalypse, The Walking Dead, which Sarah argues is "very, very entrepreneurial." *Parentpreneur advisory: this episode contains small amounts of colorful language. [00:07:03] When did you realize that selling could be a pleasurable experience? [00:12:14] Women do "the invisible work" that makes the world work. [00:17:23] Deep, heart-centered [self-] forgiveness work may be required. [00:23:02] What is the difference between ambition and scrappiness? Are you truly making profit a priority? There are so many metrics to track, clients to dazzle, prospects to woo, details to manage. It's shockingly easy for our livelihoods to get lost in the shuffle. But, we can't grow what we don't fully understand. How can we cut through the shiny objects vying for our attention, and focus in on the areas that will help us soar? In this week's jam-packed episode, Sam Varner offers reframe after reframe for your goals, struggles, successes, and gifts. "Entrepreneurial struggle" AKA the horrible, soul-sucking parts of self-employment come up an awful lot in this chat, but Sam and Annie keep things humorous and practical while diving headfirst into their own hard-won lessons and vulnerable shares. Then, we're back in Red and Kitty's basement. What lessons can we learn about our best practices from That '90s Show? *Parentpreneur advisory: this episode contains small amounts of colorful language. [00:10:15] Where are you tripping in your sales world? [00:17:14] Grit is being "all in" your business until it works. I'm sure many parents will relate to the story of my guest today, Elizabeth McMeans. Elizabeth's pathway to education entrepreneurship stemmed directly from her efforts to find a more nurturing, personalized educational environment for her son as he approached kindergarten age. He would have been one of the youngest in his kindergarten class, and that concerned Elizabeth as she saw the ways in which today's kindergarten classrooms are more rigid and less play-based than they were even a few decades ago. She discovered the idea of hybrid homeschooling and eventually launched her own Prenda-affiliated learning pod in Wichita, Kansas. If you're here, you listen to podcasts (thanks!) but have you explored the highly strategic, life-affirming, and bond-galvanizing art of podcast guesting? In 2021, Annie P. was on dozens and dozens of podcasts and it dramatically changed her audience size, talking points, and overall marketing in tiny and huge ways. Now, all-star podcast connector, host, and agency owner Angie Trueblood is here to break the processes of pitching and preparation down into digestible, exciting chunks. Then, Angie introduces the concept of "vetting for energy" - the perfect way to make sure each of your interviews amplifies the right kind of message, won't alienate your audience, or require you to poach customers away from your competitors. Then, Angie and Annie transition to talking about reality-tv sensation, Survivor, now wrapping up its 42nd season. What can we learn about partnerships and our own strengths from tribal councils, khaki shorts, and relay races? Whom, if anyone, should we vote off of the island that is our small business? *Parentpreneur advisory: this episode contains colorful language.
