The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 8th study session on Dave Cullen's COLUMBINE. On April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 people and injured 24 more at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. This week, we continue our exploration of Cullen's narrative of the events leading up to the massacre, the motivations of the White killers, and the aftermath of the slaughter. The teen duo apparently had contact with enforcement officers well in advance of the shooting. Last week, we got enough detail for Gus to conclude it was criminally negligent that Harris and Klebold's parents, school officials and local enforcement officers failed to intercept this plot. TWO separate White people found one of Eric Harris's explosive devices in advance of the attack. Each of these two highly intelligent young lads had been suspended from school, a felony arrest record, and both admitted to underage substance use. If these were two black boys, they would have been "pipelined" to prison before they could spell bomb - their parents too. Cullen also detailed the extraordinary hypocrisy with Cassie Bernall's parents choosing to publish a book of lies about their daughter's murder. Evidence and witnesses revealed that Valeen Schnurr was the victim who acknowledged her belief in God, not Cassie. In addition to publishing a bestseller with a debunked title (She Said Yes), Misty Bernall took sabbatical from her job at Lockheed Martin to pen a dishonest book. Lockheed Martin is the local Denver bomb-making factory for the US government (so-called). Timothy McVeigh, Eric Rudolph, Ted Kaczynski, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold represent the White, private citizen "bomber man." #MakeMyDay #BomberMan #WhatDoesItMeanToBeWhite #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

This week we (SW Florida) took a direct hit from Hurricane Ian.  Let me say that it was the scariest day of my life. But we made it.  Our local wedding community is strong and we will rebuild.  I had to wait to get internet back in order to be able to drop this episode and the next few will most likely be delayed.  Please stick with me though because we have so many good episodes to come. Are you at the point where you are determining what formality of wedding you'll be having? By formality I mean, White Tie, Black Tie, Black Tie invited or optional, Formal, Cocktail, Resort or Beach Casual, or Casual? In this episode Kristy and I will be explaining the differences in maximalist and minimalist black tie.  This topic is intriguing is because day in and day out couples steer away from Black Tie because they're concerned it will be too stuffy or over the top when in actuality it can be the exact opposite.KRISTY'S WORK, LIKE HER PERSONALITY, is at times difficult to pin down. Her brushstrokes can ebb and flow from highly detailed and meticulous to free-flowing and boundless, all the while remaining captivating and unmistakable. For the last 19 years, Kristy's obsession with paint and paper has evolved into the innovative and wildly recognized brand, Momental Designs.  Kristy has transformed event stationery into a persuasive and compelling medium that garners global attention from media, celebrities and some of the world's most creative individuals. Widely regarded as an industry tastemaker, Kristy's styling, painting and stationery innovations have been featured in creative editorials and installations in some of the world's most famed publications.  Kristy's work has been credited in People Magazine, Good Morning America, New York Live, The Knot, Inside Weddings and Brides Magazines, Vanity Fair, Martha Stewart Weddings. She is also a 9-time author.Places to go - People to see:Kelly's Site: http://www.kellymcwilliams.comKelly's Blog: https://www.kellymcwilliams.com/blogInstagram: @kellyamcwilliamsLance's Site & Insta: https://www.mydfwdj.com/ / https://www.instagram.com/mydfwdj/About Kelly:Hundreds of weddings and 21 years in the industry, Kelly knows how incredible a well planned wedding can be. At the time of this recording we are in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Which meant many engaged couples are re-examining their guest lists to accomodate what was safe and/or allowed. But even outside of this pandemic, this decision and topic is important. In this episode Sara and I are determined to share with you all the wonderful things that make a small or intimate guest list great, but also the pitfalls and stresses of it. The great thing is that there is the alternative; hosting a celebration for your full guest list. That doesn't mean that there are any less or more pitfalls and stresses that come with tying the knot with every single person you hold near and dear. Basically, we know that BOTH options are great, and this is a topic that you really do have to sit down and think of the pros and cons.As a logistics expert who’s also a creative, Sara brings a rare combination of skills and savvy to wedding planning. After growing up surrounded by weddings as the daughter of a minister, Sara founded Bella Notte in 2004. To veil or not to veil. Or maybe even yes veil, but what style? I knew from the get go that I didn't have a depth of knowledge on choosing a veil because there are so many lengths and styles to choose from. In this episode Nhi gives all the goods of bridal looks and I give up the logistics of what may go down at your wedding when wearing one. Truth: I asked a bajillion questions, and that's always a good thing for you. Nhi gives some great insight on when to say no to wearing a veil. Did you know that its okay to go to a bridal salon separately from where you purchased your dress to get your veil? Did you also know that you can and should look into a custom length veil if you're planning a chapel or cathedral length? Yes. its true. Some lengths and veil types we discuss:BirdcageJuliet capBlusherFingertipChapelCathedralMantillaNhi Hoang is a marketing expert, social media manager and editor with more than 8 years of experience in the bridal industry. Listening to Music by Sean

She Said Yes is a song about Love's arch. Does love at first sight exist? Do we ever really really know anyone? Imagine if at a glance we understood what an entire life with that person would be. Would we choose better? Or, is the best of love what happens once plans fail. If you'd like to hear more music by Sean, please visit seanriley.com/music. For what question did you most want to hear the answer "yes"?She Said Yes (Music and Lyrics by Sean Riley)Please stay awhile. She said yes.Take my hand. She said yes. Do you love me back? She said yes. Will you share this life? She said yes. Is this our golden age? She said yes.I can't believe the time. She said yes.Is it twilight yet? She said yes. Please hold my hand.

"She said yes!" But the event leading to her 'yes' was radically different than anything a girl would expect. Into the life of Mary, a common young woman with a common name in a common town, God spoke significance. We too are significant to God. Our 'yes' has a powerful place in God's significant plan. We are given the amazing dignity of being included in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

There is a rich field of literary hoaxes to pull from, and for this episode we pulled a few favorites. Ben brings a selection of "misery memoirs," stories of a victim triumphing over incredible hardships (which, in these examples, are fictional hardships or fictional victims). She Said Yes and Go Ask Alice are two prominent examples of teenage martyrdom that aren't what they seem. Celestia tells tales of promiscuous bat-people on the moon, a nineteenth-century newspaper hoax, and we break down the cultural factors that contribute to the popularity and believability of any hoax. Ben ends with the heart-wrenching story of a literary version of Munchausen by proxy and the puzzling search for a very popular boy with a harrowing tale of abuse and terminal illnesses, one that moved both Oprah and Mr. Rogers.
