There are certain fall traditions in New Jersey, and one of them is upon us - the great Steve Politi is at the Ledger writing about Rutgers Football, as well as everything else in the world of sports in New Jersey.Chris was able to talk with this longstanding Jersey journalistic icon about some of the greatest moments in New Jersey sports history, about Arturo Gatti, what it was like meeting Nick Suriano, does the Ledger really have a Seton Hall bias?...... but most importantly we were able to discuss looking at New Jersey through the lens of sports. Why does Jersey respond so hard to certain stories? Why does it produce a certain type of athlete? Through these stories, can we help define the often hard to nail down reasons why Jersey is the way it is?Enjoy! Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. It's time for Week 5 as Buckeye Talk continues to devote an episode to each game of Ohio State's 2022 football schedule. On Oct. 1, the Buckeyes will host Rutgers for homecoming with a 3:30 kickoff, and on this Buckeye Talk, Steve Politi of nj.com is here to talk about that. But there's only some Rutgers talk, including about quarterback Gavin Wimsatt, who is Rutgers' version of Quinn Ewers. He reclassified and enrolled in college early last year, but as the No. 202 overall recruit in that class, he stuck around. And he has a chance to be Rutgers' quarterback for a long time, and maybe the best quarterback Rutgers has seen in quite a while. But Doug and Steve also talked about the process of sportswriting for a big chunk of the pod, talking about Rutgers coverage, writing about New York sports, and some of Steve's favorite stories he's ever done, from Mexico to The Masters to the Olympics. And then Doug wraps up with why he thinks this once again won't be much of a game. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk from cleveland.com. Learn more about your ad choices. Las Vegas was back up and running on Thursday, June 4. The number of open casinos was limited as was each one’s capacity. None the less, casino stock investors were pleased with the early reports. Demand was stronger than expected in the early Las Vegas crowds. The road to recovery remains rather long but clearing this first hurdle was an important step forward. One financial firm with a vested interest is Bank of America. One of its gaming analysts is Shaun Kelley. He reported that strong demand will push up the reopening date of other casinos properties in Las Vegas. The Casino Gambling Experience During The CoronavirusLand-based casinos are starting to reopen all across the nation. The biggest industry news came from Nevada with Las Vegas and Reno back in business. Over on the East Coast, the shutdown in Atlantic City continues. This should carry over into July. The overall gambling experience awaiting those patrons will be interesting to say the least. To get a taste of things to come, NJ Advance Media columnist Steve Politi took a trip to Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut. The one word he used to sum up that experience was surreal. Dealers in masks, plastic partitions at gaming tables and the strong smell of disinfectant were a few observations.Social Distancing and Sinks at Slot Machine Greet Las Vegas GamblersWhat is happening in Las Vegas these days is vastly different from just a few months ago. Casino were finally allowed to reopen on June 4 following the complete coronavirus shutdown in mid-March. Strict guidelines for health and safety have been put into place. A key component of that plan is social distancing and added sanitation measures. Plastic partitions keep players separated. Portable sinks for washing hands are new additions to the casino floor. The gaming industry is trying to bring visitors back to Las Vegas casinos while also keeping them apart. Player limits at table games and available slot machines have become part of the plan.Eldorado Resorts Posted Solid Gain in Stock PriceEldorado Resorts is a major player in Nevada’s gaming industry. All of its current business is in the Reno and Lake Tahoe region of the state. Plans to acquire Caesars Entertainment for $17.3 billion will extend that business to Las Vegas. Demand was stronger than expected when select Nevada casinos reopened their doors for business on June 4. They had been shuttered since mid-March due to the coronavirus. This demand drove up the price of Eldorado stock in late-week trading. A gain of eight percent set the price at its highest levels since early March. Gaming investors have a strong interest in regional players such as Eldorado Resorts.

Tony and Gary pay tribute to one of their all-time heroes, the “Greatest of All Time”, Muhammad Ali. They also talk to Star-Ledger and NJ.com writer Steve Politi regarding his just-published article about the time Ali attempted to get The Beatles to reunite! It's fascinating! Sad as the passing of Ali is, this episode still contains lots of laughs, as Tony describes his “boys weekend” with his son, and Gary talks about a truly bizarre parade that he recently witnessed. Plus: Who would do better in jail, Tony, or Gary? And: an appropriate, funny, and poignant “Celebrity Encounter”. This episode floats like a butterfly, but stings like a bee!
