Using this exclusive data. CR provides reliability ratings for every major mainstream model, from brands that are highly rated to those that give owners constant issues. In this episode, we discuss some notable new insights on EVs, plug-in hybrids, hybrids, and traditional gas vehicles, and the difference in their reliability performance. Also, we explain how CR's "average" reliability rating has changed over the years--Is an "average" car from 2022 more or less reliable than one from 2012. And as a comparison, what is a more sensible purchase? A Tesla Model 3 or a Toyota Corolla hatchback? In a sea of crossovers, SUVs and big-budget luxury cars, the lowly, economically friendly hatchback has started to fall out of favor. Though, Toyota is still throwing its Corolla into the fray, and brought the 12th-gen Corolla into the world in 2018. For '23, Toyota gave the Corolla a light styling refresh, a new standard eight-inch media screen and an upgraded radio. Powering the '23 Corolla is a 2.0-liter I4 that feeds 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque through a CVT. From there, power hits the front wheels. Of course, this isn't as radical as the absurd GR Corolla, but this basic Toyota hatchback handles the daily grind without breaking your bank account. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the '23 Corolla and puts it through its paces. Wren takes you around the '23 Corolla and shows off some of its most interesting features. Later, Wren takes you along for a live drive review. Adding to the show, Wren chats with Patrick Carone to give more context about the '23 Corolla, compare it to its more powerful GR counterpart and discuss how it stacks up with its major rival: the Honda Civic. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes this Corolla Hatchback special.

Is the 2019 Genesis G70 the real sports sedan deal not just on the track, but in the day-to-day? Benjamin certainly thinks so after spending a week behind the wheel of the turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 model - even after having sampled the completely-redesigned BMW 3 Series the week before. Sami gets to the bottom of whether the 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback has a chance at toppling the excellent Honda Civic hatch, just before the pair segue into the death of a longtime five-door friend of the show, the Volkswagen Golf.
The Toyota Corolla has always been about efficiency and value. Fun to drive? Not so much. The 12th generation Corolla brings a new dynamic to the storied nameplate to keep buyers from fleeing to crossovers. And the hatchback version offers up the same kind of SUV practicality too, as long as you don’t have too much to haul around. Tom Voelk reviews the XSE model.
This week we are covering the latest new car debuts from the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. We talk about some of the most significant debuts from the show, including the 2019 Mazda 3, Lincoln Aviator, Porsche 911, Jeep Gladiator pickup, and the Toyota Prius All-Wheel Drive. We also talk about General Motors decision to close five plants and lay off over 10,000 workers. Finally we share our thoughts on the new vehicle test drive of the week, the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback.
This week we’re honoured to have Trevor Byrne in the studio. Trevor is the mastermind behind the Bucket Seat podcast and is a connoisseur of all things automotive. He’s also a closet Subaru fanboy but has a long history with older tuned Hondas. In the garage this week is some great machinery including the Toyota Corolla Hatchback, the new Lexus LS 500 F-Sport, the BMW M5 Competition, and the Range Rover Td6 diesel. We also say farewell to one of our colleagues, a regular podcast teammate.
The Miata finally has more power - but is it in the right place? Sami drives the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata long the California coast to get the answers. Meanwhile, Benjamin gets behind the wheel of the also-more-mighty 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback, redesigned for the current model year, as well as the 2018 BMW 430i Gran Coupe, which might be the best option for entry-level luxury shoppers. Wrapping things up, Sami road trips in the 2018 Ford F-150 Limited and the 2018 Ram 1500 Limited in a battle of the best full-size pickups.
This week, we discuss data from IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) regarding advanced safety technology, and whether semi-autonomous equipped cars are providing a safety benefit to drivers. We just bought a 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback to join our testing program, and we give our initial impressions, and whether Toyota can convince buyers that a Corolla can be sporty!
