The Unnamed Automotive Podcast gets their helmets on, beefs up their suspension, and hits the unpaved road this week as our hosts review two rally-inspired cars. The show starts off with Benjamin's review of the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally, which gets more power, stylish upgrades and extra armor for its battery, all for tackling the great unpaved wilderness. However, weight and grip may have shifted Benjamin's experience with this all-weather EV. Then Sami jumps into an honest-to-goodness, high-performance Toyota, with the GR Corolla. Yes, it's designed by Toyota, developed by Toyota and made by them too, but in this episode, Sami gets to try out the automatic version of this rally-oriented hot hatch. The conversation drifts its way through the typical hot-hatch territory, as the guys talk about some of their favorites in the segment. Thanks for listening!

Performance enthusiasts and luxury SUV shoppers have two compelling new options to consider in the automotive landscape. We take a deep dive into the track-focused 2025 Subaru WRX TS and the premium 2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV, exploring what makes each vehicle unique in today's market. The WRX TS emerges as Subaru's answer to drivers seeking track-day thrills in a practical sedan package. With its aluminum hood and fenders, gold Brembo brakes, and moonroof delete, this performance-oriented trim delivers the genuine WRX experience with enhanced capabilities. The 271-horsepower turbocharged boxer engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission offers an increasingly rare connection between driver and machine. Inside, Recaro seats hold you firmly through corners while the new 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster displays performance data to satisfy data-hungry enthusiasts. At $45,750, the TS positions itself competitively against rivals like the Golf R and GR Corolla.Shifting gears completely, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 showcases a different automotive philosophy—luxury, efficiency, and distinctive styling. This two-row SUV borrows the platform of its CX-90 sibling but eliminates the third row for enhanced cargo capacity. The PHEV model combines a 2.5-liter engine with electric components to deliver 323 horsepower and exceptional fuel economy (up to 56 mpg when fully charged). The copper exterior paired with red Nappa leather interior creates a bold aesthetic statement, while quilted seats and high-quality materials elevate the cabin experience. Starting at $57,450 for PHEV models, this premium crossover delivers luxury-adjacent features at a competitive price point. We also explore the phenomenon of "carguments"—those inevitable disagreements that occur during road trips. Research shows nearly half of American drivers admit to arguing behind the wheel, most commonly about directions. The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N takes everything you'd expect from a battery-electric vehicle and throws it for a loop. Hyundai's performance-oriented BEV gives you battery-electric bonafides like 601 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque but throws the brand's N image into the mix. That translates to fake shift points, hilarious engine noise, and a package that is still useful despite the hilarity. This combination of performance and cartoonish enthusiasm makes the Ioniq 5 N one of the most exciting battery-powered vehicles on the road today. Eschewing battery power, but also stuck with high-strung downsizing, the Toyota GR Corolla takes the tried-and-true enthusiast car path and features gobs of power for not a lot of mass. This GR Corolla packs a turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine under the hood that throws 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed manual transmission and into a standard all-wheel-drive system. Like the Ioniq 5 N, the Corolla shape and the potent powertrain have turned the GR Corolla into an instant enthusiast darling. On this episode of Talking Car with the Boss, Natalie Neff and Wesley Wren discuss their respective times in these machines. The two talk about the Ioniq 5 N's effect on battery-electric cars, the hilarious simulated features, and what makes it so interesting for non-EV shoppers. They also talk about what makes the GR Corolla so special in today's marketplace. Closing the show, the pair both pick which machine they'd add to their collections.

Driving from Dallas to Oxford, Mississippi, and back over the course of a three-day weekend sounds like a daunting proposition for a lot of people. After all, Dallas is 530 miles from Oxford, so the journey entails a lot of driving. But there is reason behind our madness. Our future son-in-law went to Ole Miss, and he and my daughter asked us to join them to make the trip to see the Rebels play Oklahoma. How could you turn that down? The good news is we found the perfect vehicle for the trip — the 2025 Honda Odyssey Elite minivan. Intelligently upgraded for the new model year, the Odyssey proved to be the ideal vehicle for our, well, odyssey. Of course, it. It wasn't enough to drive directly from Ft. Worth to Oxford, Mississippi — 500 miles as the crow flies. No, with the Odyssey's newly revised infotainment system to guide us, we decided to take a side trip to visit Hot Springs National Park, one of the few national parks in the middle of a city. Then we pointed the Odyssey's attractive nose to Grenada, Mississippi, because getting rooms in Oxford on football weekends involves mortgaging your home or selling an offspring. The Odyssey's long-standing reputation as a reliable, spacious transporter proved invaluable. With five travelers aboard, we appreciated the roomy interior that can accommodate as many as eight and the adaptable seating. Honda's Magic Slide seats and the fold-flat third row offered versatility, making cargo management easy, even with tons of luggage and snacks aboard. The Odyssey's V-6 engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission provided smooth and efficient performance, providing plenty of power for passing on the rural two-lanes we often found ourselves on. Notable tech features like a rear-seat entertainment system, cabin camera, and PA system kept everyone comfortable and connected. In short, the Odyssey slayed as a cross-country family cruiser, and Host Jack Nerad will tell you more in this episode. This week, our special guest is also our guest host. A few days ago, Matt DeLorenzo and host Jack Nerad traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for the annual North American Car of the Year test session. After driving about a dozen car of the year contenders each, they sat down to talk about what they had learned and what vehicles impressed them. In this episode, Matt Delorenzo will also review one of the North American Truck of the Year semi-finalists, the 2025 Ford Ranger with its new 2.7-liter turbocharged engine. In the news, the Biden Administration's proposed ban on cars and trucks that include Chinese technology is facing big-time blowback from several sources, including the Mexican government. One auto brand says the ban will eliminate it completely from the U.S. market, including the vehicles it builds in Carolina. We'll have more on that. Speaking of the Chinese, Volkswagen is having big troubles in Europe and worldwide with many of its issues caused by new Chinese competition. We'll tell you how that might sort out and what it could mean here in America. Meanwhile Toyota is ramping up its EV efforts with a new deal with Suzuki Motors, one of several efforts it is making on the EV front. Toyota has also unveiled its 2025 GR Corolla, and we'll have details on that coming up. So we have a lot of show for you this week. This week America on the Road proves yet again that there is more to driving than just getting from Point A to Point B in a thoroughly rational but also thoroughly uninvolving crossover SUV. We experienced this firsthand as we road-tested two exceedingly enjoyable sports cars — the legendary Mazda MX-5 Miata and the almost equally legendary Subaru WRX. The 2024 WRX TR trim that Co-Host Chris Teague tested offers improved performance and handling from its rally-inspired chassis and suspension. It features a Brembo braking system with six-piston front and two-piston rear calipers, larger pads and rotors, and a larger brake master cylinder. Suspension enhancements include stiffer springs, revised damping rates, and a retuned steering rack for better control and response. The TR comes with 19-inch satin gray alloy wheels and Bridgestone Potenza S007 summer tires. Inside, it has Recaro seats with black and gray Ultrasuede, red stitching, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat. With its six-speed manual transmission, the 2024 WRX TR is base-priced at $41,655. How does it compare to Teague's GR Corolla? He'll tell us in his report. Across the country, Host Jack Nerad got the chance to test the 2024 MX-5 Miata Grand Touring trim, which received significant updates enhancing performance and comfort. Powered by a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder engine delivering 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, the MX-5 Miata retains its classic front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The Sport and Club trims come exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, while the Grand Touring we tested offers either a manual or a six-speed automatic. In addition to Kinematic Posture Control, the Miata now offers a revamped electric power steering system with a new steering rack and software enhancements for smoother steering and better precision. Exterior updates include new LED headlights and taillights and additional color options. Inside, the 2024 Miata features a revised center console, an 8.8-inch infotainment display with added touch functionality, and Mazda's first Alexa integration. But does all this new stuff blunt the winning Miata experience? Nerad will have the answer in this show. In the news this week, Honda has given an in-depth briefing about its upcoming all-new lineup of electric vehicles, and the concepts are startling. We'll give you the details. General Motors has just ditched a major brand name as it does an about-face in its electric vehicle strategy. We'll tell you what brand they are turning their back on and give you our comments. If you are thinking about buying a new car soon, you should be aware that a substantial percentage of buyers are now taking on massive monthly payments when they make a purchase. Will you be one of them? And in the True Crime Files Automotive Edition, there is a new development in the trial of a major figure in the Volkswagen Dieselgate scandal. Is there prison in his future? This week, our special guest is Chevrolet bicyclist safety expert Mike Fry. The new Chevy Traverse has a system that is particularly useful in preventing vehicle-bicycle accidents, and we'll talk with him about that and about bicycle safety. We think you'll enjoy the discussion. So we have a lot of show for you this week. Thanks for joining us, and don't forget to look for new content on our YouTube and Rumble channels. Then, Mr. Anonymous in MA wants something slow, but fun and engaging. This week, the Unnamed Automotive Podcast dives into the 2024 Toyota GR Corolla, a hot hatchback inspired by rally racing machines. Equipped with a turbocharged three-cylinder engine, Benjamin gives us his full review of this all-wheel-drive hatch, and has plenty to say about how it feels to push it through the rough and tumble rural environment he calls home. He also details its fancy AWD system, and how it stacks up to other systems on the market. Then the guys take a quick tangent to discuss suing NASCAR for anti competitive behaviour. Where is the formerly accessible sport heading? Be sure to get in touch and let us know what you think! Thanks for listening!

Toyota's long-running Corolla entered its 12th generation in 2018. With its 12th iteration, Toyota also rolled out a hybrid powertrain underneath the Corolla's skin, though that might have been overshadowed by the more raucous GR Corolla. Still, this '24 Corolla Hybrid packs a 1.8-liter I4 that works with a hybrid system to send 138 hp to the front wheels. This less-potent hybrid also makes its way to the bottom rung of Toyota's hybrid lineup, where it sits below a $25,000 starting price. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the 2024 Toyota Corolla hybrid and puts it through its paces. Wren takes you on a guided tour of the Corolla hybrid and highlights some of his favorite features. Later, Wren takes you along for a live drive review. Adding to these segments, Wren chats with Autoweek's Patrick Carone about the '24 Toyota Corolla hybrid, the changing landscape of low-priced vehicles, and how this Corolla hybrid stacks up against the latest Toyota Prius. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes this Corolla special.

This week, the Carmudgeons recap their recent 600-mile back-road blast, which resulted in a surprise Best Car for the Mission. Unrelated, an update on their newly-acquired V-12 cars. === This episode is sponsored by Vyper Industrial — America's #1 rated shop chair, tool carts, and creepers, proudly made here in the US. Jason confesses his 850 CSI purchase, which happened while he was doing research for an upcoming Revelations episode. Derek lit his on fire while learning that it needs an engine rebuild. Turns out the BMW 850CSi has the shortest gear ratios of any V-12 car ever sold — and Jason is a self-described whore for short gearing. Meanwhile, Derek bought a V12, manual Ferrari that has no compression in several cylinders. The main subject of the episode is one of Jason and Derek's many friend-group backroad trips in Northern California. As usual, it was a varied group of cars: Jason brought "Beatrice," his E30 BMW 325i sedan. Derek brought his race-prepped Mk5 Volkswagen GTI. Also present was a BMW Z3 2.8, an NA Miata, a GR Corolla, and one car that was very much not appropriate for tight mountain roads: A C126 Mercedes 560SEC. And the Mercedes was, by far, everyone's favorite. Wildly obese and far too large, with non-performance tires, the W126-chassis Mercedes should have been miserable. And what it instead demonstrated was perfect chassis balance, an indefatigable, 300-hp Euro/Japan-spec 5.5-liter engine, and a riotous time. Sometimes, it's the wrong car on the right road that's the most fun. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

9ª Generación: “Taylor made”.
Ferrari announces their newest supercar, called the 12Cilindri, which has a new 12-cylinder engine. I know... the name is, well... interesting. But, this is also the company that named their Hypercar Ferrari "The Ferrari" (LaFerrari), so we shouldn't get too caught up in the name. We should be caught up in the fact that we have a new naturally aspirated V12 engine powering this thing. - With that news, on Episode 54 I dive a bit into the shenanigans at Tesla and the recent layoffs. It's Tuesday and we're talking about customer loyalty coming back according to a new market study. Our show starts with the 2024 Hyundai Tucson N-Line Hybrid, which looks cool and promises low fuel consumption, but Sami and Benjamin have a few contrasting thoughts about the design and effectiveness of that powertrain. Then the guys bring on Thomas Hundal from The Autopian to discuss his recent drive of the 2024 Toyota GR Corolla Circuit Edition. While a $50k Corolla sounds like a crazy idea, Thomas has a few arguments in its favor, without going overboard praising Toyota as some kind of Enthusiast Haven. Finally, Thomas shares the details on one of his latest published features, discussing the Honda Civic Tour, which saw the Japanese automaker splash fancy and unique graphics on a bunch of cars for the latest and greatest (at the time) bands. This list of participating bands include Maroon 5, The Black Eyed Peas, Panic! At The Disco and Blink-182 though some cars have the works, while others are barely changed. Thanks everyone for listening!
The Toyota GR Yaris is one of the coolest and weirdest cars to ever leave a Toyota factory. The combination of an altered Yaris shell, a high-strung turbocharged three-cylinder, and an all-wheel drive system made hot hatch fans in the U.S. jealous. Well, Toyota finally answered the calls of bringing over a rally-inspired hatchback to the U.S., but in the larger Corolla shell. Still sporting a highly strung 1.6-liter I3 under its hood, the GR Corolla helps give North American Toyota fans a rally-inspired option. That 1.6-liter sends 300 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed manual transmission and into an all-wheel drive system. On this episode of Quick Spin, associate editor Emmet White hops behind the wheel of the '23 Toyota GR Corolla and puts it through its paces. White takes you on a guided tour of the GR Corolla and highlights some of his favorite features. Later, White takes you along for a live drive review to highlight his experiences on the road. Adding to these segments, White chats with host Wesley Wren about the GR Corolla, how this Toyota stacks up against the competitive set, and more. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla special.

“Performance Corolla” is an oxymoron up there with “jumbo shrimp”, but the GR Corolla is not part of the Marvel alternative multiverse. It's real, and loads of fun. Starting at just $36,995 with shipping from the specialized factory in Japan, the GR is a performance bargain. 300 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and structural improvements all help to make it the most potent Corolla to date. And the Gazoo Racing visuals get attention… not always welcome. Tom Voelk checks out a Circuit edition that MSRPs at around $44K.
