From the legendary E30 to the turbocharged G80, this retro-futuristic track pulses with nostalgia, horsepower, and pure Bavarian soul. Hit play, ride the grid, and let the spirit of the M3 light up your world.
Bank robbers prefer sport sedans: all the speed of a supercar with seating for all their accomplices — and trunk space for their loot. And the fast sedan was born with the Jaguar sedan powered by a Le Mans-winning-engine. In the 1950s, Jaguar was on a Le Mans winning streak with its MK120-C and D-Type race cars. But why let the sports cars have all the fun? In 1955 Jaguar introduced the 2.4 Saloon (aka the Mark 1), and a handful of months later plopped their Le Mans-winning 210 hp 3.4L straight-6 engine into the chassis to create the 3.4 Saloon. Equipped with race-spec 4-wheel discs and double-wishbone front suspension it outran everything (including the police), and is arguably the world's first sports sedan. In this episode we'll cover the elegantly menacing Jaguar 3.4 Saloon or “Mark 1”. Starting with how to properly pronounce Jagyoowuhr. Or is it Jagwire? Depends. We'll cover the marque's origins – from Sir William Lyons' Swallow Sidecar Company, to early sports cars like the XK120 and the Le Mans winning streak of the 1950s with the C-Type and D-Type. The 2.4L straight-6, followed by the monster 3.4, then 3.8, and even 4.2 which was used all the way up until the mid-1980s in the XJ6 and even early 90s in the Daimler DS420. The 3.4 Saloon employed 4-wheel disc brakes, double wishbone front suspension, a cantilevered rear leaf spring, and panhard rod. Early cars had centrally-mounted gauges, and the chassis was Jaguar's first to use unitary construction. Sadly, galvanization wouldn't take off for another two decades, starting at Porsche. And while the unibody proved stronger than anticipated, it wasn't strong enough to protect racer Mike Hawthorne when he fatally crashed his Mark 1 while passing a Mercedes 300SL Gullwing in England in 1959. The Mark 1 comes from a bygone era of race cars where Le Mans-winning engines (and entire vehicles) would find their way into dealer showrooms effectively unchanged. With few exceptions since (notably the McLaren F1 – which, incredibly, went the reverse direction from streetcar to dominant race car). The last of the breed may have been the Mark III Ford GT40, as things escalated dramatically with the arrival of the Porsche 917. Luckily for us poors, plenty of lower level racing exists, and we got a handful of other homologation specials to choose from in the form of the BMW E30 M3, Mercedes-Benz 190 2.3-16, Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, and Rover SD1, to name a few. Cars like the Alfa Giulietta Ti sedan give the Jag a challenge for the original sports sedan mantle, but the Italian wasn't first. In today's world, the Jag was a performance-per-dollar bargain akin to a Tesla Model 3. Or possibly a Dodge Charger Hellcat. In any case, today's quintessential sports sedan, the M3, has gotten far too pricey to be considered a bargain. As Derek points out, if you're a thrifty enthusiast, skip the G80 and E30 and get yourself a nice used E36 or E46. No matter what you buy, budget for fixing it (especially if it's a Land Rover). And always, always get a silly license plate. Just maybe one that doesn't tempt fate like Jason's friend's NEED AAA plate. Because, umm, he did. Immediately. [The words Hagerty Roadside didn't fit on the plate. Obviously.] Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The 2025 Season of Krunching Gears, episode 2. In this edition of Krunching Gears—The Rally Podcast, we chat with Mats van den Brand, who specialises in building and preparing BMW M3 rally cars according to FIA historic rally specifications. Mats is based in the Netherlands, and both Mats and his beautifully prepared cars are becoming a regular feature of Irish rallying. The BMW M3 E30 is an iconic rally car developed by Prodrive. It first graced the stages in 1987 in the hands of Bernard Béguin. He went on to win the WRC round in Corsica that year. In Ireland, the M3 dominated the stages during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Its agility made it a perfect match for Ireland's tight, twisty roads and was notably campaigned by Bertie Fisher, Austin McHale and Andrew Nesbitt.
¡Vamos a divertirnos!

PDF: https://erickimphotography.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/The-Philosophy-of-Property-5-1.pdf # The Philosophy of Property: https://erickimphotography.com/blog/2024/11/29/the-philosophy-of-property-5/ I've never owned property in the traditional sense in my life. It is still kind of a strange and elusive concept for me. For example, homeownership, is talented as some sort of desideratum, a thing to be desired. So for example, I think like the baby boomer generation, the life goal of everybody was to own your own property? Like purchasing a single-family home, a plot of land etc.? ## Land? Even Cindy's mom said it best, you don't own the property, the government owns it. Even assuming that you buy a plot of land or property in all cash, you're still going to pay around like 1%, 1.05% property taxes on it like forever. Even if you buy a house which is like $1.4 million or something, I think that's like $1250 a month Justin property taxes, and then after homeowners insurance and stuff, which could also be considered an additional non-direct tax, You might be looking at like $2000 a month, just in “taxes”. Just throw in another thousand dollars and you already have rent. ## Why? I thought this morning is in regards to the philosopher; what is a philosopher? A philosopher simply somebody who posits desideratum -- what we should desire, what we should **not** desire. For example, under no circumstances should we desire slavery poverty and to be encumbered. On the contrary, what we should desire is freedom, power and control; consider the blissful authority and self sovereignty of the Spartans. ## New Slaves? > See there's leaders and there's followers, but I'd rather be a dick than a swallower! - Ye the tricky thing with a lot of modern day life is that a lot of the stuff is actually self-imposed slavery. For example let us say that you buy the new BMW M3, yet you finance it, I think the original word for finance actually means ransom. So let us say that you're paying like $1450 a month, just for your car payment. To me this seems like the most insanely foolish financial decision of all time; if you simply pour that into bitcoin, and assuming that bitcoin is going to at least 100X from here, maybe even 1000x, then what that means is that the payments on your car, is like metaphorically paying $15,000, $150,000, or even $1.5 million a month! ## Future projections If I could tell you with 100% certainty that in 21 years, bitcoin would be worth $100 million a coin, maybe even 105 million a coin, which means that assuming that bitcoin is around $100,000 today, that is like a 1000X gain 21 years from now. Certainly it is possible you could die in a texting while driving accident today or tomorrow, but if you plan long-term -- if I told you that the money that you put in this thing today will yield 1000 X 21 years from now, and I could guarantee you with 100% certain that you would be alive healthy and well 21 years from now, wouldn't you plan things differently and spend differently? For example, that hundred dollars you put into that thing, could be worth $1000, $10,000, $100,000-- or even $1M! If that were the case wouldn't you plan things differently? Once again, $100 today being worth $1M in 21 years, with 100% certainty ,,, wouldn't you plan your life differently? First, you would certainly be much more scrappy, frugal, and pursue a much more austere and critical and Spartan lifestyle today. Of course there are certain things you gotta do like feed yourself, pay rent etc., but beyond this… Even thinking about recurring subscriptions and services, that $20 a month you're spending on Spotify, what if that after doing the math, would mean that you're paying $200,000 a month for Spotify? Why don't you just cancel that subscription and put that money into bitcoin instead? ## Fractional property ownership

Sam Newman, Mike Sheahan and Don Scott - 'You Cannot Be Serious'
"Captain" Peter Janson (born 10 April 1940 in New Zealand) is an Australian socialite and former motor racing driver. Janson was born in New Zealand, emigrating to England at a young age. In 1967, he moved to Australia and settled in Melbourne. Janson, who listed his occupation as "Gentleman", established a playboy penthouse in the Federal Hotel before moving to the Hotel Windsor. In the 1980s he moved to Rutherglen House. Janson is renowned for the parties he throws and was a pioneer in transforming the Melbourne Cup into a major event on the Australian social calendar. Motor racing Janson was a competitor in Australian Touring Car Racing. He made 19 Bathurst 1000 starts between 1973 and 1992 primarily in Holden Toranas and Commodores, finishing second in 1979 and 1980 and third in 1977 (all of his podium finishes were with Larry Perkins who would go on to be a six-time winner of the race). With the end of the Group C era in 1984, Janson closed his team but continued to drive for other teams including joining Sydney based privateer Garry Wilmington in a V12 Jaguar XJS in the 1985 and 1986 races. He later scored a class win and fourth outright driving a BMW M3 with fellow Kiwi Trevor Crowe at the 1988 Bathurst 1000 Janson's last appearance at Bathurst was in 1992 where he and Bob Jones finished 20th in a Holden VL Commodore SS Group A SV. Always a colourful character who gave his sponsors a plug at every opportunity, especially when being interviewed in the pits, Janson briefly changed his name by deed poll in the mid-1970s to NGK Janson to circumvent a rule that only allowed a driver's name to be carried above the window line. His former co-driver Larry Perkins also told that one year on a parade lap at Bathurst, Janson continually pulled the car off onto the grass in order to throw Cherry Ripe chocolate bars out to the crowd (his major sponsor being Cadbury Schweppes).
The Audi RS5 is closing in on two decades inside Audi's coupe and sedan lineup. Based on the Audi A5, the RS5 follows the same formula as its competition: take a nice, compact executive sedan, and turn it into a brutal track machine. All the while not throwing away its luxurious appointments. While this hopped-up Audi is traditionally competing with legends like the BMW M3 and the Mercedes-AMG C63, the move to crossovers has changed the A5 and the RS5's scale. Still, this latest RS5 packs a 2.9-liter V6 under the hood that sends 444 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission and into the famed Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Making things even more interesting, Audi will sell this with a pair of doors, or as a four-door sedan that features a lift-back cargo opening. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2024 Audi RS5 and puts it through its paces. Wren takes you on a guided tour of this Audi and highlights some of his favorite features. Later, Wren takes you along for a live drive review. Adding to these segments, Wren chats with Autoweek executive editor Tom Murphy about this RS5, the competition, and more. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes the 2024 Audi RS5 Sportback special.

The latest generation BMW M3 might be the most controversial shape in the nameplate's history. Still, even amid the polarizing styling, BMW's popular performance variant of its even more popular 3-Series sedan packs a hefty punch. BMW's latest generation M3 sticks with I6 and has enough suspension to make its hefty shell handle well. Powering this generation of M3 is BMW's S58 engine, which translates to a 3.0-liter turbocharged I6 that sends 473 hp to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual. If you want more, you can opt for the Competition variant, which cranks power up to 503 hp but at the cost of the manual transmission. Then, if you want even more grip, you can add the xDrive all-wheel-drive system on top of that M3 Competition to get what we have here. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's executive editor Tom Murphy hops behind the wheel of the 2023 BMW M3 Competition xDrive to put it through its paces. Murphy takes you on a tour of the M3 to show off his favorite features before taking you on a live drive review. Adding to that, Murphy chats with hots Wesley Wren about the M3. The pair discuss the M3 Competition's performance, its position in the market, and its polarizing styling. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes this M3 special.
