Official Bio: As a serial entrepreneur who has served as the leader/CTO of several startups with successful exits, I have built a horizontal skill set including product management, UX/UI design, full-stack development, and sysadmin. I quit my job as Technical Lead Manager at Tron Foundation on January 10th. At Tron, I developed TronBox and Tron QuickStart and contributed heavily to TronWeb. Also, I entirely re-wrote TronGrid (an Infura-like infrastructure), making it fast, reliable, and scalable. Before, I ran 0xNIL, Initial Free Offerings, Tweedentity, and a couple of other projects, mostly on Ethereum. As a side project, I am developing a decentralized, cross-chain card game using NFT tokens. From December 2015 to July 2017, I have been a Principal Engineer in the Growth Team at Yahoo. I focused on Golden Gate, a complex, critical infrastructure that manages all the interstitial pages for any mobile web app in Yahoo, generating 96% of all the non-organic installs of Yahoo's mobile apps. After Verizon has acquired Yahoo, I decided to leave and dedicate some time to learning about smart contracts, blockchains, decentralized apps, etc. Before Yahoo, I was a Senior Android developer at Turo (formerly known as RelayRides), which acquired SocialStudio at the end of May 2015. In SocialStudio, from March 2014, I worked on the Android version of FADE, a social network for college students. Before, I developed JumpCam's Android application. We launched it in November 2013, and the Google Play Editorial Team selected JumpCam as an Editor's Choice for Top Apps in 2013. From 2006 to 2012, I co-founded, managed, and sold Passpack, the first host-proof hosting online password manager. Before, I did many other things, but the list would be too long :-) That said, my real nature is artistic. Luke Stokes, the Managing Director of FIO, sits in with today's DIVI podcast co-hosts Steve McGarry and DIVI CEO Geoff McCabe. Luke Stokes talks about Steem's takeover as Justin Sun's Tron Foundation bought 20% of its total token supply last February. Stokes explained that Steem is a delegated-proof-of-stake blockchain where tokens may be used to vote for governance. Steemit Inc.'s original consensus on its ninja-mined stake is for these stakes to be for specific categories in promoting the network and not to dominate Steem. Stokes mentions that though Sun bought a part of Steem's token supply, it does not mean he runs the blockchain. Major developers and stakeholders also had a lot of questions that needed answers, Stoke says. Stokes also mentioned a controversy on non-distribution of these ninja-mined stakes to its account holders. Hope for the best. Plan for the worst. Keep your eyes open. At 5pm Eastern time, soft fork 0.22.2 was announced by the Steem Blockchain witnesses. This soft fork was discussed and implemented by the witnesses after hearing a myriad of concerns regarding the Steemit, Inc. acquisition by Justin Sun and the subsequent press releases which gave contradictory messages about Justin's plans for Steemit and his large newly acquired stake in the Steem blockchain. Steem is not Steemit. This message rings truer now more than ever before. There are 2 major sides to this argument: Did the Steem community and witnesses just prove how decentralized Steem is and how a decentralized community should operate? Or did we just set a dangerous precedent regarding DPoS and blockchain-based assets? ------ In this episode: Steem is never lacking in the drama department We faced an existential threat to the chain and our community warranted a response of some type to defend our home based on Tron announcements Tron marketing teams and their PR is either intentionally misleading or horribly misinformed A decentralized proof of Steem's governance model Temporary fix until proper discussions are had between Steem and Justin Sun… what does this soft fork actually do? Community is divided on whether this was a good move or not — dangerous precedence or logical downside mitigation? Hey everyone. After a crazy day and all sorts of wild speculation from the Steem community about what's going to happen now that Tron and Justin Sun have officially purchased Steemit, Inc., I decided to collect all the information that is available to us and give my opinions on this whole situation. Please keep this in mind when you listen to this video and also when you hear anyone else in the community talking about this — we have such a small amount of information about this whole ordeal. Aside from a few tweets and 1 non-comprehensive blog post, we haven't heard much of anything about this deal. We also have gotten 0 response from Steemit, Inc. other than Ned's 1 tweet in which he called us “Steemitans”, whatever that means. This is your daily roundup for Saturday, September 28, 2019.  The NBA disallows tokenization of contracts, Harbor receives a broker-dealer license, and LedgerX claims unfair treatment by ex-CFTC Chair Giancarlo. ☕ Buy Me A Coffee: https://glow.fm/mota NBA Disallows Tokenization Of Contracts The NBA says Nets basketball player Spencer Dinwiddie can’t sell shares in his contract for a security token offering as it violates the league’s collective bargaining agreement. The league said the arrangement is prohibited by the C.B.A., which rules that ‘no player shall assign or otherwise transfer to any third party his right to receive compensation from the team under his uniform player contract. Dinwiddie planned to tokenize part of his contract on the ethereum blockchain, in order to raise $13.5 million from his three-year, $35 million contract. The token would allow Dinwiddie to raise part of his salary up front and token holders would receive his regular salary payments, recouping their investments and earning interest. Paxos Trust Company was set to provide custody and escrow services for the project, paying investors out in the Paxos Standard stablecoin. Dinwiddie also revealed that he had partnered with Tron Foundation’s Justin Sun to donate 8.2 bitcoin to charity by selling his game-worn shoes for the 2019/2020 season. Harbor Receives Broker-Dealer License Harbor Square Investments, a subsidiary of tokenized securities platform Harbor, has received a broker-dealer license from FINRA. Broker-dealers can buy and sell securities on their own and on their clients’ behalves. In crypto, a broker-dealer who treats digital assets as securities could market them to institutional investors, but face strict requirements from the SEC and FINRA. Harbor adopted a conservative mindset more closely associated with Wall Street banks to overcome regulators’ concerns. Harbor’s compliance officers prepared a 500-page Written Supervisory Procedure document for the SEC, outlining countless processes, from on-boarding new hires to documenting instant messages. Harbor plans to become a “one-stop shop” for digital asset issuers, including managing fundraising, managing investors, tokenizing, and enabling liquidity. LedgerX Claims Unfair Treatment By Ex-CFTC Chair  LedgerX believes former CFTC Chairman J. Christopher Giancarlo was personally biased against the company, and improperly used his position to delay the approval of an amended Derivatives Clearing Organization registration. LedgerX claims that the ex-chair was animus towards a blog post written by LedgerX CEO Paul Chou. The blog post, written in 2018, implied that preferential treatment was being given to larger companies so former chair Giancarlo could cement his legacy. The blog referred to the approval of Bakkt, which was running into issues at the time. According to documents obtained by CoinDesk, former Chair Giancarlo threatened the company by calling a LedgerX board member and telling him that he was going to make sure the Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO) registration order would be revoked. According to the allegation, a CFTC staffer tried to tamper with a LedgerX’s audit. LedgerX CEO Paul Chou  stated “We had conversations with division level heads that discussed how much of a mess this was and that one of them told me that he felt like ‘a guard in a concentration camp, just following orders from the top.’ These orders were completely divorced from the regulatory framework designed to impartially judge an application’s merit and good standing, and in our view, was based entirely on a personal animus between [Giancarlo] and me because of my blog post.” Under federal law, the CFTC has 180 days to approve or deny an application, but LedgerX has noted that its DCO amendment application has been outstanding for more than 250 days. LedgerX CEO Paul Chou was let go from the CFTC’s Technology Advisory Committee this Friday. CFTC spokesperson Michael Short stated “Paul’s erratic and unprofessional behavior had the potential to distract from the important issues under consideration by the committee”

Sarah's with Joon Ian Wong Managing Director for Europe and Asia at Coindesk and Aaron Stanley, Strategic Communications Lead at Sweetbridge to talk about the latest news, including: Police Confiscate some Bitcoin, Coinbase gets political, and Return of the Bitcoin We kick things off with Surrey police force obtaining 295 bitcoins last October after arresting a Latvian man, who has since been convicted for money laundering and sentenced to nine years in prison. Police since sold the assets for around $1.5 million - back then, the price of a bitcoin was around $5,000. The sale has been ruled as legitimate and the police force is allowed to keep 18.8% of the proceeds for its operational budget. Then we move on to the bitcoin price has climbing above the $8,000 mark for the first time since mid-May, what's pushing up the price, and what's going on with the rumours of a bitcoin exchange traded fund (ETF). Next up, we take a closer look at MyEtherWallet, the most popular crypto wallet service on the internet. It's getting a mobile app in a bid to increase security for users. MEW Connect, is an iOS app that allows users to access their wallet through MyEtherWallet but without the need to type their private key. Instead it uses a QR code and it's free, with 600,000 visitors per day the beta demand is likely to be high. We continue on with VCTRADE, the world's first bank-backed cryptocurrency now opening to the public. Owned by SBI Holdings, the Japanese bank launched its in-house crypto trading platform last month. Launch comes nearly two years after SBI Holdings first announced it would build the exchange in October 2016. The platform received an operating license from Japan's financial watchdog, the Financial Services Agency, late last year. The service is now fully open for users aged from 20–70 who reside in Japan. Debut was delayed as the firm worked to raise levels of internal security following a massive $533 million hack at the country's Coincheck exchange in January. Then we move on to exciting news from Google. Google announced a partnership with the New York-based startup Digital Asset, which makes tools to build blockchain-based apps. Google wrote in a blog post that its Cloud customers can “now explore ways they might use distributed ledger technology (DLT) frameworks” through early access to Digital Asset software aiming to provide developers with a full stack solution so they can unleash the potential for web-paced innovation in blockchain. Next up, Coinbase has formed a political action committee (PAC) to raise money to spend on US elections. Under American federal law, an organization is classified as a PAC if it collects donations worth more than $1,000 from its members and channels them into campaign funds with the intention of influencing an electoral process. The biggest motive for Coinbase is access to the politicians that have substantial influence over financial regulatory policy. Finally, we discuss BitTorrent Inc. being acquired by TRON Foundation. BitTorrent Inc, the parent company behind the popular file-sharing client uTorrent, has confirmed its acquisition by the TRON Foundation. The TRON foundation has its own cryptocurrency and the idea is apparently to create. We take a look at what this means for blockchain and if crypto may go the way of BitTorrent, exciting technology that's used for a whille before being supplanted.
