In this episode of With That Being Said, J.R. Bang brings on longtime friend and hip-hop sparring partner Camp From The Port to revisit their decades-long Jay-Z vs. Nas debates and give Nas his flowers through a focused conversation on Nas's most underrated records. They each share their origin stories as fans—Camp initially turning off “The World Is Yours” on TV before eventually becoming a lifelong Nas listener, and J.R. coming in as a die-hard Jay-Z defender who grew up arguing Hov vs. Esco in high school and college. From there, they get into specific deep-cut Nas records that deserve more love, with Camp spotlighting “Undying Love” from I Am…, “Still Dreaming” and “Project Windows,” and “You Gotta Love It” off The Lost Tapes, while J.R. counters with favorites like “Small World,” “Last Words,” “Nas Is Coming,” and “Fear Of The Black Man's Dick” from the Untitled album. Along the way, they unpack the cultural impact of “Takeover” and “Ether,” the way fans lie about what albums they actually heard, why I Am… and Nastradamus are better than their reputations, and how Nas's late-career run with Hit-Boy has raised the bar for what aging rappers can sound like.

This week the boys FINALLY get around to talking about the first Neurosis album after over a decade of hiatus, the massive An Undying Love for A Burning World.
Låtlista:Katatonia - Journey Through Pressure (The Great Cold Distance / Peaceville)Neurosis - We Are Torn Wide Open (An Undying Love For A Burning World / Neurot)Neurosis - Mirror Deep (An Undying Love For A Burning World / Neurot)Neurosis - Blind (An Undying Love For A Burning World / Neurot)Neurosis - Untethered (An Undying Love For A Burning World / Neurot)Neurosis - Last Light (An Undying Love For A Burning World / Neurot)
Today we're discussing An Undying Love for a Burning World, the latest album by Neurosis. It's been 4 years since the band publicly parted ways with founding member Scott Kelly over his admitted abuse toward his family. Since then, the future of Neurosis has been a mystery. But without warning they dropped this album, which features Kelly's full-time replacement, Aaron Turner (Isis, Sumac). Get ready, this album is an absolute beast. Peter and Eden watch 1981's Escape from New York and land, predictably, on opposite sides: Eden had a blast, Peter was fighting sleep and checking the runtime. Before getting there, they spend a significant chunk of the episode on a surprise Neurosis album drop — An Undying Love for a Burning World — that apparently derailed any other listening either of them did for a week and a half. They also work through a stack of new metal releases, Eden's ongoing Continuity Comics deep dive (cliffhangers with no resolution, going all the way down), and the inevitable sidebar about Ready Player One being one of the worst things ever committed to paper.SHOW NOTESContinuity Comics / Death Watch 2000 — Eden is deep into the indie comics boom-and-bust era. Death Watch 2000 (20 issues, zero through nineteen) ends on a cliffhanger because issue 20 never came out. The follow-up crossover, Rise of Magic, also ends on a cliffhanger — because the company went under. Eden is reading Ms. Mystic through all of this.Dungeon Crawler Carl — Peter is on book five (nearly six) of the LitRPG series. Eden remains skeptical on principle, largely due to the covers, a detailed bit about the Mantar illustration, and a Chuck Tingle tangent.Project Hail Mary (film) — Peter saw it in St. George during spring break and liked it. Eden knows the twist, is annoyed it was in the trailer, and delivers the hot take that the film is secretly about "exospecies gay love" — which, they argue, makes Andy Weir's claims to apolitical writing somewhat complicated.New metal releases rundown — Peter ran down a week where six metal albums dropped at once: Exodus's Goliath (disappointing
Our latest mix of the best new songs out now includes a stunning live version of Bon Iver's “Heavenly Father,” a track the band originally wrote for the 2014 film Wish I Was Here, but never made available to stream before now. We've also got a stirring new ballad from Tori Amos, Luxembourg indie rocker Francis of Delirium (who assures us this is, in fact, a beautiful life), the long-awaited (if complicated) return of influential metal band Neurosis and more.NPR Music's Lars Gotrich joins host Robin Hilton.(00:00) Intro(01:41) Bon Iver: “Heavenly Father” from VOLUMES: ONE (SELECTIONS FROM MUSIC CONCERTS 2019-2023)(08:25) Souled American: “Freeing Wheels” from Sanctions(13:58) Francis of Delirium: “It's a Beautiful Life” from Run, Run Pure Beauty(20:28) Tara Clerkin Trio: “Somewhere Good” from Somewhere Good(28:58) Tori Amos: “Stronger Together” from In Times of Dragons(35:36) Neurosis: “Untethered” from An Undying Love for a Burning WorldSupport the show with a review on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. We read a series that is not necrophilia in a roundabout way.
Scripture: Ephesians 6:24+ What you love most is the most important thing about you.“According to Augustine, ‘There is a scale of value stretching from earthly to heavenly realities, from the visible to the invisible; and the inequality between these goods makes possible the existence of them all.' God is one thing, angels are another, as are people, terriers, red oaks, squash, rocks, and dirt. Each item fits in God's overall scheme of creation. The nature of things in the hierarchy is unchangeable, and so is the kind of satisfaction it can provide when we are related to it through love. Because of these actual differences in things, the outcome of loving each actual thing will be different. There is a divinely designed fit between our needs, the character of the things that can satisfy them, and the way we should love them in order to be satisfied. Even though each thing God made is good, delightful, legitimate, and a source of satisfaction as an object of our love, we "must not expect more from it than its unique nature can provide." We must give love and praise to things apportioned to their worth. - David K Naugle, Re-Ordered Loves; Re-ordered Lives."Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship. And an outstanding reason for choosing some sort of god or spiritual-type thing to worship...is that pretty much anything else you worship will eat you alive. If you worship money and things—if they are where you tap real meaning in life—then you will never have enough. Never feel you have enough. It's the truth. Worship your own body and beauty and sexual allure and you will always feel ugly, and when time and age start showing, you will die a million deaths before they finally plant you...Worship power—you will feel weak and afraid, and you will need ever more power over others to keep the fear at bay. Worship your intellect, being seen as smart—you will end up feeling stupid, a fraud, always on the verge of being found out." - David Foster Wallace + What does it mean to love Jesus?- Adoration - thinking highly of Jesus.- Affection - feeling deeply for Jesus.- Allegiance - following faithfully after Jesus.Matthew 10:37–38“All of Christ is to be loved, and He is to be loved above all.” John Gill.Revelation 2:1-5Psalm 34:8 (NIV)+ ExaminePsalm 32:1–5 (NIV)+ Exercise+ Encounter

We love a good mystery. Hercule Poirot, ensemble casts, television shows, we enjoy them all. Though its target audience has always skewed older, we are huge fans of Murder, She Wrote. Recent news of a movie has us excited and we talk about who would make a great Jessica Fletcher. The 2019 Hellboy remake was a critical and commercial disaster. Still, few were surprised another reboot was in the works. The latest version seems to be taking a more streamlined approach but will audiences care?Undying Love seemed like the perfect pick. It has a thumbnail reminiscent of something out of the 1990s, the plot follows a troubled youth being entangled with a beautiful vampire, and the word “erotic” constantly comes up in descriptions of the film. The fact that it came out in 2022, only made it that much more interesting. We like to consider ourselves champions of indie film so when this movie that was released in 2022 looked like something from decade, it did not faze us. And as it turns out, Undying Love actually came out in 1991 though it looks like it was made in 1981. Even that would not be problem; the acting, story, and characters, however…Dance With Death came out in 1992 and looks like it. With a cast that includes Martin Mull and Lisa Kudrow in her first credited screen role, the film certainly has star power. The story may be bare bones (a reporter goes undercover as a topless dancer to catch a killer), but there is plenty of intrigue and great characters. It certainly does not skimp on the nudity, but there is much more to the movie than a bunch of naked women. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. The story of Elena Hoyos and the man who called himself Count Carl von Cosel is a Key West legend. It's a true story if unbelievable in its macabre details. Karl Tanzler, though everybody still refers to him as Von Cosel showed up in Key West in the 1920s where he worked as a radiologist at the local hospital. That's where he met Elena Hoyos. She was a beautiful young Cuban-American woman who had tuberculosis. Von Cosel fell in love with her, and he treated her for her illness. When the treatments did not work and she died that didn't end their story. Two years later, he took her body from the mausoleum and lived with it.... For seven years. My Special Guest is Ben Harrison Ben Harrison is the author of Undying Love, a shocking true Key West story of a passion that defied death. In writing this definitive and mesmerising tale of the most obsessive love imaginable, Ben Harrison did his homework thoroughly, studying numerous press accounts from the 1930s as well as the von Cosel memoir. What makes Undying Love so special are the interviews Ben conducted with those old enough to have known the story participants and the way things were in Key West during the 1930s... Ben has been a guest on The Howard Stern Show, This American Life, Dr. Demento, The Dick Cavett Show and more. Winner of the Adeline Turner Award for Outstanding Performing Artist, he has recorded ten studio albums and is currently working on his fourth full-length theatre musical. "Ben Harrison separates fact from myth and untangles the thread of intrigue in this gothic tale of obsessive love and melancholy madness." Danny Elfman, musician, composer, record producer, and actor. "This story has it all. Obsession, madness, even a sweet May December romance." Florida Sun Sentinel Karl Tanzler Karl Tanzler, also known as Count Carl von Cosel, was a radiologist in Key West, Florida, who developed an obsession for one of his patients, Elena Milagro Hoyos. The beautiful young woman died from tuberculosis in 1931. With her parents' permission von Cosel had an above ground mausoleum built for her. He visited the tomb every night and by 1933 he had taken the body home. Elena Hoyos Elena de Hoyos came from a small family. They couldn't afford an elaborate funeral after her death, her father made cigars and her mother was a maid. The Count made sure that Elena received a proper burial instead of the shoddy wooden box, which was the plan according to her family. Tanzler had Elena buried in a huge mausoleum, equipped with lighting, electricity, and a telephone connected to Elena's grave. In this episode, you will be able to: 1. Delve into the story of The Count and Elena, who they were and how their stories became entangled 2. Explore the responses from the local and wider community, family and friends 3. Hear from Ben Harrison on the subject who spent years researching and interviewing people around this case 4. Gain an understanding of the historical backdrop of Key West at the time. This week we cover a bizarre and twisted story of love, betrayal, and attempted murder. The Toto family was not your usual dysfunctional marriage. This was a coupling so passionate that divorce was not an option and in the end they proved that marriage can be a dark comedy of sorts. Our theme was Italian Mom and Pop Pizzeria. For dinner, we had homemade white pizza with mushroom, bacon and shallots and pepperoni pizza with dollops of garlic ricotta. For dessert, we tried Crazy for Crusts', Easy Brownie Pizza. Our drink was a local brew from the Cape May Brewing Company.
