Everyone wanted to talk about the laptop.Jonathan Tamayo wanted to talk about mahjong.Because before the 2024 WSOP Main Event title, the $10,000,000 score, and the most debated rail in poker, Tamayo was a kid in Houston playing games with his grandparents, getting bankroll money from his grandpa, trying to figure out PartyPoker, and learning the hard way like everyone else.He had the early online poker growing pains, the college poker games, the PartyPoker bad beat jackpot, the Sunday Million score, the first WSOP summer, the 2009 Main Event heartbreak, Black Friday, daily fantasy, backing, a cash game stable, and years of being very good without quite becoming that guy. Then 2024 happened. And somehow the guy who had already been deep in the Main Event before found himself back in the exact spot every poker player dreams about.Only this time, he won the whole thing. In this episode of The Table 1 Podcast, Jonathan Tamayo joins Art Parmann and Justin Young to tell the full story.Topics include: ♠️ Growing up in Houston with NASA parents and mahjong games ♥️ Grandpa casually funding the early gambling years ♦️ PartyPoker, online mistakes, and the bad beat jackpot ♣️ His first WSOP summer and $1,500 runner-up finish ♠️ The wildest $1/$3 game at the Rio ♥️ The 2009 Main Event run and Billy Kopp hand ♦️ Black Friday and falling behind the European solver wave ♣️ Daily fantasy swings, including a $900K football sweat ♠️ The 2015 Main Event and Joe McKeehen rail ♥️ Building a cash game stable ♦️ The 2024 Main Event run ♣️ LaptopGate, final table prep, and what actually happened ♠️ The heads-up live tell that helped swing the match ♥️ Winning the Main Event and what changes after $10M We also get into why the Main Event still matters, the truth about final table preparation, what people misunderstood about the rail, how poker strategy has changed, why the player pool is aging, and what poker's future problem might really be.This one is part origin story, part Main Event breakdown, and part answer to the controversy everyone had an opinion on.What's your honest take on final table rails using laptops?Timestamps 00:00 — Intro + 2024 Main Event Champ 01:43 — Houston Roots, Mahjong & NASA Parents 05:22 — Humble High School + Lazy-Good Student Life 07:56 — Cornell, Hotel School & Golf 11:02 — First Poker Games in High School 15:18 — Grandpa Bankrolls the Gambling 18:02 — PartyPoker, Western Union & Online Growing Pains 19:15 — The PartyPoker Bad Beat Jackpot 21:39 — Sunday Million Score + Bad 2008 Job Market 23:19 — First WSOP Summer + $1,500 Runner-Up Finish 25:00 — The Wildest $1/$3 Game at the Rio 34:08 — Turning Stone, Brian Hastings & Cornell Private Games 36:21 — 2009 Main Event Run Begins 38:16 — Day 3 Heater + Jenga Chip Explosion 42:44 — Billy Kopp Hand + 21st Place Finish 45:20 — Backing, Supernova Elite & Old-School 10Ks 50:30 — Black Friday + Falling Behind the Europeans 52:23 — Daily Fantasy Grind + DraftKings Hockey Championship 58:23 — The $900K Fantasy Football Sweat 59:13 — 2015 Main Event Run + Joe McKeehen's Year 1:02:23 — McKeehen Final Table Rail + Early “Laptop” System 1:04:54 — Cash Game Stable + Long-Term Backing Setup 1:06:58 — 2024 Main Event Begins 1:09:47 — Day 2 Heater + First All-In Risk 1:10:21 — “The Hand” That Changed Everything 1:12:09 — Day 5–8 Main Event Grind 1:13:29 — Final 18 + Dom Starts Coaching From the Rail 1:16:35 — From 15 of 18 to the Final Table 1:18:06 — 10 Left + The Queens Fold 1:23:25 — LaptopGate + Final Table Prep 1:29:02 — Heads-Up Live Tell Breakthrough 1:33:00 — Winning the Main Event 1:35:37 — What's Next + Staying in His Lane 1:37:53 — What He Did With the Money 1:38:30 — Poker's Future Problem Jonathan's Links X: https://x.com/driverseati Instagram: https://instagram.com/driverseati Table 1 Links Play with us in Vegas: https://table1.vegas

This week on the Ante Up Poker Podcast, the WSOP Main Event final table is locked and the “August Nine” are set to battle for $10 million and the bracelet at Paris Las Vegas. In Table Talk, we introduce some of the players, and the notable names who fell just short. Plus the mid-tournament shot-clock bombshell that had players fuming, the chilling story of a pro robbed after cashing, a record-breaking series, a downtown poker room makeover, and where the Ante Up Tour heads next. In Call the Floor, a first-time WSOP player, a ticking clock before the break, and a bathroom line that changes everything. One quick fold sparks a rules debate that has us asking: is this really worthy of a penalty? You make the call. For Hand of the Week, it’s $2/$4 Seven-Card Stud. Split aces look great off the deal, but one very scary board and a tricky opponent turn every street into a genuine decision. When your big pair is never the nuts, do you have the discipline to make the call that matters? And Joe wraps it up with a One Outer on aces, bad flops, and learning to be okay with the next best thing. We’ll see you at the tables! Click here for our Linktree. In the 990th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, which is sponsored by FanDuel Poker, Chad Holloway, Mike Holtz, and Ben Ludlow are at Level 9 Studios in Las Vegas, where they are joined by special guest cohost Remko Rinkema. The crew discusses the impromptu introduction of poker shot clocks on Day 7 of the 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. It was an unexpected development implemented after a 15-minute tank by Loren Klein on Day 6, and while it was technically allowed by Rule 80, a lot of players took issue with it, such as Chris Brewer and Patrick "Pads" Leonard. However, some players came out in support of it, such as Shaun Deeb, who was still in the tournament. Speaking of Pads, some thought he wasn't getting the airtime he deserved during his deep run in the Main Event. Was he blacklisted, or was it just bad luck? Chad then talks about live reporting on Jamie Dwan winning the $50K High Roller event over a stacked final table that included Daniel Negreanu, Bryn Kenney, and Kristen Foxen. Finally, Remko talks about PokerGO's He Brought $1,000,000 to the Biggest Poker Game of His Life video featuring Andrew "Ace" Pacheco, his new podcast, and other upcoming PokerGO plans. Oh, and did we mention that Chad is headed to California's Thunder Valley Casino this weekend for the $400 buy-in, $250K GTD PokerNews Cup as part of the RGPS Passport Season Finale?  A new PokerNews Podcast drops four times a week in July during the 2026 WSOP! In the 989th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, which is sponsored by FanDuel Poker, Chad Holloway honors the 20th anniversary of the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP) by chatting with a trio of players who made a name for themselves that year.  That includes Paul Wasicka, who finished runner-up to Jamie Gold in the 2006 WSOP Main Event and, a year later, went on to win the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship. What has the former young gun, who doesn't play much serious poker anymore, been up to over the past two decades? Find out here. Likewise, Sabyl Cohen Landrum finished 56th in the 2006 WSOP Main Event, making her the last woman standing by outlasting Annie Duke. ESPN captured it and vaulted her to temporary "Poker Boom" fame, but what is life like for her now? Finally, Chad caught up with Jon Friedberg, who topped a then-record 2,891-player field to win a $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em event for $526K and a gold bracelet. Friedberg has gone on to become a major player on the poker operator side of things with Poker Atlas, and part of that success stems from his big bracelet win. Copyright ©2026, Weird Darkness.Originally aired: December, 2021This episode of Weird Darkness moves from an immortal vampire said to haunt two centuries of high society, through history's most audacious prison escapes, into the bloody rise of a Las Vegas gambling kingpin, and ends among the haunted pews of America's churches. It opens in London in the early 1740s, where a man known as the Count of St. Germain charmed the upper classes with flawless violin playing, fluency in several languages, and a habit of handing out diamonds, prompting Horace Walpole — son of Prime Minister Robert Walpole — to describe him in a letter as odd and mad before the Count was arrested on suspicion of spying and released without charge. He surfaced next in Paris as a regular guest of Louis XV, working in a commissioned laboratory on fabric dyes and carrying out discreet missions, while gossip held that he could turn ordinary stones into jewels and had lived for hundreds or thousands of years, even claiming presence at the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. After reported appearances aiding Catherine the Great in Russia and a friendship with Prince Charles of Hesse-Cassel in Germany, where he was said to die in 1784, the story jumps to early-1900s New Orleans and a wealthy newcomer named Jacques St. Germain, who threw lavish parties yet never ate or drank, claimed descent from the Count, and bore an uncanny resemblance to him. The account turns dark when a woman leapt from his balcony into the street, telling police he had bitten her neck; St. Germain vanished overnight, leaving his belongings behind and several open bottles that proved to hold a mixture of wine and blood. From there the episode trades immortality for ingenuity, walking through the boldest jailbreaks on record. It runs from the 2016 Orange County escape, where Jonathan Tieu, Bac Duong, and Hossein Nayeri cut through walls and rappelled to a sixteen-hour head start, to Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán slipping out of Altiplano through a mile-long lighted tunnel in 2015, and Clinton Correctional inmates David Sweat and Richard Matt crawling through a steam pipe with tools handed over by prison worker Joyce Mitchell. Ted Bundy jumped from a Colorado courthouse library window, John Dillinger bluffed his way out of an Indiana jail with a wooden pistol painted in shoe polish, and yoga master Choi Gap Bok greased himself and squeezed through a six-by-eighteen-inch food slot in thirty-four seconds. The larger breakouts carry heavier counts: three men vanished from Alcatraz in 1962 on a raft of raincoats, more than 480 Taliban prisoners filed out of Kandahar's Sarpoza Prison through a thousand-foot tunnel in 2011, over a thousand Japanese prisoners stormed the wire at Australia's Cowra camp in 1944, and inmates at the Nazi death camp Sobibor killed eleven SS guards with homemade knives before running for the treeline.Next the episode settles in Dallas and then Las Vegas with Lester Ben "Benny" Binion, the cowboy-hatted racketeer who founded the World Series of Poker and shot rival bootlegger Frank Bolding in the neck in 1931, walking away with a two-year suspended sentence and the nickname the Cowboy. He killed gambling competitor Ben Frieden in 1936 and beat the charge after witnesses vanished, ran dice games and bookies out of Dallas hotels for high rollers like Howard Hughes and H.L. Hunt, then moved to Las Vegas in 1946 and turned the Eldorado into the no-limit Horseshoe, laying down the first carpet in a Vegas casino. His feud with Dallas gambler Herbert "the Cat" Noble ran through eleven attempts on Noble's life and killed Noble's wife Mildred with a car bomb before a mailbox blast ended Noble in 1951. Binion died on Christmas Day 1989 and was carried to the cemetery behind six black horses, while his son Ted was found dead in 1998 in a case that convicted Sandy Murphy and Rick Tabish of burglary but acquitted them of the slaying, with the missing silver bullion never recovered. The episode closes inside America's churches, where worship shares the building with the dead. At Most Holy Trinity in Brooklyn, built over a former cemetery, parishioners report the spirit of clerk George Stelz, murdered in 1897, alongside bells that ring on their own and a bloody handprint in the bell tower stairway. The Washington National Cathedral carries the echo of Woodrow Wilson's cane and charred figures from a 1946 fire, while New Orleans' St. Louis Cathedral is tied to voodoo queen Marie Laveau, socialite Delphine Lalaurie, and six men executed on its grounds. At St. Mark's Episcopal in Cheyenne, a Swedish immigrant is said to have sealed his dead coworker inside the unfinished bell tower wall to avoid deportation, and at St. Paul's Chapel in New York — where George Washington prayed on his inauguration day — the spirit of actor George Frederick Cooke is said to wander still, his actual skull having traveled from a Philadelphia medical library and, by lore, onto the stage as a prop in Hamlet.
