In the 936th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway, Mike Holtz, and Ben Ludlow are all in Las Vegas at Level 9 Studio to talk about the viral $2.4 million poker hand played between Antonio Esfandiari and Alan Keating. The hand, part of Super High Roller Cash Game on PokerGO, blew up fast and had the whole poker world talking. From there, the crew talks about the Daniel "Jungleman" Cates vs. sports bettor "Elf" boxing match, looks at a controversial hand from High Stakes Poker involving Sam "Señor Tilt" Kiki, and a winner interview with Andrew "Lucky Chewy" Lichtenberger after he notched a win at the PGT Kickoff Series. Other stories bantered about are Jeff Platt now being exclusive with the WSOP, how Arden Cho will probably be at the Oscars, the new PokerNews PowerStack Leaderboard for the 2026 RGPS Passport Season, and sharing which poker room on the Las Vegas Strip is unfortunately closing at the end of the month. In the 933rd episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway, Mike Holtz, and Ben Ludlow kick off Season 17 with some poker predictions for 2026. Will the Big Beautiful Bill's gambling tax situation be resolved or lead to big ramifications in the industry? Will Phil Hellmuth win his 18th gold bracelet? Would the World Series of Poker (WSOP) ever raise the buy-in for the Main Event? The triumvirate also covers recent stories, including poker players Galen Hall and Jason Somerville winning big in the Circa Survivor content, arbitration ending between Maurice Hawkins and Denise Pratt, and Lex Veldhuis returning to the streaming streets, albeit not as a PokerStars Ambassador. Similarly, Caitlin Comeskey's ambassadorship with PokerStars US came to an end, and got the crew asking, "Is there still value in poker ambassadors?" You'll also see a short interview of Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel chatting with Rep. Dina Titus about the aforementioned tax bill, hear about Jeremy Becker and Matthew Wantman winning titles at the Venetian, and another book giveaway for a copy of Jonathan Little's The Complete Poker Workout. Send us a textMartijn Schirp and I have known each other for nearly a decade. He first reached out after reading a meditation article I posted on Reddit—a message that changed my life and eventually led to us co-founding HighExistence and running transformational retreats together in Costa Rica.Since then, Martijn has lived several lifetimes: professional poker player who finished 102nd at the World Series of Poker, a crisis of meaning in Vegas that led him to a Buddhist monastery in Nepal, and then co-founding Synthesis—one of the first legal psilocybin retreat centers in the world, which partnered with Imperial College London and was called the "gold standard" of psychedelic retreats. Then it collapsed. In 2023, Synthesis went bankrupt, leaving hundreds of students and employees in limbo. Martijn got physically ill from the stress and spent years recovering—volunteering on a farm in Portugal, working with the soil, reconnecting with his teachers. Now he's back with something new: Upāyosis and "A Path Between Worlds"—a 12-month program that weaves Buddhist contemplative training with intentional psychedelic practice. It's the first time we've spoken in depth in years, and I was struck by how different he seems. As he told me: "I don't have to seek anymore. I think I've found it. Now it's more a question of deepening."In this conversation, we discuss:The intergenerational trauma he discovered through ayahuasca (tracing back to his grandfather in a German orphanage during WWII)Why he believes "the container is the medicine"What actually went wrong at Synthesis—and what he learnedThe Buddhist answer to whether psychedelics violate the Fifth PreceptWhy peak experiences aren't enough—and what "altered traits" requireAnimism, ecodelics, and our ethical relationship to non-human beingsWhy spiritual friendship is "the whole of the path"What his new 12-month program actually involvesI'm joining this program myself—not just as an endorsement, but because I've seen how thoroughly Martijn creates things, and I want to deepen my own practice. If you're someone who's had meaningful psychedelic experiences but feels stuck, or you're a meditator curious about how these paths might converge, this conversation is for you.Learn more: upayosis.comContact Martijn here.

Alan Keating entertains poker fans across the globe on high stakes cash streams with his fearless, crazy, and loose style. Now, Keating is taking his shot at poker tournaments. In this poker hand from the $25,000 buy-in 2024 World Series of Poker Paradise Main Event, he tangles with poker professional Alex Kulev near the money bubble. Kulev leads out on the flop and turn with complete air before putting Keating to the test for the majority of his stack on the river. Has Alan Keating lost his mind, because with just ace-high, Keating has no real option but to fold, right? When playing in a poker tournament, and you have 50bb or less after defending out of the big blind, it is game theory optimal (GTO) to have a leading strategy on certain flops that are good for your range. For example, on a low, wet & connected flop, the big blind will often have a slight range advantage since a lot of the suited and offsuit holdings that connect well on these flops will be defended. Again, it is important to make sure you are balanced in these spots by leading not only with bluffs, but also with value hands so that your opponents cannot easily exploit you. Alan Keating is a well known high stakes cash game poker player often playing in the biggest live cash games and private poker games around the world. He has over $230,000 in live tournament poker earnings. Keating has become more of a regular on the Hustler Casino Live stream. He is extremely popular amongst poker fans partly due to the fact that he wins and loses millions of dollars whilst always carrying a smile on his face! Keating has been seen associating with poker celebrities such as Dan Bilzerian. Alex Kulev ‘FutureofMe' is a professional poker player from Bulgaria. He has over $15,500,000 in live tournament poker earnings which puts him in the top 100 on the all time money list and 1st on Bulgaria's all time money list. He has 1 World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet which came from a $50,000 buy-in event at the 2023 WSOP. Kulev won $2,087,073 for his first place finish. The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Paradise was a No-Limit Hold'em and Mixed Games festival held from December 3rd – 14th at the Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas. Featuring 15 bracelet events that culminated in the $25,000 Main Event. $25,000 – 2024 WSOP Paradise Main Event – Results 1st: Yinan Zhou – China – $6,000,0002nd: Marcelo Aziz Jr. – Brazil – $4,600,0003rd: Mustapha Kanit ‘lasagnaaammm' – Italy – $3,600,0004th: Liv Boeree – England – $2,800,0005th: Christopher Nguyen – Germany – $2,100,0006th: Michael Addamo ‘imluckbox' – Australia – $1,650,0007th: Justin Bonomo ‘ZeeJustin' – U.S.A. – $1,300,0008th: Vadzim Lipauka – Belarus – $1,000,0009th: George Lehmann – Germany – $750,000 Preflop:Nearing the money bubble of the 2024 World Series of Poker Paradise Main Event, Alan Keating raises to 50,000 from the cutoff with AQ of diamonds and Alex Kulev defends with 83 of hearts in the big blind. Flop – 7s 6c 4c:The wet, low, connected flop is great for Kulev's range and he knows this, as he decides to donk lead for 35,000 with a gutshot straight draw. Keating calls with just two broadway cards, no backdoor draws but is currently ahead with his ace-high. Turn – 9c:The front door flush comes in on the nine of clubs turn, causing Kulev to lead out again, this time for 155,000, having picked up an open ended straight draw. Keating calls one more time still holding the strongest hand out of the two. River – 9s:The board pairing river doesn't deter Kulev as he leads out for the last time with a big bet size of 430,000 with just eight-high. Surely Keating can't call with ace-high and risk bubbling the tournament? Stay tuned to this poker video to see what Keating decides to do. The Author Events Series presents Steven Pinker | When Everyone Knows That Everyone Knows . . . In Conversation with Annie Duke Common knowledge is necessary for coordination, for making arbitrary but complementary choices like driving on the right, using paper currency, and coalescing behind a political leader or movement. It's also necessary for social coordination: everything from rendezvousing at a time and place to speaking the same language to forming enduring relationships of friendship, romance, or authority. Humans have a sixth sense for common knowledge, and we create it with signals like laughter, tears, blushing, eye contact, and blunt speech. But people also go to great lengths to avoid common knowledge-to ensure that even if everyone knows something, they can't know that everyone else knows they know it. And so we get rituals like benign hypocrisy, veiled bribes and threats, sexual innuendo, and pretending not to see the elephant in the room. Pinker shows how the hidden logic of common knowledge can make sense of many of life's enigmas: financial bubbles and crashes, revolutions that come out of nowhere, the posturing and pretense of diplomacy, the eruption of social media shaming mobs and academic cancel culture, the awkwardness of a first date. Artists and humorists have long mined the intrigues of common knowledge, and Pinker liberally uses their novels, jokes, cartoons, films, and sitcom dialogues to illuminate social life's tragedies and comedies. Consistently riveting in explaining the paradoxes of human behavior, When Everyone Knows That Everyone Knows... invites us to understand the ways we try to get into each other's heads and the harmonies, hypocrisies, and outrages that result. Steven Pinker is the Johnstone Professor of Psychology at Harvard University. He has won many prizes for his teaching, his research on language, cognition, and social relations, and his twelve books, including The Language Instinct, How the Mind Works, The Better Angels of Our Nature, Enlightenment Now, and Rationality. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, and one of Time's ''100 Most Influential People in the World Today.'' Annie Duke is an author, speaker, and consultant in the decision-making space, as well as Special Partner focused on Decision Science at First Round Capital Partners, a seed stage venture fund. Annie's latest book, Quit: The Power of Knowing When to Walk Away, was released in 2022 from Portfolio, a Penguin Random House imprint. Her previous book, Thinking in Bets, is a national bestseller. As a former professional poker player, she has won more than $4 million in tournament poker. During her career, Annie won a World Series of Poker bracelet and is the only woman to have won the World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions and the NBC National Poker Heads-Up Championship. She retired from the game in 2012. Prior to becoming a professional poker player, Annie was awarded a National Science Foundation Fellowship to study Cognitive Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her master's degree. In 2021 she returned to her alma mater as a Visiting Scholar, where she also teaches executive education. In 2023 Annie completed her PhD in Cognitive Psychology. In the 927th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway is joined by Connor Richards at Level 9 Studios to talk about the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) when it comes to poker content. The discussion stems from the recent controversy involving the World Series of Poker (WSOP) documentary No Limit, in which showrunner Dustin Iannotti admittedly used AI in edits involving Alan Keating's quotes. The show was pulled from YouTube by the WSOP as a result, and opened up a whole can of worms. PokerNews also pissed off Shaun Deeb with an AI oopsie of our own, while ClubWPT Gold's tweet stirred up a heated debate about marketing, women in poker, and more. It was a debate that Abby Merk jumped into headfirst while at the Asian Poker Tour (APT), where she booked a tournament win! From there, you can see highlights from the 2nd Annual Big Deal for One Drop Charity Event during F1 Las Vegas, which involved Phil Hellmuth, Jennifer Tilly, and Antonio Esfandiari, just to name a few. Oh, and the title came down to Deeb and Squid Games: The Challenge star Steven Jones. Watch to find out who won! Chad and Connor then recap recent tournament wins by Aaron Johnson and Jake Long at MSPT Ameristar East Chicago, Felipe Boianovsky taking down the Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) $50K Super High Roller, and Ted Jackson-Spivack claiming three CMSOP titles before they share what they're thankful for on this Thanksgiving holiday. Find out all about those stories and more in this week's episode of the PokerNews Podcast! A new PokerNews Podcast drops every Thursday at 8a PT / 11a ET / 4p UK time. In the 926th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway is joined by Mike Holtz and Connor Richards at Level 9 Studios to talk the latest stories in the poker world. That includes former WSOP Main Event runner-up Steven Jones making the top five in the finale of Netflix's popular Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2. Find out if the poker pro was able to win the $4.56 million top prize. They also dive into the debate fueled by Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth on how many World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelets there should be each year, who won the WPT bestbet Jacksonville Bounty Scramble, and why the Global Poker Awards are no more. Plus, the crew remembers Ulvis Alberts, the original WSOP photographer who recently passed away, while Connor shares details on the time he played poker on the North Korean border and his feature article on Lynard Skynard and the poker game they played on their ill-fated flight that led to a deadly plane crash. Oh, and did we mention that Sam Soverel shared a full-frontal selfie on social media? No? Well, he did. Note: Connor was a 3X World Series of Poker champion when this episode was recorded, and hours before his birthday earlier this month, he won his 4th World Series of Poker circuit championship! When life dealt him a losing hand, Connor Steinbrook didn't fold. He went all-in and stormed back. In this episode, Mike welcomes back four-time World Series of Poker champion turned real estate powerhouse to uncover how one man went from the chaos of online poker shutdowns to leading one of eXp Realty's most dominant teams—The Wolf Pack. Connor's story plays out like a classic comeback movie: a sudden crash, a crisis of identity, and a rediscovery of faith, discipline, and purpose that sparked an empire. He reveals how the skills that made him elite at the poker table—emotional control, precision under pressure, and relentless focus—became the foundation for scaling one of the largest and fastest-growing real estate groups in North America. But this episode isn't only about business, it's about the inner game. Connor breaks down his signature 10-45-45 Rule of Communication, showing why energy and emotion speak louder than words. He opens up about building mental clarity through visualization, solitude, and faith, and why mastering your mindset is the ultimate key to success. IN THIS EPISODE:
