On June 4th, 2019, country music singer Granger Smith was enjoying a final evening with his kids before heading to Nashville for the CMT Music Awards and his next tour. While helping his daughter London with her gymnastics, his youngest son fell into their pool. Granger did everything he could to get to him, but he was too late. River drowned, and Granger's world shattered. The days, weeks, and months that followed River's death sent Granger on a dark and painful journey. Every time he closed his eyes, he replayed the horrific event in his mind, and every time he opened his computer, he was bombarded by the critique and criticism of people who blamed him for the accident. Despite his best effort to get back on stage with a smile and song, it was all a façade. On the inside he was dying. Fortunately, that's not how his story ended. And now he is compelled to help people all around the world find strength, peace, and hope on the other side of tragedy. Tune in today to hear a heartfelt, tear-jerking, and vulnerable conversation as Granger reveals the messy path and process of mourning, yet also the ways in which God has met him in the midst of his mess time and time again. Live from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, Dan and Reid host former country singer, now minister Granger Smith out in God's Country. This episode was taped backstage at the 2024 iHeart Country Festival, where the guys talked with Granger about topics ranging from his Yee Yee brand, to ministry, to writing his new children's book, Up Toward The Light. Granger goes in depth on what it was like taking his son on his first dove hunt and daughter on her first mission trip. He shares his godly wisdom with the guys and explains that while his exit from music wasn't an easy one, he now has "Peace Like a River" over his transition into ministry full time. “I LOOKED OVER MY SHOULDER, AND THERE HE WAS, FACE DOWN, INSIDE OUR GATED LOCKED POOL……HE WAS LIFELESS, HIS FACE WAS BLUE……”“THE DOCTOR CAME IN AND TOLD US THERE WAS ZERO PERCENT CHANCE OF HIS BRAIN EVER FUNCTIONING RIGHT AGAIN……”I warn you, this is not an easy episode to listen to, and you will cry just like I did. This week you're going to hear the emotional and tragic story of country music superstar GRANGER SMITH.Every parent's worst nightmare came true for Granger and his wife, Amber, in 2019 when their son, River, drowned in a pool accident, plunging Granger and his family into a world of deep despair. But his story is also about a man finding a path of REDEMPTION AND PURPOSE after a spiritual encounter, leaving the music business behind to pursue a future in ministry, which Granger details in his recently released book, Like a River: Finding the Faith and Strength to Move Forward After Loss and Heartache.Although losing his child is a difficult story to hear, Granger's story is also about FAITH, HOPE, and finding PEACE after your world has been turned upside down.Since that moment, he has sought ANSWERS to the most profound questions in life, taking him in new directions he never could have imagined.Above all else, our hour spent together is a deep discussion of how GOD impacts our lives in ways we can't begin to understand until we're going through challenging times. From these times, one of the great LESSONS OF LIFE is that when rising from the worst of all imaginable tragedies, we are often reborn…And just like Granger Smith, we find our TRUE LIFE'S PURPOSE as part of our healing process.

In a heart-wrenching testimony of tragedy and perseverance, country singer/songwriter Granger Smith recounts the horrific event that took his 3 year old son from this earthly life. He and his wife Amber used their life-changing experience to learn the hard way – the path to overcoming, endurance, and life-giving counsel and encouragement to others. Amber is the founder of Yee Yee, an American lifestyle brand of clothing. In this episode you will hear: • After being invited to appear on Granger's first video, Amber didn't know if they might take her out in the middle of nowhere and murder her. • There's more to the meaning of a tragedy than reason because reason doesn't always make sense. • What can we learn from [River's] one thousand days? • After facing death, it opens your eyes as to what truly matters. • Another day forward is so valuable. What about today? Today is what we have. Even if you can deal with today, deal with this hour. If you can't deal with this hour, deal with the next minute. If you can't deal with this minute, deal with the next breath. Pretty soon, there comes a perspective, and your brain becomes more clear. • I hate five year plans. • When we came home, our kids had written on the driveway with chalk, “Welcome Home River.” • [Musically], I know there'll be some River stuff comin' • Rivers organ donations saved two adults. • You gotta take care of yourself. Wake up at the same time every day, brush your teeth and comb your hair. • You're not gonna have these days forever. • I try not to think about why because that mental slide show plays over and over. • “One more kiss” [Amber] • I can't think of the future, I need to focus on the now. [Melanie] • There is a purpose for disaster. It's not ever going to be understandable. It's never going to be logical.
Some know the music. Some know the brand. Some know his alter ego - Earl Dibble Jr. But, few have ever heard these stores and even fewer have seen these photos. Granger Smith opens up about his career, his YEE YEE brand, his family and even loss in this episode of PICTURE THIS! with The AntMan.
