Come January, when lawmakers sit down for the new legislative term in Olympia , there will be several new faces. More than a dozen legislators make up the new freshman class, and they’ll be facing what some have described as a ‘perfect storm’: the state is bracing for an anticipated 10 to 12 billion dollar budget gap. It’s been nearly 15 years since Washington faced a fiscal shortfall this significant. Back then, at the center of finding the cuts, and compromises, to deal with it -- was state representative and then-Speaker of the House -- Frank Chopp, of Washington’s 43rd Legislative District. But lawmakers won’t be drawing on Chopp’s negotiating expertise this time around. He announced back in March that he would not be running for reelection. Throughout his tenure in Olympia, Chopp championed new laws related to housing, homelessness, and mental health – still just as relevant today as when he was first elected, in 1994. Seattle Nice was on our best behavior this week because had company—Scott Greenstone, a politics reporter at KUOW radio and host of the new KUOW podcast Sound Politics! We discussed the statewide election results (Scott reported that the vibe at Republican gubernatorial candidate Semi Bird's party was weirdly "optimistic") and the race to replace Frank Chopp as 43rd District state rep, where Chopp-endorsed Shaun Scott ended the night with more than twice as many votes as We Heart Seattle founder Andrea Suarez, whom even the Seattle Times didn't endorse.And, of course, we talked about Seattle's only local election—the race for City Council Position 8, where incumbent Tanya Woo was trailing challenger Alexis Mercedes Rinck by a wide margin on Election Night. (The gap has only widened since then). Ontem o congresso surrou o Lula e barrou censura, saidinha e impostos. Mesmo aprovando impostos em importações com valor menor de 50 dólares, ainda não foi na porcentagem que o governo queria. Além disso, o governo não conseguiu vencer o veto 46, que evitava a censura no Brasil. Não conseguiu levar pra frente o projeto de apoio e financiamento ao MST e não conseguiu fugir do projeto da proibição das saidinhas para presos. No meio disso tudo, a Tabata Amaral, aqui de São Paulo, acompanhou o governo Lula em todas essas decisões. E ainda tem gente que dirá que ela é moderada. O Lula e o PT continuam perdendo força e apoio no congresso, e isso vai impactar nas próximas eleições municipais. Alzheimer's educator and activist Rebecca Chopp, Ph.D., joins Being Patient Live talks to discuss her upcoming book “Still Me: Accepting Alzheimer's Without Losing Yourself.” As she discussed in a previous live talk with us, she'll also be speaking about how she defies the stigma of Alzheimer's by living with joy. Before Chopp's diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's in 2019, she was a widely published author, editor, and academic in the fields of education, philosophy, religion, and feminism. In particular, she served as the 18th and first female chancellor of the University of Denver. She has also served as president of Swarthmore College and Colgate University, as Provost at Emory University, and as Dean of Divinity at Yale University. Since her retirement, Chopp has devoted her days to living with joy. She enjoys painting classical portraits and abstracts, hiking in the Colorado mountains with Buhdy, her dog, and spending time with friends and family. She also co-founded the advocacy group Voices of Alzheimer's and serves as a board member of both the Alzheimer's Association's national organization and its Colorado Chapter. In addition to her writing and art, she is a frequent speaker on timely diagnosis, research for a cure, access and affordability of drugs, and lifestyle interventions for those with Alzheimer's. Recentemente o Zema de Minas Gerais e o Adriano Silva de Joinville retiraram a restrição da necessidade de vacinação para matrícula escolar de crianças nas redes públicas.
