Tune in as filmmaker Joshua R. Pangborn (Sidekick Productions) returns to the podcast for a breakdown of Marvel's Agent Carter, the two-season MCU TV show that premiered in 2015 and follows secret agent Peggy Carter as she embarks on espionage missions with the help of a few allies while wrestling with the daily challenges and misogyny that come with living as a single woman in the 1940s. A disability depiction that's handled respectfully enough for the mid-2010s, a character's military backstory sending Arthur into a rant, and a non-irritating usage of the love triangle trope comprise a few of this episode's talking points. Created by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Agent Carter stars Hayley Atwell, James D'Arcy, Chad Michael Murray, Enver Gjokaj, Shea Whigham, Dominic Cooper, Bridget Regan, Lyndsy Fonseca, Ralph Brown, Kyle Bornheimer, Lesley Boone, Reggie Austin, Wynn Everett, Kurtwood Smith, Currie Graham, Lotte Verbeek, Ken Marino, and Sarah Bolger. Kyle is an actor and comedian who also happens to be married to Disney president Shannon Ryan. Kyle returns to HBO with Avenue 5 as the husband in space hell with his wife who he loves/hates played by long-time friend Jessica St Clair. He also plays the caring and clueless dad of the 90s in the Tegan and Sara-inspired show High School on Amazon's Freeevee. Hey, it's your cool Aunt Melissa asking you to gather around. I watched something so that I can bring it to you, the families. Props to me, because this wasn't pleasant. I'm not happy about it. This week, I did something for the kids and for the mom and dads who just want to lay on the couch and turn something on for their kids. This week, I watched Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made.  This week, I'm coming at you from the streaming service of Disney Plus. We have Disney Plus. We got it the morning it came out. It's actually really good. There's a ton of stuff for my kids to watch. One of the offerings they have is called Out of the Vault and it's the old movies I grew up with like Cinderella. The other day the kids and I sat around the television and watched Swiss Family Robinson.  I grew up watching this kind of stuff and it's wonderful to share it with my kids. Kudos to Disney plus. I love what they're doing. They're also creating some original shows. This week they put out an original movie made for the streaming service. It was a Friday night, and we were all at home chilling out. We let the kids pick the movie. It was the newest release of the week called Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made. Show Notes: [03:00] I think, if I'm not mistaken, this movie is about an 11-year-old boy who thinks he is the best detective in town. He runs an agency called Total Failure with his best friend who is an imaginary polar bear. [03:54] All I can say about this movie is parents listen up. If you're feeling sick, and you think you're coming down with something, turn on this movie you'll be out in a second and the kids will love it. [04:08] What kid thinks he's running a detective agency in his closet? Also, he wears a red scarf everywhere. [05:04] Every time this kid's parents asked him a question his answer would be, "mistakes were made." My mistake would be putting the wooden spoon away.  [06:06] Why did they name the polar bear Total? [07:02] Now I know why they wouldn't let Kyle Bornheimer talk in a Marriage Story.  [07:51] After the movie was over David said, "I hated that kid." [08:28] He didn't have a good personality.  [08:39] The movie is clean and family-friendly. The kids liked it.  [08:59] Rocco thought it was cool because it showed that kids have imaginations. Remi thought it was funny and quirky. [09:59] This is a zero Spanx movie. My kids liked it. Maybe, sometimes, that's what matters.  Links and Resources: Eat Cake. This is my first movie review. There are so many choices out there that I just picked one. I was interested in this movie when it was first released, and I watched it the day of the release on TV. In the middle of watching this movie, David came in and said that we got the domain for Stream(H)er, and the podcast was going to be a reality. That's when I decided that this is the movie that I'm going to do.  If you don't like my choice or have another movie you would like me to review give me a shoutout on Instagram @MsMelissaRadke. You can also find me on Facebook or message or email me at Melissa@MelissaRadke.com. Ask me, and I’ll try to get to it. When you share our show don’t forget #Streamher as in girl power.  When I chose this movie I didn’t know what it would turn into. I just knew I wanted to review it. I didn’t know it would end up with six Golden Globe and six Academy Award nominations. Here is my review for Marriage Story. It’s a movie streaming on Netflix.  Show Notes: [02:12] I didn't know what this movie would turn into. I just knew I wanted to review it. I didn't know it would have six Golden Globe and six Academy Award nominations. [02:55] This week's streaming service is Netflix.  [03:34] This movie is directed by Noah Baumbach.  [03:54] A marriage story is as plain Jane as marriage is. Once the glitter is off, we become a marriage story. [05:14] I wasn't rooting for anyone after watching this movie. There wasn't a bad guy. I saw both of their points. That was a plus for me. [06:20] Laura Dern is getting a lot of attention. She was a really great divorce lawyer. [07:00] Alan Alda killed it as the first divorce attorney who was too kind. [07:59] Kyle Bornheimer was also in the movie, but he didn't have any speaking parts.  [08:33] Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansen were the leads. They were both incredible.  [09:12] There is a scene where Adam Driver sings that didn't resonate with me. [09:45] How can two people who love each other so much end up so far apart? This was at the heart of the movie and this is at the heart of most marriages. [10:07] They have an intense discussion in the movie, yet she refers to him as "honey." I thought this was really powerful how she fell back on words and rhythms that were in her marriage.  [10:53] Go watch a Marriage Story. It is worth it. It deserved all of the nominations and awards.  [11:03] I was going to make my first Spanx review a 4 just because of the Hallmark movie girl in me. I wanted everything to be wrapped up in a bow, but I’ll give it a 5 Spanx review.   [11:52] Go watch it. 5 Spanx! Links and Resources: Eat Cake. Mo Perkins earned an MFA in directing from UCLA’s School of Film and Television. Her master’s thesis film, Piss Hat, was nominated for a student Academy Award. Her writer/directorial debut feature was an independent film called A Quiet Little Marriage starring Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Cy Carter, Jimmi Simpson, Michael O’Neill, Charlie Day and Melanie Lynskey. On the festival circuit, it won many awards including the Grand Jury Prize at Slamdance, and it was distributed by IFC. Her second feature film was a comedy called The Last Time You Had Fun starring Demetri Martin, Eliza Coupe, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Charlene Yi and Kyle Bornheimer. The film premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival and was distributed by Gravitas Ventures. Most recently Mo directed the second season, six episodes, of a romantic musical comedy called I Ship It for the CW. The movie that Mo has chosen is just a delight - 1986's Little Shop of Horrors. Mo discusses how this movie meant so much to her personally, as it was one of the first films she saw after leaving her commune. April and she talk about the two different endings of the film and how the original was roundly rejected by preview audiences. Mo also elaborates on being flexible during shoots, working on low budget films, and facing the scenes that she was scared to direct. You can see I Ship It on the CW. And if you haven't seen Little Shop of Horrors yet, go watch it! With April Wolfe and Mo Perkins. You can let us know what you think of Switchblade Sisters on Twitter or Facebook. Saluton! It is I, Tyson Saner, your Audio-Tour-Guide or something like that.  Come with me, won't you, as we explore assorted points of interest in Soundcastland for the next hour or so. Friend-of-Succotash Hunter Block sports his new tee I've got some good ones for you.  There are clips from Launch Left, Raised By TV, Whiting Wongs, Doughboys, Wife of The Party and The Movie Court,  In addition we have a single shot of Raging Moderate Will Durst's "Burst O' Durst" (and if you're in San Francisco in the coming weeks, check out http://themarsh.org for tickets and information on his live show The Durst Case Scenario.) This installment is brought to you by Henderson's Breakaway Trousers, and I thorw in a couple of shout-outs for good measure. CLIPS LAUNCH LEFTThis show kicked off their first episode on Halloween, October 31st, of last year. According to the description on the Launch Left webpage: "Rain Joan of Arc Phoenix and Moon Unit Zappa interview extraordinary minds, mavericks, and pioneers in their unique fields. As two women from artistically uncompromising families, Rain and Moon celebrate non-conformists who achieve success by doing it their way, and support "left of center" emerging artists." That is to say...the show features established musicians promoting or "curating" less mainstream musicians.  Their guests are referred to as  "curators" and in this clip from December 26th of 2017 the curator is none other than Moon Zappa's brother Dweezil Zappa, who gives a humorous lesson in tri-tones... RAISED BY TVAmong my favorite improvisors that I hear on soundcasts such as Scott Aukerman's Comedy Bang Bang and Matt Besser's Improv4humans are Lauren Lapkus and Jon Gabrus. They have a soundcast together called Raised By TV which is described on their homesite thusly: "When Jon Gabrus and Lauren Lapkus were growing up, they watched a lot of TV. Like, a LOT of TV. Now adults with minds hopelessly warped by television, they've come together to indulge their shared obsession. On Raised By TV, Jon and Lauren revisit the best and worst TV of the late 80s and early 90s — everything from game shows and TGIF to Oprah and cereal commercials." They recently announced that Season Two of Raised By TV kicks off this April 11th. WHITING WONGSWhiting Wongs is described on iTunes as "An honest conversation about race and writing between two people who think very highly of themselves. Dan Harmon and Jessica Gao know they won't solve racism in Hollywood, but they still like to talk about it. Sometimes with guests!" By IMDB, "Jessica Gao is a writer and art director, known for Silicon Valley (2014), Rick & Morty (2013) and Lab Rats (2012). If you need credits for Harmon, perhaps you're listening to the wrong genre of soundcasts. OUr featured cli've clipped episode 4 titled "They invented those finger traps" from November 2nd, 2017 because it is the first episode  that was recorded after people had had the chance to listen and respond to the first three episodes. DOUGHBOYS "The podcast about chain restaurants," as the Doughboys listing on iTunes tells us, continuing: "Comedians Mike Mitchell and Nick Wiger review fast food/sit-down chains and generally argue about food/everything. Nick is a writer and actor, known for NTSF:SD:SUV, Matthew Perry's Testimony (Pt.2), and A Christmas Story: Only I Didn't Say Fudge. Mike is an actor and writer, known for The Birthday Boys, Love, and Michael Bolton's Big, Sexy Valentine's Day Special." Guest Bobby Lee  is credited with appearing on 162 episodes of the long-running sketch comedy show MAD TV. I deviate slightly from the norm in terms of presentation for this bit of 'soundcastery", as you'll hear it serves the content of this show better. WIFE OF THE PARTYIf you listen to comedian Bert Kreischer's soundcast Bertcast on the All Things Comedy network, you might have heard his wife LeeAnn Kreischer appear as a guest in some of the episodes. On January 31st, LeeAnn's very own soundcast dropped on iTunes and the description of Wife of the Party reads as follows: "Wife of comedian Bert Kreischer talks to friends in the mancave about, marriage, family, and what its like to be married to the life of the party." I would also like to point out the delightful "live reads" LeeAnn and Bert do for Bertcast's various sponsors.  As a fan of advertising I'm quite partial to their Blue Apron reads. (Executive Producer note: Attention, @BlueApron: We have advertising slots available on Succotash!) THE MOVIE COURT Movies finally get their day in court. Here's the online description of this unique soundcast: "Overrated classics. Unsung masterpieces. One Prosecutor. One Defense Attorney. And one judge. The Podcast that puts the movies you love or hate on trial, to decide their fate. Once and for all." That's a great description...the soundcast is as though each film was on trial to be sentenced to "movie jail" with amusing results. The Prosecutor is Stephen Krueger, the Defense is Kyle Bornheimer and Ryan (JUST Ryan) is the Judge. The clip Ive selected for you is from the 12th episode posted November 20th, 2015. (They haven't dropped an episode since January 1st of 2016 ... but I'm reluctant to send this show to the Soundcast Graveyard just yet...) EPILOG Before I leave you I'd like to give aknowledgement to a couple of soundcasters: First, a shout out to host Steve Owens of Fascination Street - a soundcast I featured in the episode of Succotash before this one.  Mr. Owens has been very vocal on Twitter about having been featured on Succotash and I appreciate it a great deal. (Cheers, Sir, and thank you for passing the Succotash!) Iraj Lopez of High Content Podcast has also given Succotash a shout out on his 29th and a 1/2 episode of his soundcast. I play it toward the end of this episode. High Content is one of several soundcasts that I listen to regularly.  This is in addition to what might be several episodes of YOUR soundcast when  I'm combing the internet looking for digital bits of corn, bacon or lima beans to incorporate into this succotash that is Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. If I hadn't been a consistent listener of High Content there's really no telling how long it may have been until I heard the kind words Mr. Lopez had for us. So if you do give or have given the show a mention in your soundcast, don't be shy. Contact me, Tyson Saner, on Twitter @RevT23, Executive Producer Marc Hershon on Twitter at @hershco and the show at @SuccotashShow. That way I'll be able to properly express my gratitude in as timely a fashion as I can. And that's another in the can... or the pan as it were.  If you haven't been entertained I do hope the lingering scent of bacon is some small comfort.  My thanks to you for listening. I'm grateful each and ever time you decide to spend time with us here. So I'll bid you farewell for now and gently remind you to please pass the Succotash... — Tyson Saner

We're joined this episode by Eli Craig, writer/director of Tucker & Dale Versus Evil, and Little Evil, an offbeat comedy about love, family, and The Antichrist, which just recently debuted on Netflix. Little Evil stars Adam Scott as Gary, a newlywed struggling to acclimate to the role of stepfather to his disturbingly bizarre step-son, Lucas. Even as his therapy sessions with other step-dads assure him that all step-children are a little evil, increasingly odd situations revolving around the boy drive Gary to believe Lucas might actually be the spawn of Satan. The film also stars Evangeline Lily, Bridget Everett, Donald Faison, Chris D’Elia, Kyle Bornheimer, Clancy Brown, and Sally Field. We talk with Eli about the long journey of Little Evil, from big budget Universal picture trapped for years in development hell, to a breakneck production for Netflix. He explains the challenges genre mash-up films face when finding distributors and audiences. And we discuss how he assembled a great cast of comedic talent on a small budget.

Episode 16 - “One Sentence Would Solve Everything" The Donut Crew returns yet again to the deep well of Kyle Bornheimer’s failed pilots with WORST WEEK. This one-and-done, single-season CBS disaster proves yet again that even a perfectly grumpy TV dad can’t lift a poorly executed farce out of the muck. We talk about sitcom plot contrivances, the discomfort hearing the term “vicious dwarf” causes, missing the point when you adapt another show, how much weed is too much, the delicate timing of farce, and why beautiful TV women inexplicably date men with nothing to offer. But in the end, do we recommend “Worst Week?" Listen, and find out!

Today's Guest: Nancy Lenehan, actress, "Worst Week" It takes a certain kind of woman to play Angela, Sam's mother-in-law on the hysterical new CBS sitcom, "Worst Week." Nancy Lenehan is that woman. Nancy Lineman, actress, Worst Week One week, she and her husband—the judge—are getting busy under his desk. Another week, she rides a cello down a flight of stairs. Oh, and did you happen to see the one where Sam walks in on her in the gynecologist's office and sees her you-know-what? And then writes a magazine column about it? Lenehan has been a guest star on dozens of hit sitcoms over the years, ranging from "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "Malcolm in the Middle" to "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and she’s Earl Hickey’s mother on "My Name is Earl." To me, “Worst Week” is one of those show—like “The Office” and even “Seinfeld”—that marches to its own rhythm and needs time to find its audience. It is slapstick funny and yet has moments of warmth and tenderness like no other sitcom on the air today. If you haven’t watched it yet. You should. Now. Angel from Hell is a high concept comedy starring Jane Lynch as the titular character. Jane Lynch stars as Amy, a down on her luck Guardian Angel, who is somewhat desperate to have her earthly assignment, Allison (Maggie Lawson) accept her help and guidance. Dr. Allison Fuller is skeptical, but willing to befriend Amy, despite partially believing that her, "guardian angel" is probably just a crazy person. This sitcom has a stellar cast with incredible chemistry. Starring as Allison's brother Brad is Kyle Bornheimer, and the incredible Kevin Pollack stars as Allison's father Dr. Marv Fuller. The first episode is heavy on setting up the premise, so give this Angelic comedy a chance, the proceeding episodes are a lot of fun, and very funny.
