Jeanette and Megan from ImprovTeamCulture.com bring a short and insightful episode to revisit anonymous notes given by attendees at the CAPTIVATE Leadership Communication Summit in Boise Idaho fall 2023. Each of these grievances weren't able to be addressed live in front of the audience, so they decided to share the REAL issues that people are currently experiencing in their workplace. REAL people shared things that are REALLY happening in their place of work in modern day. Aren't we all sick of having the same issues year after year after year without any action to create a better work environment? Sheesh. WE ARE. We'd love to hear any insights that come to mind and also connect with us on IG @ImprovTeamCulture or visit ImprovTeamCulture.com to bring in some leadership communication training that will spark the action you are seeking. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/meganmccaleb/message

"It may not seem like it, but we are winning on gun violence prevention!" Long-time Illinois-based gun violence and criminal justice reform advocate, Sara Knizhnik, helps equip us with helpful, hopeful information around one of the hottest topics in our nation: gun violence. We will never end the gun violence epidemic in America until we recognize that if a child on the south side of Chicago is not safe, then a child in an affluent community is not safe - because all gun violence is related. So, we must address the acute problem of gun violence that happens every day while simultaneously addressing its root causes - especially by addressing the inequities in the criminal justice system. My adoption story from 22 years ago eventually led me into advocating that adoption should be presented as an option for women who find themselves faced with an unplanned pregnancy. And spending time in this space of such a sensitive subject led me to becoming, straight up, an advocate for women to be empowered with access and information to ALL options as they select the permanent decision that THEY feel is best for THEM. I'm an advocate for LOVE. Facing an unplanned pregnancy is freakin' TOUGH and pushing your agenda on a woman in crisis helps NO ONE. We do not have to agree with people to love them. YES, people we know and love (and also perfect strangers) will make choices we do not agree with. AND, it's their choice to make. Their life to live. I promise that loving someone through their trials will do wonders for your relationship vs casting your judgment and building a wall with your “yeah, but” perspective. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meganmccaleb/message

Mark and Jeff are adoptive dad's who joined me to share their journey to adoption. They have a wonderful story of their own path to parenthood and embrace the role they serve in the world to educate and inspire others in the LGBTQ+ community to "just go for it" if building a family through adoption is on their hearts. Their story is one of inclusivity, overcoming past barriers in their belief of what was possible for their own family, and enthusiasm for the future of adoption as a perfectly viable option to create the new "normal" in family dynamics everywhere. We were also joined by Stephanie Pearl, Executive Director for A New Beginning Adoption Agency, who has been a trailblazer in creating families based on LOVE, not on societal, cultural, or religious expectations. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meganmccaleb/message

At any given time there are well over 400,000 kids in the US Foster System, and these young humans have ended up in this system at no fault of their own. There is often a history of trauma from abuse, neglect, and the inability of their caregivers to provide food, shelter, and safe place to grow physically and emotionally. When a kids' basic needs are not met, they are being set up for failure and a higher risk to become a statistic in the most undesirable ways. We need more families who have a passion for kids and are willing and desirous of creating a safe place to land for these youngsters. It's a challenging road and a lot of training and prep is needed for prospective adoptive families to understand how to navigate trauma and give their newest family member a true sense of stability. About the guest: Amber Kidd, BSW is the Foster- Adopt program coordinator at A New Beginning Adoption Agency. She has almost of decade of experience working in adoption. Her primary roll now is to help prepare families for permanent placement of their child. In addition, she is the key social worker in advocating on behalf of A New Beginning foster-adopt program families to nearly 4000 child caseworkers across the United States. Amber has been essential in building such a successful program, creating and facilitation post placement services, family support and education that increases child placement permanency (fewer disruptions). If she isn't working directly with families, she working directly with a child's caseworker advocating for placement with the right family. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meganmccaleb/message
This episode features Cara Walsh, a social work veteran and adoption specialist with A New Beginning Adoption Agency. We talk about what support tools and strategies can best serve each member of the adoption triad as they work through an incredibly emotional and life changing experience. “Ignorance is a lack of knowledge,” so we hope that this episode gives you a boost of new information that will help you be a good supporting role for friends or family in your life who are touched by adoption. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meganmccaleb/message
As National Adoption Month continues, we are stepping into the world of transracial and transcultural adoption. We will learn more specifically what those terms mean, and how they impact the dynamics of an adoption scenario. My guests, Stephanie and Jenna Pearl are an adoptive mother and daughter, who was adopted from China, who are eager to share their story in hopes of broadening the conversations around this topic so others can navigate the experience with more confidence. If you need access to resources for adoption, on any side of the triad, please reach out to adoptanewbeginning.org, where you can find the support and tools you need to find joy in your journey. Adoptees - join in the conversation with YANA, a support program specifically for adopted kids/youth/young adults, with a mission to remind you, You Are Not Alone. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meganmccaleb/message
November is National Adoption Month and for the next several episodes I'll be sharing some different perspectives and stories through interviews with people in the adoption space. Adoption covers a large spectrum of dynamics and my goal during this month is to help create a safe place for conversations to be had around a challenging topic. This episode recounts a bit of my personal story of a hidden-unplanned-pregnancy-turned-adoption story, and I read a chapter from my award-winning autobiography, “Not My Plan; Sucking it in Until I Had to Push it Out.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meganmccaleb/message
I recently ran my first 10k and honestly one of my favorite things about pushing myself physically to try and reach for something new is that I always seem to find these experiences as a time for reflection on my life and all of the things that define WHO I am as a person. And just like running/jogging/walking a 10k one step at a time, so must I continue heading towards the more refined person I want to be and things that I want to accomplish with my life. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meganmccaleb/message
On a recent trip to the grocery store (WinCo on Fairview and Milwaukee in Boise Idaho to be exact) I had three very pleasant interactions and thoughtful conversations that had me thinking of moments from my past, my current struggles, and a glimpse of a future with a bright and sunny attitude even when things are a struggle. Although I'm no Ebenezer Scrooge - I have been pretty grumpy for a while, having a hard time letting go of some things that really piss me off. And I can tell I'm choking a bit on a victim state with a couple issues in particular. I hate when there is a lack of resolution and I hate being taken advantage of. So, in the spirit of self reflection and a desire to move forward - I'm grateful for the people who were interactive in engaging with me with their personal life perspectives as I roamed about the store unsuspectingly. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meganmccaleb/message
We gotta stop calling our passions, our interests, our goals in life “little.” We may not always feel like everything we do matters, but in so many ways, our “little” efforts, or our natural talents and passions we see as a hobby might be a VERY big deal for our own growth. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meganmccaleb/message

When it hit me like a bolt of lightning that it was time to change my name back to my maiden name there was no looking back. This change brought me such clarity and excitement for the future by returning to myself. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meganmccaleb/message
Refusing to even accept that other people have a valid opinion, even if we don’t AGREE with them basically just implies that we think we are smarter or in some other way, BETTER, than other people. While that might be true...that attitude is no way to help create a more peaceful society. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meetmeganbryant/message
When you’ve been a disciple of improv principles for as long as I have, y’think about not only how powerful the word “yes” can be, but also how to couple it with the best kind of intentions and energy to use “yes” for good, and not as a destroyer of hopes and dreams! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meetmeganbryant/message
