Sometimes the moments that challenge your identity the most end up reshaping your entire relationship with money. In this episode of Money Tales, Bobbie LaPorte shares what it looks like to navigate financial highs and lows with humility and resourcefulness. After years of corporate success, Bobbie found herself asking a very different question. What do you do when the path you expected disappears and you still need to move forward? Bobbie's story is candid and full of hard-earned perspective and thoughtful generosity. Bobbie is a leadership advisor, executive coach, Founder and CEO of Bobbie LaPorte & Associates, where she helps leaders navigate volatility, complexity, and constant change. She works with Fortune 500 companies, global organizations, and high growth start-ups to build confident leaders who can think and perform at their best when the ground is shifting. Bobbie brings rare credibility to the conversation, having served as a CEO, COO and CMO in multiple Fortune 50 companies, including IBM, GE, and UnitedHealthcare, as well as leading two healthcare technology start ups. Bobbie is the and author of When the Curveballs Keep Coming. She holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Master's in Positive Leadership and Strategy from IE University in Madrid. Known for blending real world executive experience with science-based insight, Bobbie helps leaders strengthen personal agency, confidence and decision making under pressure. Her work spans keynote talks, leadership workshops, enterprise learning programs and one on one executive coaching. When she's not working with leaders, Bobbie is training for her seventh Ironman triathlon—often alongside her two Golden Retrievers on Bay Area trails. Here are three money conversations this episode will help you navigate: 1. How your relationship with money is shaped early and evolves over time. Growing up between abundance and scarcity, Bobbie learned to be self-sufficient and still carries that lens into how she saves, spends and supports others today. 2. What it really takes to get through financial uncertainty. Bobbie shares the reality of starting over, including the humbling decision to take any job available while building something new, and how that shaped her confidence and independence. 3. How to define “enough” when success keeps raising the bar. Through her work with high-earning clients, Bobbie brings a grounded lens on balancing ambition and wealth with the relationships, health, time and everyday experiences that often get pushed aside in the pursuit of more. In 2011, Stéphane Bancel walked away from the security of leading a 6,000-person diagnostics company to join a startup of about 50 people, built on an idea most scientists had dismissed: that messenger RNA could become medicine. Almost everyone told him not to do it. He gave the bet roughly a five percent chance. Nine years later, that same bet helped the world face a pandemic in 63 days.Stéphane Bancel is the Chief Executive Officer of Moderna. Under his leadership the company designed a COVID-19 vaccine on a computer within days of the genetic sequence being posted, delivered the first dose to a human just 63 days later, and scaled from zero manufacturing to a billion doses in twelve months. Today Moderna is building personalized cancer vaccines and using AI to reinvent how medicines are discovered and made. This conversation sits right at the heart of what I believe about leadership. That the chief executive is really the chief energy officer. That the boldest decisions are rarely about appetite for risk, they are about the asymmetry between what you could give the world and what you could actually lose. Stéphane lives both, and he is refreshingly honest about the storms, the doubts and the mistakes along the way.In our conversation, we explore: → The five percent bet: how he weighed an enormous upside against a manageable downside, and why his wife was the only one who said yes → What sailing without GPS taught him about staying calm when the storm hits, and why a storm always passes → The 63-day sprint, and the Sunday phone call that saved the manufacturing of a billion doses → Why he slowed a trial down so it would be a vaccine for the world, not a vaccine for white people → The future he sees: personalized cancer vaccines, the human body mapped in silico, and why he calls chemotherapy tomorrow's barbaric history“I still believe that we have not invented yet our best drug.” Stéphane Bancel, CEO of ModernaIf you have ever faced a decision that everyone around you called too risky, this one is about how to think, and how to stay calm, when you choose to leap anyway.

Donna Hicks spent three decades at the world's hardest conflict tables and found one hidden injury beneath them all: a violation of human dignity. From the Middle East to Northern Ireland, she watched negotiations stall not over policy, but over something no one in the room had named. This episode is the word that changed everything, and the model she built around it.Dr Donna Hicks, author of Leading with Dignity and Associate at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University, spent her career as a third party in unofficial diplomacy across the Middle East, Sri Lanka, Colombia and Northern Ireland. She co-facilitated the BBC series Facing the Truth alongside Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and her earlier book, Dignity, reshaped how the world understands conflict, connection and leadership. This one runs close to home for me. As a young boy from a Pied-Noir family — French people of European origin who had left Algeria after its independence — newly arrived in Nice, I was once told by a schoolmate to “get out of here.” I came home devastated. My father's answer, that I should be proud of where I came from and that I had something real to give, was dignity restored long before either of us had a word for it.In our conversation, we explore: → Why respect is earned but dignity is not, and how leaders who confuse the two quietly damage their teams → The ten elements of dignity, and the single one that 80% of employees say is violated most at work → What happened when the BBC sat victims and perpetrators face to face, and why healing did not require forgiveness → Why Donna now teaches dignity to eight-year-olds, and her advice to young leaders entering a harder world → Mandela consciousness: the three connections that rebuild dignity in any team, family or boardroom"I don't believe we need to find common ground. I believe we need to find higher ground." - Dr Donna Hicks, Harvard UniversityIf you have ever watched a meeting derail over something that was never really about the agenda, this conversation hands you the missing word, and a practical model for what to do next.

On this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast, Jon Gordon sits down with Micah McElveen, founder of Vapor Ministries, for a remarkable conversation about purpose, transformation, and living a life that echoes in eternity. Micah McElveen's story begins with devastating adversity—an accident as a teenager that left him dead on the beach, miraculously brought back to life, but facing total paralysis and a future filled with uncertainty. As Micah McElveen recounts his journey from ICU to recovering movement, wrestling with his identity, and enduring years of grueling rehab, he shares how those hardships became the ground where faith, empathy, and a deep sense of purpose were forged. From being the popular quarterback to the overlooked kid in the shadows, his perspective shifted to one of compassion and a desire to leverage his second chance to serve others. Through honest reflection, Micah McElveen opens up about the pain and mystery of near-death experiences, the gradual process of rediscovering hope, and how desperate pursuit of God's presence preceded a revelation of purpose. Ultimately, this journey led him to start Vapor Ministries—an organization dedicated to alleviating extreme poverty, empowering communities, and sharing practical hope with thousands across Africa and Haiti. Listeners will hear powerful themes of empathy, resilience, living with urgency, and the eternal significance of investing your "vapor"—this brief life—for something far greater than yourself. Whether you're navigating adversity, seeking clarity on your own purpose, or wondering if brokenness can become a gift, this episode offers hope, inspiration, and a stirring reminder that your hardest moments can become the starting point for extraordinary impact. About Micah: In 1995, Micah learned life was a Vapor when he broke his neck in a near-fatal surfing accident. God also opened his eyes to purpose. Not able to play football, he picked up soccer and went on to play in college, where he earned a degree in Intercultural Studies. There Micah met his bride and a shared passion to serve the poor and reach the lost emerged. In graduate school, he traveled to Africa and was broken by extreme poverty. Awakened by the experience, a vision to alleviate poverty and multiply disciples birthed Vapor Ministries. He is a follower of Jesus, a husband to Audrey, and a father to Arrow and Given. Author of, "Dying For Purpose, " Micah speaks across the country inspiring people to make a difference while providing leadership for Vapor Ministries. Dr. Laura welcomes Hall of Fame speaker, author, and workplace culture expert Michael Kerr for a conversation on how leaders shape environments where people and organizations thrive. Drawing on decades of global experience, Michael believes that, rather than depleting us, work should energize us, and that leaders play a defining role in creating cultures grounded in purpose and connection. He shares that leadership is less about managing tasks and more about influencing people in meaningful ways. According to Michael, the leadership goal should be to become a culture leader who recognizes the profound effects of work on our health, relationships, and sense of identity. Together, Dr. Laura and Michael explore how small, everyday moments can have a lasting impact on trust and team cohesion. Culture is built through consistent, human interactions rather than grand gestures. They highlight the importance of simple acknowledgments and thoughtful communication in fostering hope during uncertain times. They also examine the rise of incivility in workplaces and the cost of tolerating harmful behavior, together reinforcing the importance of awareness and accountability in leadership. The message is a powerful reminder that when leaders prioritize people and lead with intention, they not only transform workplaces but also contribute to a better world. “Leadership is about connecting with humans and influencing them in a positive way toward a better future.” - Michael Kerr “Leaders have a disproportionate impact on the happiness of their employees and the success of their culture.” — Michael Kerr About Michael Kerr: Michael Kerr, CSP (Certified Speaking Professional), Canadian Speaking Hall of Fame inductee, is an international business speaker, very funny motivational speaker, workshop trainer, and the author of six books including, Inspiring Workplaces: Creating the Kind of Workplace Where Everyone Wants to Work, and, most recently, The Humor Advantage: Why Some Businesses Are Laughing All the Way to the Bank. Michael travels the world researching, writing, and speaking about inspiring workplace cultures. He is known as one of North America's leading speakers on workplace culture and on how businesses leverage their humor resources to deliver outrageous results -including lower absenteeism rates, lower employee turnover rates, less stress, more creativity, more effective communication, and increased sales. His hilarious, inspiring, and thought-provoking programs are often rated as having the greatest impact and relevance of any presentation at a conference, which is why Michael is listed as one of Canada's most requested funny motivational business speakers. Lauren shares her personal transformation from battling "collector at heart" tendencies in her home to uncovering the deeper reasons behind clutter and consumerism. She candidly describes the "perspective pivot" that changed her life, how she learned to curate her space based on what she truly uses, loves, and needs, and the power of letting go—not just of stuff, but of the scarcity mindset and guilt that keep so many stuck. Together, we dig into the heart of Lauren's book, Own with Intention, exploring her signature practices like the Mindful Exchange, counting the inflow, and practical steps for couples and families with different approaches to their stuff. Lauren explains why minimalism isn't about owning less for its own sake, but about creating space for more of what matters—energy, focus, connection, and making a meaningful impact. If you've ever struggled to release the things weighing you down, or you want to live a more intentional, empowered life in your home and beyond, this episode is a reminder that you can own your story, your space, and your future—one intentional step at a time. She's a National Board Certified fourth-grade teacher, a mom of three boys, and the author of the upcoming book Own with Intention: 20 Minimalist Practices to Create Space for What Matters Most. Through her own journey from overwhelm to intentional living, Lauren discovered that minimalism isn't all about ridding yourself of things. Minimalism is really about leadership of your life—deciding intentionally to create space for what matters most. Today she's helping people rethink their relationship with possessions so they can stop managing things and start living with greater clarity, purpose, and impact. Beschreib dich selbst mal mit drei Wörtern. Fällt dir schwer? Wozu solche Spielchen?
On this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast, I sit down with John Olinger—author, consultant, and former Nike marketing leader—for an honest and insightful conversation about his new book, Worthy Wins. John's journey is shaped by both professional achievement and personal loss: from a decade with Nike working alongside elite athletes and the world's most advanced technology, to navigating the unexpected death of his father and the perspective-shifting realization that time is both scarce and uncertain. In our conversation, John shares the story behind Worthy Wins, the powerful concept of getting radically clear on what matters most, and why so many of us risk "winning" at the wrong things without ever realizing it. Together, we explore John's lessons from the corporate world—where clarity and alignment can mean the difference between organization-wide momentum and wasted effort—as well as his personal life, where the true measure of success lies in relationships and intentional living. John opens up about the tensions between accomplishment and connection, the influence of mentors like Kobe Bryant, and practical strategies for identifying your own worthy wins, whether leading a team or navigating your family. About John, John Olinger spent a decade as a Brand and Digital Marketing leader for Nike and Jordan Brand, including three years captaining Global Marketing for Kobe Bryant. He reached a career inflection point after the unexpected passing of his father and left Nike in 2022 to become a consultant, author, and speaker. His first book, Worthy Wins, came out in 2025 to help individuals and organizations win in the places that matter most. John was recently tapped to become the President of Unitus, a Christian footwear and apparel brand, started by NBA player Jonathan Isaac. John is married to his AMAZING wife, Erin, and they are raising three energetic boys in Florida. Here's a few additional resources for you… Do you feel called to share your story with the world? Companies built on love outperform the S&P 500 by 14 to 1. Conscious capitalism, stakeholder leadership, healing organizations — Raj Sisodia proved it with data, then spent a year in the Himalayas and the Amazon proving it on himself.Raj Sisodia, Co-Founder of the Conscious Capitalism movement and author of sixteen books including Firms of Endearment and The Healing Organization, grew up across four countries and eight schools before the age of 18. He trained as an electrical engineer in India because that was what you did if you were good at math. He stumbled into a PhD at Columbia almost by accident — following seven friends to pick up a GMAT application and ending up the only one who made it to New York. From there, he built a body of research that fundamentally challenged Milton Friedman's doctrine that the only business of business is profit. Then, at 60, he turned that same rigour inward: pilgrimages to the high Himalayas, silent retreats with Peter Senge, and the painful reckoning with a father who once pointed a gun at him. This conversation runs close to what I have lived. When I watched Satya Nadella introduce "model, coach, care" at Microsoft — a framework Raj references directly — I saw firsthand what happens when a leader chooses purpose over power. And Raj's conviction that business must actively heal what it has broken echoes what drove me to create Live for Good: the belief that the organizations we build should leave people stronger, not depleted. In our conversation, we explore: → Why companies that spend 95% less on marketing than competitors have the highest customer loyalty — and what that reveals about extraction-based capitalism → The four pillars of Conscious Capitalism — higher purpose, stakeholder integration, conscious leadership, conscious culture — and the specific acronyms (HEALING, SPICY, SELFLESS) Raj uses to make them actionable → The Bob Chapman story: how one CEO refused to lay off a single employee during the 2008 crisis by asking "What would a family do?" — and emerged stronger than every competitor → His year of conscious awakening at 60 — pilgrimages, silent retreats, ayahuasca in the Amazon — and what four women forced him to confront about his own unhealed trauma → What conscious capitalism demands of AI: the marriage of humanity's most important idea with its most powerful technology — and why the market will ultimately correct for unconscious companies
On this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast, I sit down with Grant Udinski, offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars, for a candid and inspiring conversation about his unconventional journey from a multi-position college football player to coaching at the highest level in the NFL. Grant's path is a testament to relentless pursuit, adaptability, and the power of being obsessed with your craft—from early days playing every position on the field, to shifting between offensive and defensive coaching roles, to gratefully learning under renowned leaders like Matt Rhule and Kevin O'Connell. Grant shares the lessons forged in challenging seasons, the growth that came from embracing uncertainty, and how developing a holistic understanding of the game shaped him into the coach he is today. Together, we explore Grant's passion for process over results, the importance of building genuine relationships with players like Trevor Lawrence and Sam Darnold, and the impact of working alongside exceptional mentors. He opens up about the joys and sacrifices of his work ethic, the balance between obsession and fulfillment, and the fulfillment that comes from contribution to a winning culture. Whether you're a coach, an aspiring leader, or simply someone striving for excellence in any field, this episode offers authentic wisdom about loving the process, staying relentless in pursuit of your calling, and focusing on being a winner in the moment. Grant's story is a powerful reminder that your journey—and your growth—are every bit as meaningful as the destination. About Grant, Grant Udinski is helping shape a new era of Jacksonville Jaguars football. In his first season as offensive coordinator, he played a key role in building one of the most dynamic offenses in franchise history, guiding the team to record-breaking production and a high-powered, balanced attack. With the leadership of head coach Liam Coen and Grant's coaching, quarterback Trevor Lawrence took a major step forward, delivering a career-best season and emerging as one of the league's top playmakers. Udinski's influence extended across the entire offense, with multiple players reaching new career highs and the unit consistently performing among the NFL's best. Before arriving in Jacksonville, Udinski spent three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, where he helped develop quarterbacks and contributed to a consistently productive offense. His work there included supporting standout seasons from veteran and young quarterbacks alike, showcasing his ability to elevate talent at every level. Still early in his NFL coaching career, Udinski has quickly earned a reputation as an innovative offensive mind and a strong developer of players. Now in Jacksonville, he's focused on continuing to build a winning culture and helping the Jaguars compete at the highest level. What does it take to start a global movement when you feel like the world isn't listening?Today, my guest is Vanessa Nakate, the pioneering Ugandan climate justice activist, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and founder of the Rise Up Movement. Vanessa's journey began in 2019 with a solitary strike outside the Ugandan parliament. Since then, she has become one of the most powerful and necessary voices in the global fight against climate change, demanding that the Global South—the communities most impacted by the crisis—are no longer ignored.Vanessa's story is a profound lesson in Positive Leadership. In 2020, she was famously cropped out of an Associated Press photograph with her white peers at Davos. She didn't retreat. Instead, she boldly stated, "You didn't just erase a photo. You erased a continent," using that moment of erasure to spark a vital, worldwide conversation about race, media, and climate justice. In this episode, we explore what true, intersectional leadership looks like. Vanessa passionately argues that we cannot separate the climate crisis from poverty, inequality, and the empowerment of young women. In our conversation, we explore:→ How she found the courage to strike alone in Kampala, and how to take the first step when you have no followers→ The Davos incident: How to turn being erased into a platform for global empowerment→ Why climate justice IS social justice, and why educating girls is a critical climate solution→ Building the Vash Green Schools Project to bring solar power to over 75 schools in Uganda→ Why she chose to step back from the frontlines to pursue a Master of Public Policy at Oxford, and how she plans to bridge activism and policy"When you are working with people, when you know that you have community, then it's easier to sustain the activism work in whatever field that you're working in... find your community, and it will make activism much easier." — Vanessa NakateIf you want to understand what it really takes to lead a movement, build resilience, and fight for a future that includes everyone, this conversation will deeply inspire you.

What happens when one of Silicon Valley's most accomplished engineers decides the system he helped build is broken—and walks away to fix it? Today my guest is Raffi Krikorian, CTO of Mozilla and one of the most civic-minded technologists I know. We explore why the fight for open-source AI isn't just a technical debate; it is really a fight for who controls our relationship with knowledge itself. Raffi's career path is uniquely fascinating. He spent his early years scaling massive engineering teams at Twitter and launching Uber's first self-driving fleet. But then he did something rare. He pivoted to public service, becoming the first-ever CTO of the Democratic National Committee to rebuild their cybersecurity from the ground up. He then went on to drive social-impact technology at Emerson Collective, applying his engineering mind to systemic issues like immigration and climate change. At Mozilla, he is now on the frontlines of the AI revolution. We talk about what it means to be "technically optimistic" right now—which also happens to be the name of his excellent podcast. For Raffi, optimism isn't about blind faith in algorithms. It's about demanding that our tools are trustworthy, transparent, and built to serve humanity, rather than exploiting it. In our conversation, we explore: → The Twitter crash that taught him his job was not to be the architect, but to create the conditions for others to do their best work → Why he left Uber's self-driving program after discovering their models misclassified people based on skin color → How a week of Google Sheets transformed an asylum-seeker nonprofit more than any AI chatbot could → His conviction that we need seven billion AGIs—one for each of us—not seven controlled by massive corporations → Why patience, not speed, is the leadership skill that actually builds movements "We have outsourced dreaming to a few people who are building companies and we all need to dream again." — Raffi Krikorian, CTO, Mozilla If you have ever wondered whether the technology on your phone is truly working for you—or for someone else—this conversation will completely change how you think about what comes next.
On this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast, I'm joined by Super Bowl-winning head coach Mike Macdonald for an inspiring, authentic conversation about faith, leadership, and building a championship culture. Mike opens up about his remarkable journey—from wrestling with self-doubt and societal expectations as a college student, to trusting his calling in coaching, and ultimately leading the Seahawks to Super Bowl glory. Together, we explore how Mike's faith has been a guiding force in his career, the power of gratitude in success, and why embracing trust, connection, and servant leadership can transform not only teams, but lives. We dive deep into the making of a special locker room—where belief, vulnerability, and love fuel daily excellence, and where tough and connected became more than just slogans: they became the heartbeat of a championship season. Mike shares candid insights on overcoming the pressure to be "worthy," learning to lead with humility, and empowering those around you to grow and find their edge. From stories about family sacrifices to moments of pure joy with loved ones on and off the field, every bit of this conversation brims with humanity and hope. Whether you're navigating new opportunities or searching for what it means to come together as one, this episode is a reminder that great teams—and great leaders—are built in the moments of connection, commitment, and unwavering faith. Tune in for an episode that will encourage you to lean into your calling, value your journey, and trust that sometimes, the breakthrough you seek comes from believing—together—that your best is truly enough. Karol Ladd - Positive Leadership Principals by Bill and Sandi Griffin
What if the greatest turnaround in modern corporate history wasn't driven by financial engineering or restructuring, but by an unshakeable belief in science and human talent? In this powerful episode of the Positive Leadership Podcast, I welcome Pascal Soriot, CEO of AstraZeneca—a visionary leader who transformed a struggling pharmaceutical company into a defining global force in oncology, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory care. He is also someone I know personally: I had the privilege of serving on the AstraZeneca board between 2008 and 2016, and I was in the boardroom when we appointed him as CEO. What makes Pascal's leadership so rare is his non-traditional ascent. He didn't start with an elite corporate playbook; his foundational lessons were grounded in learning the value of loyalty and protecting his people. By beginning his professional life as a practicing veterinarian, he developed a profound sense of empathy—traits that continue to drive his unwavering commitment to putting patients first today. But Pascal's story isn't your typical corporate trajectory. Raised in a humble background where he learned early lessons about loyalty, standing up for his team, and defending his territory, he began his professional life not in business, but as a veterinarian. It was this experience that profoundly shaped his empathy and his "patient-first" approach to leadership. In our conversation, we explore:
On this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast, I sit down with Brian White, veteran football coach, Harvard alum, and author of the upcoming book 'The Locker Room is Not for Sale', out now! Brian opens up about his forty-year journey through some of college football's leading programs, sharing powerful lessons on what makes the locker room a place for genuine connection, growth, and authenticity. Together, we discuss the challenge of nurturing team culture in today's world of NIL and big money, and why true success is built on brotherhood, unity, and the power of the human touch—not just on transactions or talent. Hear why "real is real, real is rare, and real has no color," and learn how anyone, whether coach, leader, or teammate, can wake up flying, attack the day, and capture the moment. Brian shares so many gems. You'll walk away inspired to build stronger, more unified teams and communities, both on and off the field. Check out Brian's new book, The Locker Room is Not for Sale! About Brian, Brian White is a career college football coach who has literally traveled the country for forty years and counting….chasing his passion for coaching and developing young men to be the best that they can be and reach their "genetic ceiling". During his decorated career he has been to the mountaintop celebrating a national championship while at Notre Dame in 1988, 2 Rose Bowl victories at Wisconsin, and coached 1999 Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne. He has also looked into abyss while going through a winless season coaching the Washington Huskies in 2008. To say he has seen it all in his career is an understatement! He is a proven developer of talent as the seemingly endless list of draft picks serves as testimony. Ron Dayne, Michael Bennett, Lee Evans, Aaron Gibson, Chris McIntosh, and Hall of Famer Joe Thomas were all ist round draft picks from Wisconsin while he was their coordinator. Chris Chambers, Brandon Williams, Cecil Martin, Chris Pressley, Brooks Bollinger, Jim Sorgi, Jonathon Orr, Brian Calhoun, Bill Ferrario, Casey Rabach, Al Johnson, Mark Tauscher, Ben Johnson, Dan Buenning, Owen Daniels and Mark Anelli were all NFL draft picks under his leadership. While at Syracuse for two years he put his NFL stamp on RB's Curtis Brinkley, Delone Carter, and WR Mike Williams. While at Florida he coached NFL players like Chris Rainey, Jeff Demps, Mike Gillislee, Matt Jones, Mack Brown, Aaron Hernandez, and Jordan Reed. At Boston College he recruited ist round draft pick WR Zay Flowers and 2nd round draft pick RB AJ Dillon. Both finished their careers as the all time leading receiver and rusher in school history respectively finding "diamonds in the recruiting rough" is his passion and developing them to their peak performance best is his daily pursuit as he jumps out of bed and attacks every day…. His players can hear his voice bellowing his mantra "play as hard as you can as fast as you can for as long as you can and be a great teammate"…..nothing else really matters. What if the stories you inherited about who you're supposed to become—from your family, your industry, your own fears—are the very narratives holding you back? In this powerful episode of the Positive Leadership Podcast, I welcome Nicholas Thompson, CEO of The Atlantic, a visionary media executive who has led transformations at The New Yorker and WIRED, and an extraordinary marathoner who set an American record in the 50K at age 45. But Nick's story isn't just about professional success or athletic achievement. It's about the conscious choice to rewrite the narrative we inherit. Nick grew up watching his brilliant father—a Rhodes Scholar and academic star—whose life eventually “cracked up” due to alcoholism and personal struggles. Around Nick's 40th birthday, his father warned him: “All men's lives fall apart at this age.” That was the script Nick had inherited. A story of inevitable decline. But Nick refused to live that story. In our conversation, we explore:
On this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast, I sit down with Frank Kelly, CEO of Kelly Benefits and author of Love and Go: 12 Powerful Truths for a Blessed Life. Frank's story is rooted in family legacy, faith, and a commitment to generosity, growing a business alongside his brothers from humble beginnings to a 500-employee company, all while keeping love as its cornerstone. Frank shares the inspiration behind his new book, revealing how a spiritual awakening at Cornell University transformed his perspective from religion to relationship. He opens up about distilling four decades of "notes and quotes" into twelve life-changing truths, including the power of God's word, the importance of praise, and the impact of giving generously. Through personal stories like helping a friend heal family relationships through forgiveness, and the blessings that flowed from choosing faith and praise, Frank models how simple truths can be hard to live out but radically transformational. Whether you're seeking deeper purpose or practical ways to align your life with faith and love, this episode is a heartfelt reminder that living a blessed life is about loving fully, going boldly, and investing in what truly matters. You'll walk away inspired to seek truth, give generously, and experience the joy of sharing love with others.
On this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast, I sit down with Steve Robinson, pastor, leadership practitioner, and author of the upcoming book Soul Leadership. Together, we dive deep into the vital connection between leadership, trauma, and healing, exploring how leaders can move from burnout and brokenness to wholeness and real impact. Steve opens up about his personal journey, sharing honestly about years of compounding trauma—including the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and the intense pressures of leading a growing church. These experiences led him to the edge of burnout, and ultimately to a powerful path of healing and discovery. Drawing from research, theology, therapy, neuroscience, and his own life, Steve reveals why caring for a leader's soul is so central to personal and organizational success. Throughout our conversation, several key themes emerge: the difference between simple exhaustion and deeper trauma, the science behind how stress and adversity affect the brain, the critical role faith and community play in emotional healing, and how adversity can become the catalyst for wisdom, empathy, and post-traumatic growth. Steve breaks down practical strategies for building resilience, the process of healing both brain and mind, and why true leadership starts with inner wholeness and connection. If you're a leader navigating challenges or want to support those around you, this episode is packed with encouragement and insight. Steve's story and research are a powerful reminder that your pain can become your purpose—and that transformation is possible when you lean into healing, connection, and the power of your soul. You'll walk away inspired and equipped to face setbacks and emerge even stronger. About Steve, Steve Robinson is a pastor, speaker, and author and the founding pastor of Church of the King—a growing multisite church with campuses spread across the US and internationally. Under his leadership, Church of the King has launched new locations from South Louisiana to Cape Town, South Africa, and built a thriving online community that reaches people around the world with a message of hope and purpose. A graduate of Tulane University with a Doctor of Ministry from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, Steve is passionate about helping people grow in their faith, discover their God-given potential, and live with clarity and resilience. He serves on the board of Equip, a global leadership organization founded by John Maxwell, and is the author of several books, including Decide to Thrive, Perspective Shift, and Hope Again. With a passion for helping people grow and thrive, Pastor Steve is dedicated to guiding others in their faith and everyday life. He and his wife, Jennifer, live in the New Orleans area and have four children—Isabelle and her husband, Stone, and Conrad, William, and Annaliese. In this new episode of the Positive Leadership Podcast, I'm delighted to welcome Katarina Berg, a leader who has redefined HR and culture for the digital age. As the long-time CHRO of Spotify and now Chief People Officer at On, Katarina has been at the helm of some of the most intense “hyper-growth” stories in tech history. But her journey started long before boardrooms—growing up sailing the world and being homeschooled on the ocean taught her a vital lesson: You cannot control the waves, you can only adjust your sails. In our conversation, we dive deep into her philosophy of “Controlled Chaos,” a bold approach that challenges the traditional command-and-control models of corporate leadership. Together, we explore a fascinating reality: What happens when you trust your employees enough to let them work from anywhere—not just as a perk, but as a business strategy? Katarina reveals how the “Work From Anywhere” policy at Spotify unlocked talent globally, and how she is now applying similar principles of trust and speed at On. But the real revolution isn't just about policy. It is about connection. We discuss her famous “Walk and Talks”—solving complex business problems on mountain trails rather than in meeting rooms—and how staying close to nature makes us better decision-makers. In this episode, we cover: The Origin Story: How a childhood spent navigating high seas shaped her resilience and adaptability as a leader. The Philosophy: Why “Controlled Chaos” is essential for innovation, and why rigidity is the enemy of growth. The Strategy: How to implement a “Work From Anywhere” culture that actually works (and isn't just hybrid theater). The Method: The power of the “Walk and Talk” to break down barriers and foster deep human connection. The Future: Her advice for the leaders of 2030: “Dare to be bold, lead with your heart, and always lift others as you rise.” Katarina reminds us that Positive Leadership is not about choosing between high performance and human care. It is about realizing that you cannot have one without the other. I hope you'll enjoy this energizing conversation with Katarina Berg.
In this final episode of our special series dedicated to AI, I'm delighted to welcome MacKenzie Price, a Stanford-trained psychologist turned education revolutionary and co-founder of Alpha School. We often hear that AI might disrupt education, but MacKenzie is proving that it can actually save it. After her own daughter told her that school was “boring,” MacKenzie didn't just complain—she built a radical new solution from scratch. In our conversation, we dive deep into the Alpha School model, a bold approach that challenges the industrial “factory model” of education we've accepted for a century. Together, we explore a fascinating reality: What happens when you use adaptive AI to handle core academic learning? MacKenzie reveals that her students achieve mastery in just two hours a day. But the real revolution isn't the speed. It is what happens with the rest of the time. We discuss how this efficiency frees up space for what makes us truly human: “Life Skills.” From public speaking and financial literacy to resilience and high-impact collaboration, we explore how to raise children who are not just good test-takers, but changemakers. In this episode, we cover: The Origin Story: How a moment of frustration sparked a movement to rethink K-12 education. The Mechanics: How AI tutors allow teachers to stop being "lecturers" and start being "Guides" and mentors. The "2-Hour" Paradox: How accelerating academic learning actually creates more room for creativity, connection, and depth. Agency & Leadership: How to give children the autonomy to own their learning journey. The Future: What the world looks like when we raise a generation of purpose-driven, self-aware leaders. MacKenzie reminds us that Positive Leadership is about having the courage to rethink systems that no longer serve us. Whether you are a parent, an educator, or a leader interested in the future of human potential, this conversation offers a blueprint for a world where technology amplifies our humanity rather than replacing it. I hope you'll enjoy this visionary conversation with MacKenzie Price.
