What up Fellas!
What up Fellas!

Didn't you know I was waiting on you? Waiting on this ep that hadn't come through? Gabe and Collin are back again with the controversial Mr. West. Fresh off graduating, he lost his mother and called off his engagement. He turned to his 808 and messed around with autotune, and what did it do? It created a classic album that gave other artists the courage to sing raps to give the track pain. Find out what Gabe and Collin Love (and hate) about this album on the latest episode of Hey! That's the Name of the Album!

Dan discusses the impact Kanye West's 4th studio album had on his career and the music industry.

When 1980s electro and freestyle music from Miami, New York, and Los Angeles touched down in Rio de Janeiro and other Brazilian cities, it ignited a wildfire in the minds of local DJs and soundsystem operators. Out of the hoods – in Brazil known as favelas – emerged the ass-shaking sounds of baile funk. You may have heard baile funk hits by Pablo Vittar, Diplo & MIA, and Karol G, but on this episode we're taking it way way back to the roots. Raised in Fortaleza in Northeast Brazil, Priscilla Cavalcante a.k.a. House of Pris joins me to talk about her experiences in first-wave baile funk and plays us some of the most important samples and beats that started the whole movement. We also talk about her baile funk party in Miami, Florida called Proibidae, the process of saving lost anthems of the 1990s, plus furacão, pancadão, and the wild wonderful world of Brazilian funk parties. Hosted by Vivian Host (aka Star Eyes). For more, follow @ravetothe.grave on Instagram and visit RavetotheGrave.org.

This week Carla and Joy embark on a myth-busting mission against this supposed abortion-Black genocide connection. In the midst of a 2-week flurry of bigoted remarks, Kanye West alluded to the idea that abortion is a form of Black genocide; Ye is just the most recent in a long line of conservatives drawing false parallels between reproductive freedoms and eugenics. Join along as the duo explore the history of the eugenics movement, the complex reality of Margaret Sanger's legacy, and the disproportionate harm Black people capable of giving birth face as a result of abortion restrictions. It doesn't matter what genre of beats you make, the 808 is one of the most powerful instruments as a beatmaker. Now, the 808 sound is a VERY SPECIAL instrument because it's like a hybrid between an kick drum and a bassline. To become a GOOD producer, you NEED to learn how to use an 808, and a bit of its history. Each genre uses the 808 a bit different, but it's a key element for fullness in your beats. (The 808 kick drum originally comes from a Roland-TR 808 Drum Machine. There's also many other common sounds we hear in popular songs all the time from this drum machine, but the 808 is known for its initial hit [similar to a short-tailed drum], then it's long tail which rattles the subwoofer [like a bassline]). =========================== GET THIS EPISODE'S RESOURCES: https://itsGratuiTous.com/podcast/s2e22-the-secrets-of-808s-as-a-beatmaker/ ===========================
This week I'm back at a solo podcast. I talk about stuff I missed last week but kept it relevant. I give a WW3 warning and some updates on the war. The random food processing plant fires, Elon Musk buying Twitter, faucci being mad about courts removing mask mandates, the difference between mama and baba work, my brothers visit, then end with some of the Pfizer dump and why they leaked that Roe V Wade repeal. As always share this with people so we can wake more souls! See ya next week!

This week we are looking at Kanye West's 808s and Heartbreaks and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. 808s was a pivot for Kanye into rap balladry, where MBDTF was a belabored project of vulnerability and collaboration after a fraught period for Kanye. Both of these albums are important in their time and in the history of Kanye West and rap music.
