Born and raised on the west coast of Puerto Rico, Carlos Rivera grew up surrounded by music. He was captivated early on by the potent combination of strong bass lines and percussion, a fascination sparked by junglist Roni Size. This initial encounter led him to explore other elements of the electronic music world, where he discovered Ricardo Villalobos and Fumiya Tanaka. Deeply inspired by their style of mixing and production, Carlos has since established his own unique form of expression for his listeners, characterized by sweet sounds that range from vivid housey basslines to jazz melodies. Over the years, Carlos has performed alongside notable artists such as Arapu, ARNO, Janeret, Mihai Pol, Adam Shelton, DJ Tennis, Oshana, Shaun Reeves, and Sonja Moonear, among others. Amber Lavigne, a mom in Maine, was shocked to discover that her daughter's school hid critical information from her. When Amber's daughter sought mental health counseling at school, she was encouraged to change her gender identity and keep it secret from her family. After uncovering the dangerous secrets, Amber confronted school administrators, who refused to help her. Concerned for her daughter's health and safety and the other students in the school, Amber went public and sued.Amber and her attorney, Adam Shelton with the Goldwater Institute, join the Moms for America Podcast to discuss the case. Parents across the country are facing similar discoveries. We believe that our schools are partners in helping our children thrive. However, when radical activists take over classrooms and school administration, our children are at risk. Listen to Amber's story. Unfortunately, there are many more like it.
Today I have a brave mom joining us and I want you to give it a listen, it's jam packed with content to help you connect the dots. Amber Lavigne of little Damariscotta, ME, a quaint town on the coast that is grooming students behind the brick walls of the public K-12 school system. She's fighting back and we speak about her recent guest appearance on The Angle, with Laura Ingram this past Friday night. We are joined by her Goldwater Institute lawyer, Adam Shelton and for a lawyer, he seems like a very good guy and it's a pleasure to have him speak to the 14th amendment and parental rights. I'll provide you some insight to the American School Counselors Association and the National Association of School Social workers, also working to groom kids and you'll be able to connect the dots as to why this is happening in a school on the Maine coast, of 2,500 residents…we are also going to speak to a horrific and alleged rape of a 15 year old student by a substitute teacher in Standish, ME!@GoldwaterInst http://www.goldwaterinstitute.org/donate

Suing the United States government is really hard. So hard that someone's family might not get to even if the government is at fault for that person dying in a flood. Adam Shelton explains why that luckily might not be true in this case, but all too often is. Then Diana Simpson walks us through a procedural pretzel of property rights preventing people from putting up homes. She also discusses some old cases you might not know about, but really should. At the forefront of this scene is Yamen & EDA. Friends since childhood, the pair possess an almost telepathic understanding behind the decks and in the studio, a way of working that's brought them to the attention of some of contemporary house and techno's most renowned imprints and dancefloors. Having officially kicked off as a duo in 2011, Yamen & EDA's ascendency has been an impressive one. Theirs is a story however, that goes much further back. Raised on a solid musical diet of minimal house and techno, the pair's formative years were spent on the many dancefloors of the south of France, experiences that still inspire their music to this very day. Best friends and ardent musical lovers with a penchant for similar styles and techniques, it was only ever a matter of time before Yamen & EDA solidified their friendship through music. Quickly getting down to business in the studio, their inaugural releases hinted at great promise, eventually bringing them to the attention of One Records boss, Adam Shelton. Always keen to foster fledgling talent, Shelton has signed numerous Yamen & EDA releases to his imprint and even had the boys join him at One Records showcases in London at fabric, Sonar in Barcelona and at Below in Birmingham. The relationship is one that's since brought the pair to the attention of numerous other labels, with Earlydub and LAATE among those who've housed their talents. What's more, their music has been played along the way by some of the scene's foremost players, with Raresh, Petre Inspirescu and Apollonia all lending their support. 2018, however, is the year that Yamen & EDA are set to go it alone courtesy of their own Maison Mere label. A vinyl-only affair that kicked off recently courtesy of the auspicious ‘Retrospect' EP, the label promises to promote a wide range of contrasting electronic sounds. “A platform to collect and release music without any limits”, it's indicative of an altogether exciting new chapter in the already emphatic careers of Yamen & EDA. With further releases to come on John Dimas' always on-point Elephant Moon label as well as a return to One Records in the works, 2018 already looks set to be a defining year for one of France's most exciting duos. It's taken five years, but the clients of IJ senior attorney Paul Avelar can now finally get their day in court thanks to a ruling in the Ninth Circuit. Paul joins us to explain why it takes so long to just try and vindicate your rights, and how Arizona's (thankfully former) civil forfeiture system allowed prosecutors to keep people's property over and over again, including, at first, his client's car. Meanwhile things got SALT-y in the Second Circuit where whatever you think about the state-and-local-income-tax deduction the court says it's not constitutionally guaranteed. Former New Yorker and IJ attorney Will Aronin uses some family-friendly yet SALT-y language to describe the state's high taxes and it and a few other states' successful efforts to have standing, but unsuccessful attempts at anything else. Usually a “chill” on your freedom of speech is the easiest constitutional injury to prove. But in the Tenth Circuit it seems if you speak too much you're not “chilled,” and therefore not “injured,” even if you're breaking an unconstitutional law. Adam Shelton walks us through this chilling brain teaser. Meanwhile, when is competition “unfair”? Alexa Gervasi explains that in Massachusetts it was not unfair for Uber to compete against taxicabs when its own right to operate was, shall we say, a grey area. Plus, some nostalgia for the halcyon days of 2013 when getting in a ridesharing car was something you didn't tell your mother. Transcript forthcoming. Something that is not the bee's knees is when the county mosquito sprayers forget to tell you to cover up your bees so they don't get murdered. When the bee farmers sue, is that killing a taking under the Fifth Amendment? Jeff Redfern comes on to explain how the Fourth Circuit said no, but along the way made it easier for property owners to bring takings claims in other cases. What can a court say in 325 pages? So much that we don’t have much of a clue. Diana Simpson slices and dices the Fifth Circuit’s analysis of a challenge to the Indian Child Welfare Act as it gets set for a highly likely trip up to the Supreme Court. And did you know you can sue the Federal Election Commission if they don’t investigate someone you don’t like? Well, you could, until the D.C. Circuit found some magic words. New York police disciplinary records were a black box, until the state changed the law. Then the union sued to keep the lid on—but lost. We speak to Tiffany Wright of the Howard University Civil Rights Clinic, who argued the case at the Second Circuit on behalf of the reforms. Also, did you know the government can search your smartphone with absolutely no suspicion when you cross the border? That’s what the First Circuit says, at least. Adam Shelton breaks down this alarming ruling, which we’ll all want to keep in mind when leaving the country becomes a thing again. Transcript forthcoming Uniformed Fire Officers Association v. What brings all lawyers together? Hatred of PACER. Some nonprofits challenged the fees the federal courts charge for accessing court filings on the electronic records system. And they won. Kind of. But this doesn’t mean you get to stop paying to see legal documents. This week Diana Simpson explains the history of accessing court documents via modem, where those fees go, and how the Federal Circuit interpreted some obscure statutory language. Also, Congress has never defined the term, but for well over a century Congress has barred immigrants who are likely to become a "public charge." Can the Department of Homeland Security adopt a definition of the term that will render way more people inadmissible? The Fourth Circuit said yes, and went on to opine on the continuing controversy over “nationwide injunctions.” Adam Shelton discusses that case, as well as a couple other recent cases from the Second Circuit—on the exact same issue—and a different injunction case from Puerto Rico. iTunes: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/shor…uit/id309062019 Spotify: podcasters.spotify.com/podcast/1DFCq…Ehed/overview Stitcher: www.stitcher.com/podcast/institut…ce/short-circuit Google: play.google.com/music/listen?u=0#…odkfm5cpz7rlvf76a Newsletter: ij.org/about-us/shortcircuit/ Want to email us? shortcircuit@ij.org National Veterans Legal Services Program v. Operating in the North with a great big smile, Jayson Wynters is an MC turned disc jockey turned producer done good. We had the pleasure of watching him play records at Houghton last year and were humbled by his selective presentation of music. His far reaching tastes are best showcased across several hours as he dives and digs between moving parts featuring a stylish array of genres, tempos and blends. His own music has been released prominently on Semtek's record label Don't Be Afraid but he has also made appearances as a producer on the likes of Mr G's Phoenix G imprint and on Ornate Music. Based in Birmingham he also has a hand in the running of Cafe Artum, a record shop come cafe he has helped pioneer alongside Adam Shelton. This May he will feature on our stage as part of the infamous Virgo Festival, an annual outing which has become a staple feature of our summer calendar. One to watch.
On this Episode Jamie Woods... Curious sounds in a minimalistic form. A sound that has grown to eventually become what it has now; characterful and discerning. Sometimes restrained and sometimes uninhibited, with a desire to stir imagination as much as the dancefloor. A previous resident for For No Reason in the UK; an intimate gathering of like-minded people that held host to the likes of Move D, Makam, Subb-an, Adam Shelton and more, and becoming a resident for Departure while residing on the island of Ibiza for a number of years - a night that primarily found home at Sankeys Ibiza, as well as playing at venues such as Sirocco Beach and Savannah, and in 2017 on The Zoo Project Treehouse Stage. A move to Berlin not long after brought yet further inspiration and immersion, and the opportunity to broaden musical horizons while exploring sound. @jamiewoodssougazi
Adam Shelton..................To my good friend leroy hussey who has always been able to pull out the funk records from the day a great selector who's music over the years has always inspired me i have just never told him because he talks too much. thanks for the tracks and the vibe. x This is and end of the summer blend of some of my favourite oldies, i see most people thinking that the summer is a gonna so hopefully this will give you some sunshine vibes and put a smile on your face. :) x
Adam Shelton....................This mix is going out to everybody i have had the pleasure to meet over the last five years of doing parties,it's great to do a selection of music where you do not have to promote a mix for a party,or something to give out to promote yourself. i am having a change in my life in 2010 and just want to say a massive thankyou to all my friends for supporting what i have been doing so far and really hope that you carry on in to the future and do the same. It makes all the up and downs seem worth it when you have your friends there. A big thanks big dicky.c for asking me to do this.
Jonny Wren....................This is a selection of tunes I love at the moment, a summertime house mix that I hope your all into. I would like to dedicate this mix to Claire first and foremost but also my fantastic friends, Despo, Frenchy, Adam Shelton, Subb-An, Tom Craven, Pete Marcincowski, Emily Righton, Matt Timms, Nicolas Dixon, Arthur Fenn, Caroline Michael, I could go on forever with this but these are a small selection of the people I have spent the best year of my life with last year. Thank you for all your inspiration. You lot are ace! Hope you enjoy! Jonny x
Adam Jones....................A mix for the the 'Luciano of hartlepool', It was a party at the Arches in Glasgow where he saw Jeff Mills and Slam that sparked Adam's interest with music and in particular playing records.. Over the following years he was involved in a few parties in and around Birmingham hosting events at venues such as the custard factory, the boiler room and his last event being a warehouse party with Audiofly and Adam Shelton headlining. Adam has also been fortunate to have a residency down in London for Transient at the horse and groom as well as playing in Poland including Piekarnia, Cien Club, Lodz and Poznan. After putting on these parties Adam lost his passion in music and was unsure of what musical direction to take. This quickly changed when the Below parties launched in Birmingham. House music is now very much at the forefront of his passions, over the past six months he has been in the studio working constantly on productions. A few of his productions have started to get interest from the likes of Spencer Parker, Kevin Griffiths Burnski and Jamie Jones and hopes to have some very good news soon regarding releases! (: Enjoy x

Anyone who knows Anna Wall will know that this is one of the many characteristics that defines her, and now, after years of working her way up the underground ranks, it looks as if years of graft are starting to pay dividends. Since first getting to grip with decks at the age of 19, Anna has developed a reputation and keen following in her native London and university town of Newcastle. Playing classic and contemporary house and deep detroit techno with a strong affinity with the roots of both, Anna’s broad knowledge of the history of dance music sets her apart from the hundreds of unimaginative, chart-championing DJs that plague the scene. Anna’s international break came in 2011 when she was recruited as resident DJ for Croatia’s Yacht Week, spinning for an epic 7 days 7 nights. Since then, she has been booked alongside some of the world’s most respected DJ talents, with the last few years seeing Anna DJ in the impressive company of MK, Robert Owens, Norman Jay, Inland Knights, Soul Clap, Adam Shelton, Jordan Peak, Santé, Matthias Kaden, the list goes on... Anna played for one of Mixmag’s first ever DJ Lab's on location at their penthouse in Miami alongside techno pioneer Kevin Saunderson and Miami’s own Treasure Fingers; an incredible achievement in its own right and one about which she is extremely proud. Anna spent her season last summer in Ibiza, playing clubs such as the world famous Space Ibiza for Future Disco alongside Carl Cox's The Revolution Unites every Tuesday, plus trips back to her hometown to play Warehouse LDN, and Watergate in Berlin. This year, her first solo EP is finally complete and with a collaboration with #1 most charted artist of 2013 on Resident Advisor: Sidney Charles in the works for Santé's Avotre imprint, be sure to keep your eyes and ears on this lady...

So, it's been a little while, but here's the latest episode in our podcast series. Episode 6 comes courtesy of French duo and our guests at this months party; Yamen & Eda. These guys caught our attention with their take on the techno laden deep house sound which has become synonymous with BeatStreet parties. With releases on great underground labels such as Safari Numerique and Pins & Needles, these guys are attracting attention from the right places, for the right reasons. It's the strength of these releases that caught the ears of Adam Shelton and a previous guest of ours; Subb-an, owners of the mighty One Records. We're pretty sure this is an insight into what the guys have planned for us in just under two weeks at The Garage! https://www.facebook.com/events/557078987675193/?fref=ts

BTTF_POD004 James Winter Originally from arguably one of the best clubbing destinations in the UK - Leeds, James has made house music his life and pretty much everything he thinks about since he was in his early teens. He has played some of the biggest and best venues in England; Sankeys, The Lightbox in London, The Garage (Voted UK's best small club 2012), Mint Warehouse, The Warehouse, Stinkys (Backtobasics, the longest running weekly house night in the world), Wire and The Mint Club who has seen the likes of Sven Vath, Ricardo Villalobos, Ellen Allien, Shonky, Dyed Soundorom, the list goes on. James has achieved in five years, what some DJ's could hope only hope to accomplish in that small timeframe. He first discovered his love for the rave scene after attending "WaxOn" back in 2008 in Leeds, England, hearing Brodinski, who was the first dance music related DJ he started listening to. After this passion spawned for house music, James started discovering new DJ's, labels, meeting all the people that mattered in the house scene and eventually started playing gigs in and around Leeds in early 2010. In 2011, he entered UK's "Movida Corona" DJ competition which saw him get the the UK final at the Ministry Of Sound in London, playing to literally thousands of house music fans. It earned James a column in the Yorkshire evening post and a mention in UK's Mixmag. Co-running his own night IN:VISION in Leeds, which is now well established in the UK house scene, it saw him play with the likes of FRANCK ROGER, JORDAN PEAK, ADAM SHELTON and more, as well as building a plethora of contacts which were put to good use in the months to follow. Amidst all this progress, James was asked to be a new resident for APOGEE presents...in London. This helped to establish his name down south and to be able to play with the likes of HOT SINCE 82, WAIFS & STRAYS, AUDIOJACK and many others. James now has two releases through Luke Pompey's label Love Not Money Records and two other releases through both Dudley Strangeways label Back To The Future Records and Farfan Deep's label Underground Lovers Records which have received support from Grant Nelson, DJ Caspa, Hector Morales and Subb-an to name a few.
Unlike many weird and wonderful names in music, this one couldn’t be more descriptive if it led a revolution. Never one for conforming, following or holding back, Jonny ‘Rebel’ Lawrence's passion for music can be heard throughout his work as well as in his personality. Always open minded Jonny's influence are broad. Spanning across 80s pop culture and the 90s dance music scene, plus what close friends describe as ‘an unhealthy obsession with hero Sasha’ - you can see where Rebel pulls direction from. Hailing from the historically conservative Buckinghamshire, it’s not hard to see where the thirst to step away from the norm came from. After realising his passion for music and all things artistic at a young age, Jonny had found the ammunition he needed to flourish from a wayward boy to a rebellious leader. In 2004 he moved to Leicester and began his musical journey quickly becoming a regular at the cities infamous Sonido parties before launching his own venture in the form of Save The Pony. 2013 sees the launch of "Tough Luck Records", Jonny's own imprint (Alongside friends Chris Cue and Twon) with a clearly defined ethos, tough, raw Techno and house. It's first release, REbEL's "History" EP was immediately picked up by the likes of Loco Dice, Stacey Pullen, wAFF, Adam Shelton, Bloody Mary, Jozif and more. It also received Mixmag's "Techno tune of the month" for August 2013, scoring 9/10, surely a sign of things to come from TLR. With a vast array of unreleased material lying dormant in his hard drive and a continuous drive to make music, promote parties and push his label, Jonny will surely continue to work hard and succeed in an ever evolving scene.
I'd like to dedicate this mix to anyone and everyone who has supported me on this journey so far, anyone who has danced to or played any of my records. Without you I wouldn't have got this far today. It also includes my latest release 'Frigid' on Moan and a new track Im currently working on called 'All For The Music' as well as some fresh music from some good friends of mine and some of my main inspirations and who i would like to give a big mention: Burnski, DJ W!ld, John Dimas, Javier Carbalo, Adam Shelton, J.Cub, Andrade. Hope you all enjoy the mix. Peace and Love James.

JMX is a name that seems to be cropping up all over the place at the minute, his tracks appearing in charts and mixes from the likes Ralph Lawson, Adam Shelton, Jordan Peak and Huxley. He has definitely got everyone talking and rightly so with his first ep dropping on 2020 Vision in April followed by a release on One Records plus tracks coming on a new label from Huxley and Nic Fanciulli's soon to be relaunched Deleted Records, 2012 is looking like a year JMX's name is going to ring out
