Ben Sherwood's "The Survivors Club: The Secrets and Science that Could Save Your Life" was so fascinating to Michael that he had him back on for this interview, 11 years after the book was written. Each second of the day, someone in America faces a crisis, whether it's a car accident, violent crime, serious illness, or financial trouble. Given the inevitability of adversity, we all wonder: Who beats the odds and who surrenders? Why do some people bound back and others give up? How can I become the kind of person who survives and thrives? The fascinating, hopeful answers to these questions are found in THE SURVIVORS CLUB. Mr. Sherwood is the former President of Disney-ABC Television Group and ABC News. Original air date 26 May 2020. The book was published on 26 January 2009.

Ben Sherwood, founder and CEO of MOJO, and has coached his sons for the last 12 years in four sports. During that time, he also served as president of the Disney ABC Television Group and president of ABC News. Like many recreational coaches, he noticed that there were few if any resources to help the busy parent coach as he or she travelled from work to the practice field. So, he founded MOJO (@yougotmojo). Today we speak about the founding of the company, the need to help our recreational coaches more so than our top level coaches, and how we can make sports for children age 4-14 better.  MOJO is on a mission to make youth sports more fun and magical for everyone – one kid, one coach, one family at a time. Launched in February 2021, MOJO is a robust digital platform that empowers parents who coach youth sports to bring world-class training to the largest pool of players in the world – kids aged 13 and under. Winner of the Webby Award for Best Sports App of 2021, MOJO believes that youth sports has the power to transform lives, not just for the kids on the field but the coaches and parents on the sidelines. MOJO is committed to equity, inclusion and helping to level the playing field for kids everywhere. What do Russell Wilson, Julie Foudy, Brandi Chastain, & Ben Sherwood, the former co-chairman of Disney/ABC, have in common? They are all parents of athletes who dream of making youth sports fun again. One athlete, one family, one team at a time. A fairly sizeable goal, but these prominent athletes, along with CEO Sherwood and CPO Reed Shaffner, have a pretty good idea of where to start, leveling the playing field with just a few simple swipes. Their new App, MOJO, launched this week. The best way to describe it, a coach-in-a-box.  MOJO targets volunteer coaches who are instructing kids between the ages of 4 and 13, a sweet spot in life when moms and dads are primarily the coaches and before the age when 70% of kids drop out. It's not necessarily for the seasoned vets, but for the thousands of us who check that "COACH" box on our kids' forms only to feel completely overwhelmed from that moment forward. It's designed for two types of parents: those who might be intimidated by the prospect of getting involved and those who have jumped in and now want to improve. I gave it a quick test drive, and I have to say, it's a game-changer. It's easy to sign up, simple to navigate, and has truly helpful information. It plans your practice from top to bottom.  You input the age group your coaching, their skill level, and how long your practice runs.  The best part, the videos show you exactly how to do the drills. It even has a chart listing what's needed for each practice, for example, ten cones and 6 pennies, and you can add your own notes as you go. As someone who would spend WAY too long on practice plans, this is a dream come true. MOJO has the potential to be especially valuable for female coaches who are greatly underrepresented in youth sports. There is also great content to accompany the App, just about every topic a coach needs for a successful season, including an article I wrote about why I started Ilovetowatchyouplay.com.  We spoke to founders Sherwood and Shaffner about their own youth sports experiences that led them to create MOJO, why big-name athletes want to be involved, and what they would change about youth sports if they had a magic wand.

Dungey, during her portion of the presentation, bragged that “The premiere ratings even took us by surprise,” claiming that one in 10 Americans has seen the “Roseanne” revival premiere. The statement by Barr would have demanded a strong response from any network. In the case of ABC, Dungey’s promotion in 2016 made her the first African-American woman to serve as entertainment president at a Big Four network.

Ever watch a movie that should, by all accounts, be really bad? Or maybe you've seen a film that just needs a few changes, and it could be a real winner. Charlie St. Cloud (2010) falls somewhere between those lines.  Starring Zac Efron, Amanda Crew, Donal Logue, Kim Basinger, and Ray Liotta, this film is not short on talent, that's for sure.  With an interesting enough premise based off of The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood, this film had every right to be good.  So where does this film err? As a complete piece, the film lacks subtlety. It spares no punches, and spends plenty of moments dropping thesis statements. Sure, once or twice could work, but it becomes very routine. However, we found ourselves enjoying this cheesy film — which is always refreshing.

The first part was recorded on location at the 9th Annual Agile Open Northwest (Portland, OR) with Ben Sherwood, Michael Wolf, Alicia Lanier and Ian Savage.  For the second part, I returned to the home studio and was joined by Dale Ellis, Jon Jorgensen, Brett Palmer and Larry Lawhead. Between the two sessions, we dove deep into the following topics: Facilitation Tools - Groupwork cards Adaptive Action and Agile - aka What? So what? Now what? One more huge shout of gratitude to Ian, Alicia, Michael and Ben, to Diana, Tündér, Ainsley and all participants and volunteers at #AONW.
