Bryan Kohberger was arraigned for stabbing four college kids. Every one wants to know why he did it. But at his arraignment, he just stood silent and wouldn't even plead. Kind of like my dog when I ask her if she chewed up my socks. Sometimes silence is not your golden ticket. Lori Vallow Daybell was found guilty is near record time after her lawyers put forth no defense. I guess when you are on the record for saying your children are zombies and zombies should all die, then yea, maybe silence is your best play. Taylor Phillips is one funny person! And that is not just my opinion. She won an Emmy for her comedy writing for the John Oliver show. Her new book "A Guide to Midwestern Conversations" is a must read. You can purchase your copy here: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/708749/a-guide-to-midwestern-conversation-by-taylor-kay-phillips/ And finally, in an epic marketing masterpiece, LeBron James said he is thinking about retirement after he laid an egg in the NBA playoffs. Now NO ONE is talking about the fact his team was swept from the playoffs. Genius. Pure genius.

What do you do when you've heard something from God, and you know it was God because your spirit lept within you - but it hasn't rained...yet? Noah was told to build an Ark and was 600 years old before he entered it and the rains came. But here's the kicker..he was somewhere between 500 and 600 when he was told to build the ark. Some scholars say that it took anywhere from 50-70 years for it to be completed. So what do you do when you're faced with a task that seems daunting, that takes years to be completed and is hasn't rained yet? How do you deal with the onslaught of lies from the enemy? In today's episode, host Taylor Phillips shares encouragement from her situations of building when there's not rain on the horizon, as well as encourages you with a word from the Lord. Before marriage, our lives are all about independence and survival. When we get married, there's a sudden shift we have to make: from "me" to "we." There's a power-struggle of two "me's" trying to become "we." As a culture, we've bought into this lie that marriage is for "me," and when it doesn't work, we bail. In reality, marriage is for God's glory, and it's a picture of two people mirroring the way Christ loves the church. Not only that, but through having children, it's an opportunity to raise up the next generation to be leaders - in marriage, in parenting, in loving God. In today's episode, host Taylor Phillips is joined by Author and Worship Leader Kaley Thompson to talk about her new book "Matrimony, Motherhood & Me" and how we can thrive in all areas. A fistful of years ago, Julie Szewc (pronounced “Chefs”) and Dave Huebner met in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming with one central thing in common; a love of all kinds of music and a thirst for making it. Along with Fernando Serna (drums/percussion) and Taylor Phillips (bass), they have all knit their passions into the musical family that is The Two Tracks. From their home in the postcard town of Sheridan, the band stirs western roots and wilderness philosophy into a stew of nourishing connection. Cutting undeniable grooves in the road of Americana music with their new release Cheers to Solitude, Sheridan WY quartet The Two Tracks bend genres into a sound laced with a hint of that “high lonesome” tradition. Their newest release Cheers to Solitude, is produced by Will Kimbrough who has also worked the studio with the likes of Rodney Crowell, Josh Rouse, and Todd Snider. Cheers to Solitude garnered rave reviews from No Depression, Glide and Relix magazines. The Two Tracks self-titled 2016 debut was voted “Wyoming's Best Album” by Wyoming Public Radio. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Who is the Holy Spirit? Jesus had one very clear purpose and that was to redeem us from our sins, and to pay the debt our sins caused. It's easy to get behind that. But because we can't fit Holy Spirit into a box, the church doesn't know how to interact with Him or what His purpose is. God isn't haphazard - He didn't just drop the Holy Spirit onto our planners. We've been conditioned to put trials and suffering on levels. Culture says that, unless we've suffered a certain amount, we need to get over what we're going through. Church culture sometimes ignores what people are going through and blanket scripture over the top, almost dismissing the real thing someone is enduring. We can all agree that 2020 was a year of trials for everyone. Some dealt with more than others, but we suffered just the same. In today's podcast, your host Taylor Phillips interviews Keagan Hayden about trials, truth, and triumph: how we walk through trials, how we can move toward truth and walking through them in God's word, and how we can walk through trials with others. If you or anyone you know is going through a rough spot, take a listen and then share it. Keagan is a Christian communicator and author. It doesn't matter the season you're in. Community is vital. If 2020 has taught us anything, it's the importance of connection. We've had to get creative over the last year to find the fun in Zoom meetings, google classrooms, and more. Community gives us the opportunity to bounce ideas off of another, connect with like-minded people outside of our co-workers, and honestly, just be the body of Christ. But how do we build community in an ever increasing virtual world? How do we create those meaningful connections through screens? How do we find what our lives so desperately need? This conversation with Madison Anaya, CEO and founder of The Fearless Chase Community is more than a conversation about community. It's about leadership. Whether you're a business owner, entrepreneur, stay at home mom, worker of a 9-5, whatever...this conversation will be so beneficial to you. Today's episode has two very special guest stars: Taylor Phillips and Jeff O'Donnell, who you may know and love from their incredible social media presence. They're a great couple on quite the journey together. And while everyone's Pandemic stories have been different, there's some comfort in sitting down to speak with other couples and seeing that many of the decisions, trials, tribulations, and little joys are universal. Taylor and Jeff moved out of New York during the Pandemic, and have invested a lot of time and creative energy into buying and fixing up a house. They love walks with their dog, the sound of birds chirping in the morning, the size of shopping carts in suburbia… New York City might be one of the greatest places on earth, but when you live anywhere else, your eyes are opened to hundreds of conveniences you never knew you wanted. And they're so lucky to be exploring them together during this “extended summer vacation” that is the Pandemic. They're learning to communicate and give their relationship the quality time it needs and deserves … all while while balancing schedules, maintaining their social media presence, and planning a wedding! These two are more than just content creators. They are community creators. And it was so inspiring to hear their stories of what visibility means in the gay community. Taylor lives his life by the quote “Live the life of the person you needed when you were younger.” And when we were all younger, we did not see same-sex couples paving the way and telling us your feelings are valid, love is out there, and ask questions if you have them. So these two are paving the way in that regard. We love their content, and they are constantly surprised by the way it impacts the community they both work hard to create. This week's Spotlight on Love comes to us from an anonymous listener: I recently survived a divorce and started dating. I want to be cautious and selective when using dates apps. I recently went on a date with a gorgeous man who is- I don't know how to say it… not smart. I'm definitely intellectual and this guy is so sweet, but I'm not sure if I can date someone who isn't very intelligent. Is that shallow of me? I'm not sure if I should still consider going out with him. Taylor and Jeff have different opinions on how much information they should share online. So communication is key before sharing. How do you feel about sharing your personal life on Instagram? Do you think twice before pressing the “share” button? Have you ever regretted a post- or been surprised by the way that you story impacted a complete stranger? We'd love to hear your stories! On today's episode of "Triple Threat Training," Shanda Fulbright of Her Faith Inspires joins host, Taylor Phillips to talk about the importance of rightly handling scripture. We've found ourselves amid cultural issues more than we have in the past. We're hearing good sounding phrases that are partly true, but they're not truth. Christians find themselves wondering how to defend what they believe when phrases like "don't judge, just love" come up. So how do we defend what we believe? It starts with rightly dividing God's Word. 2 Timothy 2:15 tells us to study to show ourselves approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. It's important that we study scripture, what it means, background, who it's intended for, and more. Join Taylor and Shanda for a conversation about why it's important that we accurately handle truth and how you can start implementing this strategy now. Shanda helps women learn biblical truths and apply them to modern day struggles. You can read more about Shanda here. This week, your hosts Steve Lowry and Yvonne Godfrey interview Kenneth Suggs of Janet, Janet & Suggs, LLC (https://www.jjsjustice.com/) Remember to rate and review GTP in iTunes: Click Here To Rate and Review Episode Details: Award-winning trial lawyer Kenneth Suggs of Janet, Janet & Suggs, LLC explains how he successfully represented Taylor Phillips, a young girl whose spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy was caused by her mother's mismanaged labor and delivery at a hospital in Washington, Iowa. Lisa Phillips entered the hospital for the induced labor of her second child by Dr. Lynette Iles, a family physician who physically checked on Lisa only a few times throughout the day and relied mostly on continuous external fetal monitoring to inform her about the baby's health. As the delivery drew closer, Dr. Iles chose to move to intermittent external fetal monitoring, despite the lack of consistent heartbeat readings and missed key indications that the baby was struggling. Taylor was delivered through cesarean section by a different doctor and airlifted to a neonatal intensive care unit for the brain damage she sustained during the period of intermittent fetal monitoring. Due to her traumatic birth, Taylor is a locked-in quadriplegic who cannot speak and who cannot live independently. A Washington County, Iowa jury returned a landmark verdict of $18,126,000 against Dr. Iles and her medical practice for violating the standard of care. Ep.3 - Inside The Noize - In Case You Missed It (Taylor Phillips) by Artistnoize
Let's talk about Deadpool. A smash hit, this movie was only a pipe dream for a while. But once it came out, it smashed expectations. Why is that? What gives it the so-called magic that it has? We're joined by Taylor (of Charlie St. Cloud and Dune fame), our resident X-men X-pert to talk through this one.

This week, we're joined by Taylor Phillips to discuss Dune (1984) Written and directed by David Lynch, Dune stars Francesca Annis, Brad Dourif, Kyle MacLachlan, Virginia Madsen, Patrick Stewart, Sting, Dean Stockwell, Max von Sydow, Alicia Roanne Witt, and Sean Young — as well as about a hundred other people. What are your thoughts on David Lynch's Dune? Let us know at TheCriticalBreakdownPodcast@gmail.com.
Ever watch a movie that should, by all accounts, be really bad? Or maybe you've seen a film that just needs a few changes, and it could be a real winner. Charlie St. Cloud (2010) falls somewhere between those lines. Starring Zac Efron, Amanda Crew, Donal Logue, Kim Basinger, and Ray Liotta, this film is not short on talent, that's for sure. With an interesting enough premise based off of The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood, this film had every right to be good. So where does this film err? As a complete piece, the film lacks subtlety. It spares no punches, and spends plenty of moments dropping thesis statements. Sure, once or twice could work, but it becomes very routine. However, we found ourselves enjoying this cheesy film — which is always refreshing.
Mutation: it is the key to our evolution. It's also the key to this episode, because we're discussing the X-Men film franchise this week! That's right, we'll be covering X-Men, X2, X-Men 3, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, X-Men: First Class, The Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Deadpool, and X-Men Apocalypse. We are joined by a special guest: Taylor Phillips. Taylor is one of those guys who has read almost every X book out there, and if he hasn't, probably knows about it anyway. We also cover the future of the X-Men film franchise, including New Mutants, Wolverine 3 (Old Man Logan?), and Deadpool 2. We round out the episode by discussing what we'd like to see from the franchise, if the films could mesh with the MCU, and the cartoon legacy of mutants, as well.
