Ben Sherwood's "The Survivors Club: The Secrets and Science that Could Save Your Life" was so fascinating to Michael that he had him back on for this interview, 11 years after the book was written. Each second of the day, someone in America faces a crisis, whether it's a car accident, violent crime, serious illness, or financial trouble. Given the inevitability of adversity, we all wonder: Who beats the odds and who surrenders? Why do some people bound back and others give up? How can I become the kind of person who survives and thrives? The fascinating, hopeful answers to these questions are found in THE SURVIVORS CLUB. Mr. Sherwood is the former President of Disney-ABC Television Group and ABC News. Original air date 26 May 2020. The book was published on 26 January 2009.

DISAPPEARED AND FOUND by Kerry Reis Was She Adopted or Kidnapped? A young woman's search for her biological family opens up a mystifying twenty-year old cold case of a mother and her baby daughter disappearing while on a walk, a development that arouses interest and surprise from a couple of television programs, local and federal law enforcement, and a splintered family. Dorothy had always felt the love of being raised by coddling well-off parents, and was encouraged by the death of her mother to cancer to take college classes towards a medical career. However, after a class lab experiment leads to her overhearing her father revealing that she was actually adopted, Dorothy decides to research the truth of her biological family by reaching out to a television docuseries focused on reconnecting families. A DNA test seems to lead to a close sibling match, but when Rory, the host of the docuseries, reaches out to the match, the young man, Scott, responds by telling him that his sister was not put up for adoption, but had disappeared with his mother when they went for a walk twenty years ago, a case that is now the attention of an episode being produced by another television docuseries. The reappearance of a woman who disappeared as a baby brings both television productions together into a collaboration, as the FBI joins the local police into the reopened case, but Dorothy wonders about the wounds of disconnecting with the father who raised her, reconnecting with a family who had lost her, as well as the mystery of what happened to her real mother. About the Author Born in Oregon and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Kerry Reis attended the University of California at Los Angeles, graduating with a bachelor's in motion picture and television arts. Tiesha Brunson was born on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and grew up in North Jersey. She attended a Catholic elementary school, an all-girls Catholic high school, and a Catholic college—but grew up Baptist. She spent some time in Madrid, Spain; then, over the summer, she interned for Cinemax between her junior and senior year and secured a position as a production assistant at HBO in New York City following graduation. She graduated cum laude from King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania with a double major in communications and Spanish. After three years at HBO, she accepted a position as a writer/producer at BET Networks in Washington, D.C. Two years later, she moved to Los Angeles, California and became an employee of “The Mouse,” the Disney/ABC Television Group. She, first, worked for the cable network, SOAPnet, as a writer/producer. A couple of years later, she moved over to the network side and got her dream position at ABC working as a writer/producer on her favorite soap, “All My Children.” Within one year, Tiesha was promoted to director of on-air promotions where she managed two award-winning creative teams on both coasts. During her 10-plus years at ABC, she oversaw the writing, producing, and marketing of promos for “The View,” “All My Children,” “One Life to Live,” and “General Hospital.” The network won multiple sweeps periods, year after year. Amidst all of this, she got married and had four kids, all girls, back to back. After child number four, she started her own production company, Queens Consulting LLC. Tiesha worked on various primetime promos and proofread best-selling novels, and had another baby girl. This happened all while shuttling her girls around to auditions, gymnastics, karate, and Zumba classes, from Burbank to Santa Monica. In 2016, she and her family decided to relocate back to the East Coast to help out other family members. Since then, Tiesha decided to take her marketing skills into the higher education sector. She was hired as the Director of Admissions Communications & Marketing at Georgian Court University in central New Jersey. Her Catholic-educated upbringing was put to good use. In one year, she helped raise enrollment for first-year and transfer students through promotional videos and printed materials. She had her last baby, another girl, in the midst of writing her own romance novel, and started blogging about her life as a mother of six girls at allmommyissues.com. And she's not done yet. E.G talks again about Facebook and Roseanne. Two weeks ago at ABC’s upfront presentation, Barr introduced Disney-ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood, joking that he was “the guy responsible for most of my tweets.” Sherwood and Barr hugged onstage, and the the exec noted that ABC had not had television’s No. 1 show in 24 years. Dungey, during her portion of the presentation, bragged that “The premiere ratings even took us by surprise,” claiming that one in 10 Americans has seen the “Roseanne” revival premiere. The statement by Barr would have demanded a strong response from any network. In the case of ABC, Dungey’s promotion in 2016 made her the first African-American woman to serve as entertainment president at a Big Four network.

This week Channing and I helped kick off Disney’s Magic of Storytelling campaign, an ongoing initiative aimed at inspiring imagination and a lifelong love of reading. We went to a special event at our local Disney store to join Elena of Avalor in reading our favorite books! While we were there I got to interview a member of the Royal Guard. Jorge Diaz voices the character of "Gabe" on Elena of Avalor and shared with me what it's like to be a part of such a ground breaking animated series. He also talked about how his own life was inspired by books his mother read to him as a child. Books are so important to fostering the imagination and learning about new ideas and cultures. I can't wait until Chan starts reading on her own. I think she's going to be reading EVERYTHING. Do you have a kid who's really into books? I think I have one, she just doesn't know it yet. “We are so proud to have donated more than 57 million books through our long-standing collaboration with Disney,” said Kyle Zimmer, president and CEO of First Book. “Each year, the excitement around the Magic of Storytelling campaign grows, inspiring millions of individuals to help us bring much-needed new books to children in need.” Here's how you can participate in Disney's Magic of Storytelling campaign: One for One Book Donation: Disney will donate one book to First Book for every eligible Disney book purchased at a Disney Store or participating retailer during that store’s participation window. (A list of eligible Disney books and participating retailers are available at magicofstorytelling.com.) Share a Shelfie: Disney will also give one book for every “shelfie” — a selfie photo with a favorite book or in front of a bookshelf — shared on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #MagicOfStorytelling. Disney Story Central: Users of Disney’s digital reading platform can download digital books designed for parents and children to read together. Disney will donate one book to First Book for every book read in the app. Magic of Storytelling Sweepstakes: Consumers can enter to win a library of 400 Disney books for their school and a personal library for their home in the Magic of Storytelling Sweepstakes. For every sweepstakes entry, Disney will donate one book to First Book. To enter the sweepstakes and for more rules and information, visit magicofstorytelling.com. In-Store Events: Celebrate Disney Reads Day on February 4 at Disney Store, Barnes & Noble, and participating retailer locations nationwide.
