In this episode Nathan brings on his good friend and local Tampa comedian Bob Holden. They discuss how they've been consistently working on their stand up acts, and reflect on the last few months since they last recorded a podcast (Ep 46). Bob contrasts doing stand up in Tampa Vs. doing it in Maryland and DC. They also go to discuss how they focus on getting off of social media so they can relocate that time into something that is more useful towards self-improvement, and how some people are living in fear and letting that keep them from pursuing what they truly want in life. Lastly, they discuss comics they have seen live and who they still want to see in the future. Please consider supporting the show on Patreon! Will Hagan has been broadcasting on motoring and motor racing for more than half a century. When I was arranging to talk to International race and rally champion Rauno Aaltonen Will was the ideal person to get some back ground information. Will is, of course more than happy to talk on a range of subjects and in this short interview that goes for over an hour he covered many subjects in his exuberant style. Subjects covered include: • The beginning of his broadcasting career (0:42) • His step father sold Minis (3:32) • Early history of minis racing in Australia (3:53) • Isigonis and the design of the early Minis (9:43) • In the 1960s Japanese car makers began competing in the Bathurst race to show their reliability (15:44) • Meeting Rauno Aaltonen and doing his anti-terrorist driving course (25:06) • Porsche's in Australia – the Germans were used to being allowed to use public road for taking race cars to meetings. As did Jack Brabham (27:15) • Rauno and Bob Holden's efforts at winning Bathurst (33:55)
Rauno Aaltonen: Learning a circuit and rally versus race driving This is an extract of an interview with Race and rally legend Rauno Aaltonen. Finland's celebrated motor sport driver, Rauno Aaltonen, won many events and along with local Australia hero Bob Holden, in 1966 finished first in our famous touring car race at Bathurst's Mt Panorama, in a tiny Mini Cooper S. Rauno is now 83 years old, still has an international racing licence and remains thoughtful and crystal clear about the right approach to racing and to life. I recorded a chat with him for the Overdrive – cars, transport and culture radio and podcast program. The full interview and selected segments can be found on the web site drivenmedia.com.au.
Bob Holden had secretly worked on their car: nothing illegal just blue printing to the precise specifications. The top nine places in the race were Mini cooper Ss but the Aaltonen/Holden vehicle won by over a lap. Rauno explains why, even with harder tyres, they were just as fast and didn't have to change wheels as much.
Rauno Aaltonen: He invented left foot braking – he tells the benefits and changing style on the track. This is an extract of an interview with Race and rally legend Rauno Aaltonen. He hadn't race against him much but he did reminisce on an incredibly varied career as an Aussie Battler who over came great adversity. He raced against Bruce McLaren who took an interest in Bob's performance. I have spoken about his win in the Bathurst 500 in a MIni at length on another occasion and mention it briefly here. Bob is 85 years old and still racing.
