Transport Risk and Accident Specialist Stan Bezuidenhout discusses with Lester Kiewit whether there’s a legal maximum age for driving in South Africa. While there’s no set age limit, Bezuidenhout argues that the real issue isn’t age but ability. He shares his concerns about the current license renewal process, calling it little more than an expensive card print, and explains that drivers should consider stopping when they no longer feel safe or confident - whether that’s due to struggling with speed limits, heavy traffic, or lane changes.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Episode #074:In this episode our duo gets down to business right off the bat! What is happening to our jokesters? They have once again shown that in addition to handing out laughter and information they can really do a great interview. They are talking with Steve Strong, the V.P. of Admissions at the Southwest Truck Driver Training School. Of course, they did begin with a bit of laughter, we have come to expect that of them. Steve hits right back with the puns in his answers and it is such an easy interview that you will be drawn right in!Our hosts came prepared for the interview with questions that will help those that may be interested in becoming a truck driver. The conversation goes from challenges in career schools and how twenty or so years ago this type of school was getting a bad reputation. This was despite how two- and four-year colleges did not teach things like truck driving, electrical, heating and air conditioning, and such. Steve goes on to explain how these schools have changed over the years and have a much-needed place in our world. These types of schools fill a gap in training for those that do not want a career that was being offered in a two- or four-year college. And a career that can be taught quickly has advantages when the economy goes up and down. From there they go on to discuss the distinct types of trucking schools. Yes, there are several types, some are company owned, hiring for their company. Others are independent like Southwest; they train independently of any trucking company. So, drivers can choose the company they want to apply with. They go on to discuss what S.W.T.D.T. has to offer. The types of packages, the costs, hours, their incredible staff, and programs too. So, the bottom line is, this is such an informative, yet lively conversation. Everyone, whether you are looking to go to school to be a driver or not, will find it fun and informative. Because it will help guide you no matter what type of future you are looking for, Steve gives you general guidance to look for in your future. A good, friendly, honest company.Oh, and if you have the chance, you should see that lobby in the Phoenix campus along with the friendly atmosphere. It has been said that “In school, you're taught a lesson, and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches the lesson.” Our guest today has faced his share of tests and has masters-level lessons to share. There were numerous sleepless nights when as a business owner in this industry, he had over a million dollars worth of debt on trucks he couldn't move. Then there were sleepless nights of a different kind when battling an aggressive form of cancer. These are the kind of tests that can either make or break you. They made Mike Kolody, and we're thrilled to have him on the show today. Mike is an expert driver and trainer who's seen it all on the open road. He's learned what makes the business go, to the tune of six figures. But, he's also learned how to make those figures work for him, to the tune of ten toes in the sand. He's a top-shelf businessman who's also been accused of being a beach bum - an accusation he and his family don't dispute. On today's episode of the Six-Figure Trucker, you'll hear Mike's story and walk away with a truckload of help and inspiration for the road ahead.Show NotesBeach Bummin'!
