One of the most common excuses I hear from folks who aren't completely vegan yet is, “It's way too difficult to travel as a vegan!” Well, here's the only B.S.-busting, info-packed episode you need if you're a vegan interested in travelling the world. Brighde Reed is one of the founders of World Vegan Travel, a company dedicated to creating luxurious, immersive group travel experiences for vegans and the vegan-curious. Based in Squamish, BC, Brighde lives with Seb, the co-owner of World Vegan Travel. Before embarking on her journey in the travel industry, Brighde was a dedicated teacher. Her love for exploration has taken her across the globe, having lived in Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and now Canada. Brighde and Seb started World Vegan Travel in 2017. World Vegan Travel offers enriching travel experiences to a variety of destinations, including Thailand, Italy, Rwanda, Vietnam, and Japan. Each trip combines cultural immersion and exceptional plant-based cuisine. When she's not planning trips, Brighde enjoys hiking and immersing herself in nature.

Hello, everyone! This is Brighde, your host from The World Vegan Travel Podcast, and I've got some news to share.Over the last 18 months, I've been bringing you weekly episodes, exploring the world of vegan travel together. In my recent episodes, I shared the amazing experiences from our group tour to Thailand and you will have noticed that they were not interview podcasts. That's because I've encountered a challenge. Upon returning home, I found myself surrounded by the not-so-soothing sounds of construction near my house—a bridge being built, complete with noisy piling work. Unfortunately, this isn't an ideal environment for recording our usual interview-style podcasts.I reached out to the construction company, and they informed me that this symphony of construction sounds will continue until the end of January 24. Despite having several interviews lined up before our Alsace trip in the first week of December, I've had to reschedule them until after the construction concludes. Additionally, Seb and I are gearing up for travel from February to April, heading to Australia to see family and Japan running our trip. Typically, I'd have a bank of podcasts ready for you during my absence, but this time, due to the construction noise as soon as I got back, I have none.Balancing interviews across different time zones is challenging and I usually keep all day Friday open for podcast recording so as to accommodate those different time zones, and I've spent the last two weeks since returning from Thailand trying to figure out a cost-effective solution. I researched a coworking space but I would need my own office which was not cost effective at all and it's hard with equipment lugging that there, booking spots and then having to reschedule or cancel last minute should my guest not be able to attend for some reason. Seb and I brainstormed ideas like creating compilation episodes or rebroadcasting some classics. While these could work for a couple of weeks, these ideas are not sustainable for several months. So, unfortunately, I haven't found a way to continue with weekly podcasts for now.I'm genuinely disappointed because I know consistency is key in podcasting, and I've enjoyed the momentum we've built together. So, what am I going to do?I plan to relaunch the podcast for weekly episodes around April or May 2024, once the construction chaos has settled, and I've accumulated a stash of interviews ready to go. In the meantime, I might drop a few one-off episodes sharing some exciting travel experiences Seb and I have either personal travel, or with our groups or research for our tours—think Prague, Alsace in December, Japan, and Queensland, Australia.Remember to set a reminder to check for new weekly episodes in May, make sure you're notified when a new episode is launched on your podcast catcher and make sure you're on our mailing list for updates on the podcast's return. Your support means the world to me, and I can't wait to be back in your earbuds, sharing more vegan travel goodness sometime in the second quarter of 2024.Until then, safe and happy travels, my wonderful listeners! Thanks for understanding, and I'll catch you on the flip side.Check out our website | Check out all the podcast show notes | Follow us on Instagram

Who better, than the person behind organizing what are, at least to my knowledge, the most high end, spectacularly planned, luxury vegan travel tours and experiences out there, including exploring the beauty of Tuscany, Christmas markets in France, seeing mountain gorillas in Rwanda, going on safari in Botswana and more. She also talks about: Finding vegan friendly hotels, resorts and accommodations. How to talk about your vegan diet when ordering at restaurants and when booking hotels. How to find delicious vegan food while travelling and nearby vegan restaurants. How to use social media to find vegan food near you. Why travel guides aren't always the most up to date with vegan recommendations while travelling, and where to find these. How to get over the fear of advocating for yourself and asking for a vegan dish or vegan substitutions at restaurants and hotels. How you don't have to plan your trips alone and the options available to you so all you have to do is pack your bags. How to find vegan food city tours. Much more. So this season Sam and I are going to be featuring more real-life birth stories on the podcast and this is the first: it's Brighde's story of her birth experience of her daughter, Rebel, when a planned home birth turned into an empowering hospital birth! Brighde is mum to two beautiful children, Niko and Rebel and step-mum to Emmie and Teddy. She lives in Doncaster with her best friend and soul-mate, Matt. When Brighde isn't being a 'full time badass bitch' (her words, not mine!) she is an Activities Coordinator working with adults with learning difficulties. Brighde found a lot of information and support from Sam's group really made a difference to her birth experience. You can join them too, here: Home Birth Support Group UK - A group for anyone curious about or planning a home birth The Village - A gentle parenting group for support from baby to toddler to teen Freebirth And Emergency Childbirth Support Group UK - A course in a group for anyone looking for information and support to prepare for birthing without a midwife. With restrictions lifted, many people are once again planning their dream trip. Yet, for many vegans, they run into the challenge of finding vegan friendly environments including healthy food choices and likeminded travelers.   Enter, Brighde Reed, cofounder of the high-end vegan tour company, World Vegan Travel.   World Vegan Travel is fast becoming a favorite for vegan travelers ready to have an exclusive experience in exotic lands around the globe without the worry of their food and lifestyle choices.   Backstory   Brighde spent her formative years in the UK and Australia before her desire to travel took over. The next five years were spent leading group tours for an Australian company around Southeast Asia, France, and Morocco. She met fellow tour guide Seb in Marrakech, fell madly in love and a couple of years later they discovered veganism together.  She became passionate about promoting the vegan message as an activist. Widely traveled for both work and fun, one of her most important jobs at World Vegan Travel is ensuring the vegan food on our trips is second to none.  She also makes sure everyone has enough treats throughout the day and organizes the infamous trivia sessions during our final day's parties. She also does all the marketing for the business. Although vegan travelers finding places to lodge and dine were difficult in the past, such is not the case today. Brighde and Seth are committed to raising awareness about the upward trend of more and more travelers who do identify as vegan. Add to this the level at which their clients enjoy travel, and many facilities are more than willing to get very creative in how they accommodate their groups. https://worldvegantravel.com/

British based traveler Anna tells us about the pros and cons of different types of accommodation but of course from a vegan perspective. We discuss Airbnbs, hotels, pet sitting and so much more. One of the most interesting parts of the podcast, in my opinion, was talking about Airbnbs and how problematic it can be in certain cities and what you can do to mitigate the risk. So, have you considered vegan accommodation or non-vegan accommodation? What was your favorite? Let us know in the comments! So, I recorded this episode with Anna several months ago preCOVID where I discussed my excitement about my upcoming trip to Italy to learn Italian. We will get back to sharing more informative content with you from next week! So, let's begin! Many of those listening will know that I (Brighde) until just a few months ago was teaching full time at an international school in Bangkok, a city we had been living in for nearly 7 years! Due to the success of our first few tours, we decided that the time was right for me to finish up teaching and focus on the tours full time. We knew that we were ready to leave South East Asia. We had lived there for the better part of 17 years and we were keen to move to a place that had nature, seasons and ideally mountains. For a couple of years, France was the place we wanted to move to. Both Seb and I are French speakers and we really wanted to move to Europe so after I finished teaching we started researching that at length. As we realized, this was a little bit more of a challenge than we had anticipated. Brexit meant that we didn't know how it would be to move to France (I have British citizenship) and no one seemed to have any idea (not least the British government and Europe) about how freedom of movement would be for the British in Europe moving forward. More and more research didn't seem to give us any clarity at all with this and I was ready to just throw my hands in the air with the whole France plan.In January, we started thinking about where else might be an interesting possibility and moving to Canada started looking more attractive. Seb is Canadian. He was born and raised in Ottawa but most of his family had lived on the west coast for the past 15 years in Vancouver, Squamish and Whistler. It ticked a lot of boxes. Having family nearby, mountains, not too cold during the winter. We started doing research and carefully weighing up all the pros and cons.By mid-February, we felt like Canada did seem like a good idea, but we felt like we needed to go there and check if it really did feel like it could be a home for us. We arrived and spent a few days in Vancouver which we loved but realized that it was probably not quite affordable for us and we thought we would check out Squamish (a town just 45 minutes north that Seb's sister and her family live in and Seb's family had recently moved to.We traveled up there and we realized that Squamish might fit the bill. We told Seb's parents our thoughts and of course, they were very excited at the possibility of moving to be close to them. We started looking for a place and found a perfect place, right in the same building as Seb's parents with views of the mountains and the Mamquam Blind channel (where we have seen seals) as well as The Chief, one of the largest granite monoliths in the world. The town of Squamish, while small and a population of only about 20,000 people, seemed to have everything we would need, supermarkets with lots of fun vegan products, a vegan restaurant as well as some great vegan options and access to so much nature that we had been craving after spending so long in huge cities. As we were deciding, the situation with the Coronavirus was ramping up and it became clear that this situation was going to become a lot worse before it got better and we started to get concerned. Our cats were in Bangkok being cared for by some lovely housesitters in our home and we started to worry that perhaps travel restrictions might prevent us from heading back to Bangkok. We decided that Seb would stay in Canada and start getting our new house organized for a week or two and that I would get head to Bangkok at the first opportunity.2 Days later I arrived in Ban

FULL SHOWNOTES HEREWelcome to the trailer of the World Vegan Travel Podcast and I am Brighde, the host! This little episode is going to tell you about this podcast and what you can expect when you subscribe and listen to this podcast! So, why am I starting a podcast? Well, a few reasons! We want to dispel the myth that traveling as a vegan is impossible. We think by sharing this information you will be inspired to get out into this beautiful world and explore it. That travel can bring us a lot of joy whether you come on one of our trips, or just take a hike somewhere new.We also want to share with you the experiences of people like you, vegans who are traveling the world. It might be people who have not traveled so much and it might even be travel pros, bloggers and the like. People who have valuable information to impart to our listeners. We also want to highlight incredible vegan businesses within the travel industry. It might be walking tours in Paris (check out episode 1) or it might be a vegan hotel in Italy or vegan meditation retreats in Thailand (make sure you check out episode 2 to find out more..Also on top of that, we want to highlight the work being done to protect animals in the world. We know you are vegan because you care about animals and we want to shine a light on these incredible places so you can support them in some way, perhaps in person by volunteering or visiting when you are there or perhaps it will just make you feel good to know that these people are doing such incredible things. See the blog post for all the extras!
