ANNOUNCEMENT: Temporary Pause on Weekly Podcast: Navigating Construction Chaos!

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 4, 2023 4:50

Hello, everyone! This is Brighde, your host from The World Vegan Travel Podcast, and I've got some news to share.Over the last 18 months, I've been bringing you weekly episodes, exploring the world of vegan travel together. In my recent episodes, I shared the amazing experiences from our group tour to Thailand and you will have noticed that they were not interview podcasts. That's because I've encountered a challenge. Upon returning home, I found myself surrounded by the not-so-soothing sounds of construction near my house—a bridge being built, complete with noisy piling work. Unfortunately, this isn't an ideal environment for recording our usual interview-style podcasts.I reached out to the construction company, and they informed me that this symphony of construction sounds will continue until the end of January 24. Despite having several interviews lined up before our Alsace trip in the first week of December, I've had to reschedule them until after the construction concludes. Additionally, Seb and I are gearing up for travel from February to April, heading to Australia to see family and Japan running our trip. Typically, I'd have a bank of podcasts ready for you during my absence, but this time, due to the construction noise as soon as I got back, I have none.Balancing interviews across different time zones is challenging and I usually keep all day Friday open for podcast recording so as to accommodate those different time zones, and I've spent the last two weeks since returning from Thailand trying to figure out a cost-effective solution. I researched a coworking space but I would need my own office which was not cost effective at all and it's hard with equipment lugging that there, booking spots and then having to reschedule or cancel last minute should my guest not be able to attend for some reason. Seb and I brainstormed ideas like creating compilation episodes or rebroadcasting some classics. While these could work for a couple of weeks, these ideas are not sustainable for several months. So, unfortunately, I haven't found a way to continue with weekly podcasts for now.I'm genuinely disappointed because I know consistency is key in podcasting, and I've enjoyed the momentum we've built together. So, what am I going to do?I plan to relaunch the podcast for weekly episodes around April or May 2024, once the construction chaos has settled, and I've accumulated a stash of interviews ready to go. In the meantime, I might drop a few one-off episodes sharing some exciting travel experiences Seb and I have either personal travel, or with our groups or research for our tours—think Prague, Alsace in December, Japan, and Queensland, Australia.Remember to set a reminder to check for new weekly episodes in May, make sure you're notified when a new episode is launched on your podcast catcher and make sure you're on our mailing list for updates on the podcast's return. Your support means the world to me, and I can't wait to be back in your earbuds, sharing more vegan travel goodness sometime in the second quarter of 2024.Until then, safe and happy travels, my wonderful listeners! Thanks for understanding, and I'll catch you on the flip side.Check out our website | Check out all the podcast show notes | Follow us on Instagram

REBROADCAST: Learning Languages for Travel | Wendy Werneth | Ep 121

Click Here For The ShownotesWe are excited to announce that we will be rebroadcasting an episode from our archives featuring Wendy Werneth, an extraordinary polyglot and former vegan travel blogger. During our Italy group tours, we encountered an unexpected shortage of interviews for our podcast while away. However, we found that this particular episode stood out as a good one to rebroadcast.Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to Italy and France, where I was able to put into practice the languages I've been learning. It was a truly enjoyable experience to communicate, even if only to a small extent, in the local languages of these places.Speaking a bit of the local language while traveling adds an extra layer of pleasure to the journey. It enables a deeper connection with the local culture and people, fostering more meaningful interactions. By making an effort to use the language, regardless of its proficiency, you demonstrate respect and appreciation for the local customs and traditions. It opens doors to new encounters, interesting conversations, and a richer understanding of the places you visit. When you can communicate in the local language, it enhances your overall travel experience. You can navigate more easily, seek recommendations from locals, and uncover hidden gems that may be unknown to tourists. It instills a sense of independence and empowerment, knowing that you can handle day-to-day situations and interact with locals without relying solely on English or other languages.Personally, my recent travels have left me highly motivated to improve my French and Italian language skills. Even the ability to communicate at a basic level reminded me of the joy and fulfillment that comes from connecting with others in their native language. This has inspired me to deepen my understanding of these languages so that I can engage more fluently and confidently with people I meet during future travels. I will have the opportunity to visit France in just a couple of months during our French Countryside trip, and I'll be returning to Italy next June.Language learning is an ongoing journey, and my experiences in Italy and France have reignited my passion for achieving proficiency in French and Italian. I aim to expand my ability to express myself, comprehend the nuances of these languages, and immerse myself further in the cultures of these beautiful countries. My motivation to improve stems from a genuine love for languages and a desire to create more meaningful connections with people from diverse backgrounds. While this episode may be a throwback for some, we firmly believe that it offers valuable insights and practical tips that remain relevant today. Whether you are revisiting it or listening for the first time, we are confident that you will find a wealth of inspiration and knowledge. Simply visit our website and enter "Wendy" in the search bar to find the original show notes for this episode, along with all the resources - there are a lot.Join us as we rekindle the magic of this episode and delve into the world of learning languages for travel with Wendy Werneth, the Nomadic Vegan and polyglot. Tammy (alongside her husband Dave) was also a traveler on our inaugural Northern Italy trip in 2022 and she was great fun to travel with through the Italian lakes, dolomites, alps, and the Italian cities of Verona and Venice! Probably the reason she is so much fun to travel with is the fact that Tammy is a former flight attendant, a job which I think you will agree is only suited to some people especially those with a sense of humor and Tammy has that in spades. Today's episode is a little bit different as Tammy will share with us her experience of working for an airline as a flight attendant Consider it more of a storytime episode. In this episode we discuss the following:How Tammy came to work as a flight attendant? What the recruitment process was like? What the schedule was like for Flight attendants?Perks that flight attendants get when travelingThe challenges She'll share some of her flight attendant secrets and hacks.Check out our website | Check out all the podcast show notes | Follow us on Instagram

Click here for the show notes:In today's episode, we'll be talking to Sofie and Tony who founded and run an elephant sanctuary, in fact, the first-ever Elephant Sanctuary in Europe. Seb and I met Tony and Sofie way back in 2018 when we went to visit The Elephant Haven European Elephant Sanctuary in France. We had been in contact with Tony asking if our group might visit the sanctuary for our Dordogne trip in 2020 and if we might visit during a scout. They kindly agreed to show us around one beautiful spring day and what a lovely day it was. Now, I should add, that at this time, there were no elephants at the sanctuary yet. They spent a couple of hours showing us what they had built so far, their story, and their goal to try to be a place where elephants will live the rest of their lives in a much better situation than they were before. As usual, Seb and I were in absolute awe of the work these people are doing. Of course that Dordogne trip in 2020 did not go ahead, but we have actually rebooted that trip and you could be visiting this sanctuary, a sanctuary that is not open to the public on our trip on our A Taste Of The French Countryside: Romantic Villages & Valleys with Colleen Patrick-Goudreau that is happening in September 2023! This trip still has a few spots available and you can join us and visit  The Elephant Haven European Elephant Sanctuary in France and meet Gandhi and Delhi! In this episode, we discussHow Sofie and Tony got involved in animal protectionWhy there is a need for an elephant sanctuary in Europe  Why they decided to create this space for elephantsWhat their long-term goals are for this sanctuary
