Enjoy my conversation with World Vegan Travel all about living compassionately and traveling sustainably. Travel just about seeing new places — it can be a way to show what you care about. On this episode, we talk about sustainable travel and vegan travel, and how making smart choices while on the road can help people, animals, and the planet. She encourages travelers to support responsible tourism, like choosing plant-based meals, avoiding activities that harm animals (like elephant rides), and staying in places that respect local people and nature. ——————

I really wanted to create a little 2022 travel reflections and 2023 travel intentions episode and to release it just before the new year so that hopefully you will be inspired for your travel! I normally record my podcasts in advance especially when traveling, but I wanted to record this close to release because I knew that many of our reflections and favorites would be from my travel right at the end of the year and I wanted to make sure that they would be in the running but the tradeoff is that I cannot edit it as I normally would. At the time of recording this introduction, we have two of our 4 Africa trips. We said goodbye to our Botswana one folks and tomorrow we welcome our Garden Route travelers and after that, we'll have one more Botswana trip before heading home. The travel episode you've all been waiting for! Brighde Reed of World Vegan Travel is here to give us all the tips you'll ever need for fun, delicious vegan travel. Brighde is a passionate vegan and advocate for animals, and in today's episode, she comes with so many tips for vegan travel, resources, websites, apps, translating tips when travelling, and practical tips to help you navigate your adventures as a vegan with confidence. Who better, than the person behind organizing what are, at least to my knowledge, the most high end, spectacularly planned, luxury vegan travel tours and experiences out there, including exploring the beauty of Tuscany, Christmas markets in France, seeing mountain gorillas in Rwanda, going on safari in Botswana and more. She also talks about: Finding vegan friendly hotels, resorts and accommodations. How to talk about your vegan diet when ordering at restaurants and when booking hotels. How to find delicious vegan food while travelling and nearby vegan restaurants. How to use social media to find vegan food near you. Why travel guides aren't always the most up to date with vegan recommendations while travelling, and where to find these. How to get over the fear of advocating for yourself and asking for a vegan dish or vegan substitutions at restaurants and hotels. How you don't have to plan your trips alone and the options available to you so all you have to do is pack your bags. How to find vegan food city tours. Much more. Brighde spent her formative years in the UK and Australia before her desire to travel took over. The next five years were spent leading group tours for an Australian company around Southeast Asia, France and Morocco. She met fellow tour guide Seb in Marrakech, where they fell madly in love, and a couple of years later they discovered veganism together. She became passionate about promoting the vegan message as an activist. Widely travelled for both work and fun, one of her most important jobs at World Vegan Travel is ensuring the vegan food on their trips is second to none. She also makes sure everyone has enough treats throughout the day, and organizes the infamous trivia sessions during their final day's parties. You can connect with Brighde through Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and Youtube (as World Vegan Travel on all platforms) and through her website. Don't forget to check out her wonderful weekly podcast The World Vegan Travel Podcast for even more tips and resources like the ones she gives in this episode, plus guests sharing about their trips around the world, the vegan restaurants they've tried while travelling, and much more. Amanda (who is a vegan) has worked in the travel insurance industry for over a decade and is a marketeer and I am so excited to have her join us on the World Vegan Travel podcast because not only does she know a lot about travel insurance but she has also spent the past 10 years communicating about travel insurance to non-insurance people so you can be sure that you will actually understand what she is talking about.Travel insurance is not a sexy topic, but it is important that you know the basics and I really do feel like this conversation is going to help you know the basics like:1. The different components of travel insurance2 Why is it important3. When is credit card insurance enough and when it isn't4. What about Covid 19 and war?5.  What's the deal with pre-existing conditions?6. Does when I book my travel insurance matter?7. How to assess your level of risk8. How to get travel insuranceI personally think that this is the most important podcast we have ever released. Knowing that you have the right amount of coverage for you and your trip, is the best way to ease the possible worry that if something happens on your trip, you are going to be looked after. Listen to this podcast and listen again. You don't need to become an insurance expert, you just have to understand the basics so you know which questions to ask yourself about what you need and what to look for in a policy. This information is so empowering.

She also has a beautiful blog with tons of wonderfully healthy recipes which makes her the perfect person to talk to on this topic: healthy habits when traveling.I don't know about you, but when I travel, any healthy habits that I have developed while being in a routine seem to go out of the window. At home, I might be eating smoothies for breakfast with berries and kale, and doing some form of intense exercise each day and as soon as I start to travel I will be eating french fries and barely getting any steps in each day even if there are better choices at my fingertips.  In this episode, Tess shares 5 tips for making healthy choices when traveling. If you are someone who travels full-time or perhaps travels a lot for work, or someone who just wants to stay on track when you go away for the weekend, you won't want to miss this episode.Just a little bit of housekeeping. As I mentioned in the last episode with Wendy about languages for travel, this episode was recorded as part of a vegan travel summit I planned on doing last year. I have since decided to put the summit on indefinite hold but in the interest of getting some of the content into the world, I decided to release some of the recordings as podcast episodes. A big thank you to Tess and the other speakers for allowing me to do that. You'll hear us refer to the travel summit a couple of times. SponsorBut first, this podcast is sponsored by World Vegan Travel! We have an incredible trip planned to South Africa along the Garden Route, which is basically a beautifully scenic route east of Cape Town. You probably all know that South Africa is famous for all of the safari animals, but in case that was not enough, we will be seeing some other types of animals both in the wild and in sanctuaries. While we don't know the exact order of events, we do know that we plan to visit a penguin colony close to Cape Town. They heading east we will visit the coastal town of Hermanus where we will enjoy a talk from some marine biologists before heading out to see whales in the ocean. After that, we will head to the cute town of Greyton which has amongst other things, a beautiful farmed animal sanctuary. We do actually have some other surprises in-store, but you will have to come and join us to find out what they are! If you are interested in finding out more about this trip, you can always look at the link in the show notes. FULL SHOWNOTES HEREWelcome to the trailer of the World Vegan Travel Podcast and I am Brighde, the host! This little episode is going to tell you about this podcast and what you can expect when you subscribe and listen to this podcast! So, why am I starting a podcast? Well, a few reasons! We want to dispel the myth that traveling as a vegan is impossible. We think by sharing this information you will be inspired to get out into this beautiful world and explore it. That travel can bring us a lot of joy whether you come on one of our trips, or just take a hike somewhere new.We also want to share with you the experiences of people like you, vegans who are traveling the world. It might be people who have not traveled so much and it might even be travel pros, bloggers and the like. People who have valuable information to impart to our listeners. We also want to highlight incredible vegan businesses within the travel industry. It might be walking tours in Paris (check out episode 1) or it might be a vegan hotel in Italy or vegan meditation retreats in Thailand (make sure you check out episode 2 to find out more..Also on top of that, we want to highlight the work being done to protect animals in the world. We know you are vegan because you care about animals and we want to shine a light on these incredible places so you can support them in some way, perhaps in person by volunteering or visiting when you are there or perhaps it will just make you feel good to know that these people are doing such incredible things. See the blog post for all the extras!
