It's time for The Truth!Today, Sam and Dougie are looking at Brighton & Hove Albion, who are having an impressive season - but also one that's been permeated with strange results and odd streaks of form that have been up and down. On the verge of the Champions League places, things look pretty good under Fabian Hurzeler, who was brought in from St Pauli at the start of the season, who guided them to their best ever start, before going on an 8-game unbeaten run, then losing 7-0 to Nottingham Forest, and bouncing back with a four game win streak that has them looking well-placed for a return to European football. We look at a big summer spending spree, the new additions and how they've fitted in, tactical changes throughout the course of the campaign and where the future lies for a club who have made a habit of hitting the nail on the head with almost everything they've done in recent years. Is their Champions League chase an outlier in what has been a weird Premier League season, or should we be expecting the Seagulls' trajectory to keep going firmly in an upward direction? Well, The Truth is somewhere in the middle... And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?

Arsenal left Amex Stadium with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Brighton. A match that was more back-and-forth in favor of the hosts. The atmosphere was tense, Arsenal fans came to this ground with a lot of bravery; at some moment felt like they took over the tone of the crowd. The first half was a tough battle. Arsenal showed a different style going direct in the face of relentless pressure. Our half-chances were not as fast enough to give us an better overall outlook in terms of "xG,". Brighton's defense was tighter very aggressive.Brighton had a few moments where they threatened to make it interesting, and boy, did they ever. Arsenal's lead, courtesy of a Nwaneri wondergoal, evaporated faster than we could secure another chance when Brighton equalized from the spot. The positives among them, were from Rice and Merino. But not enough as a collective. Thankfully, we did enough to avoid defeat. The players like us come away with mixed feelings, enduring composure from one end and looking somewhat toothless in attack. Trossard had a day to forget, disappearing more often than a magician's assistant.Take a listen for more about this match. The challenges grow as we march on. We regroup, we learn, and we come back stronger. On to the next one. Come on you Gunners!

It's time for The Truth!Sam Tighe and Dougie Critchley take a deep dive on a transfer that stunned many observers last summer, when Chelsea spent £115, a British record fee, to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion. Caicedo had been one of the Premier League's revelations the season before, but it took a while for him to get his feet under the table at Stamford Bridge. Many were quick to write the transfer off as another piece of business where Todd Boehly had spent way too much money on a player who was performing well at the time, but since 2024 began, Caicedo has begun to show exactly why Chelsea were desperate to gazump Liverpool for the Ecuadorian's signature. We discuss his impact on Enzo Maresca's resurgent Chelsea side, and what has changed for the Blues to get the best out of Caicedo since the turn of the year, as well as examining his sometime midfield partner Enzo Fernandez, and wondering if that partnership might be one that ends sooner rather than later with Romeo Lavia now staking his claim for a starting spot alongside Caicedo. Is Moises Caicedo on a trajectory to be one of the best midfielders on the planet, or is the fee still too high for a player who doesn't seem to have all that many goals in his locker, even if he's brilliant at everything else? The Truth is somewhere in the middle... Brighton is now an established Premier League club and even experienced European football for the first time in 2023/24.
Mubarak is joined by Basel as they discuss Arne Slot's perfect start to his Liverpool career, focusing on the defeat of arch rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford, thanks to the incredibly talented Ryan Gravenberch and of course the usual suspects Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. They then head to London. First at The Emirates, where Declan Rice was sent off as Arsenal were forced to a draw by Brighton & Hove Albion, then to The London Olympic Stadium, as Erling Haaland bagged yet another hatty to send City top of the table heading into this season's first international break.Lastly, they gave their two cents on Saud Abdulhamid, who became the first Saudi Arabian to sign for a Serie A club after moving to Roma, before finishing it off with a break down of the new UEFA Champions League format.#PremierLeague Liverpool #ManchesterUnited #Arsenal #Brighton #ManchesterCity #ASRoma #SaudAbdulhamid #UEFAChampionsLeague --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ballgametimes/support
Toffees worldwide were hoping to see the beginning of Goodison's final season begin on a bright note. Instead, we were treated to all-too familiar reminders of Everton's shortcomings and bad fortunes of late, as EFC fell 3-0 to the visiting Brighton & Hove Albion. James and Ryan break down the season opener: from lineup selections, to the questionably overturned VAR decision, to the Ashley Young straight red, and more. They also lament the over-the-top reactions from some of the fanbase who seem to be in rare form for the opening weekend. It also would not be a true ATP episode if the DESPERATE NEED OF A RIGHT BACK was not discussed at length. The show wraps with the guys trying to guess when Sean Dyche might start to incorporate the new signings into the team. We appreciate all our listeners and contributors as we head into our 6th season covering the Toffees, and we hope you enjoy the episode! Hello Rank Squad! Pre-season is firmly underway and we've seen a mixed bag from some of the clubs on everybody's lips right now. We've taken five Premier League teams and ranked them on how we think they're getting on - stacking up their expectations ahead of the season against the performances that we've seen so far. We share our thoughts on Enzo Maresca's Chelsea, Fabian Hurzeler's Brighton & Hove Albion, Erik ten Hag's Manchester United, Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham Hotspur and Mikel Arteta's Arsenal - examining the squads, the games, and what we can ascertain from their on-pitch product in the warm-up act for the new season. Before that, there's Things We Love, where Dean discusses the strange nature of West Ham United's transfer approach this summer, and Jack waxes lyrical about the brilliance of Emma Hayes' USWNT at the Olympics so far. And of course, the latest update of Dean's American Life finishes things off, where we learn about the 'incredible' season ticket he has purchased for...a car wash. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
